The Big Secret of a Small Town
Developer Flenx
The small town is a very important town indeed. Here, a unique industrial complex is located. Rumor has it that it does not require energy for production, because that is exactly what it produces! How is this possible? From the Steam store page

60 of 67 · most liked firstThe Big Secret of a Small Town is a pleasant adventure-lite title that appeals to both adventure gamers and hidden object fans alike. With beautifully hand-painted artwork, imaginative setting and puzzles that will have your mind in knots, there is plenty to appreciate in this gem. The mayor of a technologically advanced steam punk town has been kidnapped, and it’s up to the player to figure out who is behind the plot and rescue the beleaguered leader. There’s a bit more to the story with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A noble man compares and estimates himself by an idea which is higher than himself; and a mean man, by one lower than himself. The one produces aspiration; the other ambition, which is the way in which a vulgar man aspires. - Marcus Aurelius When I decided to pop up a random hidden object game for a lazy afternoon, and unknowingly chose to go with The Big Secret of a Small Town, I ended up discovering a tiny masterpiece of a puzzle game accidentally. As the only game of the small Russian…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Big Secret of a Small Town is a cute little puzzle game that has great potential, but fails at some of the most important aspects of the gameplay. If this review is too long for you, I suggest you to only read the first paragraph about the game's content and the final verdict at the end. What is happening in the game: There is a small town, where the mayor suddenly disappears. You also have to find where the town gets all its electricity and catch the villain. Pros: The Story and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not an Hidden Object Game. There is some resource gathering of objects laying around the scene but not like a hidden object game. This is bacisally a point and click puzzler. And far to many of the puzzles involve random guessing instead of logical planning. The art work and music are good but the game play is not. And the possible good story is tied down by tedius puzzle play. If you get this game in a bundle it might be worth a try but I can not reccomend the game at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL:DR - Fun adventure, puzzle, hidden object game. The first thing that struck when when I loaded this game was how much I liked the music and graphics. My first thought on the graphics where that they were in the style of Steampunk, but upon further reflection, the graphics are more closely related to scenes from DaVinci's workbook. The voice acting is during cutscenes is, thankfully, very well done. The cutscenes themselves are pretty fun to watch. Without getting into spoilers, it is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wonderful puzzle game, well actually it is a brain teaser game. Brain teasers are puzzles that look immensely complicated but in reality have remarkably simple solutions. Think Medusa's Knot. Or the old logic brain teaser of how to get an object from the center of a rug without stepping on the rug. Storyline: The Mayor of the Small Town has been kidnapped. It is your job (as a detective) to find him and bring him back. Simple enough. (The opening sequence is actually narrated by the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This a short and inconsistent point-and-click adventure with various game-with-in-game puzzles ranging in difficulty from easy to frustratingly hard. The final puzzle is especially annoying, as it is random and relies more on patience than clever thinking. Note that this is not a hidden-object game (unless you count the annoying task of finding items within very small pixel ranges). Also note that while there are in-game achievements, they are not synced with Steam. The graphics are OK, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have Windows 10, you will be dealing with crashing during the story cutscenes, and the game has no way to replay the main story cutscenes as an autosave is performed just before the cutscene starts. There is no-where on the web where these cutscenes are posted so that you can actually watch them all when your game crashes. Support pages for the product refer to the Russian game makers site, but there is no support for this game on the site, even when translated. This is in the US under…

Game Pros • Authentic hand-drawn artwork. • Not a tasking game, literally your toaster can run it. • You can create profiles coupled with their own save games. • Voice acting. • Clean menu. • Unique story. • Steampunk-esque style. • Puzzles are challenging and innovative. • Classical soundtrack. • Georgeous cut scenes. Controversial Features • No option to turn off hints completely, only to get them less often. • Game is only about…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice afternoon-sized puzzle point&click adventure. This game takes you on a straight story, with tough lock puzzles to solve and items to find to make the locks work in the first place, and cutscenes and bonus art that explains some of the backstory, which is sometimes surprising and very nice. You find the items in the actual scenes, point&click style, and there are no classic hidden object scenes where you have to find items from a list, so it isn't really a hidden object game. You do find…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wish I could give this a clear thumbs up but can't, if I could it would be a maybe. At its core, the game is a solid puzzler with a great set of variety as well as difficulty. Great artwork and serviceable story, I guess. The problem lies in the hidden objects part. There's far too many so-called "pixel hunts" or objects so small or obscure that you have to slowly trawl the pointer across the screen until you get lucky or just use the hint for a clue. Almost immediately in the beginning you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not recommended. Unituitive, bad UI, 4*3 resolution. Story is almost nonexistent. Clues stoppped working half way through the story. Drawing is good though. Also there is an item that you never use and it just stays with you till the end. Kinda stange for a HOG. BTW it's not classical HOG actualy. You just have to pixel-hunt few times to collect several objects.