60 of 186 · most liked firstGrotesque Tactics, developed by an indie German studio by the name of Silent Dreams in a joint venture with Headup Games, is a turn-based strategy game in the same vein as Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, or any of the other hundreds of games with "Tactics" tacked on to the title. But let me clear the air here: unlike the aforementioned games, Grotesque Tactics is bad. Not "bad" as in Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing bad, but more like "all I wanted for Christmas was a Nintendo 3DS but all I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game. I really did. The over the top parody involving a self-loathing hero, a self-adoring tag-along who thinks he is a stereotypical babe magnet and is in fact a stereotypical babe magnet, and a plethora of stereotypical babes sounds like a real winner. Trouble is, this parody tries to push every aspect of the game and genre only to feel as if it is a parody of itself when jokes fall flat or are taken far enough to no longer be funny. Meanwhile the gameplay is hindered by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: +Cliché moments and references to movies and games. +A lot of humor and adult references (if you know what I mean, wink wink). +Tactical RPG (similarity to those of Final Fantasy Tactics, XCOM, Silent Storm, etc.). +Bright and colorful – rather detailed on some locations with the general environment. +The storyline fits the game and does so perfectly with the supported humor and complaining from your fellow party members (humorous complaining – if that makes any sense). +Custom Keybinds.…

unlabelledView post →I appreciate the effort, especially when there were almost no games of this type when this one came out, but Grotesque Tactics only manages to be entertaining for a couple of levels before the monotonous combat starts weighing it down. There's really no depth to it and nothing else about the game was interesting enough to prevent me from getting bored and just dropping it. There are other gams that do tactical combat much better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes is developed by Headup Games and Silent Dreams and while being published by Headup Games. The game really manages to tackle quite a few gaming tropes with sincere humor. Gameplay The first game in the Grotesque Tactics series hasn’t really started on the right foot. It’s an RPG/TBS hybrid alright. The gameplay mechanics were doing their job as intended but the first thing that strikes you is that for a relatively dialogue rich video game, it has…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx81HN2IV1k&list=UU7_-PLIhjsEBwIQXqKxmNpA Grotesque Tactics is a turn-based strategy parody, that pokes fun of other standard RPG games. The music is done very well, and keeps the pace and atmosphere of the game. Each character represents some form of a classic hero; be it the warrior, archer, or mage, but does an excellent job of augmenting the comedic aspects of each one. The controls and interface are sleek and well done, and I found the gear…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitelly not as bad/buggy/dump as i expect. I regret 1$ fo McPixel more than 5$ for this. For sure not for everyone, but if you have sense of german/sexist/"politically not correct" humour you can find it funny. +funny +special abilities of your heroes (with good chaining they are able kill each other even in battle "for sure you are going to win") -buggy (according to the forums im really fortunate that game crashed only once and 2-3 times i got stuck in combat mode) -unbalanced (final…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has plenty about it to love. I can tell that Silent Dreams really put a lot of care into developing this game. It is a humorous game for sure. The characters personalities are both realistic and mildly absurd at the same time. The art style may be somewhat cutesy in places but the backgrounds really set the apropriate moods for each stage. I thought that the artwork was truly beautiful. It may not be the most challenging game in the world but some parts were hard enough to take…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted so much to like this game, especially considering the current drought of turn-based tactical RPGs but ultimately, its flaws outweigh any real enjoyment. The humour is... bizarre, and divisive -- you'll love it or hate it. The paper-thin and linear plot ambles around like it doesn't know what to do, and the combat never feels truly satisfying. If you're a fan of tactical RPGs, you're better off looking elsewhere.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had fun. Good job. Two thumbs up. I laugh, I cried I kissed three bucks goodbye.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended for fans of tactics, RPGs, and some satirical humor. His Semidivine Humble Self encourages you to give it a try! Other similar games I could also recommend include Children of Zodiarcs, Druidstone, God Wars, Divinity Original Sin, and D&D Tactics. +Turn-based tactics +Humor +Exploration/adventure +Variety of characters, skills, specials +Zones are a good size +Enemies can battle each other +Key rebinding -Dialogue is not voiced -Dated/blurry visuals -Movement squares are not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grotesque Tactics is a story driven, satirical RPG with a strategic combat system. A party of 10 anti-heroes are fighting in a grotesque world that combines the features and clichés of Western and Asian Strategy RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics, Heroes of Might & Magic and Fire Emblem. Grotesque Tactics weaves a humorous storyline and plenty of amusing dialogue, poking fun at some of the most successful RPGs, such as Oblivion, Gothic and Lord of the Rings. To protect the kingdom from the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many other reviews have talked about the humor and technical issues you will experience with this game. Based on those reviews you've either decided this game interests you or it doesn't. For anyone still considering Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes, let my tell you why I would recommend it. What I appreciate about this game is it's casual nature. Sure, I like games that provide a challenge, but every now and then I want something a bit more simple and less challenging, for example,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if u like tactical rpgs this is a great game. cant really find the right words to express how great this game is other then u need to play it to understand. there is only so many weapons and armour in the game but it is enough to satisfy as u arent playing for hordes of items. and yes there is a few bugs but they dont break the game and only 1 is a crashbug towards end of the game by an optinal golem which if beat quick enough and move away from the spot it wont crash u and u will know the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game through twice. I liked the humor, it's definitely a casual game. People that are looking for a more complex game are going to find it lacking all sorts of depth. The camera shifts that follow the party are annoying, but not detrimental. I thought that the gameplay system that some people complain about was also a parody in and of itself. Concerning the emo phases, you just have to plan ahead, knowing at some point, looking at their meters, that they are going…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What can i say about this game? It tries to be a comedy, and it's actually very funny. The history is very simple, the graphics aren't good, the battle system can be a little confusing, it has some bugs and crash from time to time. So, why am i recommending this game? Even with it's problems, this game is very fun to play. The characters are unique, different personalities, some based on stereotypes. There are jokes and references all around this game, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Lord of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Strange but appealing turned based strategy game (think disciples 3 battle system) with a story happening around the encounters. Weird and mostly funny sense of humor. