When launching any battle, the game displays a dark screen while music continues to play, but otherwise locks up. The game cannot be played. The developer is aware the game is defective, even having a stickied discussion post highlihting that the game doesn't work. "Cossacks II: Battle for Europe" is an ancient game from 2006. It's a whopping 18 years old at the time of this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It worked fine for a few weeks, then all of a sudden, the game started to crash, no explanation or anything. Was working and now it's not. If anyone has a solution, I'm all ears.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the best Napoleonic RTS games ever created. It incorporates both base building and combat on very scenic maps in isometric projection, Infantry are formed into companies and cavalry into squadrons and both may be used in formations to battle the enemy. The battles are fought on maps with roads and with villages that give resources. The villages are strategic targets to capture and hold to add their resource supply to your economy. One of the games best features is that it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a big fan of the Cossacks series since it came out in 2000. I have owned and played every title in the series: European Wars, Back to War, the Art of War, Cossack II Napoleonic Wars, Cossacks II battle for Europe and "Cossacks 3. In my Opinion Cossack II Battle for Europe, is without any doubt the best game in the series. It fixed most of the issues of its predecessors, less micro management too, and focuses on combat with beautiful line formations that do not break apart the moment…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, i really do. I also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate it. but its the best cossack game out there, 3 was a major downgrade
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the game does not included the latest 1.4 patch.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite games of all time. Remake this for Cossacks 4.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the best Napoleonic era game ever made. Can be a bit buggy as you'd expect for a 20 year old game, but that's about the only down side. Very typical risk-style turn based campaign, with battles at the end of each turn. The battles themselves are where the game shines, with engaging missions, regimental combat, lots of unit variety. 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never aging classic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Underrated classic. Looks less like a game and more like a 19th century oil painting! Probably the prettiest RTS ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cossack 2 Battle for Europe is a history buff’s sandbox ,chaotic, charming, and totally addictive. I played this around 2006 when it first came out. Its a expansion to Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars, it tosses in new nations (Ello Spain, Confederation of the Rhine, and the Grand Duchy of Warsaw) and lets you dive headfirst into tactical multiplayer mayhem. The game’s vibe? 19th-century strategy with a sprinkle of organized madness. Massive armies clash, muskets crack, and formations matter more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cossacks II is one of the best strategy games depicting the French revolutionary wars. I always seem to come back to this game after some time. I especially recommend the mode Battle for Europe which allows you to choose a faction to conquer Europe. There are only two little issues: The steam overlay doesn't work and it is better to disable it altogether and there should be a French translation for the extra immersion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spended, like, more than thousand hours in this game when I was younger. I occupied all Europe, playing in each country, twice. I love this game so much as I hate it. This game had a BIG point in my life as a gamer. This is a HISTORY for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most underrated games on steam
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game that many people have nostalgia for back to 2006 works incredibly well on modern systems like Win 10. I saw on the community that many people have problems with the game, but strangely enough it runs smoothly on my modern system without any problems which surprised me. the game even supports the high screen resolution like 1920x maybe I will be 1 of the 1000th who may be the lucky one that the game works. I recommend the game in a sale to add it to your library and try to play.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game still run super fine. Pretty much the only Cossacks game with optimal performance. Unfortunately maps are too few, can get repetitive after a while.Cossacks 2 has different gameplay than other titles in the series, take sometime to get used to but it probably the best yet. //Edit: there is an iso map pack installer you can find online, that add over 120+ maps to the game. //Edit: in EngineSettings.xml, you can edit game speed (the lower the faster) and other interesting stuff. Not sure…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The fact that I've been binge-playing a game that is as old as me says a lot about how much this game stands after 18-odd years...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can barely get the game to play on a Windows 11 system. The graphics fail, error messages that won't resolve, etc. Very annoying. It's a shame that GSC couldn't produce a patch or update. But they're a Ukrainian company so clearly bigger worries. Perhaps the new majority owner sees the business opportunity present for a patch/expansion pack release. I'd be first in line to purchase it. Until then, the game is pretty much unplayable on a modern rig in its current state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best way to learn about line infantry and the Napolenic era is to play this game. It's a good strategy game with campaign mode, map mode, and skirmishes that can keep players playing for long time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This should have been remade in Cossacks 3. This game has an amazing system and I prefer this much more than other Cossack titles. Capturing villages and strict lines really makes me feel like the Napoleonic era battles. Other Cossack titles don't have any villages on the map and also very simplistic auto generated maps that are empty, when you're mainly fighting in Europe that is quite populated, maps populated with villages are not only more likely but also matches up to historical battles…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very good offline and a satisfying rts. the graphics are unique to and fairly nostalgic. and to those only other two other people i played with online a year ago thanks for showing good hospitality.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even with its limitations it is an absolutely great game! Too bad they did not continue this approach to game design.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ENGLISH: This game is for me personally of "legendary" status. Played this way back in the day, I was okay in controlling the units and mechanics of the game, but never was an expert. I was keen on exploring and observing the game's world instead of decimating my AI opponent(s). This is one of the all-time great strategy games. Creating your own maps is also really fun. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LIETUVIŠKAI: Šis žaidimas man asmeniškai yra…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the best of all the cossacks series in terms of graphics. Looks like painted battles at times. Good game for its time and nothing else out there. Blitzkreig is good but this has vastly more soldiers. Hopefully the programmers come up with other games one day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For thoose wondering, the game works fine on a Linux PC with Proton 4.11.13 with very little RAM, so there's still ways to play the game today even if you do not have a PC that run Windows Vista. I do not think you can play the game with windows 11 though according to other reviews. As for my opinion of the game, this is an old classic that I really enjoyed as a kid and still enjoy now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bug on windows 10 and not work on win 11 another Ukrainian fail
