positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The RTS of my childhood, so much nosralgia, so many memories. Excellent rts. Good graphics, enjoyable gameplay and intresting mechanics. Complicated to run on most recent OS, needs a few fixing steps. to launch easy : STEP 1 - edit DMCR.exe => properties>Compatibility>Windows XP pack 2/3>reduced color mode: 8 bit (256)>execute with 640*480 resolution. STEP 2 - In Game => slow mode, adjust speed to liking. Adjust resolution to screen. STEP 3 - ??? STEP 4 - PROFIT
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game from the past! Good nostalgia! For all of you having trouble with speed and lag on Windows, go to the file location for the game: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\American Conquest Then click on the Application DMCR.exe and click Properties. Select Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3) Also I clicked Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution and Disable fullscreen optimizations (But I'm not sure if these help) Once you've done that, go…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →American Conquest is an ambitious RTS that tries to capture the chaos of history, and to be fair, it succeeds… almost too well. While the game offers epic battles, expansive maps, and a surprising amount of strategic depth, there are a few things that can turn the experience from exhilarating to downright maddening. First off, why do wild animals have such a personal vendetta against my workers? I swear, the enemy's not even my biggest threat – it's the packs of Animals that seem determined…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game in its current state is unplayable. 20 years ago computers were slower and i think this entire game was programed with old technology in mind to the point were the gameplay is impossible nowadays. everything moves at 50 times the speed than when i used to play this game as a kid and there has been no fix to this. the people who made this game left it into the dust of time , so bugs that used to take hours to get to now happen in minutes, the slow speed option still has the Ai move at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game worked great for about a day or two. Then it says it can't find the resolution and quits. Now it doesn't run anymore. I'm not a tech person, so to start talking about tech stuff will be lost on me. I paid for the game, I don't want to have to recode it. I want to turn it on and play it!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DOES NOT WORK ON WINDOWS 10!!! Spent days trying different fixes that all failed. Numerous graphics issues and very buggy play. Sometime cursor scrolling stops working. Sometimes units become unresponsive, sometimes it just crashes. One more game in an ever growing list of Steam games that imply they work on Win 10 but simply don't. I just don't get why someone has not mounted a class action suit against Valve for such deceptive merchandising. Windows 10 with compatibility mode will run…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review of actual game to follow, but I recommend that you DO NOT buy this game if you're running Windows 10. It won't work. You'll try different configuration, get some playtime, and it will still mostly not work. You'll get tired of running a mission a dozen times, getting around crashes. That's where I am now. Most of the expansions and sequels to do this game do not run any better. As far as the actual gameplay: Some mechanics show their age, but still very fun. Lots of unique civilizations…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game growing up and was so happy to find it on steam, only to see that steam hasnt supported the game and made it compatible with a windows 8 laptop. It starts but the scrolling speed is maxed and when you go to the menu in game to fix it, a run error pops up and shuts the game down. It pisses me off.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →runs poorly on modern PCs unfortunately
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main problem with American Conquest is that the AI is completely incapable of interacting with game mechanics outside of scripts compelling it to take certain actions.
unlabelledView post →As a big fan of strategy games, I have to agree that the game is really well made, but I must mention that it’s not easy at all, even on normal mode. The historical concept is roughly 70 percent accurate, while the remaining 30 percent is fictional. It also features very realistic mechanics, such as army morale, which I really like, although it sometimes makes the game more complicated. Overall, the game itself is quite decent, and the historical aspect is top-notch. My only major complaint is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing this for years now - I only paid Steam the £1 for the convenience of getting it running on Windows 11 (with Windows XP service pack 2 compatibility on for better stability) instead of a Windows 2000 VM. It's a fairly stable and bug-free game - only a couple things come to mind, like often ships will refuse to fire upon specific buildings, but I never read the manual or patched it so maybe I'm missing something. If you like games where you can have thousands of units moving…

This real-time strategy game, set against the backdrop of the discovery and colonization of the Americas, delivers an immersive and challenging experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The attention to historical detail is commendable, with various factions representing the European powers and indigenous civilizations of the time. The campaign mode takes you on a journey through key events like the Mayflower…

DMCR and DMLN (both located in Steam Common File). Once set, Launch through steam, not through the application file. You'll be getting slaugheterd by indians before you know it. Enjoy!

