positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have you ever wanted to play a strategy game? If yes then this is perfect game for you. American Conquest series are one of the classic RTS games. I am huge fan of this series and I can recommend this game to anyone. Technical stuff: Well you can say that this is one old game. It is 2D, but do not be fooled. Graphics in this game are quite good and it is timeless. Due to its requirements it is quite easy load game and thanks to steam you can play it on newer systems with no glitches. There…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For some reason this game will only run at full speed and at full mouse sensitivity which makes it impossible to play. Every time I try to change this speed the game crashes. There are some serious bugs that need to get fixed. I have played "American Conquest: Divided Nation" which has similar gameplay to this one, but it never had these problems so I know this isn't supposed to happen. If this was fixed it would be nice becuase I currently can't play the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: Broken Game! This game has design/implementation defects that will render this unplayable for many gamers. The game isn't compatible out-of-the-box with Windows 8, 10 or Windows 11 and crashes immediately when launching any battle. The developer is aware of the problem but has chosen not to fix it. They do, however, have their hand out asking for your money for a product they know is broken. American Conquest: Fight Back is an ancient game from 2003. It's a whopping 21 years old…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, runs like at turbo speed and there is no way to slow it the ♥♥♥♥ down. Unless you can find a way to play this game on normal speed it is impossible to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After feeling the old times again, I thought i help the interested people with this review, a bit out. Alright let's begin with the basic informations about this game. American Conquest: Fight Back is the standalone add-on for the "American Conquest" the RTS succesor in year 2002. (Fight Back was published one year later ). The Ukrain developer "GSC Game World" (Who also developed the famous Cossacks games) set a great step towards the massive fights in RTS games, we currently play. With a…

Great to launch easy : STEP 1 - edit DMCR.exe => properties>Compatibility>Windows XP pack 2/3>reduced color mode: 8 bit (256)>execute with 640*480 resolution. STEP 2 - In Game => slow mode, adjust speed to liking. Adjust resolution to screen. STEP 3 - ??? STEP 4 - PROFIT
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I saw some bad reviews for many of the AC games being played on newer versions of Windows- meaning, the game was lambasted as unplayable, but I knew this was an old gem in the modern rough so I found a pathway to make this work. If on a newer version of Windows: Go to your OCS drive > select "Program Files (x86) > go to "Steam" > go to "Steam apps" > go to "Common" > go to "American Conquest: Fight Back" > scroll down and right click on "dmcr" > select "properties" > select "compatibility" >…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game. Played this a lot years back decided to pick it up again. Random map is probably the most fun (skirmish mode). + Nice graphics, nice sounds, great gameplay + Learning curve, your first play will likely result in defeat, even on easy + Loads of nations, 17 in total including 8 European nations + Realistic fighting: reload/aiming times - Unbalanced nations, for example Sioux are able to create strong cavalry units in no time in fast, large amounts - Sound missing, FIX: press…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game can be played by installing the program and cossacks patches from github.com/FunkyFr3sh/cnc-ddraw I love this game, there's no RTS quite like it apart from Cossacks
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If somebody has problems running this on windows 10 and getting the error of : 0xc0000022 Then here is what you have to do to solve it: 1.Search 2.Turn Windows features on or off 3.Enable the Legacy Components and DirectPlay After that it should work fine Game is 9/10 btw. My childhood basically. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 strategy game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is essentially Age of Empires 2 with slightly better aesthetics, more of a military feel, and a mild historical angle. Other than that, it is not much different. I don't think I would go out of my way to purchase this game, because it feels like a knock-off. It isn't poorly done from what little I played, again I just think taking Age of Empires 2, tweaking a few things and calling it something else isn't the way to go. Save your money and time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very much liked solo play but extremely buggy. Always crashed in scenarios with a lot of ships. Just stopped working altogether on my computer with Windows 11. After many years I think I am going to have to uninstall.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an old game. That is not my complaint. The creators have NEVER addressed the bug issues!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When you try to change game speed, it crashes. When you try to change resolution, it crashes. When you try to change player color, it crashes. When you try to change player faction, it crashes. When you try to change anything that looks like changeable, it crashes. It was good game indeed, but now; it is just garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main problem with American Conquest is that the AI is completely incapable of interacting with game mechanics outside of scripts compelling it to take certain actions.
