60 of 182 · most liked firstFun at first, but after a few hours I started to grow bored. A few hours later I asked myself what I was doing since I was no longer enjoying it. The interface is inefficient, and the text is sometimes poorly (or not at all) translated. There is no depth, the AI is dumb - which only makes the lack of micro-management worse, and the game asks you to do the same thing over and over: Start on a small island, build up an economy, defeat the guardians. Maybe you get a few unlocks which add to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, I always considered myself as Funatics fan. Their Cultures series always had a special place in my heart, while ZanZarah was a pure magic (still feel sad about the fact that the Xbox version never happened). In other words, I was pretty excited about Valhalla Hills. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Valhalla Hills is yet another one of those Early Access games where developers lost their interest in working on the game just because it was already selling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Valhalla Hills is not a bad game, but it's absolutely far from memorable and i had a hard time in pushing past the 1-2 hours of playing it. In the end I reached the 2nd hour and stopped playing it. At the base it's a village building, plain and simple, without big highlights but fairly plesant. It's level-based, so to finish each level, you need to either achieve a solid military prowess to kick the guardians of the portal's sorry butts, or to corrupt them through a sacrifice. Neat idea, could…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First impressions This game is closer to a city builder than something strategic. You only control where you put down your buildings, you don't have any direct control over the vikings. In story mode you start with a small island. On the island is a portal, which can be opened when you fulfilled the requirements of that level. So it isn't a sandbox. The first levels go quite quickly. Later levels have consequences when opening the portals, such as unleashing enemies on your colony. In my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the only game I have ever played that starts to "get good" at the 30+ hours played mark. At 30+ hours (which probably equates to map 10+, you start to access new features (e.g. deadly creatures, and Dome Dwarf caves) and map design elements (e.g. scarcity of cleared ground), which enlivens the survivalistic/adaptative gameplay styles you will need to win. It is a terrible shame that this game is such a 'late bloomer' because most players will have already given up on the A.I. and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like an unfinished game. Buggy mess in general. Plays like an Early Access Game, the bugs I faced - even in the tutorial - were not OK, it feels like this hasn't been playtested at all. This was the last game of this company before they went bankrupt. This might tell you enough 3/10 potentially good settlers-like game but too buggy
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A different spin on the classic Settlers game. This uses very similar mechanics to the Settlers games; gathering resources, building crafting stations, setting up production chains and producing an army. The twist here is that you are set on an island and generally must ascend to the top to defeat the enemy and enter the portal to the next world. As a fan of Settlers I did like this game but my main gripe is that some of the achievements require ridiculous amounts of grind, ie playing the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Information / Review English Valhalla Hills is a building strategy game developed by Funatics Software. Gameplay / Story Valhalla Hills could actually come under the label "The Settlers", because the basic gameplay is very reminiscent of the first representatives of the building game by (Ubisoft) Blue Byte. Despite the Cultures past, Valhalla Hills clearly leans towards settlers, apart from the fact that residents have their own names and two needs (food and sleep). That's it with the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't liked it. Very limited set of tools to command your vikings, you can't control them and you just turn into passive observer when you don't build buildings. UI and camera angles are real disaster. Vikings are stupid, they will idle in group while staying next to storage basket and scattered resources. games from 2000 did it better tbh. I found myself suffering from boredom and clunky UI instead of enjoying my game, If you're going to give this game a chance make sure to watch let's play…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's really sad that this game isn't properly polished because it looks so very good. The biggest problems are some "simple" things that need improving. For example: you are highly encouraged to build roads between buildings but those roads don't work well with placing new buildings. If there's a road on a buildable area it will prevent you from building there, in fact, it will not even show up as a buildable area, so you have to destroy the road, segment by segment, with a very unintuitive UI…

