60 of 169 · most liked firstIt's not *bad* but it's also not good enough to recommend, especially with so many significantly better story-driven games available (Kentucky Route Zero, 199X, To The Moon, and the Moon Sliver are the ones that come immediately to mind). The story is ultimately unsatisfying, as it leaves far too much left open to speculation and interpretation. A little ambiguity is nice, but this much just feels empty. Plus, as others have mentioned, having to hold the "d" key down is unnecessary and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm so damn tired of people complaining about paying for art. You don't like it? fine, it's up for debate, but you're really going to complain that 7 measly bucks is too much? and you want multiple endings? more "gameplay"? seriously? this is a damn fine "game" but the word "game" is no longer what it once was. we've moved past it. you don't need points, or kills, or combos, or new game+ or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "winning". it's interactive art, if you don't like the art then fine, but stop saying it's not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a very interesting interactive novel in my opinion. It handled the topic at hand with surprising delicacy. The main game is basically Kelly, the protagonist, basically visiting her grandfathers home in the country when the weather turns bad, so she heads home. She and her mom start talking on the phone, and in the midst of the conversation, it is revealed that one or more tornadoes are going to be touching down in the area. So, Kelly must try to get to the safety of home. All the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home is an interactive short story of sorts. The main story, as far as I can see, has but one ending no matter which dialogue choices you make: the "interactivity" besides picking your words is holding down a button to drive...while you read. The graphics were simplistic and didn't work that well in terms of the main story. The epilogue was done quite a bit better: it had multiple endings - some bad that end it early, one "good" ending, all equally bleak - and the graphics…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game only took me about an hour to get through (epilogue included)...it could be that I'm a fast reader. The driving aspect of the game is not as complicated as it sounds...you simply hold in D to keep the story going. You don't have to worry about dodging traffic or staying on the road. Frankly it got annoying after a while. While the story was indeed well done, I don't think that the game warrants a $7 price tag, especially since replayability is practically nil. I'd give this a go…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not going to sugarcoat it, I found the game to be utterly boring. It's basically an interactive fiction with a mundane slice of life story. The gameplay is all about holding the right arrow and picking whichever choices you like. Then add insult to injury, if you want all the achievements you have to tediously view all the photographs, flick through all the pages from 6 books, replay epilogue at least twice and listen to all the songs in their entirety.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game, althought it's more of a narrative experience then game, is fantastic! I enjoyed it, along with Extras that go beautifully with the story. Fantastic soundtrack, nice art design, I can just recommend it. Graphics: ★★★★★ Sound: ★★★★★ Gameplay: ★★★★☆ Music: ★★★★★ Overall: ★★★★★
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is part one of my launch-day play through. (Part 2 is available on my same Youtube channel if you want to spoil it) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCV9hrCu2G8 I have several complaints about this game.. (Be aware that reading this review does have minor spoilers) First off, understand that even with the initial 10% discount, $7 USD is too much money for this kind of game. Secondly, a big complaint is that I honestly think the choices you make likely matter not in the end as it seems…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Three Fourths of music listening" 3/4 Home is an innovative text-adventure with very simplified b/w graphics. You are a daughter on a longride by car to Minnesota and phoned your Mom. The whole journey you stay in a neverending dialog between her and rest of family. The landscape is changing in the background until the phone connection breaks shortly before the end in a snow blizzard. Now you are waiting for the right bus to take the last leap to home (epilogue). The conversation with your Mom…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have unique experience while I've playing this game. It has experimental design, minimalist, surreal, have a rich story and very good soundtrack with ambient soundscape within the game. If you like post-rock & experimental music genre, soundtrack of this game can hit you. Eargasm is matter of time after that. Well, this game is a more story telling than gameplay itself. In main game, the story tell by conversation between Kelly and her family by phone, while she's driving a car in the middle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6.0/10 – Visual Novel with Intriguing Graphics and Unique Twist! This game offers a nice twist to the visual novel genre. The story didn't wow me but the gameplay and graphics compelled me enough to enjoy it! You play as Kelly, a girl moving back home to fulfil family obligations. The entire game takes place on the road traversing through 20 miles of storm ridden farmland on the phone. Smart! You must drive Kelly down the road to trigger the story which takes place via phone conversation with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fantastic narrative experience condensed within an hour. The story tackles on themes of parental obligation, disability, and depression and crafts them into a very real, believable experience. The ambiguity of the story overall makes it very relatable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home is a story based game. It's storming, and you are driving your car through the Nebraska landscape on the way home while having a conversation on the cell phone w/ your parents and brother (conversation in text on the screen). As you drive through the storm you get to know the family's problems and perhaps identify w/ a young adult who's trying to strike out in life for the first time. The Extended Edition added some new elements to the game, such as the epilogue, an extra…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this thing is boring and ♥♥♥♥ as hell, and i typically love 'walking simulator' or narrative-driven games not this tho. this ♥♥♥♥.