60 of 88 · most liked first„The Hunting God“ is a first person, short, approximately 1,5 hours, obscure, well done “walking simulator”; achieved with Unreal Engine 4, told in 4 chapters, accompanied by 6 easy to obtain achievements. Your progress is saved during the end of each chapter. What you get: Decent graphics (many settings to adjust), calm, relaxing, peaceful atmosphere/ambiance and music. Appropriate walking speed (both axis are invertible), slow paced, but not sluggish. You can’t run, but you can jump, at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease for ever to be able to do it." - J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan The Hunting God is another beauty from the collection of Tonguç Bodur, yet this one is a bit different... it is a tale of ancient gods, battles of will, old magic and sacrifice. I have played his Bottle series before, and The Hunting God is quite different both in narrative, and as an experience, compared to them; yet it does deliver in both of these categories. Here, we step into…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I must admit that my initial thought when I first saw the title of the game was something in the lines of: "OMG this is going to be bloody and full of dead animals". I immediately corrected myself because I realized that Tonguç Bodur wouldn't create gore-y games (or will he ever?). I was right, The Hunting God is, as all the other games developed by him, a peaceful (and harmless), relaxing and beautiful walking simulator. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1102775904 If you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction Another fine 3D walking simulator as abstract and short as I like them. Can’t really consider these as straight to the point, but they still prove to be the remedy to my lack of motivation in regards to writing or even playing at times. Video games, at least the vast majority of them on Steam, seem geared towards one simplistic goal or another. Kill this, gather that resource, reach a new high score. Why can’t there be more titles which just focus on peaceful exploration and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is the seventh game from Tonguc Bodur, a man seemingly dedicated to the art of making "walking simulators". For those familiar with his output, this can perhaps be seen as something of a consolidation of his prior work: it has the voice-over narration of most of his games, the fantastic setting and mythological resonance of Drizzlepath: Genie, and the infrequent and none-too-taxing "puzzles" of the Nephise games. Which isn't to say that I consider this his most successful…

Beneath the vaults of shadow-haunted tombs, I see the fire that burns like the black heart of night. In brooding and sombre visions I hear cries, Enthralling cries 'neath the frost moon rising I hear the slithering of forces that seethe serpentine in black guffs, In the dark and silent…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is a short walking simulator with the expected beautiful environment by Tonguc Bodur. You take on the character of Nodens, the hunting God. Nodens is a deity associated with healing, the sea, hunting and dogs and was worshipped in Ancient Britain. He was known as Nuada in Ireland and Nudd in Wales. This game takes on the persona of the Irish version as the narrator has a lilting Irish accent and many of the mentioned characters are heroes of Irish Mythology, especially the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the 7th walking sim released by Tonguc Bodur. If you are not familiar with the genre here's a short description: walking simulators (or FPE, first person exploration games) put a lot of emphasis on walking instead of shooting (hence the missing word "shooter" from the name of the genre). The emphasis is on immersion and these games often showcase the capabilities of a particular engine and are relatively short (which explains why the price is significantly lower than that of an AAA…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is a peaceful, calm game with a few simple puzzles to solve. This game is basically meant for enjoying the sceneries and for listening to the story. The game is divided into three main chapters: “Earth”, “Moon” and “Sun”, each of which has a unique beautiful atmosphere and lovely soundtrack. In the chapter “Earth” I strolled through the woods admiring sparkling flowers, sun rays playing in the tree tops and cute animals. A nice touch there was funny messages well-hidden on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is the seventh and most recent walking simulator crafted by Tonguç Bodur, who has shown an ability to craft wonderful and brief experiences that allow you to wander through interesting stories without the need to commit to a several days long stay. As with Tonguç’s past games, The Hunting God is meant to be enjoyed in a single sitting. What I found while playing this game was a beautiful experience with an interesting story and stellar design. So, what about specifics? Well,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am glad this is done. It was the most challenging translation job for me, so far (English - German). And it was worth it. I learned a lot about ancient myths of Ireland and the Celts while researching the background of the narration and the poems. So, what can you expect? Well, as usual from a game by Tonguç Bodur, it is at least