They maintain a relaxed / casual pace overall and offer an emotional experience that fits perfectly with a rainy Saturday mood. This one in particular is infused with a sad narration, maybe even more so because it has deep roots into an unforgiving reality. The story of The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna is told from an observer’s point of view and follows a regular guy who returns to his natal…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This ranks among the worst games I have ever played. I am stupefied by the positive reviews here. I love Myst-type games and enjoy a good walking simulator such as What Remains of Edith Finch. But this "game" is 99% walking around. Literally. You just follow a path for several hours. You walk by houses, lookout towers, and other structures, but you can't go in them. There is literally NOTHING to interact with. There are a few "puzzles" where you have to flip a switch to open a door. That's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The last walking sim released before the pandemic? Just realised that this I'd skipped while I'd played 7 walking sims by Mr. Bodur, all released after Drizzlepath: Deja Vu. The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna is on par with the rest: beautifully done sim with long walks and great accompanying music. To tell you the truth while I liked the usual narration (with the exception of the toilet used as a metaphor for life) throughout gameplay, I didn't really like the 3 ghosts appearing from time-to-time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tonguç has once again shown that he is the master of the walking sim/exploration genre. The scenery is beautiful, as well as the story telling. The timing of the dialog is spot on and the voice actors that are used fit the storyline almost perfectly. I would definitely recommend getting this if you're a fan of the genre!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright. The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna is done and dusted. I actually thought I'd played this before, but turns out I hadn't, so no better time than now to remedy that. And it was another stellar walking simulator by Tonguç Bodur, who has more or less mastered the genre. This is, as is the case with his other games, very story-centric, set alongside the backdrop of a lush outdoors and mountain setting. This is also one of his lengthier walking sims, weighing in at about two hours plus another half…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another asset flip from Tonguç Bodur. As his other games, it's not worth anyone's time, it's an insult to game design everywhere, and might actually reduce the player's brain cell count.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically, long and boring. The protagonist goes for a 20 mile stroll, the pathway affording many beautiful vistas, lakes, streams, waterfalls, meadows. The narrator is supposed to be a young college graduate but the voice is a gravelly middle age male. We are captive to monotonous philosophical monologue which is presented as 'wisdom' but is objectively disconnected, doubtful, and often absurd. At times the music is very beautiful - gorgeous cello melodies with astutely crafted orchestration -…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I strongly believe that this is one of the weakest games Tonguc has ever made. The voice acting is some of the worst I've heard, the world is unbelievably linear this time instead of open, and the story (in my opinion) doesn't really make sense. The characters actions and motivations in this game are far removed from what most humans actions and motivations would be in real life and that really took me out of the game. Now, DESPITE all this, the game isn't terrible. You may be wondering how I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Dead Tree Of Ranchiuna, another game from developer Tonguç Bodur. The guy who creates games like they are cupcakes and probably holds the world record of creating most games single handedly..... well if you forget about the bought assets, hired voice actors and paid music ofcourse. Like most games from this developer, TDTOR is a walking simulator with some narration. To cut a long story short, I did not like the game. The story wasn't very interesting + the main voice actor bore the hell…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoy walking-simulators if they have a good story. This game is just boring and the story is dubious. I don't get all the good reviews. The ending is hilariously bad. They hang him because of a toy that he stole as a child? Come on man, this is just stupid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall: 8/10 (With caveats) This is a visually fantastic game, packaged with an excellent, atmospheric soundtrack. But, let down by very mediocre game-play, puzzles and poor voice acting and script writing. It attempts to explore the topics of guilt, revenge, jealousy and greed but approaches them with the subtlety of a 12 year old. The first hour or so was a really great experience, very calming and simple. But, when the game started to introduce a plot and very, very limited 'puzzle' use,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game when it was published, played for an hour, and then forgot it for a year. I guess that says a lot, but not all. So, I saw this as I was browsing my library and decided to continue where I left. Usually I like this kind of games, but I started to get bored the further I got in this. The bits of story about the past are interesting, but I really didn't like that you're reduced to walking speed and everything gets blurry when these parts occur. It would have been nice to look…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, but discovered it lead absolutely nowhere