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe I'm just blind or stupid, but I got an hour into the game without ever actually figuring out a puzzle on my own. When you've skipped the puzzle, seen the solution, and still thought to yourself 'Good Lord I would never have figured this out and I still have no idea how they got ths solution", maybe the game is too hard. What I saw of the game is pretty and seems to have interesting lore, but graphics and backstory are not enough to make it worth hitting Hint every time it reloads and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just could not get into this game - the game play did not really have the Hidden objects part down pat - it is difficult to understand what you require and the Help is not really helpfull - I actually found the clues to be clueless and therefore will not be able to rate this game in a positive light. Good luck to other people who might want to play this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great puzzle game. The first thing you are going to enjoy are the graphics and animations this game has. Also, it has a great story and fun story, which is explained by beautifully animated cutscenes. Also, the voice acting during the cutscenes is pretty good. The puzzles you´ll find during the game are very entertaining and trying, and if you met certain conditions, can lead you to unlock extras in-game, such as gallery images. All in all, a great puzzle game with a rich story. if i were…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i'll be frank with everyone... this is the worst point-and-click game i've ever played. as to why i made that statement: - fullscreen only made my laptop's screen resolution go bonkers. changing it to window mode didn't help whatsoever since there's only a small window for you to play the game. i will not forgive the developers since obviously in 2015, our screens are definitely NOT this size even if you're using the latest laptop or computer of the year. - cutscenes have such a low volume and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent puzzle game. Simple but engaging. Pros: * Good difficulty * Puzzles are usually pretty fun and/or inventive Cons: * Pixel-hunting galore (even in the dark!) * Several "find all 5/6/8/10 items!" pixel-hunting. * A cpl puzzles that are just pointlessly difficult to complete, even once you get the point behind it. * The hint system is... odd. DL;DR: If you like puzzles, 7/10 - else, avoid. (my playtime is high because it accidentally ran overnight, my 2nd playthru)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very very good game but... very very difficult one! If you succeed in finishing the game without using any hints congrats to you! Don't start with this one if you are new to hidden objects games! The game background is really nice. 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short puzzle game with some hidden object aspects and a cheesy story set in some magical, steampunk-like world. The puzzles themselves are ok. Some more than others. There are a few very hard slider puzzles but luckily every one of these are skippable if you'd get fed up with them. There's also some very annoying pixel hunting required to discover items hidden in the environment, sometimes even in very dark places. What I disliked most about it is that the environments are just an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is hard, but not bad at all.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the adventure game puzzles, but there were far too many hidden object bits, and overly complicated spatial puzzles. Some adventure game items/interactables are also too difficult to notice.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was pretty fun up until that boss "puzzle". It is unbeatable. I cannot finish this game. DO. NOT. BUY. IT. VERY VERY UNSATISFYING.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a very boring and buggy HOG that is not worth your time. pros. ok gameplay time (a bit more than 3 hours) ok voice acting cons extremely boring complicated mess pixel hunting items low resolution buggy... sometimes the game runs but all is frozen and you have to alt + tab to desktop and back to "resume" overall i give it 1/10 for the game +1 for the for the cards = 2/10 avoid it.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game because I think the puzzles are great and it has a alright story to it. They even manage to add caution and fear to the game. This game has a range of puzzles. Over all if you like a puzzle game that will give a little challenge with a story behind I recommend you give this game a shot. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a really good hidden object/puzzle game. If you've ever enjoyed a game by Big Fish games then you will love The Big Secret of a Small Town. Story: There isn't much story and what there is I had forgotten by the end. You are a detective trying to find the mayor (I think, I honestly forgot all the story by the end). Level Design: It does a great job of keeping the area you can explore small in order to minimize confusion and backtracking. One thing that can get annoying with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game had alot of puzzles, several were the obnoxious " make evverything light up" kind. Some were truly enjoyable. The Last "puzzle" if you can call it a puzzle was a deal killer for me. I realized at this point that the developers ran out of ideas and decided that punishing you for purchasing the game was a good idea. I like logic not random events when trying to solve. I stopped it there and moved on. Decent game overall but that killed it for me . I can't recommend a game that tries…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: - Great Hand-Drawn Art - Complex Puzzle Cons: - Game doesn't run on HD Resolution ( Note: I've change resolution on the config.ini but it doen't make a sense ) - Sometime Hint aren't too helpful - Can't switch to Windowed mode even if i already un-check the Fullscreen, i think it was a bug Overall story is great and Object is completely Hidden. My Score for this game: 8 / 10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Big Secret of a Small Town is a point and click "crime solving game." (And it is mind bendingly difficult.) You use your mouse to interact with a still screen. You find objects that you need to continue on to the next area. You will need to do a lot of back tracking and searching around carefully. I would recommend playing this on the easy mode, at least at first, so you can get a handle on how the game play works. Hints will tell you what you need to look for next or how certain items…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →* I was provided a key for review purposes * If you like casual, point and click, puzzle, hidden object games then this is a good new title. The graphics and sound are nice, the puzzles are varied, and there are cut scenes to help drive the story along. If you get stuck, the hint system works really well, and if a puzzle is too hard or you just don't feel like doing it you can skip it. Admittedly this is not a genre I have a lot of experience playing, but I enjoyed my time with this title.