Back when it first showed up around 2003; I was quite young and I didn't understand "strategy" games but somehow this game kept me playing it, if It was the campaign or fighting against the A.i and even on the editor mode. I never made maps, I just spawned Units and played for hours and hours on end Skip to a few years later(this year) I've came back to love this little game again after all this time. Playing the Campagin is all fun and it helps you get…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An underrated, old RTS that I enjoy. Similar to Age of Empires. It has some compatibility issues but they're easy to fix if you run the launcher in compatibility mode for windows 7 or XP.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's too bad this game is so obscure. I'd love to see another. Great strategy, thousands of troops at a time, realistic environments and fortification technques (but why aren't there walls? it really had potential there). I just wish the learning curve wasn't so steep and that the buildings had purpose in place of novelty as they sometimes do.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super underrated RTS from the devs of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Cossacks. Love the setting and the scale. If you're a fan of old school RTS games this one is a gem
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game as a child and I bought it to live my memory of an old game. it came in a package with Cossacks. I don't have many hours recorded on steam but I certainly enjoyed it back then. However on my computer the settings made the game run too fast.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly challenging game requires alot of patience and planning
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works perfectly on Win10. Pure nostalgia used to play it on my pentium 2 pc long time ago, good game with many thousand units on map.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game I played a lot as a kid. It makes no sense, is unfair, and the AI acts more like it's commanding a swarm of bees than 18th century musketeers, and that's what makes it so fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game don't work in Windows 10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →American Conquest, developed by GSC Game World and published by GSC World Publishing, is a large-scale historical real-time strategy game that transports players across more than three centuries of conflict in the Americas. Originally released in the early 2000s and later made available on digital platforms, the game stands as a classic example of early-2000s RTS design—ambitious in scope, mechanically demanding, and unapologetically complex. Covering the period from the arrival of European…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Youtube's suggestions for answers to replies is definitely distrust inducing: The game I played was American Conquest. It was a full release and Spain is not good for rushing. Neither of these suggested answers to the reply have any understanding of what is happening in the video nor in the game.
unlabelledView post →When it comes to strategy games, this is probably one of the best you can find. For its time the graphics and gameplay are amazing. The different civilizations you can play require different kinds of skill levels. Though it can sometimes feel like the game is a bit unbalanced. (Britons fight with guns and mounted musketeers, Aztecs fight with bows and spears). By having the opportunity to mass up a huge army of spearmen as a native American against a Briton that can only have a limited amount…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cossacks in America Right, so after GSC tried their best to please West/Europe with their very Slavic RTS game They tried to do that again but now to please even more Western groups Some things never change...but it kinda worked, people still love this game. Some like it because of nostalgia, others for kinda unique setting. And also gameplay Dated 2D with technical problems Playing this on modern systems is rough. You need to find some render patches or else the game can be laggy...or in…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most revolutionary games ever made, with a powerful soundtrack and a fantastic narrative. I'd pick american conquest over cossacks 3 any day. the graphics are chunky but that's to be expected from a 20 year old game the ai provides an extreme challenge as they blob out exponentially so there's something for all skill levels
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game crashes constantly and then it starts PLAYING AT VERY HIGH SPEED I CANT EVEN RESTORE IT TO DEFAULT SETTING BECAUSE THERE IS'NT ONE. WHEN I TRY TO PUT IT ON SLOWER GAME SPEED BECAUSE WHEN I TRY TO IT CRASHES. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →set during an interesting historical period, has great music
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It works for me fine, no crashes. The game itself is an old-school Cossacks-type RTS.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it keep crashing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are games that show how to conquer others and there are games that give you that answer, this game you have to work for it overtime like real history without the years and years and personally I really enjoy the challenge compared to age of empires this is a multi-day game to conquer everyone due to the time necessary to take over everything.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its like Cossacks but worse. The animals are absurdly overpowered, you have to create villagers then send them into the fort to become soldiers, the Native Americans have a trading post but the Europeans do not. SO much of this is just inconvenient. The only part I liked was the music.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old but interesting historical game reminding of Cossacks series. Has some issues on running with WIN10 but nothing that can't be fixed. Big battles with historical units focused on Northern and Southern America's colonization and conquest as the game name suggests. If you like history or want some nostalgic feeling if you played this before this game is for you, otherwise you could be dissapointed by some gameplay mechanics or issues with newer systems.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No information on how to play the game included with the game. At all. A simple tutorial scenario would be great. Maybe even a screen revealing what the keys do. Something. I guess that's what we have Google for.
