Combat Wings
Developer City Interactive S.A.
It’s the 4th of June, 1942, and Japanese bombs are raining down on Midway – and you. This lethal assault is a prelude to an invasion whose success gives the enemy control over the Pacific. You are one of the American airmen who hold the outcome of this decisive battle in their hands. From the Steam store page

Note: If you want to watch the intro video, you can also move the folder away and open it with a media player. I used VLC player. ACTUAL REVIEW: If you like Dogfight 1942, this is the first game in the series. There are 21 missions all around the Battle of Midway era in WW2, so no P50…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played through the campaign of this game twice before owning it on Steam, hence my hours in game This game is 100% worth the price for WWII buffs and plane fans, don't expect a sim like the I-L2 series however, but if you just want a fast paced arcade game with a goofy American commander cheering you on and making lame one liners....this is the game for you. I always like seeing the Pacific Front in World War II games, the Midway story is one of my favourites to follow so this game was a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7th mission end trigger is broken, mission cannot be finished and it's not possible to progress further.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple arcade game, 1 tutorial mission, 21 missions in the campaign. 3 hours to complete. Campaign occurs in the Pacific and focus on the Battle of Midway. Easy to play with mouse, not as good as the sequels Combat Wings: Battle of Britain and Dogfight 1942 but you can buy it for the sake of completeness.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played Combat Wings Battle of Britain and it was quite a good solid game for under £2. This one though is the same but rubbish! The gunsight moves about in your cockpit all by itself as if trying to help you - but it just makes aiming impossible. In BoB i got quite good but this is just unplayable. Glad it cost virtually nothing...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →But it isn't just one fighting game. This unnecessary pushing of "fidelity" is a plague. Here. These are the system requirements for Ace Combat: Wings of Theve, which comes out in October. What do you MEAN that on the RECOMMENDED SPECS, that it's for Medium settings and MIGHT DROP FRAMES?!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →13 hours of perfection later, and my time with Ace Combat: Wings of Theve is over 🥲 This marks the 22nd game I've finished this year! It's beautiful, ambitious, and most importantly, fun. Please give it a chance; plus it has the best soundtrack in a game you'll hear all year.

unlabelledView post →Yeah it's not as refined as the Battle of Britain but still fun to play. Problem is there are a lot of situations where it seem unfair like protecting a paper like carrier against a horde of bombers where you can only shoot so many and the carrier die in like 2 hits from enemies. The game breaking bug is where I destroyed all ships and planes and still the mission won't finish. I had to stop playing. Very disappointing when I am very near to the end
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game when I was little. And finding this game on steam just made me relive my nostalgia in which I'm greatful for. Since old, it may feel coarse of unpolished, but I like it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game so old, that physics do not exist!!! Jokes aside (although this was not a joke), the game is enjoyable, despite a lot of issues. The classic "enemies only shoot you", spamming all over the screen is at times annoying, especially due to the friendly AI's uselessness. Most of the time, the are there to just create a nice scene, but in very rare occasions, they can assist your mission (still most enemies will follow you). Although the enemy damage is very low, so your plane takes quite a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Wings Positives: + The sea has good graphics + Ok sounds + When there is some sort of variation on the missions or environment + Freedom feel + Quite easy for beginners and arcade gamers + Different planes to fly and weapons to use + 20+ small missions (which often takes about 5-10 minutes each) + Can be quite fun for a while + Savegames + 3-4 hours of length in total Negatives: - If you are looking for realistic simulation, this is not it - Not a lot to see or do - Draw distance…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Wings pros: //fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on //good amount of action and special effects cons: //some difficult battles/objectives //sometimes too many enemies //some lack of directions/instructions //some escort and defend missions //good game Personal Suggested Purchase Price: $0.99 Or Less During Sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A simple arcade style flying game, you can just jump right into it, the training mode is literally learning about a couple of buttons to press, then endlessly flying around doing nothing. Once you play the campaign, the missions are always simple, very short and they repeat most of the missions aka " destroy the carrier, destroy the fighters". Very little variety, some of the missions you play as a gunner in a plane or on the ground which was alright, but again the objective was " destroy the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very simple arcade style flying game. Not very exciting. If you want to play for nostalgia go ahead but don't expect much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it so far (I´m at mission 7), missions are challenging enough. I´ve flown a fighter, flying boat, and manned an anti-aircraft gun on a carrier. (oh, and a gun on a bomber) You can change the view, FPS or TPS. And you have to keep sharp on the objective. If you start shooting only fighters instead of the bombers in a defensive mission, you will fail. The only thing I don´t like is the soundtrack. It´s always the same lame song over and over. In a genre (WWII) that´s full of epic music all…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is yet another ww2 arcade flight game by ci games first and foremost let me say that its impressive how these games are shorter then some actual air battles in history. The story here is on the level of Hiroshima at 8:16 am on august 6 1945 . Your a guy in a plane that has to shoot and bomb them evil Japanese while being egged on by a guy who sounds like he got the tryout tapes for this game and his radio DJ gig mixed up seriously whenever the guy opens his mouth i expect him to announce…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Interactive (City Interactive) masterpiece. Controls are awful, missions are repetitive, unimaginative and dull as dishwater. Buuuut, you must play it, it's the law.