What people are saying
Mixed reactions: praised for atmosphere and puzzles, but criticized for bugs and acting.
Many players enjoyed the game's dreamlike atmosphere, variety of puzzles, and the use of live-action cutscenes. However, several criticized the poor English translation, bugs, and cringe-worthy voice acting. [8][9][22][29]
Some found the gameplay engaging and the story interesting, while others felt the puzzles were obtuse and the live-action segments disjointed from the animated parts. [14][30][31]

60 of 188 · most liked firstThe dreamer can know no truth, not even about his dream, except by awaking out of it. - George Santayana At first glimpse, nothing seems to actually stand out with this game. In its essence, The Last Dream is a fragmented object game - or a FRAG as called by the veterans of the hidden object genre. Pretty interface, expected gameplay, a selection of puzzles... But its beauty in execution and thematic nuances centering the notion of dream; and a hopeless pursuit of love, hiding a heartbreaking…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Last Dream: Developer's Edition is a relaxing point and click adventure that follows closely all the characteristics of a HOG game; however it excels through several original elements that make it distinguish itself from the other games of this genre. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=601834771 The first original element of the game is the protagonist - which in this case is not a woman, but a young man, Ben. After a tragic accident, the spirit of Ben's wife starts…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Last Dream (Adventure-lite/FROG) Options are basic, with separate sliders for music and sound, cursor choice, and full-screen/windowed, and with four difficulty levels. Tutorial is optional, though disabled if you are playing on the hardest difficulty. Cutscenes are skippable, and are all live-action. The music is pretty, and the acting is OK, though the English voice overs are nearly cringe-worthy. The game does a very nice job of integrating the live actors into the game itself by…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The last dream is a story about a married couple, what caught my attention first was the logo of the game, the heart and two faces, a genius idea. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=906122825 When the game first started I was so amazed how good and realistic the artwork is, only a couple of moments after I realized it was actually a movie (Live action) and not an art which I kind of disliked the more I advanced into the game. At the beginning the story was slow and boring…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has a few major bugs and poor English translation This is a FROG (Fragmented Object Game) with a simple story: you play a man who has lost his wife in a car accident and must find your way to her, in a series of dreams or whatever. The game is high on the adventure component: you search for objects, sometimes combine them, then use them on other objects in the scene to overcome obstacles. The rest of the game comprises puzzle minigames and looking for fragment object pieces in scenes, which are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Last Dream is a beautiful casual adventure / 'hidden object' game. 'Hidden object' here is quoted since the game does share a lot of elements with HOG games, but doesn't actually feature any Hidden Object puzzles! Instead, all puzzles are either of the inventory kind, or where you're presented with a limited list of items to find on a static screen and have to combine them to create and find another object. The story is told through full motion video and voice-over. When the video ends it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fine hidden-object game. Well, it has the variant of HOG scene known as a FROG scene, which is a fragmented-hidden-object scene. That is to say, you have to find 15 items, usually split so it's 3 groups of 5 items each, or 5 groups of 3 items each. The trick is that you can at first find only 13 items. Once you combine one of the groups, this completed item is needed to help you get the 14th item. You are then able to combine another group, helping you to get the final item.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short version: 77% The Last Dream is a fragmented object game where gameplay takes a secondary role to make room for the beautifully rendered scenery and a strange, eerie atmosphere, tied to a story of a husband who chases the ghost of his wife through his dreams. Long version: Technically, The Last Dream can be classified as a fragmented object title. In practise though, it has only ten fragmented scenes and roughly twice as many puzzles with a difficulty rating of almost zero (except if the…

I try to only review games I think I'll enjoy The Last Dream makes great strides to take the adventure/hidden object genre to new levels of depth. As Specialbit's second Steam release, I am very impressed with the quality and attention to detail. This is coming from someone who was previously not overly interested in the genre, but it's fair to say they have a fan in me. Not your typical hidden object game by any means, here are some of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although classified Hidden Object, in reality The Last Dream is a smattering of many different puzzles and plays more like the classic 90's adventure games in first person. Its story is muddied by some sloppy localization, but is essentially a surreal journey through a couple's dreams. An easy recommendation for casual puzzle and HOG fans. Pros + Variety of puzzles keeps the journey from going stale + The Hidden Object portions add inventory item use, still easy but a nice touch + Full motion…