Light & Reflection Effects on the other hand looking really nice and looking at a whole town at night gives a nice atmosphere. MUSIC - ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ The same three songs playing over and over again. The Songs aren't awful but they're not rememarble. STORY - ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Vikings lost their honour so you have to climb mountains to restore them to open…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun at first, but a few hours in the repetitiveness becomes obvious, and the UX faults become more and more insufferable. It reminds me a bit of The Settlers: you build a colony on a pretty limited space and you must connect all buildings for better efficiency. Only you do it again, and again, and again, on random maps. There is some feeling of progression at the beginning, as you unlock lots of stuff during your first 3-4 runs: unlocking contents serves as a tutorial: you start with a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →considering my playtime it is somewhat weird I am not recomending this game... BUT: a lot of that playtime is made up by setting up a map, having gold and beer running, going to bed or to work, and then finishing the map. so actual playtime is like 20 minutes out of 8 hours or something. still leaves a lot of playtime, but that is mostly cause I was hoping for *some* form of progression. like the more maps you conquer, the more starting materials you get. or the faster your vikings run. or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I also wanted to like this because it seems to be a fun interesting rts. But, as some have said, It is a chore to figure out and a chore to maintain, and I didn't find myself having much fun with it. I like the concept but the execution wasn't good. If you don't do some things perfectly( and it doesn't tell you what to do) your game will come to a halt as your vikings either don't use any tools or don't eat any food, and you will have no idea why they are doing nothing but dying. My…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Repetitive and boring. Feels like an unfinished game that developers got bored of making halfway through and released as it is. It could have been decent if it remained in development for much longer, but at the current state it's quite bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I guess this game will never be finished. It has bee 4 years since the "release", 3 DLCs and the main "story" content is still unfinished. Lots of buildings miss their description, especially enemy ones, the logistics is broken as hell, but whats worst is that you will be able to normally play only 4 or 5 first maps. After that the game is just too complicated to handle itself. You will stuck with completely missing AI and broken pathfinding. Dwarfs doing nothing, marked as "bored", standing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun for 2 hours until you realize the entire game is like a roguelike if you won every single time you played. You can honestly fist-fight your way out of the first two dozen islands without ever building a civilization of every time. Nothing carries over. The game gets progressively harder and you start off every time with some logs and stones. Enemies can spawn around the most BASIC of resources so fist-fighting ends up becoming the start of every new map far enough in. It gets really boring…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Valhalla Hills is in essence a contraption, designed by Daedra worshippers, posing as human game developers. Similar to the Reptilian Mark Zuckerberg and his sinister social media inventions, this game has an equally insidious purpose. While the graphics and art style may appear cuddly and adorable at a glance, when delving deep into the rabbit hole, it is quickly realised that this innocent aesthetic is merely a front, attempting to conceal their caverns of debauchery. This game is an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the first minutes of introduction a very nice picture catches your eye as well as a convenient, very simple and suspiciously reminiscent of a tablet interface. The gameplay is very simple and will remind many of the famous The Settlers series. But the first suspicions began precisely with the main goal of the game: from one map to another, you need to coax or eliminate the guards guarding the portal in order to move to the next and more difficult level. This cycle seems to be endless. To…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What could have been a new settlers game in spirit, ended up being a half baked entry not far away from a mobile game. All the randomly generated maps and endless mode content is worth little, if the fundamental game mechanics are flawed and / or lacking. The resource system suffers from quite a few flaws which negatively impact player experience and the difficulty curve is around the likes of "your settlement either dies horribly due to tough luck or you'll have zero issues at all to thrive…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PRO: If you love The Settlers (especially the first 4 games in the series), you’ll enjoy Valhalla Hills. I’ve spend many evenings ordering my vikings around. CON: It feels like the game doesn’t offer many new challenges after 30 maps, but playing has been and still is very fun. Still worth every penny. (in several reviews I’ve read about bugs, I haven’t had any troubles with this game)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is trash. There is essentially 0 tutorial and no functionality as to how to play any game at its base elements. You're left guessing to no avail. If a game can't tell you how to learn how to play it. it isn't worth playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a streamlined version of "The Settlers" which is not bad. But the game gets repetitive very fast. You play a round, open a portal and start at 0 again, again and again. Basically, it tries to obfuscate its lack of depth with stretching out over repetitions, which is not fun after a few hours.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pointlessly confusing and frustrating. The tutorial is useless and only appears AFTER you have already done the action, it doesn't explain where to find the new unlocked buildings. I was expecting something like the old game "Black & White" but you don't get to interact with the villagers at all from everything I tried and again, the tutorial doesn't explain it if you can.