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uninspiring. Not entirely terrible but ugly, clunky, cheesy, simple and repetitive. Devoid of any satisfying sense of history or the planes and pilots that flew it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Wings is a World War II–themed aerial combat game developed and published by City Interactive S.A. that aims to deliver the thrill of classic dogfights through an accessible, action-focused design. Rather than positioning itself as a hardcore flight simulator, the game embraces a more arcade-oriented philosophy, prioritizing immediacy and spectacle over exhaustive realism. This approach makes Combat Wings easy to pick up and play, especially for players who are curious about historical…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's almost as bad as that Madcatz game, but at least it's under 2 dollars most of the time. Maybe worth it just to see b-17s dogfighting in the second mission lmao
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little "arcade" WW2 airplane shooter. took a little getting used to flying with mouse and keyboard (instead of flight stick or controller). Not the hardest game even on the hardest difficulty, but enjoyable if you want something to kill time and enjoy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Could not play the game. Control is mouse ONLY! I need a game for joystick also. Too bad. The game looked so good Is there any way of getting my money refunded??
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished Ace Combat: Wings of Theve. Just a top tier game. Incredible music, almost all fun missions, looks amazing, cast is pretty great. It's a top 5 pick of the year easily
unlabelledView post →Actually finished this game 4 times as a kid with no internet then in my late teens I probly threw the CD out to the monkeys in my backyard along with my parent's bollywood film cd collection. Now I think about it this is my first flight game before AC7 on my linux pc its a bit whacky resolution wise but playable it gets stale fast especially when you played other games b4 Would only recommend this to those who've never played video games b4, WW2 plane enthusiast, & toddlers
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Wings is a pretty old game but I actually had a lot of fun playing it. Even for its age the game runs really smooth and I didn't have any problems with crashes or anything like that. The game is basically about WW2 and you play as an American pilot fighting against the Japanese forces around the Battle of Midway. You fly different planes, fight other pilots, attack ships and do different objectives. It's nothing super complicated but that's what I liked about it. There are 21…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's my childhood man!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun little military combat flight game to jump in and blow ♥♥♥♥ up! Just be aware of the samey soundtrack that doesn't change any tracks mid mission as well as the goofy voice acting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still functions pretty well! (2025) The only downside is that you need to remove the intro cut scene by either moving or deleting the 'movies' folder in the game's files.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes on startup. You can fix this by deleting the movies folder, but it isn't acceptable to sell a game in this state, & the fact that it's such an easy fix, & the publisher hasn't simply removed the offending file themselves, actually makes it even less excusable. It's the exact same cinematic that's up on the steam store page anyway, so there is literally no reason to keep that folder in the game. There's also the problem that Warthunder does everything this game does better, & for free.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very simple, but quite fun game. It is possible to glitch out some missions, if you have not reached the objective marker and beat the following objective the game will not trigger its mission completion, so always go first to the location markers. 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →unplayable campaign
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Start the training mission, Sonic the hedgehog, my ship captain, address me - a new pilot - as SOLDIER and we proceed to ♥♥♥♥ up a zeke I'll definitely be coming back to this
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →♥♥♥♥ this god awful ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game the very first mission it has to be a "protect this thing against a literal swarm" i love combat wings battle of britain, but this one is a sin against everything videogame and air battles not worth my money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat Wings is an old game, so old, you have to do a couple things to make it run on a modern system, and it's got weird controls (mouse and keyboard only, no DirectInput!) but the graphics were pretty impressive for its time (mid 2000s) but the missions were... weird. Patch 1) Delete or rename the movie in the MOVIES subdirectory. Else the game will crash upon start. Patch 2) If you have multiple monitors, run MouseJail (download separately) as the Devs did not anticipate rise of multiple…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arcade flight sim, but fun for when you get sick of playing newer games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good arcade style game, especially for beginners in aircraft sims.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun quick game with arcade style dog fighting and decent graphics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game sometimes annoying but its fun to play when you know all of the controls
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good. playable. easy & fun. cheap. fayn ;)/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good arcade game. This game doesn't take too long to finish. There are problems with the mission scripting. For example, there is a mission where you need to destroy enemy aircraft carrier. You can use bombs and torpedoes. Mission pointer is above the aircraft carrier. But, if you arrive from the left or right, and you destroy other enemy ships like tankers and destroyers first, and you also manage to destroy the aircraft carrier before you reach the pointer, the pointer will disappear, but…