It is more like an adventure game than a hog(the hog part is the fragmented object kind and not annoying at all) The FMV makes it interactive and it's engrossing. I have had to disable the high DPI and run it in compatibuilty mode for windows xp ... Edited; finished...LOVED the game. Highly recommended I also loved the music which was non intrusive and a little melancholy but VERY fitting for the story...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look, you've played HOGs, I've played HOGs -- we all know the hidden-object drill by now. So just assume that "The Last Dream" scratches that HOG itch just fine, and instead of an actual review I'm just gonna note the random things that stood out here: -Somehow the guy playing the husband in the live-action scenes still managed to be a bad actor without saying a word. Respect. -It just wouldn't be a HOG without cheese, so the bad acting is actually a plus here. Ditto the heart-on-sleeve soft…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction The Last Dream: Developer's Edition is a surreal hidden item game about a man trying to find his wife. The story is rich, engaging and heartfelt with voice acting and full motion video cutscenes. Everything in this game blends together to create an experience that can be easily played in one sitting as you may find it hard to pull yourself away. This title is a beautiful piece of work and a prime example of how video games can be more than just games, and can also be great…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well presented casual adventure game with some quite challenging puzzles. There are a few FROG puzzles, but otherwise the game really focuses on the adventure elements. A few of those elements are 'find the missing piece for the next puzzle', but the majority is proper inventory based point & click. The graphics are very well drawn and the cut sequences with real actors match the story. The music and sound effects support the atmosphere. Overall there's really nothing bad to say about the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good little game to help pass the time. Nice puzzles and beautiful art work throughout. Not a taxing game, so recommended for an easy afternoon, great for people who like hidden object games with puzzles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Painful voice acting (with the voice actor reading a typo aloud - how do you even manage that?) and gameplay more focused on solving obtuse puzzles rather than the usual even mix between HO scenes and mini games. Not as enjoyable as I'd hoped. Get it cheap or watch an LP if you like HOGs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Last Dream: Developer’s Edition (TLDDE), developed by Specialbit Studio, add their own touch to the over-saturated market of hidden object games. Being their second title, a labor of love label could be applied here. Originally published by Artifex Mundi, at the Steam Store, the game now shows Specialbit Studio as publisher as well. Compared to Artifex Mundi HOG’s, The Last Dream is more refined in the genre. TLDDE definitely has beautiful, colorful graphics. The background of locations…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible. I commend the effort put into having decent voice-acting, the use of live-action cutscenes and possibly an original soundtrack for the ending of the game. However, the live-action cutscenes feel disjointed from the main game which is mostly animated; while they both tell the same story, the cognitive dissonance between the animation and realistic cutscenes did not sit well with me. The story itself is your typical, run-of-the-mill standard HOG fare, but at least the plot makes sense…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a little different from your average HOG, and it captures the weirdness of the dream world quite well. My only caveat is there's no map, and it can be slightly frustrating to figure out what to do next (some of the active zones are a bit small or hard to find). That said, the lack of a map does lend to the immersive, altered-state of consciousness feel. The overarching story is interesting, although for most of the game you're just following along after the ghostly image of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mix of hidden object, mini-games, and inventory puzzles gives about 6 hrs of enjoyment. It's worth getting but only on a good discount, YMMV. If you've played TRAUMA on Steam this is a similar game, but with a bit more too it. It's about a third each of hidden object, mini-games, and inventory puzzles. The atmosphere has a dream-like quality. The artwork is good, but not great. There's a bunch of live-actor video cutscenes, and I can't say the voice overs or music were exceptional. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring, with unclear instructions on some puzzles, and no plot - I had no idea why I was doing some of the things I was doing, which just makes me not want to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really nice hidden object game. I don't really have any complaints about it and personally I haven't encountered any bugs or issues while playing. I quite liked that the cutscenes are actual recorded video and not just animations like every other hidden object I have ever played. Works without any issues with Proton (7.0-3).