a "Walking Simulator", so you will travel for quite a while, admiring pretty landscapes. True – they may look a little surreal, partially. But they are mere…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is a 1 hour exploration adventure that consists of walking through a beautiful landscape of cliffs, mountains plains and forests. The game itself isn't very interactive, it is what people refer to as a "walking simulator" in the good sense of experiencing the atmosphere and not so much "playing"a game. The exploration is accompanied by a story told by a narrator of what appears to be viking origins, though I might be mistaken. I do not know much about the vikings or their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is a lovely and charming game, who says it's just a walking simulator definitely didn't understand it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although I have enjoyed some walking simulators (and even others by the same developer, notably Nephise Begins..) I have not enjoyed my brief time spent with The Hunting God. A lot of my gripes with the game are personal preference (most notably in how the narrative is delivered..) however its lack of a traditional save function and its artificial feeling world are primarily what have put me off of bothering to experience more of the game. The Hunting God is a relaxing, average Walking…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a veritable connoisseur of Tonguc Bodur games, I must say that The Hunting God is among his best works. That is not to say that I would recommend it to anyone, but it is a noticeable improvement upon his previous titles. In The Hunting God, you play as some Irish deity who walks around pretty landscapes talking to himself occasionally in nonsensical voiceovers and very occasionally clicking on a couple of stock assets to proceed. The story is basically about a god whose realm gets besieged…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are asking "where is the sprint key?" then you are in the wrong game. This is a beautiful, slow placed walking sim that slowly unfolds itself and its intriguing story. Take your pace and enjoy the relaxing mood and scenery along with the soothing music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since I have played most of Tonguc Bodur's newer games, I decided to circle back and pick up some of his older titles. The Hunting God is another beautiful and relaxing walking simulator. You play from the first person perspective of Nodens (a god from Celtic mythology). He narrates a bit of his history and adventures (in an accent that sounded Scottish to me) as you travel. There are also statues along the way that trigger poetry about other Celtic characters. I turned the subtitles on, as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You walk around while being told the story broken down into chapters. The graphics are acceptable, could be better. The music is nice but not top notch. All in all for me it's 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not get on with this game. I often find "Walking Simulator" to be a rather reductive way to describe games like this (Firewatch, Gone Home et cetera). The walking is a means for telling a story, on which this sort of game lives and dies on. And I don't care for this story. A celtic god plodding through the landscape, narrating the events of his life and his wolf companion. These sound mildly interesting, but get lost in flowery prose, over-reliance on celtic folklore and interminable…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good game for when you want something relaxing that doesn't require too much thinking. It's just walking and listening to a story that is interesting enough. Also easy 100% achievements. Edit: I played earlier games from the same developer and this one is definitely an improvement compared to those. This is longer, has a proper story, the voiceover is done by a native speaker, and there are subtitles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another great little story, beautiful visuals, relaxing and a real joy to play through.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is a short and sweet walking simulator, about 1.5 hours total, split into 4 chapters. You'll stop walking occasionally to do some lite casual puzzle solving. The story is told to you via narrator, and my only complaint is that it can be difficult to understand because the dialogue uses specific jargon for characters, gods, rituals, and locations for which very little context is given. You may have instances where he says weird words at you and you'll have to just roll with it.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even with a 50% off code that I got from crafting badges, this game will never make up for the hour I spent on it and the small amount of space lost on my hard drive even after deleting it. I would not recommend buying this game unless you want another fully completed game for your Steam profile.