negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT: As of Feburary 18, 2015, GamerByDay has managed to restore the achievements the game had to begin with, but I still cannot recommend that you buy this game or support Mumbo Jumbo until the issue is fully fixed. Frankly, the fact that it took almost a whole year - from March 2014 when people began reporting issues about the broken achievements to February 2015 - for this issue to be fixed is rather baffling, to say the least. Not helping Mumbo Jumbo's case is their lack of action to fix…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This might be an excellent game. I couldn't tell. Because even in full screen mode, the resolution is set. It doesn't stretch or scale to the size of the screen. My monitor has a high resolution, so I COULDN'T SEE WHAT I WAS DOING. How a game created in 2012 could fail to accomodate people with even mid-range monitors and screen resolutions baffles me. I solved the very first level and then gave up, because it was giving me a headache. Don't get this game unless you either have a 1024x768…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In conclusion, Midnight Mysteries Salem Witch Trials works on most levels and contains some exceptional graphics and a haunting soundtrack. Puzzles are not as difficult as some other hidden object games but unfortunately the replay value is quite limited to either one or two attempts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short version: 70% It may be a hidden object game, but the obscurity of some puzzles, especially related to the inventory, puts Salem Witch Trials on the difficulty range of some old point ‘n’ click adventure games. If you expect an easy HOG, buckle up. Long version: Midnight Mysteries 2: The Salem Witch Trials was the game that introduced the plot-driven lightweight adventure game format to this franchise of hidden object games. It did so with a unique approach, so there are many differences…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is basicaly a hidden object game. Nothing to rant about. But what is really bad, is that the support for this game is below any measure. The achievements are broken. So you can play this game through, but you'll never see the achievements on Steam. I downvote this game because of the nonexistent support. The publisher should now wear the hat and shirt of shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The second of a series of five games here on steam, Salem Witch Trials is a very enjoyable classic HOG game, with good HOG scenes as well as some fun puzzles. The artwork is very pleasing to the eye and makes for great atmosphere. The sound is good as well, all keeping with the theme/atmosphere. There is one major, but fixable, problem with the game, the achievements do not work unless you peruse the forums for the game and find a thread about how to get the achievements to work. It's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So... you don't fix your game, but instead remove achievements and screw everyone over that ever achieved at least one in this game. If this is your way to deal with problems you should really just stop selling games anywhere. Steam doesn't fix their problems either, but you should just have just fixed your damn game instead of removing a feature completely and pulling people's average completion ratio down to zero.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a lot to complain when it comes to this hidden object game: - the achievements don't work unless you switch to a beta branch of the game - some items in the hidden object scenes have weird descriptions - minigames are really easy - personally I am not a big fan of the art style - you missed one collectable right at the beginning of the game without realizing? Tough luck, you gotta replay the whole game again. Works fine with Proton (7.0-3).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not nearly as good as the Edgar Allen Poe mystery. The puzzles didn't feel as connected, and the hidden objects were completely uninvolved with the story. In the EAP one, they felt meaningful to the story, and you would use objects found, to find other objects. it was cool. This one has you find a bunch of objects, and then seemingly unrelated, find one more object that was there the whole time -- you just couldn't click on it. The game was more complex, and the puzzles were obtuse -- I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This mystery games suffers from some lack of direction. Most of these are great in the Midnight Mystery series but this one has parts that lead to nothing. Scripted events that take place at certain locations means sometimes wandering all over to find that next event to randomly occur so you can proceed. It is not a mystery that can be solved when these are random events instead of puzzles its just wandering around aimlessly. Rating: 2/10 Value: $0.99
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this Game a while back in a huge Mumbo Jumbo Bundle and I am not dissapointed. First off this is the second Midnight Mysteries / HO game in the series and before you go ahead and play this one, I strongly recommend playing the first one, otherwise you will be a bit confused on whats going on. Whilst the Story is different from the first one it still has features that get explained in there and you would not want to miss them. Second of all I noticed that this is also the first one…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an ancient Hidden Object Game, and it shows in some of its inefficiencies (no easy travel, illogical directions, excess objects, a tendency to put vital information in the journal and not present it to the player, etc.). And the story, which ties Nathaniel Hawthorne to some blood curse from the Salem Witch Trials and a Native American land treaty seems pretty incomprehensible - maybe it's because I'm not as familiar with Hawthorne as I was with Poe (the first author in the series).