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The wind beat down on her car as the wet road dared to make her rushed driving a dangerous affair. She was Three Fourths Home, talking hurriedly to her mom on the phone - yet it all seemed so far way. She had been gone for a long time. Now that she was back, she wasn't so sure she should be. Or was she? Full Review TL;DR at bottom! Story: It can develop into whatever you wish it to, the different thinks you can say change other people's answers drastically. Graphics: The well done…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing this game I fell in love with the characters; the story; the storytelling. Quite simply this is much more about the story than the game. And to me that's not such a bad thing. The characters are believable, I suppose in part because you get to decide how Kelly should respond and in turn guiding how the other characters repsond. I found myself at times telling her to say what I would say and at other times playing along with the narrative - saying what I think would bring more of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition isn’t a game, or a sim, or a visual novel. It isn’t any of the things usually required for an item to be offered by Steam. But it is (in my opinion) two things less commonly found on Steam: a totally inclusive artistic experience, and a detailed work by a writer bursting to express themselves through an emotional outlet involving the player. It’s an account of a young woman, Kelly, early 20s, talking on the phone to her parents and younger brother, Ben, as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review in English/Spanish Análisis en Inglés y Español: English: It was a good experimental piece but not exactly game material. It doesn’t pan out too well as the gameplay part consisted entirely on pressing a button without ever letting it go. Near the end I was more annoyed than anything. Story was ok. Español: Pieza experimental que busca encontrar nuevas formas de narrar historias pero no funciona muy bien que digamos, la jugabilidad se resume enteramente en presionar un botón…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Two short stories (main & epilogue) and bunch of extras comprise this "game." There really isn't much to discuss beyond a story that just barely manages to connect you with its characters. It's hard to recommend this one. If I could leave "neutral" feedback I would. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Evocative, emotional visual novel with a twist. Get this if you enjoy excellent writing and storytelling.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this extended edition story during the summer sale, and I feel like I should put emphasis on the fact that this is a story. The only game mechanic it has is holding down the button to drive forward. Otherwise you're just choosing dialogue options but those options only effect the mood of the story, which will change how you feel about the ending. I chose the "nice" options, and I ended up feeling ambivalent about the ending. I didn't have much of a connection to Kelly or her family,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Experimental interactive fiction. I'm recommending and reviewing this game because it doesn't deserve the "mixed" status it currently has. Come into this expecting an experience more like "Kentucky Route Zero-lite." If you do, it's worth the entrace fee. We are inventing and defining this medium as we go and I'm enjoying each step along the way. Three Fourths Home being one of them. This is not a huge powerhouse of narrative exposition, nor is it a "videogame" in the classic sense. Steer clear…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible story with poor game play dont pay for this game since theres alot of free games with more stuff to do.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A story needs not just a problem but a climax and an ending as well. The words I read had a problem all right, but nothing of the other 2. So unfortunatly, I did not get a story, but a description. One that describes this lady's issues as well as her family. But that is it, sure you can change said description based on the choices you make, but who cares? Not interesting and not reccommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home is a pretty unique visual novel. It revolves around a woman who is having a phone conservation with their family while driving home during a tornado warning. You have to use the arrow key to drive and the conservation stops when you stop driving so you have to keep moving as well as choosing responses. You start to get a sense of why she was out wondering around old family property and what issues the family is going through. The dialogue is some of the best I have seen in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home is a hard game to review. It's one of those games that make you wish Steam had a middle button between positive and negative. It's a simple story where you play as a girl named Kelly who gets caught up in a storm. While driving home in the storm, she talks to her mother and the rest of her family on the phone. The gameplay is basically holding down the D button to drive, and clicking on dialogue options. That's really it. The entire game is driving and talking. If that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't really know what to say about this game. It's weird. I want to make clear that this game is ONLY a conversation. That's really all it is. You don't go to different places like a house or a tower. It's only a conversation. The conversation just gets boring after a while. There's no voice acting, so that also prevents from getting more into the story. The story is slightly interesting, but not nearly interesting enough to make up for the fact there's nothing to listen to and nothing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game disparages the name of Jesus Christ. If your narrative requires you to take the Lord's name in vain twice within the first minute of game-play, then I don't want to play your game. Maybe others can enjoy this, but I can't.