What is Skilltree Saga? First let me say what it is not: Skilltree Saga describes itself as a Rogue-like game in the Dark Eye universe. It is indeed a genre-redefining experience. And by genre-redefining I mean the type of "Skyrim is a First Person Shooter". Yes, it has two aspects of Rogue-likes: You can fight monsters and you get loot and experience for it. But there is no such thing as dungeon maps to go through, nothing you would commonly associate with the name Rogue. Or with its likes.…

Cons: - This *not* a rogue-like game. It's just a sequence of combats reminiscent of about a gazillion generic flash games. - After a while it degrades into a grind of one-hitting until the opponents get so strong that you have to retreat and start the next grind. - "The Dark Eye" universe is far away. Maybe a thing or two taken from there but that's about it. Pros: + Graphic style is quite nice but not contributing to the gameplay.

While Skilltree Saga seems initially compelling, the novelty wears off when the game reveals its true face. As other reviewers have noted, it feels like a mobile game. The storyline is extremely sparce; you're rescuing some girl from some monster or other, some stranger suddenly decides to train you in magic, and off you go. You'll perform the same battles countless times, marginally increasing your stats and abilities, slowly looting or buying your armor and weapons, and crawlingly moving…

Alas, I must confess that this game is almost certainly not worth your time and money. First off, let us be clear: this is NOT a rogue-like, in any sense of the word. Your character is immortal, and if you are defeated in combat you get a tiny slap on the wrist (which may not be anything at all, depending on how many items you found on that particular adventure). Speaking of "adventure," the game has only one mechanic: click to start the fight. Each fight is automatic, with zero input from…

The game is extremely simple with very little depth. The skill tree is the same for all characters and the combat is automatic. I found that i just ended up using blitz skill first to one shot every enemy with no semblance of strategy. If you cant beat an enemy then just go back to town and start over, one shotting enemies until you get bored. I made it to level 20 before i gave up.

IN A WORD: MAYBE IN SHORT: WHAT TO EXPECT: Set in the world of The Dark Eye. Ample campaign content. Colourful side-on 2D graphics. Basic audio. Well-designed, somewhat deep combat RPG mechanics. Slow, turn-based, repetitive gameplay. Focused enemy A.I. Very grindy. Lots of dying and restarting. Single-player only. ACHIEVEMENTS: VERY GRINDY. A BEAST OF A FINAL ONE. STATUS: COMPLETE. WHEN TO BUY: DISCOUNTED. Depending on your preferences for this genre. More info below.... THE LOWDOWN:…

Summary: Simple stats based game, turn based combat, minimal story, progression through random rewards and levelling. Would be good as a mobile game. Story: Its a randomly generated sequence of fights, with a boss every 10 monsters from what little I've played. Theres a bit of dialogue but nothing that drew me in (could be wrong, I've not even finished the first area). Gameplay: Pick a sequence of moves at the start of each round, which I guess is intended for you to memorise the monster types…

I dig this game. You level a human, elf or dwarf by entering dungeons with randomly generated encounters. Leaving a dungeon without dying means you get to keep the loot you earned, so fleeing to fight another day is a good idea. The goal is to complete all dungeons and rescue the local baron's daughter from the villain. Kind of a classic theme and gives you something to work towards aside from filling up your skillset and upgrading your gear. Gear seems to be also randomly generated, so you get…

Skilltree Saga is fun! I was just fighting a boss and only had 2 HP left. The boss buffs itself and misses with an earthquake blast. Phew. Just barely made that one, but it was intense and worth it. I got a mythril plate of the tiger for my troubles and then retreated to town to heal and gear up for another dungeon run. It really makes you sweat sometimes because if you die, you lose all the loot you collected in that dungeon instance. Worth playing!

I enjoy all of the games set in the world of The Dark Eye; except for this one. Why? Well, there is almost no story to speak of, and the game seems to be only superficially related to the world of Aventuria as far as I can tell, but the main problem with this game is the excessive degree of grinding required to reach the end. By level 50 or so, you have to literally fight dozens upon dozens of battles which don't give you ANY experience (enemies 10 levels below your character don't offer…

The game itself feels incomplete at this stage, given that a lot of animations are broken or missing, model designs are low quality as well as enemy designs. Skilltree Saga is reasonably entertaining, although very repetitive and grindy towards the end of the game. You will find yourself sitting down for a decent 6-10 hours just to finish the last map alone depending on what class you choose. The name itself is deceptive, in that the skills in the skill tree are very limited and there are…

Really? This should be a The Dark Eye (TDE) game? I play TDE (pen n paper) for over 20 years now. So even though the genre (roguelike) is not really my thing, I needed to have this game. Happely I bought it in a sale and didn't spent too much money on it. Still, it was a waste of good money. There are very good TDE games out there. This however, is *not* one of them. Apart from hardly being a game, this has absolutely nothing to do with TDE. It could be set in any setting. It is a game…