…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I guess the title is taken from one of the action-adventure-thriller novel of salem with trials. Having played the game naturally increased my curiosity to research more on the internet about the same because the real story remained unaware for me before I played the game. So the events of the game is as per the events of salem witch trials which were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. More than two…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →was a fun game but the Steam Achievements are broken, played game all the way throught got about 6 or 7 achievements (showes up in game) but nothing comes up on steam, even after uninstalling and reinstalling :( and that is why I'm ging it a thumb down, If this get's fixed then and only then shall I change it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another good hidden object game following a storyline about the Salem With Trials. Great graphics and good casual gaming fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good point and click hidden object. The Follow the ghost style plot the carry through the entire series. Decent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Superb! Absolutely loving it! A casual Hidden Object game with realistic graphics. Play as a detective with medium powers to solve the case of the mysterious death of Nathaniel Hawthorne. Action takes place in the Puritan times of Salem, Massachusetts. PROS: - Realistic graphics with chilling visuals and eerie music / sounds; - Gorgeous hand-drawn map; - Detailed journal that shows the mind of the protagonist; - Diverse puzzles; - Crows and shamrock collectibles that unlock HO minigames…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As far as stories go, it was alright but nothing spectacular. The hidden object scenes were mostly normal difficulty with several times where I couldn't find an object simply because I had no idea what the named object was. Art design is actually pretty good. Only odd thing that I experienced was that occasionally something would Alt+Tab me out to the desktop which was weird, but I never lost my progress and the game window was still there, just had to select it to switch back and continue.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The good The HO puzzles are clear and make sense (unlike some other games of this ilk) A few challenging puzzles Pretty decent story (Nathaniel Hawthorne/Salem witch hunts) Reasonable voice acting Bright and crisp visuals The bad Minimal replay value Achievement awarding can be buggy Forgettable music
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I could have been very pleased with this game even if I didn't undersand all the story. But there is a well known bug with the achievements. The devs don't seem to want to do anything about it. That's too bad and extremely frustrating.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This would have been a perfectly good HO/puzzle title if some of the progression requirements were clearer. Of course, you can always use the hints you've accumulated, but overreliance on these defeats the purpose. As it was, I had to fall back on them more than once after bouncing futilely back and forth between every area of the game trying to figure out what I was supposed to do next. Still, if you get it cheap, it's a decent experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a big step up from the Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy, being much more involved in the puzzle-solving aspect. Like most Casual Hidden Object Games, you have to limit yourself when it comes to using hints and skipping puzzles to get a fuller, longer, and more challenging experience. Only recommended to those who like hidden object games and if you buy it in a bundle with the other three Midnight Mysteries. I don't know much about Nathaniel Hawthorne, so I can't comment too much on the story,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a quite nicely done cross between a hidden object game and a first person point n click game - which actually slightly took my by surprise because I was expecting more hidden objects and less "should I use the chicken with the pulley?" moments. That said it worked nicely, although at a few points I wasn't entirely certain where to go, although at that point I rifled through my inventory items and worked out the first of two rather delightful easter eggs within the game. The puzzles are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good game, with fair but tough HO scenes and a few puzzles (mostly on the easier side). I enjoyed the story, but found it wasn't as easy to follow as it could have been. There was lots to it, it just wasn't all very well-explained. That said, kudos for a story that takes a look at the less-than-savoury circumstances surrounding land acquisition in America, both immediately after colonization and during civil war times. Play time is very good, and it takes a lot of looking to find…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PC Steam Duration: just over 2 hours. This is an interesting HO game. Plot is deeper than most HOGs and sometimes feels like "what do I do now?" but then if you read the diary it usually becomes apparent. note: Achievements appear to be broken. I really don't know if I recommend this or not. I guess for 2 hours, it's worth trying to see if the story is worth your while.