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I understand that this is intended to be a satire of traditional RPG memes, but satire is funny when it's subtle and witty, not when it's crammed down your throat at every opportunity. The game just tries too hard. Combine that with an ultra-linear plot and bland gameplay and you get a game that is just not worth playing. There are so many good games on Steam - don't waste your time on this trash.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks grotesque and it plays even more hideously than that. Quite evil indeed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first, I was enjoying this game's ridiculousness. The plot is silly, the dialogue is contorted and the atmosphere is pretty absurd. I think this is all by design. However, after about 6 or 7 hours (over several days) of this, the game really started to wear on me and I'm having trouble finishing it. Each encounter has just become more of the same repetitive grind (which the characters even joke about) and I no longer care how the story ends ... I imagine the good guys win. This game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall Iliked this game. It was the first game with such unique approach to RPG/tactical games. sometimes it was tiresome visiting the same locations in later parts of the game, but it wasn't that bad :) Unique abilities of our party companions forced one to stay on ones toes and think about their placement on the battlefield.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny Indie game. If you liked The Bard's Tale give this one a try. If you're only into serious games this is not for you. It's pretty casual and the technical basis is not the best but I could play through withou any severe bugs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's been a pretty acceptable ride so far for $2.50, but you can tell the quality isn't going to blow you away. some jokes run on for a bit too long as well, but again for $2.50 i do not regret it. how on earth did they manage to get a semi decent texture artist and a semi deent modeler, but a total ♥♥♥♥ 2d artist to draw the character profile images? they are totally out of style with the rest of the game. why not just use high quality bust portraits of the character models?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried playing it in 2021 and now it crashes every 5 min on W10.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It lacks complexity and depth, and it lacks content. There's really no character development and areas are used several times for different scenarios. That being the case, it's still quite entertaining and very much worth the small price I paid for it. I'm definitely looking forward to more from these develpoers. I recommend it to anyone who can just enjoy a fun little game without expecting too much.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hillarious Story, and a pretty fun gameplay... The graphics are not bad, but i thing the weird and funny story will keep you on the road till the end of the game... Give it a try!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, i personally loved this game. Ok, i know it's very simple not like the other rpg games, but the main power of this, is the humor
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is greatly underrated for a reason or another, while I do admit that the graphics are rather bad compared to some other games out there but really you do have to understand that this game is sold cheaply on Steam so you shouldn’t expect the graphics and functionality to be on the same level as Witcher or Final Fantasy. Also you have to keep in mind that this game is meant to be parody of RPG and JRPG genre which it does quite well and even if there is few bugs it was playable and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It doesn't have the greatest story in the world but that's kind of the point. Its meant to be a parody on the Fantasy RPG setting using a retro Tactics style gameplay. It lacks the depth of anything like Final Fantasy tactics. All the armor and weapons you come across will be direct upgrades. And the various items you get were mostly unnessessary. Every character on your team is a double edged sword. Each is a timebomb. Once a specific requirement is filled for each of them they go off and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, it is a roleplaying game. Yes, it has written over it that it's more an game irony... Thus you meet cosplayers ingame, and other weird people like a priestess, that didn't even know what her job is (healing people) and others. You start as a failed hero, that was beaten up by some mushrooms and you are on the brink of suicide because you are a total sucky warrior, that would happen to harm yourself more than your adversaries. Ok, you fumbled and fell, but did that really matter? The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun strategy game. It's nowhere near as deep as most games in the genre, but it's passable in my opinion. If you don't like simple strategy games, then you should probably stay away. Also stay away if you don't like over the top parody humor.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this was a very good game, simple, silly and fun. a little cheesey at times but a very fun game, a little short though. 3.5 stars its worth grabbing if on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun game, worth reading all the dialog, and finding the hidden jokes, i beat it in about 10-11 hours, missed only 1 mushroom on my first time threw, Id Recommend it, i can not wait to start Dungeons & Donuts tomorrow, Save often, run threw on Easy your first time, Protect or Maidens ! Most my questions where answered when i went to options in game and looked at Controls, the camera rotates and other useful controls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game... is a strange one. I am a major fan of JRPG's. This game makes fun of them in a good way. The combat is ok however, and that is it's one weakness imo. However, I understand that is my fault as a gamer. I am a completionist and wish to be as strong as possible, so I grind forever each battle since the story is linear and you can't go back to train/grind. I find the story funny and the characters add to this greatly, so I enjoy them both, and I can make it through the battles, but I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought it was pretty fun. The camera is very frustrating at times... seems to have a mind of its own even... which can make it difficult to control your characters. But other than that I didnt really have any problems.