Skilltree Saga is certainly a game that played with my heart. Whenever I hear the word “Rogue” my heart skips a beat, and right on the Steam page it advertises itself as such. If done right, it could be an extremely immersive experience. There isn’t a thing in the world I love more than dwarves and magic. I’ve sung the virtues of scraping stats on many occasions. Those new pants aren’t just shiny, they’re soaked in endorphins. It’s not as gross as it sounds. Well, it is. But at least it feels…

I was excited about this game, becausse it gave off the false impression that I would be exploring dungeons, in a typical rogue style. Unfortunately, all you get to do in this game is equip things and watch your hero do exactly what you told him to in advance. For 100+ 'dungeons' which don't even have maps, because you can't explore them. 0/10 stars. awful gameplay, awful art, awful music. awful.

A very light RPG with a little dungeon crawling mixed in. Essentially, you'll choose your race (human, elf, or dwarf) and embark on a mission to level up your character by picking a dungeon, get as far as you can, and retreat back to town to heal up and buy/equip new loot. You don't have control during combat...rather, you can assign skills from your skill tree into a que and the system will rotate through this que in sequential order. It's not a bad game, though the player won't have a lot…

Overall: I enjoyed the game, however I did read all of the other reviews first and knew what I was getting into. NOTE: It is NOT what the vendor has described it as, their are no rogue-like components, it is a simplistic flash game that has some elements of gameplay that are fun. It was also on steam sale so very cheep. This is hard for me to do this review, cause on the one hand it is good for what it is, a fun little Flash type RPG, with classic point and click style adventure game graphics,on the other hand, it really is not worth the 9.99 for a game the likes of which you can play free through other sources, when you move around the world map, it costs so much gold, when you encounter a enemy, the graphics are like a point and click adventure(on the map too, as well as in the city) . This game is a game for lazy people who don't mind or even like repetition. From the very beginning I was interested in this title and its climate and probably because of that I liked it. The game itself requires from us to have a mouse, keyboard won't be useful. Although the price itself is a little overdone compared to the content, it's a simple game that fits perfectly as a break from the larger titles and it fulfill its role.

A fun and casual RPG-lite which is also quite good looking. You don't actually control your character during fights, instead you set him up beforehand based on your next opponent. When you reach an opponent that is out of your league, you simply click the retreat button and go back to town to buy better gear. The caveat being that when you retreat from a dungeon you will have to start from the beginning of it next time you enter. But battles are fast so it doesn't really matter that you have to…

Skilltree Sega labels itself as a “Rogue Like RPG” as so many titles do nowadays. In this games instance however it isn’t entirely truthful. Skilltree Sega seems as if something that would work better as an iOS game rather than a PC game. You play as a warrior and go through different environments and fight randomly generated enemies to level up, learn new powers and progress further. Now as far as the game play for doing all that though goes, there really isn’t any. Battles are turn based and…

If you are a Dark Eye universe fan, this still isn't even nearly worth playing. Perhaps the most basic, boring, tedious combat system I have seen in a game. Hearthstone is more action packed, and that's all cards running into other cards. In this game strategy is set up, then you have about six turns of your guy wailing on them. Rock paper scissors, where you have to guess or know what they're going to do each round to best hit them, and neither guessing nor knowing is fun. "Battle randomly…

Very shallow gameplay and content, even free it ain't worth your time. Everything from gameplay to graphics screams flash game about it. It pretty much revolves around preparing spells before you enter a battle, and that is pretty much all the challenge because you have no control of anything during the battle. It might be ok if you like to micro manage stuff before battles, but even so this game offers way too little even for someone who enjoys that.

As others have stated, I would avoid this game. There is very little interaction beyond setting the order of your skills before the fight, then sitting back and watching the outcome. If you had been able to choose your skills, it would have been a much better game. But as it stands, it quickly becomes a boring slog of " click fight, click loot, click fight, click loot,... repeat ad nauseum". Avoid.

So, the game is not the worst thing I've ever played, but it's definitely not worth the trouble/cost. In the beginning, there seems to be some promise of better, deeper combat and gameplay, but by the time you get mid-way through the second area, you realize that the concept falls completely flat. The core mechanic is fighting through "dungeons"(?), killing a block of enemies and looting new equipment until you are strong enough to beat the area boss. That fighting is extremely repetitive.…

It is still doable, you just need patience. The artwork is pretty nice actually and the music pleasurable to listen to. The "roguelike elements" aren't really present at all - if you die, you keep all your gold only losing the loot you picked up. You use experience to purchase/upgrade various skills, some of which were pretty interesting and useful.