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy hidden item games then I do recommend this one, however, I also recommend you play all four in the series in order. Each game is an experience and unique in its own way. This one is a big step forward from the first Midnight Mysteries but also a few steps back. Nice graphics, better interface, achievements and hidden things to find and do...all great. The story however is a bit all over the place and seems to lack direction. And this can lead to aimless wandering at certain…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Storywise the game is fine, yet mechanics wise it has some serious issues 1. Achievements don't work without a beta build 2. Clicks in HO scenes get counted even if you open a journal(triggering anti random clicking protection) 3. Game tries to use simple riddles instead of some item names in the scenes. They aren't of the bast quality so in the end they just make it more confusing and introduce an unnecessary language barrier for people less fluent in English 4. Save gets deleted once you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thumbs down! There are achievements for pointless collectible items: ravens, clovers and silver dollars. However, the game doesn’t even tell you how many ravens and clovers you have to find. (28 ravens and 63 clovers) In addition, the regular version of the game is broken. In order to get any achievements, you have to install the beta version and rename a file. (There are instructions in the forums.) The beta version itself has some glitches such that you might need to replay the whole game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad HoG game, but ENSURE you select the 'Achievements' BETA before playing to get steam achievements . You will also need to rename the exe of the game in its folder to MidnightMysteriesSalemWitchTrials.exe instead of what it downloads as.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A big fat "meh" for this one. the first one was much better. pros. ok story ok art work cons. BROKEN ACHIEVEMENTS! you have to look for a workaround to get them (check the forums) or you will have zero of them low resolution no wide screen support very short ( less than 2 hours for the main story and 3 minutes for the bonus chapter? it is not even a story just move around and find 100 coins which are not blended well in the scenes) no real bonus story you will have so many items in you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've just finished this game. And believe it or not, but this was the best HOG I've ever played. Super thrilling and eerie. I played it in one turn. Sadly the achievements are buggy, but that's not so tragic. Thumbs up!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good hidden object game. Nice graphic and sounds. You can earn achievements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the achievments are broken
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game explores the tragedy that occured in Salem, Masachuettes which is the unfair trial of people convicted as witches when simply I think the victims who accused the others were experenicing epilepsy. So before going into anything i just want to say that this game has a HUGE BUG where the achievements won't be recognized in steam. And it has to be fixed by well yourself because the developers OBVIOUSLY don't give a hell about this. I'll link the fix which worked for me.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the artwork is nice, and it's a typical point and click/hidden object adventure with (presumably) a decent and interesting storyline, the game engine and game assets aren't suited for modern PCs. So I can't get too far into the game to find out. Game options don't allow resolution to be changed, aspect ratio is limited to 4:3 (meaning everything is stretched on a monitor from this decade). In general the game options are very limited and well below par for a PC game. As such the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent story and easy to medium object finding. Good graphics and music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed playing this game. I played through all of Story Mode. As someone who is new to this type of game, one feature I wish had been included was some way to have hints for the puzzles. Sometimes, I got very stuck and my only options were to either go online to find out the solution or to "skip", which did not allow me to learn how to solve the puzzle. The downside was that in looking online, I got the whole solution, when I would have preferred just getting a starting hint of some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun simple puzzle game, but it's buggy. Achievements don't work unless you choose an build from Betas men, and that version is also broken (game keeps minimizing randomly) and doesn't have Steam overlay. other than that, I had fun with it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Firstly, the story of this HOG is a bit weird. It's good and I did enjoy it, but it definitely is on the weirder side of HOG stories. It feels like the MC was going down one hole after another hole after another hole. By the end of the game, I had forgotten what the main point of the story was, but it was still an enjoyable ride. The very beginning also felt like you just kinda get thrown into the story, so not sure if playing the first Midnight Mysteries would help with that as I didn't play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I enjoyed the subject matter, and the plot- the hidden object aspect just wasn't fun. The biggest problem I had with this game was the hint system. Instead of giving your guidelines on where to go, which can be pretty helpful if you get stuck, they use the hint system to show you the area where an item in your inventory can be used. This is great and all if: half the items you get early on weren't used till the end of the game, weren't "Easter egg" items that took up space but