The game has story acts designated by different areas where you meet new characters and gain new abilities. To make progress you have to complete objectives by grinding the endless levels, followed by an occasional unique event or a 'boss fight'. The narrative and detailed visuals are by far the strongest aspects of the game, while the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If this game looks interesting to you, buy it on your smartphone. The frustration that stems from its RNG mechanics and the repetitive grinding required to make the story progress (especially after the halfway point) is probably a lot more tolerable in short play sessions, which your phone is perfect for. On a computer however, the longer play sessions really bring out the worst this game has to offer: increasingly time consuming quests that become more and more reliant on luck. EDIT: after…

It can be boring for those who want to complete the game, but it's fun for those who play it short.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice mobile game but it was made for a touch interface so play it there if you like this type of endless runner.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's three card options and milliseconds to choose and activate the correct one. WHY aren't the three options each assigned their own button on the gamepad? Instead, I have to highlight and select the correct one. Meanwhile, the plot and important foreshadowing is occurring in the background left of the screen's graphics while the danger comes from the right. This was designed for mobile devices, wasn't it? On those you could just tap the correct option instantly, I'd bet. On a mobile…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Endless runner where you take control of a wooden car and have to travel south to the summer lands. Not going to lie, I'm disappointed at how this game turned out to be. The art style is nice and the whole concept sounded interesting to me. I don't understand why anyone would put rng in the inventory feature; it complicates the whole gameplay. You have to be quick at clicking the right tool at the right time to traverse obstacles. If you aren't lucky, you need to replace the wrong tool and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply put, all you do is to sit tight and let the RNG plays you over and over again until the RNG eventually get bored and let you pass. Another failure example of using RNG mechanism in game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review-in-progress: The gameplay is simple pattern-matching and doesn't do anything too exciting, but it's satisfying, if pretty repetitive. The dependency on random luck can get frustrating, especially in bossfights, but I haven't been stuck for too long yet. The music is really lovely and the art is decent, but the writing/narrative don't hook me very much, and there are quite a few typing errors in the dialogue. 3/5 "Good"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really thought I would enjoy this, as I like grindy games. However as others have said, the RNG is awful. You have minimal time to react to the obstacles, and there is a cooldown when cycling between powers so if you don't get what you want, you are SOL. Not worth the time or money IMO, even on a steep discount.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, the game at its core is an endless runner, with the added twist that you need to switch between 3 different tools to either jump over obstacles, boost or smash through things, so your car won't get damaged. Sounds fun? On paper yes, but not in reality. The tools you use are one use, so you have to buy them as you collect mushrooms for each run. That is not a big deal, but the big issue is that your character is in the middle of the screen and the right side of the screen has huge icons…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not like the way you have to manage the abilities. I wouldn't mind if they were always there and you had to use the right ones, but having 3 at random wasn't what I was expecting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play the mobile version. There is too much things going wrong in this port that I can't play it. Let's make a list of it. Do you know what are the differences in every car? I don't. You just buy them in the hope that can help ease your suffering going through this. Spoiler: it didn't. Some other people already pointed it out, but still, RNG isn't your worst enemy by chance. It was a series of decisions that made it this "powerful" Let's see why in detail: 1st culprit, the camera. You can see…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game with beautiful pixel art, and a team of devs who obviously care a lot about their game. However, the RNG kills my enjoyment of this game. You will die for no reason at all even with getting ready for most situations. 2/5