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While parts of the scenery are very pretty and that is probably the main part of this game, there is too much breaking away from the positive aspects of the game for me to recommend it. - As already mentioned some parts of the map are quite pretty but most of it is a very bland and boring canion/ mountain area with little to see. - The music is nice when there is any, most of the game is very quiet - The story is told though some kind of memories where people are represented by clouds, which is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna is a walking simulator, which tells a story. The focus is on the atmosphere and the story. You won't get a lot of actual "gameplay", but rather you'll see yourself walking in nice landscape while a story is being told. If you're into this, the game is very much recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →finished this in 4.5 hours. i really didn't like it, and here is why: 1. the save system forced me to repeat the same parts of the game over and over, unless i quit playing at a designated save point. 2. you have to be very close to an object you find in order for it to highlight and let you know to click on it. that meant a lot of mousing from side to side while walking, and a lot of nausea as a result. 3. walking speed permits either super slow to medium speed. way too slow and annoying.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I own all of Tonguç Bodur's games but there are a handful I'm just now getting to. Like many of his titles, this one is a walking simulator that tells a story. This is probably my favorite title of his so far. The graphics are excellent (Unreal Engine). I have a fairly solid gaming PC but with the settings cranked to ultra I could tell I was stressing my rig a bit. This isn't a criticism--the graphics & assets are very nice--almost photo-realistic in places. It took me a bit over 2 hours…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like others have said this is the weakest of Tonguc's recent games. The voice acting and character dialogue is pretty weak, and the long walk is a bit dull and tedious. Most areas tend to look the same after about 10 minutes. I(t could do with more music and/or more ambient sound, like a breeze, or wind in the tree's as it is, a lot of it is really too silent. On a few positive notes, what music there is is really good, and the narrative theme is thought provoking. it did run well on my old…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't say whether I would actually recommend this or not. I enjoyed the game, yet also didn't. The beginning was rough. A muddled exposition. Okay narration with some music chucked in there in a way that felt obligatory. Then these flashbacks with godawful voice acting started popping up. It's not uncommon to hear bad voice acting in small-budget games, but it didn't match the tone of the game at ALL. Really just ruined the atmosphere for me. After maybe 10 minutes, the game opened up a bit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a VERY representative specimen of a "walking simulator". It had some good music and the game world was beautifully rendered--I really liked the water effects. But for only being 2 hours long, it sure felt long. The story was a typical post-modern, non-linear narrative which I only partially understood and was mostly told via flashbacks and/or talking "ghosts" enacting out scenes from the past. The narrator/protagonist is bonkers and so trippy stuff is seen along the way. BTW, I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've always been a fan of tonguç bodur work. I did enjoy this game for the most part, however I experienced a couple glitches where I got stuck on objects such as rocks and trees and would have to exit to the main menu and restart at the last checkpoint, on one of the occasions I found out I was a few steps away from the next checkpoint but had to start from the beginning of that level. Which was a bit frustrating. But I find it relaxing walking through the world tonguç bodur creates, so It was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →These games aren't for everyone, but I definitely enjoy every few months getting to sit down for a few hours and see how Tonguç has improved and built on his previous games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna A nice walking simulator, for those who just like a quiet, relaxing game to enjoy it's surroundings. It isn't all nice and colorful like most, this one got a bit of a dark turn in gameplay. Here and there some dialogue, alone with your thoughts, though some might be to real or even relatable at times. Graphics are a bit different like the others i've played, yet still great to just admire the scenery. Story is somewhat interesting, though it's very soon noticable…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game with great music
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Walking simulator. A bit too slow paced, for my taste. Nice graphic, nice sounds and atmosphere. Easy Achievements, 100% / 2,5h.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I consider "The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna" to be a really decent game for my taste, which is to say, I am a fan of story-driven slow moving games of poetry and mystery. Imagery, sound and music are fine. Voiceovers are good in general, though the narrator's performance lacks a bit in nuance - but this might be due to the script, that suffers from the same problem. The scenery is beautiful and rich in detail, a variety of animals announce their presence, water gurgles, wind rushes, rocks fall. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice and atmoshperic game. beautiful soundtrack. Though not for everybody. Walking simulator and story-telling game without any action. Pros: beautiful music and scenery Cons: very few savepoint.