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →thankl god i am not french
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still to this day one of the best games about Napoleonic wars, hands down. Moreover, highly addicting and makes you wanna replay campaign after campaign.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of best morale depiction in a strategy game. Besides, a great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review is mostly just something to be aware of before purchasing the game. Overall I recommend, but remember the date that this game was released in. General game play is so grand and enjoyable for me, but then again, I haven't spent much time in the RTS genre to compare this game to. However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before making a purchase: (1) This game can mess up your resolution and aspect ratio, as strangely enough, only the menu is formatted in a smaller…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cossacks II: Battle for Europe, developed by GSC Game World and published by GSC World Publishing, expands upon the foundation laid by Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars and delivers a strategy experience deeply rooted in early 19th-century military conflict. Set during the height of the Napoleonic era, the game shifts focus from broad economic empire-building toward battlefield realism and tactical authenticity. Instead of emphasizing sprawling base construction, it places its weight squarely on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok, quite a new player who has only played the tutorial, skirmishes and some missions from the campaign. ¡This game is fire! The morale gimmick, though hard to understand at first and annoying if you dont have a way to reorganise batallions, adds a lot of depth into the game and some really interesting techniques. It makes recoveries quite possible against enemy overwhelming by chipping off the morale or attacking at the right moment. It is a shame tho that there arent any kind of naval…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Napoleonic game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Total War: Napoleon and Age of Empires III Have a Child the Game. Also if you buy this I hope you are ready to troubleshoot because you have to do some tweaking to get it to work on modern hardware.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hope, thye will make remake
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Holds up very well for its age, when you get passed the moral system wich can seem a bit punishing at times ( walking in line for long distances can make your troops route). This game feels like a cross between ultimate general Gettusburg Napoleon total war and age of empires. If you are an RTS fan and love 18th century warfare this game is for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to play American Conquest back in the day and I always wanted this game. I came across it the other day and saw it was just a couple bucks. So I bought it. It works really well on my Omen X. This game is so addicting! I love it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RTS Classic, no doubt
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ price nostalgia - often bugs that make it crash ships that supposed to appear on missions do not ... alien designation for keyboard pieces, ofc unable to change
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →in the past 5 hours of gameplay i have had at least 15 crashes mid battle causing a need to restart, usually when you are just about to win the battle, i play from the nostalgia of playing when it first came out, if you didnt play it back then i wouldnt recommend it because the frequency of crashes absolutely ruins the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game just doesn't work on modern systems anymore. Even after spending over an hour researching and trying different fixes; compatibility modes, editing XML files, downloading patches, replacing files it remains unplayable. :(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very confusing gameplay! I love Cossacks 3 and Cossacks: Back to war but this one is different.! Annoying mechanics, horrendous population, and notoriously unintuitive! Worst Cossacks game I played. Not recommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EVERY TIME YOU GIVE AND ORDER THE UNITS FREAK OUT SPLIT IN HALF AND PATH LIKE THEY WERE PROGRAMMED BY A MORON.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very good game but would not recommend as it often wont start i haven't got it to start in 2 weeks as o posting this id recommend playing Cossacks back to war the older game as it is almost guaranteed to start seen as refunds are a thing you can try to get it to start so yeah
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best for its own age and still keeping up
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice, unique rts. Not much like Cossacks 1 and 3 though, so keep this in mind.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Strategy game of this era. It has mechanics that are suited for the battles from this era. Morale based squads, formations and combat advantage of holding a position. These mechanics make it unique from other RTS games, the battles are more strategic and slow paced. Not just making more troops and more robust economy. Using roads and capturing villages make it also more realistic and unique. Leveling up the squad (increasing morale) is satisfying and the loss of an elite squad is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i LIKE THE FACT THAT IT IS NOT TURN BASED
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is one of the most enjoyable Napoleonic games on steam, however its so full of crashes and barely starts that I would recommend for those seeking to purchase this game to either wait until an update comes in the future to fix the steam issues, or pass over this game. As the user submitted fixes online are almost all broken by now. Nvm I fixed it, its a good game now
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →quite exquisite
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best retro games with fantastic gameplay
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very interesting game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game, would love to see a remake. New features, fractions and content with same game style. Classic that never gets old, a nice game with decent graphics! Normal size game, unlike new, far worse games and far larger in terms of GB and disk requirements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cossacks 2: Definitive Edition https://steamcommunity.com/id/yuuuuki/recommended/115200/ ^I hate the base game for a reason One year has passed and they decided to release a standalone BugFix Edition for the base game More (and better campaigns) Fixes for crashes, various bugs fixing Balance changing 3 new nations (they are present in Global Mode so you can play it now) Spain Basically Poland Confederation of Nappie's buddies More music too But with same gameplay Overall - same sh_t but…