There's no way to opt out. This is completely unethical and reprehensible. Gamers must be aware of the dangers of installing this harmful software and should avoid this completely. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave the game a second chance, and I figured out a way to make the awkward controls work for me and if that's still not good enough I adjust the difficulty setting temporarily. It helps that the game's goals can be achieved by multiple very short runs instead of having to do very long runs. I still wish the game had full keyboard controls and didn't require a mouse, but I can at least progress now even though I'm never going to set any records. (I still haven't beaten it, but that's just a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lovely presentation: excellent pixel graphics, music and art direction. The gameplay is rotten. Controls are ham-fisted, think quick time events with a hand tied to your back. Player skill is limited to damage control, lots of grinding, retries, trial and error. The game isn't really frustrating, but more annoying and disappointing. I've cleared Summer Catchers out of spite.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ye Good Olde Scandinavian tradition of combining the disturbing and the heartwarming continues. Plenty of content, decent writing for kids, charming protagonist. And grind. Quite a bit of it. It wouldn't feel quite so grindy if the gameplay differed a bit more, but as it is, Summer Catchers hardly stands as a PC title. But it's quite obviously perfect for mobile platforms.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summer catchers is a sort of RNG-based endless runner/roguelite with RPG upgrade elements. I'm personally not usually one for endless runners, but the art style may be enough here to keep those who would usually be on the fringe. https://youtu.be/kHig0jWeW1Q My problem with the game is the way the RNG shakes out, the randomness of which I found to be more frustrating than not most of the time, and that's what set me back on this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RNG Luck!A beautiful adventure (but I did not finish) yet frustrating & very-grindy. Honestly, the visual & music is beautiful. But, the story, I don't know, I decided to uninstall in the middle of the story. In case wanna try this game, buy it on sale, and you might also get frustrated. Prolly just gonna play the mod version on smartphone. One of the frustrating things is the Random Number Generator (RNG), which is the obstacle. It's all about luck, I guess. I can't enjoy the view while on…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game does not work on PC - full stop. The UI is horrendous - the tools' buttons take over half of your screen and since there are no hotkeys (amazing) you have to concentrate on trying to switch the active tool in time to pass an obstacle (which you cannot see because you have to concentrate at the tools section of the screen). That alone makes the game unplayable. Additionally, I found the sounds the main character makes really annoying, rather than cute. Avoid at all costs - a terrible…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On the surface, this game seemed to be full of charm and I really looked forward to checking out the cute, pixely world of Summer Catch. The gameplay looked simple, but the narrative elements and the inclusion of boss fight challenges seemed like it would offer enough to keep the simple gameplay from becoming too stale. After 30 minutes of playing Summer Catch it became clear that all of that charm that existed on the surface was buried under a mountain of tedious RNG. The concept is simple:…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An endless runner with a bit of a story. Selecting your items to bring is interesting but can be pointless due to RNG. The boss sections can be frustrating because the boss moves don't account for the standard obstacles. This can lead to getting combo'd after dodging the boss attack. The biggest problem is each section has you complete 4 tasks. The tasks cannot be completed simultaneously and often require a special item to complete. Item doesn't show up during your run? to bad. Only one more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Similar to a runner, but instead of having a button to jump or slide or whatever, you have to bring items in your inventory that perform these actions, and select them right before the obstacle. So imagine a runner that is not skill-based and instead relies entirely on the randomization of levels and which consumables you packed. The entire scheme seems catered to mobile devices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The RNG during boss fights is crap. You can get stuck on some bosses for hours. Not because they're hard (they don't require any skill from player), but because of the RNG. Obstacles in this game are random, and some of them too hard to properly react (they require high reflexes), so it's easy crash on them. Additionally, during the 'boss run' (which you need to beat if you want to go on to the next stage) you also have to dodge boss attacks while avoiding standard obstacles. There are no…

For a game of pixels, its very impressive and exciting. I don't want to just "beat" the game, wanted to play many hours-which this game appears to provide. I'm looking forward to more hours of entertainment this weekend, its a well built game. If random dying is repetitive for some, i still recommend the game, just play it an hour or 2 at a time. 100 percent recommend…

The good: + Beautiful visual/pixel artstyle. + Fairly good soundtrack. + Game runs mostly fell on Linux (thanks to Steam Proton) with only few minor shuttering. The bad: - Poor K/M (keyboard/mouse) control. You need to use mouse to either use item or select item before you click "Space" to replace item. After checking on forum, you can use "1", "2" and "3" to choose the item, but it only solve problem of using item. - No option to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a ride. I bought the game because it had co-op and the gameplay looked straight-forward. It was something to occasionally pass the time with a friend. It started out that way, but with each level the story grew in unexpected and wholesome (or dark, in a few instances) ways. I got hooked. The gameplay was consistently fun throughout. New challenges were introduced as the story progressed and the bosses all felt unique. The game looked great too. Each new level was full of detail. This team…