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rarely write the - so called - reviews on Steam, but this little game left me quite puzzled so I simply had to drop a couple of words as I think that it, honestly not being flawless, deserves it. Without further ado, let's cut the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and get to the point. Pros: + Compelling storyline. It means something. + Atmospheric landscapes (nature/ruins) and soundtrack. + A really abmitious project - especially knowing there was practically just one person behind it. + It is an interesting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An enjoyable but very sad story, I couldn't help but reflect on my own life while listening to the narrator. The beautiful set pieces and music immerse you in the story. It's a short game but definitely worth your consideration.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna is a narrative-focused exploration game developed and published by Tonguç Bodur. It is designed less around conventional action and more around atmosphere, discovery, and the gradual reconstruction of a mysterious past. The story follows a university graduate who returns to the village where he spent his childhood, expecting a familiar homecoming but instead finding an unsettlingly deserted place. As he travels through Ranchiuna and the surrounding countryside,…

unlabelledView post →Some parts of the environment are pretty, but aside from that I can't say much. The few-and-far-between spoken segments mostly seemed like semi-incoherent rambling. The voice acting sounded like it was being read; the tone almost never fit what was being said.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know it's been awhile since I've played other games in the series, most of which I've given glowing reviews, but this one just did not do it for me. The music and visuals were great as always. I sort of understand the story, but I just don't feel like the motives for the characters add up; I just don't buy it. Maybe the story is completely fair and the voice acting just didn't sell it for me, I'm not sure. Don't even get me started on the lock picking mechanic at the very end. It looks a lot…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna Positives: + Beautiful nature and landscapes + Nice graphics + Nice sounds and music + Some parts of the story is ok + Parts of the voiceacting was ok + Longer than other titles from TB + The wildlife + Ok sized map to explore Negatives: - Low FOV - Framerate issues - Some of the voiceacting are not exactly great - You can get stuck here and there - No reset option - No jump function - Footstep sounds - Very slow walking speed Total Score: 7.5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad. Not too long. Good scenery and some small minor interactions. Nice music. Simply walking.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Life is a leaking water tank. Yep, and the narration is the philosopher Confucious himself, but the deadpan version. Sometimes hem makes sense, but sometimes he just says nothing at all. Such a waste of great scenery and artwork. If they replaced the dialog with subtitles, this game would be beautiful. Not sure why I paid for this title. - Drizzlepath, but cheezy taken to higher heights.

unlabelledView post →I get the point of all the dialogue and the morals that were trying to be portrayed, but I really hated this game. It made me so mad. I shouldn't grow pressingly more mad as I play a game. I'm supposed to be entertained or enlightened or at the very least intrigued by everything. I also got stuck between two rocks at one point and had to start from the last save point which really annoyed me. Every scene felt detached and every character ended up being a piece of ♥♥♥♥ except the main…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[EDITED REVIEW - changed to recommended] First time I played it, something went wrong and when I got to the "bridge crank", I was not able to pick it up, and when I quit the game, I lost all my progress. I incorrectly assumed that the lack of saving of my game was by design. After the developer clarified the game should indeed save, I gave it another try, and all went well the second time around, progress saving and all. So, being able to play it all the way through, here is a proper review:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my review of The Dead Tree of Ranchtuna. I was pretty on board with this game until I saw the flowers. You have, strewn at random upon an otherwise-barren steppe, domestic tulips, coneflowers, hibiscus, and phlox, all blooming at the same time. These do not all bloom in the same season, or even thrive in the same climates. Then later, there are vining geraniums attached to a building, surrounded by ivy. On what planet does that make sense? The graphics in Ranchtuna are generally better…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My mind always filled the emptiness of this game with it's own thoughts. It's so boring that I nearly fell asleep. It shall make you question the injustice in society? LOL If you have problems getting enough sleep, this is your game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's ok. Graphics, music and atmosphere are good, but the story and dialogs are bad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SLOW, A LOT TO TAKE IN.. HOWEVER I DO WISH IT HAD A VISIBLE SAVE OPTION...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best part of this game is when you finish there is a secret way to replay without the crummy story. The visual style is very nice. All the games by this dev are like that in that they have these beautiful environments with stories that are usually depressing, incomprehensible, or just poorly written. Buy if the price is right.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to say that this is the by far the best Tonguç Bodur game so far. This game is still far from perfect, but I'd recommend this over any of his other games before this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice walkingsimulator, with a philisophical narrativ. The Graphic is good, and the music is good. And for once, the music can be bought as Dlc. That i like. As a walkingsimulation it is slow paced, that is not negativ for me.