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very little action with few tasks. Basic hold arrow and tap space to advance storyline or use controller buttons. Deep thunderstorm great with headphones or good desk speakers with bass sound. OK graphic novel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition is a character study. You learn about Kelly, her family, and the trials that have led to this place and time. Kelly is trying to get in home in the middle of a summer storm in Nebraska. While driving she is talking to first her mother and then the other members of her family. The interactive comes in the form of selecting how Kelly responds during the conversation. If you are looking for a game with a lot of interactivity, this game is not for you. But I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a good story about a girl and her family. I really enjoyed it. It's simple to play. D is to drive, the arrow keys are to make choices, and the space bar is basically your enter button. The graphics are simple, black. gray, and while, yet beautifully done. If you enjoy a short visual novel, this is for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like short, story based indie games, and I thought I would like this, but I was wrong. This game is literally just a text conversation that you click through and the story is not that interesting. You are given different dialogue choices, but it feels like it doesn't really matter what you pick and I had no desire to go back and try different dialogue options after I finished the game. The game literally makes you hold a button down to progress through the entire game. If you let go of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm writing this review more based on access for those with limited vision. This game is nearly unplayable as is with its glaring white background and faint gray dialog. Then, as if the faint gray text wasn't bad enough, it slowly faded in and out, making it a headache-inducing experience against the stark white. Yes, I finally discovered you can make the font a tiny bit bolder in the settings. The problem is, you can't see there's a dialog tree to choose from underneath the conversations.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I launched the game for the first time I had no idea what to expect from it. I was just curious. I was surprised by how atmospheric this game is. Sure, it's short but in this short time you can learn about characters and their story. Maybe not entirely; there're some things to wonder about. Which is another charm for this game. If you have the patience and you're willing to listen them out, then you have nothing to lose. You might even get attached to some characters, that's how real they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This games is tagged as adventure game, meanwhile it's a text-based game. The only think you do is pressing d and space to scroll the text. Your choices trigger another text. For someone who like reading. I prefer books. For me it's a waste of time, regardless the cards and achievements that can be got.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actually first heard about this game by stumbling upon the devs Kickstarter for their second game, To Azimuth. I backed it just for the game because it looked interesting, but it didn't make it. After playing this game, it's a bigger shame that it failed. Three Fourths Homes lies more on the interactive fiction side of the adventure game spectrum so if you need to shoot things or stick a rubber duck onto a fishing pole than this isn't for you. Interactive fiction/narrative games live and die…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's barely a game. I've never written a review for a game before, but I just have to express my dissapointment in Three Fourths Home. I've spent time on silly things in my life, but playing this game might have been the most boring 40 minutes I've ever experienced. To be honest, I'd rather spend hours waiting for the bus in a cold weather than playing this game again. You press space over and over again. The story in the game makes sense, but there's nothing more to it. There is just nothing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the MK ULTRA torture elements
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its no game, its a visual novel aka button-holding simulator. Until i realized that i pressed space and always choose the first choice by accident. Better get yourself some Choose-your-own-adventure-books.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So this is a game about driving home. Sadly not for Christmas. No Chris Rea to be found - I even checked the trunk (the stench came from a dead skunk, not a decomposing singer-songwriter). So to play this "game" you have to find something heavy and place it on your "d" key (which will make the car drive). And then you talk to your mother, father and brother on the phone by selecting various answers to some of the most trivial questions you can imagine about being a rural family living…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition is a short, emotional visual novel about family and homecoming, atmospheric, thought-provoking, and more of a story than a traditional game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home is a short story where the main role is taken by Kelly and we get to see her driviving a car back to parents’ home in Nebraska. Said drive is "a little" eventful given the fact it's taking place during a storm. While driving Kelly receives a call from her mother and thus their conversation begins with father and younger brother jumping on the line, too. You get to make a few choices, which allow the conversation to go in different directions, so you can play through the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well that's half an hour of my life I'll never get back! I didn't really get the point of this, did any of your choices in the dialogue make any difference to the ending? I'm honestly a bit perplexed...Looked monotonous and the dialogue was a bit boring. not much else to say.