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played through this game once before, several years ago, and can't remember what I thought of it then. On this playthrough, however, it broke. For the first session it played normally, but when I reloaded the save the next day, it loaded the starting scene with all the actions completed, then crashed when I tried to move through to the next scene. I tried restarting the program, but the problem persists. The bug means the game is unplayable, so unfortunately, based on this experience, I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a routine mobile ported hidden object casual puzzle/adventure game with a kind of modern mystery/dream/ghost theme. Solving various puzzles and hidden object minigames progresses the plot and unravels the mystery. As with most mobile ported HOGs, there's a simplistic interface, locked/unchangeable screen resolution, next to no customisability, and somewhat low resolution graphical assets. All of this puts this game below minimum standards for a contemporary PC game. Once more we…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would've given a neutral review if I could. The game itself is okay-ish: simple puzzles and decent graphics. There's one thing though that made me cringe like hell: video acting (which you are basically forced to watch if you want Film buff achievement). It is beyond awful. Like, seriously, devs could have asked actor students to do it and it would have been by an order of magnitude better than theirs. It's just worse than b-movie acting. Other than that the game is fine.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this one. Cool use of real world video to propel the story. A 70/100 effort. The good Live actor video Some challenging puzzles Well drawn and animated An involving story The HO scenes are good The bad Minimal replay value Some pixel hunting involved Music can get grating

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A surprisingly good game. Old school style of point and click, with some interactions with a cat friend to help you solve puzzles. A good story as well, backed with real videos, which is also nice to watch and a good voice acting for a change. Decent price as well, which is a + A really nice eerie atmosphere with gorgeous colours, good animations, and a solid immersive soundtrack. A very good change from hidden object games, this one focus more on object interactivity and help from your pet…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty mediocre HOG with one unique feature: Live action cut scenes. It doesn't really work though. Just seems disjointed. I did like the kind of hidden object scenes. They were the kind where you have to find parts of items in groups, where each item assembled works to find other parts of item groupings. This adds interest, but the rest were mediocre: art, story, just okay. But on deep sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the same developper of "Inbetween land" another excellent surprise. The only terrible part is coming from the bonus story, which is completely bugged if you want to do it a second time as everything is already used and you can't progress come the moment you reach the "card opening the floor pannel" part.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those games I'd like to give a middle rating instead of a harsh thumbs down. It's not horrible, but it's not all that good either. The story is okay, but story telling is just a bit too cheesy for me, especially with the real life movie sequences. Some of the puzzle explanations were lacking, so that made them quite frustrating to complete. I don't mind that the hidden object scenes were of the fragmented kind, but I wish they wouldn't have only used those. Some "regular" hidden…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amateur and cringy version of Sanitarium. Striking story elements are wasted on poor story telling and often distracted by mindless and repetetive hidden object games. Too structured, too forced, and out of focus.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Last Dream was a pretty decent HOG. Doesn't take long to beat and the story wasn't to bad. Not the best of what I've played but still pretty good. If you like HOG games check it out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a interesting game and many twist and turns in this game about a man who keeps seeing his wife in dreams and visiting places they know and feels that she is still around and needs to find her and see what is the truth. I liked the use of live actors although the lips don't move and was different to the other hidden object games as, you have dark moments and also have a cat companion who helps out and even in the bonus which is a good thing. Puzzles can be easy to difficult depending…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great little gem, The Last Dream takes you on a hidden object/puzzle adventure to figure out what's going on in your dreams, leading to an ultimate realisation about what's going on. I played this game on the hardest setting (basically no hints or clues whatsoever) and the game set quite a good challenge. You'll need to think a little outside the box when combining items and the puzzles are quite testing at times which does make this game suitable for those wanting a challenge. Graphics are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →H.O.G... That actually has real people doing the