Weak real life punches and unbelieveable actors don't hide the QTE even driven game. For a student film, it's alright, but for a 5 dollar game on steam, it just doesn't come up to snuff. Also, it's 2014. The need to censor the nazi symbol is ridculous. If you really want to see gameplay footage and more: http://youtu.be/A4-Fntg-LA0
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At least a non game like Dragon's Lair makes it worth putting up with the lame quick time events with awesome animations. This thing has the worst choreographed fights I've seen in my life as a 'reward' for your input efforts. So bad its just really, really bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stay Dead Evolution, Might not be the next ground breaking thing to enter the game charts, but it's an old concept/idea made possible with the modern days computers. Basically what you do is press the correct sequence of buttons to overcome your enemy. As difficulty increases, so does the time you've got to press the correct button (sequence) become shorter. If you do it right, well, then you get to see the according video sequence. Not much to it, but if you like old skool action movies. Then…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like QTE's, this is for you. That is all this appears to be. Having played 14 minutes and got on the 3rd foe, I could not recommend this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Are you looking for a series of disconnected fights with zero story? Do things like dialogue bother you? Do you crave a game of nothing but Simons says quick time events? Do you miss the bygone era of embarassing full motion video games? Then this is the game for you! Seriously though, I got bored with this in less than ten minutes. Nine, to be exact.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZFFH360cz0 Stay Dead Evolution is a fighting game developed by the italian company Brucefilm. There isn't really a story to the game: you play as generic action hero number 21 who kicks and punches bad guys. The end. When I started playing, I was literally laughing at how easy it was. You press three arrow keys to attack or defend, defending on which prompt appears. While simple at first, the harder the game gets, smaller and faster the prompts are. When you…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FMV fighting game where combat takes place primarily through rhythmic QTE sequences ✅Use of live-action footage ✅Nice graphics ✅Feels like watching an interactive movie (It's a shame it's only the QTE type, which I like, but that's not enough for me) ❌Low content. Only 3 main enemies, plus a possible bonus fight and one unlockable enemy ❌The entire fight is based on a single QTE type ❌No scenes explaining the story or the meaning of the events. ❌The price should be definitely lower…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FMV game with battle sequences. Plays pretty much like QTE where you press right buttons at the right time. You can do combos by inputting consecutive sequences. Game gets quite hard later on and depending on the difficulty level it might take a lot of trying. FMV is ok, you will encounter random fighters inspired by different cultures. Overall play only if you're into FMV games but don't expect something mindblowing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remember when FMV arcade games were popular? I do, but that's because I'm older than dirt. Seriously though, I think that there's a certain charm to QTE-based FMV games. A lot of them feature dozens of ways to die, and it's amusing to see just what can go wrong, simply because you pressed up instead of down. It also helps that some games - like Dragon's Lair 2 - have really interesting visuals. There's nothing amusing or visually interesting about Stay Dead Evolution. The developers of this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's something charming about this games stupidity - with its really simple simon says gameplay, and how it was clearly made in a non-English speaking territory - yet it still knows how to pay respect to the classics with an unlockable 90's filter being essentially the Sega CD Mode. (And it sucks that the filter is more of a hinderance because some of the necessary cursors can become obfuscated by the pixels.) Still - this game took me less than an hour (or 0.9 hrs according to Steam) to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game based off of a nice gimmick. This wont keep you playing for a while, but its a nice concept and could have been better with some story elements similar to Shenmue for dreamcast / Xbox.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stay Dead Evolution is one of those games that I really want to recommend, simply on its novelty. But unfortunately Brucefilm didn't quite stick the landing, and the effort comes across as scattered and poorly implemented. I have to applaud the FMV work. It's incredibly cheesy in a good way, and is definitely both the sell and high point of the game. Unfortunately...it's wedded to a really weird input system. 'Combat' boils down to quick-time-Events that use the arrow keys(or the Dpad on a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ugh. Gave this game a shot because I actually like FMV games. The combat timing interface is just horrible. The filming production quality isn't bad though
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Live action fight scenes controlled by QTEs. Smooth gameplay. http://youtu.be/YE1IB-_R8-8
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't get it... I never bought this game, nor I have never played this. Yet I have 14.7 hourrs on it somehow? What is happening? what is this game even? When did it appear? I don't understand... D: What the heck... I hate FMV QTE games with a passion so I am sure I haven't purchased this pile of garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →kinda fun i would pay money to play a go-kart game done in this style