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unless this is only like $3, don't bother. Not a super fun game. Very stale progression, very luck-based (rng) style of combat, very short game overall. Not really an interesting story either. Awkward controls, awkward camera angles.. I was very disappointed, is what I'm getting at.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grotesque Tactics is a mixed bag, at best. The game mechanics aren't too terrible, but the writing (even for a satirical RPG) is abysmal. It also reuses almost every single map half a dozen times and features very little content. The RPG system is merely rudimentary, the turn-based combat mechanics are very ... simplistic. Graphically, it has not only aged terribly, even when it released it looked quite dated. By far not as witty as the developers would have liked it to be. Full of grammatical…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed the game, it had some funny bits. tho as a suggestion to those that might get this game,Save often I forgot to save after two hours and the game glitched me off the map and auto saved so I has the options of playing 2 hours of the game again or move onto another game. I'll look forward to going back and playing it again someday.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a lotta fun in a small package, well worth the money spent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly good RPG for something so amusing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, the game is old, yes the humor will not go to everyone, yes it is straightforward and takes about 12 hours. But personally I really liked it. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a tactical RPG with fairly simple mechanics. It may be a budget game, but it has good writing and doesn't take itself too seriously. 10 hours or so of total content.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little strategy game, not too hard on Normal. Cute story, very entertaining.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good blend of tower defence and RPG. Fun to play co-op too.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't expect to have a good time with this game! +Plenty of characters and skills +Around 9-10 hours of gameplay +Easy to learn -Game is a bit buggy and sometimes you'll need to reload your latest save -Graphics are bad. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In this world there are good games, there are bad games (a lo-o-o-ot of bad games...) and those games that are neither good, nor bad. And Grotesque Tactics? It's of the last ones. Long story short – it's a pretty basic parody-oriented turn-based RPG. It isn't especially well-made, it isn't especially comfortable, the jokes are not that funny (even though I've seen way worse, especially in cheap games from Germany), it doesn't look that good, there's just a few small maps and the entire game is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All I have to say is, WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS!? Some anime-porn fetish loving table-top RPG game!? The game controls are f*cking stupid, the story is r*tarded, and the gameplay/EVERYTHING is sucks a**! 0/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad game really. It's always very cheap on sale and been bundled many times, and is worth that "price".
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grotesque Tactics is a parody light hearted RPG with a turnbased combat system. There are lot of jokes in the game about rpgs and clichees. The combat isn't so complicated but has enough depths with several skills. Grotesque remind me of Final Fantasy Tactics but it's more simple and faster. It's better for casual gamers and rpg fans like me , not for hardcore tactic fans. You can have up to 8 party members later I think , so you have some huge battles later. The game has a few quests, cute…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far this game has proved to be a fun experience even with the simplistic style. The game is pretty funny at times and even smartly gives refences to other RPG style games. One I noticed was Shining Force. However sometimes the game is a little too predictable when it comes to the jokes, it's very cliche' and sometimes tries a little too hard. Now onto the gameplay, I have to say I quite like the style of gameplay however I sometimes find myself getting mad at the flow of the movement, there…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The premise seems simple, poking fun at tired RPG/fantasy tropes, but in practice this game feels like a checklist of how NOT to make a game. Steam says I played this for ~5 hours, my only playthrough clocks at ~1.5 h. The extras are repeating parts of the game because of random crashes, horrible slowdowns (my computer meets the requirements comfortably and yet the game slows down to 3-5 FPS (!) in explore mode, even with lowest video settings. The camera is sometimes non-responsive and often…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its funny but unplayable. You can't see what is going on half the time - even when the view isn't obstructed by an unnecessary set piece there's generally insufficient contrast between the background and the foreground. Just look at the screenshots included by the developers, they're all blurry looking. And one of then is super blurry. And in another one every single thing on the entire screen (except for the HUD) is either orange or yellow. On top of that, the controls are badly designed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's cheap, it's turn based, story driven, hilarious.....an excellent example of parody. It takes no more than 10 hours to beat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is stupid. I think the saving grace is supposed to be the dialogue, but it's only funny 1/20 lines. I laughed at a few parts, but the showing lack of intellgence made my insides shrivel. maybe the translation is at fault.... maybe, but poorly veiled fantasy references, reddit tier "video game logic" jokes, half-naked women, and/or unserving racial stereotypes aren't funny. every character is one-dimensional. not surprsing for a comedy. but to call it story focus is a sham. with the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game should be named: Grotesque Tactics: Evil camera. Camera is true villain of this game. What else? Don't want to waste yourtime so I will just tell you how launcher works. It tries to connect with some broken url and displays 71 "scrip error" messages in a row before you can click start game button. That part is probably more entertaining than the game itself. Avoid.