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tight Myth Filled with Irish myth and well paced, The Hunting God is the tightest story we've walked through with Tonguç Bodur. That is to say, the music, the Unreal assets, the story, the climax and ending--all fit snugly together, immersing the player far more effectively than previous works. You are, presumably, Cernunnos, the God of the Hunt from the pre-Christian pantheon of the Emerald Isles. Your journey is retracing familiar paths of your domain, reminiscing about friends, victories,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was very dissapointed in this Tonguc Bodur game. I am a fan of many of their games, but this one is just.... dull. First of all, exploration is very limited. When you emerge from the starting location, you see the mountains and lake reaching out in front of you and you want to go there and explore it, but the "path through" funnels you throught steep cliffs and ravines, and quickly turns you into the direction it wants you to go. Other than the mountains rising up on either side of you so…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lovely game. The story is short, but holds a lot of lore. The gameplay consists of mostly walking, but there are a few "collect items" to progress and a few interactions here and there to keep you involved. Additionally, there are statues that contain optional lore to the intriguing story. The level design is nice. It starts off rather plain, but as you venture forth, it evolves into an awesome landscape that conveys the story's direction perfectly. Reccommended if you want a short…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really good relaxing game. Highly suggest people who like these types of games to try this out. The graphics are actually really nice too for a game under $5. 8/10 easily. Video on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akm9UADVlsU
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I enjoy an eye-catching walking simulator, and The Hunting God is indeed beautiful, this feels like an early draft. Sporadic narration accompanies you for the linear stroll(randomly altering to a sprint at unexplained times) through a narrow valley in day and night, culminating on an equally narrow peak. Sadly, the sights barely echo the story being told and the dramatic reading of the text lacks the emphasis of one that recalls the tale they're reciting. So I'm left asking, why is…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe Bodur's games just aren't for me. While I like walking simulators and more "idle" games, I have problems with his style. The only game I enjoyed so far was "education", sadly "The Hunting God" was more like his other creations. While the world in the first part of the story looks quite pretty and alive, the other 2 chapters look very boring and bland. The forrest singing with life is swapped with a more rocky landscape in chapter 2 and a very dry looking one in chapter 3. Everything…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've quite enjoyed both of the Bottle games by Bodur, which really engaged enough to warrant justifying the price and were not half bad for a one man show. Then I moved onto this. Oh my, this one is bad. Bodur is clearly trying too hard here, and what we've ended up with is an unbelievably boring looking, incoherent 'story' which simply does not make any sense or grip. After yawning for 20 minutes of a dreary stroll with accompanying dialogue (none of which was coherent) I got to the sleeping…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short casual walking simulator, consisting of three stages and an intermezzo, and exactly one decision tree (literally) towards the end. The story is equally short, inspired by Celtic mythology and narrated in monologue. On the technical side, the game looks very good – environments are somewhat sparse in objects but still lovely, and music sounds quite beautiful. The same couldn’t be said about voice acting unfortunately, main protagonist sounds like an old man reading text from paper, rather…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend if you're into Celtic mythology/Christian folklore or want to be - lots of names and words that are seemingly gibberish to most people (including me) but it's a good opportunity to use a search engine to research the names/words, for example, Crom Cruach or Tír na nÓg and then in some ways turn this 1-hr experience into a 6+ hour lesson in possibly history but more likely Celtic mythology/Christian folklore as mentioned before. Also recommended if you've played Tonguç Bodur…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fine walking simulator with beautiful landscapes, though a bit short, game takes 1-1.5h and it's very easy to get the achievements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I expected a different game. The game is beautiful as is the narrative. This game is great if you're looking for long drawn out storytelling. Could be more straight to the point, and even for a walking sim could help if they had areas of sprinting to speed up the process of the story. There's not a whole lot to look at which makes it disappointing, but otherwise a decent sim. I wish i could say more, but it's not much. Maybe someone else out there would enjoy this game more than I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God, developed and published by Tonguç Bodur, offers players a unique, introspective experience that blends mythology, storytelling, and serene exploration. Unlike conventional games packed with action or complex mechanics, this title is more of a meditative journey set within beautifully crafted natural landscapes. Players step into the role of Nodens, the ancient hunting god, accompanied by a mystical white wolf named Draiochta, as they traverse two key locations: the Forest of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short and atmospheric walking simulator. Story is bizarre as usual reminiscent of old Celtic legends. Better than most from this author.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is a walking simulator game that is extremely short. I finished the game in 40 minutes and I got lost twice. I even spent some additional time to take screenshots of the landscape that is alright honestly, but not exceptional. The game has virtually no cinematics and takes around 30 minutes to complete, but the download is somehow 7 GB, yikes. That and the optimisation on CPU/GPU load is laughable. That aside, the music is mostly ambience and it's not too bad. The graphics are…