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remember the saturation of FMV games in the 90`s on cd based consoles, particularly the Sega cd (Mega cd)? Well this game is basically going back to those days, and seriously those were a style of game that should never be ressurected. This game is dull, boring, nothing but quick time events with a really boring and unconvincing fmv fight sequence played through it. Just do your self a favour, avoid like the plague. If you want this kind of nostalgia then dig out a sega cd.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game (interactive movie) is like LOL with all the actors facial expressions. At the same time it manages to be highly irritating with the QTE's. But some of the QTE's you end up lol'ling at with the target shrinking. There's a 90's and 80's mode. Both of which mimic what the game would be like on 90's and 80's gaming hardware. The 80's one made me lol with the boxed screen, lag and pixilation. But it'll just annoy you playing like that. The gameplay is kinda like the film BASEketball in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The QTE games I've played in the 90s were much better on Sega Saturn and MAME. I am not fan of this game, but props to the attempt.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short Review Stay Dead Evolution is an extremely short (~20 min) fighting game that utilizes only one type of QTE for combat. Similar to a rhythm game, a dot will move left or right. When it arrives in the Attack or Block box, you must press a button/combo of buttons/correct directional button. There are only 3 enemies, with a possible bonus round and 1 enemy unlocked after beating the first 3 - that's it. To be fair, this indie game uses FMVs which severely limits the amount of control you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I state upfront that love FMV games. I also like fighting games, but I haven't really played them since the late 90s. This game is FMV, but not a real fighting game - it's a QTE game. And for some strange reason, not even fluid on a solid PC. My biggest problem wasn't the difficulty itself, as that I can manage and adjust to, but the fact that the QTE UI lags. Then trying to hit the targets in the desired time window is really hard and frustrating. Sorry guys, but any QTE game needs to be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a bad game but I'd wait for a sale. The gameplay can be summed up to a bunch of Quick Time Events that pop up on top of FMV cinematics. If you succed the QTEs your character blocks or attacks the enemy, if you fail your character gets hit or drops his combo, depending on what's happening in the movie. There's no plot (which is not a bad thing, in my opinion) and the FMV scenes are actually pretty well done. In total the game has 4 stages (plus one bonus and one secret stage) for a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It could have worked in nineties, but even if the idea to bring back some old-school-like game is not bad itself, the execution is.Totally boring Quick Time Events with just a few moves and horribly bad acting.Do not consider buying it for 6 Euro.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're the kind of weirdo that likes FMV, dance dance revolution and fighting games this is a must buy. Great little game that is very, very deep.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man, talk about second-hand embarassment.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i think it's not a good game over all. simple click button in time. The fights would be much nicer if there where any story. over all. maybe if there where story and you realy know some of the chars it would be fun. but at the moment the game have nothing to show, simple videosequenz in click. alot more funnier games with gameengines make this better
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Guys, just because this is an FMV game, and some of you like the genre (just like me), you shouldn't pick everything up with that tag, including this one (if you interested in FMVs of course). Even though the game has some challenge, you need to replay it a lot and get your senses straight to unlock everything, which brings up the question: is it worth to unlock everything in a game, where you have to watch a square to hit another square and react in time? Because you will concentrate to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like that they put in some effort doing something different and reviving the full motion video (FMV), quick-time events (QTE) genre of game. Unfortunately it doesn't work. The video quality isn't stellar, now that we're in the hidef era, the video should probably try to match the modern day standard. The gameplay is pretty woeful, there's more gameplay in Dance Dance Revolution etc. You're just tapping a couple of keys every now and then to throw a punch or dodge or whatever. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not even entirely sure if this is supposed to be a game. But even if it was a "cinematic experience", it's not even that either. There's 4 enemies, some basic QTE and then ending credits. Took me 25 minutes to beat all 4 at highest difficulty. So yea. Just don't buy this. I paid like 25 cents and I'm pissed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, FMV?? YES PLEASE!!! It's a fun and unique way of making games, very cool! Mechanics are simple, but it gets better as it gets harder and more moves and foes are introduced. It sure needs more moves, more footage, better finishing scenes, etc etc, and overall it feels unfinished even though its called "Evolution" by now. Definetely worth a try if you catch it on sale though! MAN i wish this was HOTSEAT MULTIPLAYER....