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s a charming, lighthearted game of resource gathering and production. Unfortunately, it’s only really fun when things work smoothly and easily. Figuring out mistakes and solving problems - which should be the core of a good strategy game - are built around solving pathfinding issues, and Valhalla Hills doesn’t do much to make those problems more palatable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm new in this game and not the motivatest strategy game player, like you have to be for CIV or settlers. But I was looking long time for a game like settlers without long taking missions. Also I don't want to take care about everything and nothing like it is in CIV. All this I found in this nice little game. You build your own little village and bring your vikings to the portal successfully. Map after map. Of course you always start at zero, but the benefit from this is, you don't have to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Valhalla Hills is a long and agonizing example of absolutely worthless AI. A copy of early Settlers games with a tiny portion of the feature set, the game simply feels unfinished. You play some kind of godly figure with the ability to command Vikings to erect buildings. That's all, the rest is controlled by moronic area mapping and gruesome internal decision trees. Controlling the Vikings into battle is an effort in patience, because you can't instruct them to do anything directly. Coordinating…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It only took 9 minutes of trying to get the game to run before I gave up trying. That is just the 9 minutes that steam recorded of my attempts. It was closer to 5 hours of reading forums and hunting for clues as to why the game would crash to desktop without reporting an error. When I sent a bug ticket to the developers, they closed the ticket 60 seconds later without reason. Do not waste your money on this game, no matter how cheap it gets on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →totally garbage-tier island clicker/simple RTS. you do the same build order, watch as the toons slowly build and hunt, click the portal, and repeat. this game is super slow and boring with nothing going on. i can guarantee you can find a better game to play. this is just a garbage bundle filler.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute but boring. It's nice to play while doing something else at the same time. Problem now is that the achievements stopped updating, which is the only thing that really kept me playing. I emailed Daedalic Support but they only respond to certain 'active' titles (whatever that means) and this game is not listed as one of them, so l'm not sure what happened or if I can get support for this. If this game is no longer supported, meaning no achievements, please let us know. Edit: Reinstalling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞: For me, this is an economic urban planning simulator combined with RTS. The game is somewhat similar to Settllers II, but not a clone, as I understand the authors are the same. The game has its own charm, its own atmosphere, its own gameplay and dynamics. At first, your task is to organize a stable, prosperous Viking settlement on a new island, then open a portal and go to the next one. We are building economically significant huts, houses for Vikings to live in. At…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →an interesting idea - poor implementation, Setlers 2 is much better than this product both in terms of implementation and plot **********
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game seemed lined up and ready for me to love it with its cute graphics and strategy/builder genre. As someone who never minds a grind and enjoys the simplicity of slowly building your own empire or gradually meeting a scenario's requirements, I thought only time could stand in my way of eventually being addicted. I was right. But instead of being faced with a learning curve, I was disappointed to find that it just lacked basic gameplay structure. I usually get annoyed at a tutorial for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have always wanted to get into The Settlers franchise. It's a strategy game that I just didn't have the patience for, and I prefer games where I can directly control my citizens (so traditional RTS games). Valhalla Hills follows The Settlers game mechanics (for obvious reasons); however, I feel games that utilize that mechanic, must do one thing right. AI villagers must be somewhat intelligent. Unfortunately, with Valhalla Hills, the villagers are completely broken. They will fight with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are not many games that would leave a bad taste on my lips, but this game is one of them but why? It doesn't really feel fulfilling. Simple not demanding tasks, painfully repetitive gameplay despite generating a new map every time. Watching my fighting settlers is so boring, a swarm of mobs touching each other around an enemy mob, an unreliable health bar on which you don't know when or if your mob will be cured by a healer. On the initial maps, even your unarmed settlers are a better…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this in 2016, found it to be an un-fun mess. Coming back to it 3 years later, and I can't see that it has improved at all. The game just doesn't do anything that you expect it to do. It's excruciatingly slow for one thing, even on full speed, it takes a day to chop down one piece of wood? The pathing is insanely broken, and it doesn't seem to recognise its own boundaries. The only way to arm your warriors is to put the camp down directly next to the tool maker, the whole 'carrier'…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rarely do not recommend a game, because I'm careful what I buy. But this game is ridiculous. I'm on map 10 or 11 and basically cannot beat it no matter what. No matter what you do, no matter how much you plan your village and how much you monitor your resources, at some point either