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a beautiful walking simulator with a story told in 4 different chapters. In these chapters you need to interact with 6 different statues to unlock the 6 achievements. Visually the game is extremely beautiful and you get different areas to explore. The music and sounds are relaxing and peaceful, where you can hear all the different animals as well as the different elements. This game does not have any puzzles, but it has tasks where you need to collect stuff or open an area.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/9686972/]Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this! Like all of Tonguc's previous games, this is a walking simulator where you walk around a beautiful (and probably partly automatically generated) environment while a narrator tells a story that's mostly unrelated to what you're seeing. I was hoping maybe he'd decided to innovate for this one, but unfortunately this appears to be more of the same, but even worse. In…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One hour game experience, where every minute feels like an hour. I wouldn't call it a "walking simulator". It's more like a "fall asleep simulator" already. It's one of the games that you want to shut down within the first 5 minutes, because it is just boring. If you don't find the story interesting (like me), than you're in deep ♥♥♥♥, because that's the only thing that makes it worth playing. Puzzles are no puzzles, so don't expect a mind challenge. Graphics and level design are bad. Wide…

Thank you that there are no blacks and LGBT people in the game. You have created a masterpiece and now all you have to do is continue to edit the technical component. Thank you, take care of yourself and keep giving us new games!

Soon I discover my mind slowing, my sight becomes blurred, and hearing seems to fade away. Followed by a slow fade to black. As I fall to the ground I realized my thoughts of starving were in vane. I hit the ground and my last thought was "damn it I was bored to death."
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game where you do almost nothing but walking around uselessly huge map with almost nothing to interact with while listening to cringey narrations. recommended for those with insomniac problem, definitely work, I felt asleep while playing too
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A particular boring walking simulator. Listen to an Irish dude blabber in your ear about Irish mythology as you walk through some generic forest, wasteland and mountainous environments essentially to reach a statue that shows you a poem. Meh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nonsense story with scottish accent!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would say this is about average length for a Tonguc game (about an hour), with content that is well worth the price. Rich and unique environments, as well as a compelling story with superb voice acting. Definitely worth a play at full price, thought I used a coupon. Excellent game, would recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly for something that relies solely on good graphics and a good story, I found both to be lacking.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game definitely deserves a recommendation and it is worth playing, Also the area is pretty good and vast. Pros 1. Relaxing Music 2. Great story telling 3. Fun and calm game play 4. Great Graphics 5. Good Game to Play Cons 1. Very Short Game you can complete in 60+ mins 2. Not much of a re-playable 3. Very Long and boring walk in the Earth Area.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hunting God is a walking game, an experience of an Irish / Welsh myth. You walk, and, as you walk, a narrator with a soft Irish accent relays an old God’s tale. The experience is far better than my description makes it seem. I don’t know my Irish (or Welsh) myth, so I cannot comment on whether this story of the minor God Nodens has any basis in the existing extant. (According to wikipedia, He’s an old English God, still alive under another name in Irish myth, but whether the myth includes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A somewhat pleasant but boring and nonsensical "walking simulator". The writing is an awful stream of consciousness with wrong English, but the voice actor does a heroic job at giving it some life. It's not quite as bad as in Tonguç Bodur's other games, but that's possibly because there's not too much text... The vistas are interesting in and of themselves, but they are repetitive and boring. If you've seen the first two minutes of them there's nothing new to discover. I appreciated some…