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like SKYRIM with less bugs and more refined open world! Like PaRappa the Rapper minus the soundtrack! Like Shenmue, but with more realistic graphics and acting. + You get to fight a M. Bison look-a-like wearing a swastika armband: My life is now complete. - Jean-Claude Van Damme is not in this. 10/10: Would Quick-Time-Event again!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the style of an FMV game you might find in the 90's on Sega CD, but also it's a 1 on 1 fighting game. The combo doesn't really work, you see the same video clips again and again, and it just doesn't feel good to control, or satisfying when you win.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →KAMGUSTA'S MINI REVIEW It's a "FVM" game with quicktime events. The idea seems good, but: - it's an amateurish single man work - a fighting game it's not what I'd do in FVM - it's short and boring Best played with keyboard Recommended buy price: 1$ Score: 3/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got bored after the first fight.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stay Dead Evolution is about being hero on B-movie, but that also apply to quality of the game itself. The usage of video/FMV is somehow cool, but transition between video fight scene is awkward. The mechanics is also weird/confusing and feel closer to QTE rather than Beat'em up. You better spend your time and money for either Bruce Lee movies or Tekken games.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Suprisingly good for a dragon's lair type fmv fighting game. I've played prize fighter for sega cd and this game is so much better than that. The controls give a bit of freedom to your timing which is nice. Basically the fights work in certain patterns and you need to learn your opponents attacks before you can really win fights. There are different levels of difficulty as you advance so there is a challenge even after you finish the game once. It's an fmv game so the problem comes in with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No sane person actually likes quicktime events. This game is one endless QTE...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is beyond stupid. Im not going to play this. Must have got it in a bundle with maybe one good game but this sure wasn't it. Its just a QTE game. You hit specific buttons at the right moment when they show up on the screen and the character does something. I thought this trash played out in the 90s but some goof must have thought this was worth wasting money to make. Probably had even dumber people give him crowd funding money to make it as is the usual from what I have seen. I thought it…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an odd game. Mash up of a fighting game/rtyhym game. Its all done in video clips (like old school night trap) only better. It actually plays suprisingly well, and the difficulty isnt too brutal. Learning curve is a tiny bit steep, but otherwise its a solid game once you get the hang of it. Try this one out if you are looking for something new and totally different to play!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 the citizen kane of modern video games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An interesting concept but move animations can be repeated. There is no variation unless you specifically do different button presses. Most people will probably start off with one or two directions which immediately makes the game repetitive. I'm also not a fan of the end match animation. It just feels like a perpetual fight where there is no impact. Eventually the match ends arbitrarily as the points vanish. An interesting concept and could be fun for fans of QuickTimeEvent driven games. I did…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stay Dead Evolution is an eccentric and experimental title that stands apart from most modern action games by embracing a deliberately retro design philosophy rooted in full-motion video and cinematic presentation. Developed by Brucefilm and published by Plug In Digital, the game feels less like a conventional beat ’em up and more like an interactive B-movie where the player’s inputs guide the flow of live-action scenes. From the outset, it makes no attempt to hide its unusual identity, instead…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This FMV QTE fighting game is such an interesting concept. Too bad it wasn't developed more, probably cause of tight budget. You can add Story/Campaign that's cliche/predictable but decent, add a bit of props and CGI for realism/immersion, more stages, more enemies, more mechanics (you can set it up as QTE too but different), losing/defeated animation for more immersion, and you actually have a decent fighting game. The characters are already fine, the protagonist already looks like a badass…