everybody starts starving, or something gets stuck or skeletons/random creatures come and kill off everyone. Basically food is a huge problem because the system is so inbalanced - whatever you do, you need…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mechanics are more frustrating than fun, game moves incredibly slow. Very little action/reward for time consumed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Valhalla Hills is a charming and relaxing town management game where you guide a population of Vikings who believe the key to entering Valhalla is through their building prowess—not their battle skills. While the concept might sound a bit quirky, it actually works surprisingly well and gives the game a lighthearted tone. The gameplay itself is straightforward and accessible, making it a great choice for newcomers to city-building games. Your goal is to explore and manage small, randomly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A mediocre game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can hardly believe this game came from the creator of Settlers 2, sure it lifts many of the mechanics, but it somehow manages to be so much worse than a game from the early nineties.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm marking the review as Not Recommend but to be honest I would say my actual opinion is more neutral than negative. My overall description of the game would be "aggressively mediocre". It's like fast food, I can enjoy playing it for a while but at the end of the day it doesn't really feel fulfilling. On the surface there's a lot to like about this. The art style is good, the building and logistics system works well (for the most part) and the random terrain generation means a lot of mission…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When your tribe is starving to death because the only person actually producing food stoped working because he got hungry at some point and there is nothing you can do about it, you're either playing a eugenics simulator or a totally flawed game that shouldn't have left alpha.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is in all honesty, one of the most mid games I've ever played. I got this game on Humble Bundle some time ago, and has been on my back-log of games to play, and after putting a couple of hours into it, have come to the conclusion that it is just mid, through and through. On its face, its a Viking RTS. The Mechanics aren't great, and I found after playing through 6 levels that its just... a fairly boring game. If you don't already own the game, pass. Even if you do own the game...…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little indie game. Has pretty simple mechanics but it's fun to tackle bigger and bigger maps while unlocking new buildings. Definitely worth to buy on sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far its not too bad $7 price tag isn't bad even though I got it much cheaper than this. It's a casual little click game without much thought having to be played into it. Enjoyable time killer. I enjoy the theme too, if it wasn't this Viking esque I probably would pass
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably not even worth farming it for the steam cards at the $0.69 I paid for it. Controls are non existent and if you thought The Sims AI was retarded, you have another thing coming.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and simple game. Reminds me the good old Settlers times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game for chill up vibe
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a 3D rendered real time city building game ripping off games like Dwarf Fortress and Black and White but not as well. Guide cartoony Vikings to build settlements, fight enemies, find the path to the Bifrost and enter Valhalla! If only the actual gameplay came anywhere close to the promise of the concept. First to get the technical stuff out the way, while they say there's 4K support it's really some kind of crappy HD upscaling, everything looks fuzzy. Not acceptable for a PC game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very basic and there is pretty much no control over your units.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My wife and I really wanted to like this game, but there seems to be some mechanics that are broken. I can see the food stocks in my food production facilities, and the workers are right by them, but they complain of no food and end up dying of starvation when the food was literally 10 feet from where they were standing. There also seems to be a bit of an issue in how your military reacts to enemies, it can be hard to get them to defend your town properly. If these issues can be addressed, I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its Settlers 3, in a new shell, its a great way to idle through many hours of play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very reminiscent of the old Settlers games. Just without the road network traffic jams. I'm finding it quite addictive. If you like a good resource economy game don't be put off by the mixed reviews, once you get the hang of it you'll forget the rough edges. There's no campaign and not much hand-holding, and that's fine once you realise how extensive the unlock system is, providing steady progression and level variety. Works fine on a 21:9 monitor, and runs nicely under Linux…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy this game - went out of early access too soon, because the devs went bankrupt. It is fun for a few hours. Though soon after you got the hang of the basic principles the game just stops having content. Also as soon as it starts getting more complex, the game seems to break, or at least I have not understood how more complex logistics work, so I believe they just don't. To make it worse it is possible to end up in a deadlock of unproductive workers because you ran out of supplies, that…