weren't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game definitely improved from the first game by a league, but it still suffers from unintuitive user experience. It's quite slow due to animation locks and some bugs for speedrunners or completionists to breeze through the gameplay as you have to take everything slow in order for the unskippable animations to cycle through. There are unexplained elements that the players would normally never figure out, and some of the graphics of hidden objects are incredibly hard to tell what they…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many bugs. Too confusing and there is so many better hog on steam that I did not care try much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: achievements don't work in the default Steam version, you must get a beta, this post shows you how to make most of them function: http://steamcommunity.com/app/208620/discussions/0/558750717293299852/?ctp=2#c619569608725740398 But there are still 3 that didn't work for me: Black Hole, for not using hints in HOS HOG Wild, for completing a HOS in 1m Irish Rover, for collecting all the clovers hidden throughout the game (assuming this walkthrough lists them all:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOTICE: Achievements will only work if you: 1. opt into the games achievement beta 2. change the games exe file name (midnightmysteries2.exe) to (MidnightMysteriesSalemWitchTrials.exe) bit of a pain, but this will make it work. Besides that, the game is actually really good. The puzzles arent too hard or boring easy, theres ravens and clovers to hunt in different areas, and 2 special combine bonus games. It also has a coin hunt and hog unlimited scenes after you complete the game. the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cant in good conscience give a thumbs up for this game since it still seems to be broken and buggy in regards to the achievements they seem to work fine ingame but they dont register properly on your steam page and this seems to have been an issue since 2014 so that indicates that the developer has no interest in fixing the bugs in this game, the game itself is fun to play and if you dont really care about the achievement part of it then buy all means buy the game but wait until it is on sale…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than the first for story I thought, however it is kind of short yet again. It did take me a few playthroughs to unlock all achievements, which was frustrating and after the 3rd time, tedious, so I would not say it has replayability at all. On the whole, I would probably give this a 3/5 but it is still worth getting in a bundle, or on discount, not at full price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was an O.K. game. Just O.K. not great by any means but not terrible. The puzzles and hidden objects were, in my opinion, far to easy. The story was a 6/10 it felt a bit all over the place and was confusing at times. I did like the graphics they were very nice. The length of the game was great as well. I am giving this a thumbs up because I feel that a child around 10 or so would thourghly enjoy this (as long as they have a thick skin and do not get scared easy) I would say if this game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You just reminded me of a game demo that I used to play on Big Fish. Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy
unlabelledView post →The Steam achievements aren't synced with the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Problem 1 - Achievements are broken. Earning them shows an in game notification, but does not show them on steam. Problem 2 - Hint system is terrible. Hints showing you how to use an inventory item is useless when the next thing you need to do requires an item you didn't even know existed. I needed the oven mit, which was in a drawer I didn't know to open, to get the wrench "key" as the only thing I could do next. These were just the unique issues with this game, it had some of the standard…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is not half bad, but achievements are broken
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AN INTRIGING GAME ENJoYED IT
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game. It has a good story and is more challenging than many HO games. The Easter eggs are fun to find (only found 1 of 2 so far). The HO scenes are not very hard, but the fun in this game is finding the clues to advance the plot of the story. I highly recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →massively glitched out and broken, has been since it was released. i managed to get all the way to the end with minimal fuss before it bugged out and i could no longer even finish. glad i got this in a bundle and didn't actually buy it cause it isn't worth the dollar i paid, let alone 10 bucks straight up avoid this company, they dont fix ♥♥♥♥ and dont respond either. made a tech issue thread that never answered anything, not to mention deleting 8 pages worth of peoples complaints usually i…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OK HOG game, but achievements are broken... played through it twice (once with and once without the achievemnt beta) not a single achievement unlocked... so stay away if you're after those
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the price Midnight Mysteries: Salem Witch Trials should offer a premium HOG experience and not only does it fall short, it falls on it's face and should be avoided by everyone. There is no voice acting, which for the price is unacceptable, the puzzles are so simple they take seconds to complete and the HOG's are totaly uninspired. The setting could have made for a very intresting story, instead it barely hangs together by a thread but worst of all is that the game is broken and MumboJumbo,…