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ARE THEY ALL RETARDED? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they are! #1$ no offence intended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't play this game expecting it to have enjoyable gameplay. It is an interactive visual novel, where you have to hold the same button for most of the game. If you can get past that however, it tells the story really well, even if it doesn't give much closure. You kind of tell the story, so just know that when it gives you a choice where it feels like it shouldn't, the game is actually giving you the choice of telling the story. I finished the game feeling very confused, but interested in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It starts off good. Something different, very unique. Interesting. I didnt connect too much with the characters but thats okay. I was enjoying the ride (literally: the game is your drive home). But then I reached the halfway point. I will not spoil anything but something is injected into the conversation and it feels extremely unnatural. It broke the immersion for me. What was injected wasnt bad. It was kind of interesting. It just did not fit with the game, or what was happening on screen,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I suppose my opinion isn't a popular one in regards to Three-Fourths Home but I didn't really enjoy the game. To begin, I loved the art style, sound effects, music and subtly that the game brought when I first booted it up and started playing. I liked the idea of exploring the characters life and background through dialogue and the minimilistic approach the developer took. However, the game felt like reading someones short-story fiction they submitted to a group critique for an undergrad…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was an experience more than a game, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It reminds me of a much simpler version of Kentucky Route Zero
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition is a game that I recommend because: - is a method to banish boredom - is a adventure game - have trading cards - is indie Enjoy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautiful, moving and important game. Excellent writing wrapped in flawless supporting tone. Mechanics that enhance and engage the player in the progression and meaning of the story. Play if alive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the art style is interesting and the story hints at many things, the game is simply not deep enough for me to recommend it. Dialogue options don't have consequences apart from unlocking a bit more information about people you're not invested in. Also, if you're a fast reader, it's annoying that the pauses between lines are so long. The epilogue is a little bit more interesting, but still not a recommendation.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing thought the game for a second time. Its a short somber story and a bigger impact as I have got older. Remember to call your parents while you still can

unlabelledView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A visual novel experience in the vein of Twine type stories, where what you say matters. Three Fourths Home is a tale about a woman named Kelly, who is estranged from her struggling family living in rural Nebraska. Her mom's jobless, her dad is disabled due to a workplace accident and drinking heavily to medicate his PTSD, her brother is a talented writer but has an unspecified mental disorder (I personally suspect it's autism of some stripe), and Kelly herself is a college dropout estranged…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I couldn't get past more than a few minutes with the strange and unresponsive controls. Not for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, let us Start by saying that this is a storybased graphic novel. If you are not in to that, ignore this title! Contrary to the other reviewers I read here, this game is NOT played through in 2 hours! You would need around 3-4 hours to reveal every aspect of the Story. Neither finishing the "main game" nor finishing "the epilogue" would count as 'finished'. To unravel the complete story and realising what all of this Story is about would have you read short-stories of Ben and looking at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short and quite melancholic game with simplistic design and good soundtrack. Three Fourths Home does actually hit a bit close to home; not too much but there's still the relatable story of moving away from your parents, temporarily coming back and knowing how things has changed while you're gone. Arguing with your parents over things that in the long run might not matter. It's one of those games of its time, back in the mid-2010s when the genre of experimental games were huge; for example…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To me, this game basically felt like Twine done well and interestingly. It successfully builds the mood it's portraying, thanks to clever use of simple controls and visuals. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to just anyone, but I see it as a case study in the genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like the sound of a crisp little drama about the desperation of farming, and rural life, this is for you. This is a text game with a lot of reading, and people talking about their feelings. This is not an adventure, or a challenge. Expect a story. I think it's a good story.