cinematics! This is the first time I saw a H.O.G. with such a thing. It also has a cat. And a love story. And a cat. And a dog in a Bonus game. And a cat to help you. And has everything that you'd expect from this type of a game. Sometimes I can't figure out where the item should go or be used... It's not always instinctual... But I persevered and saw the ending... Then the Bonus ending... The game taught me what the word "HOPE"…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After finishing Stormhill Mystery, I was drawn to try Specialbit's previous game, The Last Dream. Both games play very similar, being point-and-click adventure games with puzzle and hidden object elements. But in TLD the hidden object scenes are a lot more prominent, and there are sections where you find fragmented hidden objects and combine them. It also has some pretty difficult puzzles (harder than the ones in SM) and follows a linear story. Due to the dreamlike theme and setting, some parts…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the last dream, you are trying to get out of your dreams. You are trapped due to a traumatic experience and you are worried about losing your wife. Other than that the rest of the storyline is unnecessary. However, most Artifex Mundi games have very weak and forgetful storylines. The problem with this game is a lack of character. The FMV for the cut scenes weaken the fun of the game. Instead it takes itself way too seriously, and then turns back into a "dream" world in order to allow…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’d probably go with a mixed review if I could. I liked the story, but some of the puzzles were not explained properly. I’ll go with a thumbs up because I was able to get all the achievements and I didn’t notice any bugs or glitches during the game. This is not a standard Hidden Object Game (HOG) with lists of objects to find. It is a Fragmented Hidden Object Game (FROG) with pictures of components to find. Once all the components have been found, then an object is assembled. Assembled…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am not liking this game. There's little direction in what you need to do or where you need to go. Multiple times in my mere 1.4 hrs of this game I just have no idea what to do next. Mostly I have been able to progress by random clicking on things and getting lucky. But sometimes the game is so obtuse I have to resort to the hint button just to figure out what to do next. Better games telegraphic objectives much more effectively. This game also 'features' a helper (a cat). That means…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, it's a hidden object / adventure-lite game, like billions of others. If you like 'em, you'll enjoy this well enough, but the story is so bloody cheesy I wanted to shoot myself. Tempted to not-recommend because of it, but I guess it squeaks by. Don't get it unless it's cheap. If you're an achievement hunter, you can get them all on a single playthrough on the easiest difficulty.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This Hidden Object Game tells the story of a man trying to connect with his wife' spirit after a terrible car accident. I recommend this game, but I'm not completely happy with it. The real world cutscenes are well done and graphics are nice and well detailed, music and voices are good too, however there aren't as many HO scenes and puzzles as other games and the transition between one scenario and the next lacks logic (I know that looking for logic in a HOG is pretty useless...but I can still…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Last Dream successfully adds a serious dose of story-telling to its traditional point-and-click / puzzle gameplay. Live-action cutscenes (shot in “found footage” style) and a decent voice-over are big positives. It is occasionally unclear what to do next (the hint system helps). Puzzles provide a challenge, but aren’t too hard, and the game is a decent length at ~3 hours or so. Recommended for fans of the genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a simple point and click game that is relaxing. some of the puzzles can be difficult (for me at least) but the rest otherwise pretty simple to solve. the voice acting isnt great but at least we see real people in cit scenes that i havent seen in games for a while. not worth at full price but certainly worth your time if you like somehting to chill out and solve puzzles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very short, quite simple and definitely not worth the price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The strong story, told with effective live-action cut scenes, as well as the imaginative puzzles and challenges make this a terrific casual point-and-click adventure. Actually, it's a bit harder than other games in this genre (if you avoid using hints), but with some patience everything can be solved logically. There are few fragmented-object scenes, a variation on hidden-object that in my opinion is inferior. It's more challenging to find an object by its name without knowing its shape than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a decent game. Voice acting is meh, but the visuals are beautiful. Most of the cut scenes are in live action, but are skipable. It's a very quick game, but once you complete it there is also a side story and the option to replay puzzles. I got it on sale so it was worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really great. Amazing story, nice graphic and logic minipuzzles.