After waking up under a pile of snow, she meet a friendly creature and call him, “bear” (a local wolf who builds her a wooden car), with the help of her friend, she starts her adventure to see summer on magical journey.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, the graphic is beautiful, the characters are fun and lovable...but the gameplay is not what I expected. You can surpass obstacles by purchasing abilities, which are consumed each time you actually use them so you better buy them in stocks. Plus they pop up randomly on the side of the screen, sometimes in doubles, so you even got to waste one so you can get the right one(if you are lucky). I'm too busy looking out for the kind of obstacle I'll be facing plus…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story and the world are interesting, but the gameplay is not so much. The gameplay itself is to click the proper icon at the right time. That's it, you can reroll from time to time, but if you don't have the proper icon, you fcked. So, play it on easily and enjoy the scenery. Pro tip: You need a small screen to make the game enjoyable. Handheld is preferable with a touch screen. On a big screen, you have to spend more time moving the mouse and clicking, so just run it in window mode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game. Unfortunately, the *literal* baby noises that your main character uses to communicate are maybe the most annoying thing I've ever heard. I exited the game and requested a refund within 10 minutes of playing for the first time. Music is cool. Graphics are cool. I like pixel art. But, wow. Those baby noises. Just... no.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. I've had it on my wishlist for quite some time and I was really looking forward to it. However, the RNG is some of the worst I've ever experienced in a game like this. It's the kind of game that should have been an easy home run for the dev. It's beautiful, the story is great, the concept is great, etc. The RNG just completely kills it for me. I spend a lot of time recording but I actually had to record this episode twice because the first recording was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a fabulous game. The gameplay is pretty straightforward throughout the whole game, but with the changing environment, different obstacles, and new upgrades, it's still consistently fun and entertaining. And even if you're not enticed by its gameplay, this game is still outstanding for its majestic visuals and music. Exploring this beautiful, whimsical world, drawn with wonderful art style, accompanied by such a lovely soundtrack and narrative, was trully a delight.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best thing about the game is its incredible charm. The pixel art, the music, the sound, the atmosphere. The game has such endearing character that before the gameplay even starts, you WANT to be on its team. Buuut the worst thing about the game is its gameplay, sorry to say. This is probably speaking more from the perspective of preference than from a perspective of quality, but the gameplay idea is just not that great an idea to me. You're not actually driving the car and have no real…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summer Catchers is a great game if you know what you're getting into. This is essentially an endless runner with RNG aspects. It reminds me of playing old school flash games on Newgrounds. Pretty much gameplay consist of you riding your sled 2D style in various environments, the challenge comes from how quickly you can react to the situation to survive the next second. You start off with 3 hearts that goes down whenever you hit an obstacle, fall in spikes, or instantly lose when falling behind.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →who is this game even for? who would want to play an endless runner reliant entirely on the RNG giving you the right one-time-use cards that you need to buy every run? the art is alright I guess? but with a plot and gameplay this thin I don't see any point in getting into it when I could be playing anything else.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute runner game with lovely pixel art graphics and great music. The story is sweet too. My only criticism would be that some of the gameplay is super tough, even on easy mode. For example, one of the puzzles you find cannot be done again if you fail, unless you start the game from scratch. The devs have noted that 'easy mode' is still way too hard and said they will look to change this in future games for those wanting a more casual experience. Overall a fun runner game, recommended if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Note: I completed the entire campaign ~8 hours, anything further was additional achievement hunting. Summer Catchers is a cute arcade racing game that follows a young girl's journey to visit the ocean and see summer. While there are quirks that detract from the overall quality of the game, the mechanics are sufficiently solid with no bugs such that the casual experience is enjoyable. Moreover while the game does not innovate or expand on its already established core mechanic, it is carried by…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty fun game. There are some repetitive parts that are really based on chances and can get quite dull. Otherwise, it was really fun playing this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming casual game with a beautiful art style. Explore several different landscapes and meet unique characters. During the journey there are some minigames to give a little variety. Hint: The gameplay depends very much on RNG. Try to equip max. 2-3 types of items at the time, especially for quests. This helps a lot, not to depend to much on RNG.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summer Catchers Review By, Z-Nation Summary: Going on road trips was always an adventure when I was a kid. The new indie game Summer Catchers developed by the developers over at FaceIT figured out a great way to give the gamer the feeling of traveling through a forest to get to your road trip destination at all costs. Summer Catchers is a fantastic looking side scroller indie game that will have you focused on any obstacle that comes in your way of getting to the other side of the forest.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The description of Summer Catchers is ambitious. They say, the game mixes racing, story, rhythm, and puzzle elements. Which is true in the most literal way. All of these elements are in the game but separate. Most of the time you're playing an infinite runner where you deploy equipment to keep driving. What you need to know is that the game is simple and casual. You buy the equipment so you control the ratio. Does that make it feel like you are in control? No. You're still going to get screwed…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I adored everything about this game...EXCEPT for the core game mechanic of choosing and deploying the right tool with almost zero reaction time. The art direction, music, even the physics were great. I just couldn't hack the underlying game loop. That made me sad, because I really wanted to make that journey in that wooden car. I'm not going to give this game a thumbs-down, though, because there may be people who will love it. And maybe I just suck at these twitch games. But I really wanted…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An indie, arcade-esque obstacle game, Summer Catchers is a new addition to the countless games Steam has made available this past season. The goal of the game: to “catch” summer (and the ocean), as your character lives in a land-locked world that is perpetually winter. She’s gotten tired of waking up to the cold, dark forest every day. By completing tasks for various creatures, your avatar gets a car built for her, and directions out of the depths of their homeland and out into the wild. As in…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of negative reviews I've seen on this game and elsewhere are by people who didn't seem to realize that the RATIO of items you are carrying matters. It's not ALL RNG! I usually have 50% of my items as the bumpers, 25% jumps, and divide up the other 25% between whatever other items may be needed for the task. Yes, there is SOME RNG to it, but for the most part, you can mitigate it by planning ahead, and dividing the items up properly. Overall, I thought this was a great game, very unique…