unlabelledView post →The game has some great ideas. Its basically classic cossacks on steroids and comes with a lot of visual detail and a theme you rarely see explored in games these days. Apart from the barely known Theocracy (and to an extent AOE 2/3), this is the only game I remember allowing me to charge Aztec warriors into a spanish arquebus formation and spear the fckers back into the sea... good times. It builds on classic Cossacks (same engine, basically just nicer looking sprites and effects) but lifts…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had the original American conquest game back in the day, and I was really excited to get a chance to play it again. The game would open to menu, but would not actually run the game itself. I expected Steam to keep its games compatible with new computers.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite the imperfections, i love this game. Bought the cd when i was 7 and played countless hours; It was basically the Age of empires for me. Maybe the nostalgia is blinding but i find the game very fun to play: having battles of thousands of units it´s an experience that i´ve not seen replicated in other RTS games, and the reason i come back to this game. Granted; you are probably going to loose half of your army to path finding and map-related bugs, it´s unbalanced af and the scripts are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game starts but shuts down after choosing parameters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only works on fast mode, not a problem if you have incredible reflexes or are a bot. Trying to change it results in one of two outcomes: 1) nothing happens 2) the game crashes I would recommend if the bugs were fixed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really wish that divided nation would be added to steam
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are trying to decide between the older Cossacks games and American Conquest, AC:FB is the superior game. If you are having trouble playing this game at normal speed, you have to turn the game onto "slow mode" and set the slider JUST below the maximum. This will have the game run as it's supposed to. Leaving a negative review because you couldn't figure out how to set up an old game for a modern OS is stupid. Moving on, AC the only game GSC RTS aside from Cossacks 2/3 that doesn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →does NOT work in Windows 10. I would have liked to try this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great expansion / sequel to American Conquest and one of the very few games to involve the exploration of the New World as well as being historically accurate.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It doesn't work on Windows 7, despite Steam advertising it that it does. The company that published American Conquest has also long gone out of business, so don't expect any patches for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get me wrong I LOVE THIS GAME and I'd play it for hundreds of hours if it didn't have bugs and glitches that make it unplayable. The deal breaker for me is the bug that won't allow ships to fire for any apparent reason. I wish someone would step in a fix this and other known bugs /:
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had the same problem some of the other reviewers have had. I remembered enjoying this game back in the day, and it was cheap enough on steam that I thought I might as well try it out again. Unfortunately, the game would only run at an uncontrollably high speed, and when I tried to slow the game speed down in the settings menu, the whole thing just crashed. If steam has a mechanism for returning unplayable games, I haven't found it yet.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was the game between Cossacks I and II, with innovative gameplay mechanics unseen even today in RTS. The gameplay require skill and strategy, and thinking at every stage of the game. The new game engine allows massive armies and the potiental for endless replay value, this game is definitely worth the 5.99. Unfortunately the third expansion Divided nation is not avaliable yet, and I hope that it would be added soon to the bundle. It seems people dislike the game for it's consistency with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Classic. Doesn't age well
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Youtube's suggestions for answers to replies is definitely distrust inducing: The game I played was American Conquest. It was a full release and Spain is not good for rushing. Neither of these suggested answers to the reply have any understanding of what is happening in the video nor in the game.
unlabelledView post →American Conquest: Fight Back feels like an attempt to build on the foundation laid by the original American Conquest, but unfortunately, it falls short in many areas, especially in terms of difficulty and pacing. At first, the game is enjoyable. The concept and the mechanics are solid, drawing you in with the promise of large-scale historical battles and strategy. However, this enjoyment fades quickly as the difficulty is cranked up to frustrating levels. Even the campaign missions, which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game keeps crashing even if I uninstall and reinstall game . error note keeps occurring .
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rough around the edges and has quite a few bugs but still a really fun game. I put probably more than twice my displayed play time into it because I had the disc version long before I picked it up on steam. It DOES work on Windows 10 btw. Idk what the other reviewers are on about. I am playing the game on Windows 10.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing this game a long time ago, when I was a kid. I really enjoyed it back in those days and I still do now. When I was younger, I almost exclusively played random skirmish maps since I did not always fully understand the mission objectives in the campaigns. After some years I picked it up again and I decided to finally give the campaigns a try. After completing all the campaigns and some of the extra missions and battlefields, I feel the time has come to express my thouhts in a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremeley fun game that has alot of strategy put into it. Much more realistic than other rts games, however this game on its easiest setting is EXTREMELY difficult to win.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would be glad to be able to finish just one random map without a crash and a slight adjustment on this ridiculous speed. This review will change when the game will be patched to actually works correctly on steam. Nonetheless it's an excellent game...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cossacks In America - now literally Add-on for the base game, can be played without OG game. https://steamcommunity.com/id/yuuuuki/recommended/115210/ 5 new nations, most notable - Russians (Alaska events) New missions and campaigns that include: German expeditions Alaska Events (both sides) And I think there's more Indian missions?...I played that way too long ago... And thats basically it, same gameplay, more units, more music and so on The technical problems are still there so again, yes,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Working perfectly fine on Win10, even in fullscreen mode on my 3840x1080 Monitor. Pure nostalgia, and it is indeed the better Cossacks!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am trying to play it on Windows 10 but it constantly crashes :( The one and only time it managed to overpass the main menu was going unplayably fast without letting reducing the speed whereas all the other times that I tried to reduce the speed via options before beginning playing i was constantly kicked out when i was clicking to begin the game... :/ I hope the issues are gonna be fixed orelse I spent my money on buying garbage :/
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really old but fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are nothing more well-feeling then playing russia and being constantly harrassed by those tlingit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but then spawn troops and cossacks and at the end re-enact the battle of wounded knee, except with russians and cossacks against Haidas.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game to all who are looking for some old & real strategy games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just like Battle Realms, You need Peasants to train units. 8/10. Good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good RTS for it's type. - Several nations to play from. - Standalone expansion. It's a little improvement on the original - Good variety of missions and campaigns - Playthroughs are lengthy. - Graphics are outdated for this time but still play well. - Unit types matter, there is unbalancing which makes a huge difference. - Sheer amount of units you can use in play is great. - Battles and field vision will have you scrolling up and down and all around a little crazily. - Defences make a big…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is unplayable as is. It's impossible to change the scrolling in the options. Plus, there's no tutorial, you have to invest in yourself to understand how to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Idk if you played American Conquest, but that game have a lot of indigenous civilisations. Has sioux, aztecs, mayans, incans. And all of them have campaigns. If you can i would say to take a look at it. I dont know how accurate are the north american peoples stories portrayed tough