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really didnt follow the story but didnt mind. Good puzzles except when pixel hunting for tiny pieces made me crazy. Also the final puzzle just wasnt fun. But on the whole I liked the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art is beautiful and the story, while a little thin, is interesting but my biggest frustration is when you get to (what I think is) the final puzzle. There appears to be no real solution and while I'm sure someone smarter than me can figure it out I am incapable of it. This only fostered a sense of frustration and anger because without beating this puzzle I will never see the end of the game or solve the "mystery". For that reason I can't recommend the game to anyone because if completing a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A rather boring and slow point and click with uninteresting story and visual style and bad written and implemented puzzles. Not recommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this type of game and I hate to see it end. I must admit I got stumped on a couple of puzzles and used the skip....but thankfully one can move on and enjoy more searching and playing. Some items to find are very small but just keep moving around and touch everything to see if you can pick it up and don't be afraid to use some items where it doesn't seem logical. Notice everything. Great game in my opinion and I hope they have more like it or that I can find similar ones…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A challenging but short adventure game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very similar to other games of this genre, but still there is something special about this game. Wether its the nice design, the variety in the puzzles or the right difficulty I don´t know, but all in all I liked this game better then the usual ones.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting, colourfull and joyfull game. Lots of puzzles. Must have for point and click puzzle story lovers. Recommend it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this game groundbreaking? Not really. It's a point and click puzzle game. Does it have a great story? It's...different, sure, told through cutscenes narrated by the villain. But nothing fantastic. Is it entertaining? I thought so. A lot of reviewers compared this to a "hidden object game" but I don't really see it that way. Sure, there are hidden objects that you have to find, but that's where the similarity ends. You don't have a list of items in a scene straight out of that show Hoarders.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice myster game . You have to solve puzzle and very good puzzle. This is a fun and changing game . If you like puzzle game recommend you to pick this game up
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →here is my review of the game this game is fun thats for sure the hand drawn graphics i like alot this game has a nice mysterious story that makes me want to find out how and why the cut scenes have a nice art style and love watching them when i find one i do like the the music i have played many hidden object games in my life and this game is my most favourite hidden object game pros: -lovely graphics -enjoyable cutscenes -great time waster -mysterious story that makes people get connect to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I agree with the other reviews posted here. This game is not so much a hidden object game as it is a puzzle type scavenger hunt that requires you to find items and piece them together to solve problems. It took me by surprise actually as I weekly search for hidden object games on Steam and when this popped up I bought it thinking that is what it was. I am not disappointed however as the story is good but it does lack some things. The hints button is not that helpful and sometimes you can miss…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the style and the way of the narrative. The objects are a bit too well hidden and the final boss fight is too anoying and facepalm material after you find out how to beat it. Overall is the game pretty ok for the price. Its no must have though. Recommendable
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun and accessible puzzle game, well worth the price of admission
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring HOG. The puzzles were laggy and some bugged. Definitely do not recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I like point-n-click quests, this is rubbish -- boring gameplay, no story, hard to find pixel sized objects etc. Pass, deleting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TENTATIVE APPROVAL: The main reason I'm giving this a "yes" rating is because of the unique style. Buy it on sale, or if you're desperate for HOG action.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clever and different game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →High pixel hunting, standard puzzles with very hard difficulty, not a story that gets any curiosity. Only pro would be that it's not a short game. P.S. Final puzzle was very very bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have no clear idea why I got this game in the first place. I didn't - I don't ever enjoy these kinds of games. As I cruise my collection, there is a chance I might have a similar game in my library. I truly hope I do not. Anyhow, I suspect, because I spent any time on any of these game, it came recommended. That excuse doesn't really sound good. That is the one I will have to accept, because I won't be circling back to share a more reasonable answer. I just didn't enjoy this game. With it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wasn't so fond of this HO game. A lot of pixel hunting, and vague directions. Some puzzles don't have a skip option. The last "catch the villain" bit is frustrating.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worthwhile point and click with mostly above average puzzles. A couple puzzles where annoyingly tedious. Also a couple puzzles border very closely to hidden object. The biggest downside is the resolution is not adjustable so you have to play it in a very small window.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buy it if you like: Pixel chasing (hope your screen does not have a dead pixel and the object to find is just there} Trivial puzzles The concept of not having any consistence so mixing up everything to make a non story and put different kind of puzzles inside Decreasing visuals quality over your progress Having a big object for cursor but you need to click exactly where the mouse pointer should be Spending money on things staying on the shelf ... The good thing is, you can skip annoying…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →** BIG SPOILER INCLUDED WHERE INDICATED ** It's ok, definitely dated but the puzzles are challenging. If you can get it for a couple of quid, why not - it will while away a few hours. **SPOILER** The final puzzle might take you a year or two, unless you pay particular attention to the one missing square, and the trick you can play there...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get this game. It's not worth it. The puzzles are frustrating at best. The story is boring and most of the time you will be pixel hunting in dark rooms.
