Shattered Haven
Developer Arcen Games
Shattered Haven is a survival puzzle adventure video game created and published by Arcen Games, initially developed under the name Alden Ridge. The plot is set in a Lovecraftian post-apocalypse, where the player must navigate branching storylines to protect a small family from zombies (called "grays" in the game), limited resources, and impassible terrain. Each level is a fully contained puzzle, and the player must… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Platform: Windows, Mac and Linux. Business Model: Base Game Copy supplied via press key from Arcen Games The Shattered Haven experience overall has a feeling of confliction. Like like the dev(s) were uncertain of what they wanted to make until the last figurative minute. There are underpinnings of a really great game here…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, a freebie from PC Gamer Mag. Yay! Described within as "A zombie game for those who dislike Zombie games". I'm not the greatest fan of Survival horror, as most Zombie games tend to be, so I thought I'd give ths a shot. It's... poor, to say the least. There is potentially a phenomenal story in there but the control scheme, lack of ingame information (or perhaps lack of clarity) and pre-8bit graphics let it down badly - to the point that, after a mere 45 minutes, I find myself not caring…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the developers of AI: Fleet Command and A Valley Without Wind comes Shattered Haven. Shattered Haven is a zombie survival game where the player is presented a variety of scenarios to overcome. The story follows Mary and Darrel as they flee from their once safe haven in search for their lost children. Shattered Haven can be played as a single player game or cooperatively. The player is put in an 'overworld' where the player must locate various portals that lead to individual challenges.…

SH does neither of those things. In this game, you start by playing as some children who use Home Alone traps to fight zombies. Later on, you play as adults who do the same thing. Basically, the adults are as effective as children in this game. The dialogue sounds like it was written by a ten year old who doesn't read much. "(Laughs darkly)" is actually part of an…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Without bad games there could be no good games. Thank you Shattered Haven.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this for £0.06 and it still isint worth the money. If someone were to come to me and say heres a free game and they gave me a code for this i would punch them in the face and piss on the code thats how bad this game is.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game caught my attention being on weeklong sale. Never heard of it before, and it looked quite interesting to me. But when I noticed it's 75 % off not even 1 month after the game was released?! That got me really interested. The game combines different genres, mixing puzzle, rpg and survival-horror elements in 8-bit style. Now after playing it for more than 2 hours, I have to say I really love this game! The puzzles are great, I like the art-style and the music is just awesome. The story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arcen Games is one of those studios that I'm really glad exists, even if I don't rush out to buy every one of their games. Each of their titles is a unique mashup of incongruous mechanics and off-kilter storylines that, if nothing else, makes for a truly singular experience. And so it is with Shattered Haven, a zombie puzzle RPG that takes you through a strange and unpredictable tale of loss by making you kill monsters in inexplicably contrived levels. The catch is that this time, the aesthetic…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sad to say I feel I wasted a lot of time on this. It had potential when I first started the game, disjointed story aside. Unfortunately, that potential disappeared after I figured out that everything you needed to do in the game was doing simple to absurd puzzles till they let you move to a new area, and some of the puzzles relying entirely on RNG to actually pass them successfully. A poor gameplay decision at best, since the RNG is as likely to kill you as the enemies you need it to kill, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →arcen is a company that makes unique and mostly underrated games, but I'm pretty sure shattered haven is their least known (and appreciated) title, which is sad because it's a really fun game that I'm sure a lot of people own because it's been bundled and sold for real cheap many times. it's a cool spin on the zombie genre (they're called grays here), you control a family of survivors, trying to make your way to, well, a haven, by going through many different areas (forest, swamp, snow, etc.)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one was so bad I felt like I was being punished. :-(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lack of tutorial and a queer story line lead to an forgettable experiance unfortionatly. Maybe if i spent some time reading how to play properly i could like this game but as of now it just doesn't feel like it is worth my time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really fun game that mixes Zelda like overworld-gameplay (and I am speaking of Zelda I III here, folks!) with up to 100 levels filled to the brim with environmental puzzles accessed from there. The goal of each level is either to kill all zombies (called Grays here which are quite a different breed from your regular zombies) using the environment and what tools, traps and weapons you can forage from it or to escape from maze-like structures filled with switches, secret passages and more.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The other reviews I have read for this game are right on the money. A promising, yet slightly disjointed game. Remeniscent of the old school NES dungeon crawlers and with some (I stress "some") well thought out puzzles, I could overlook the weak storyline and get stuck in. However the repetative nature, and buggy AI made it infuriating to play at times. I'm going to stick with it, and hope it improves as it goes along, but as it stands right now, I wouldn't recommend you buy this game outside…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another fun game from Arcen. This is different from all their other titles (and I have no idea how they churn them out so quickly). It has a Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past feel to it, but with specific "puzzles" to work through as you advance. The puzzles typically aren't so hard that you ragequit, and are presented in a way that you can bypass some of them if you want. The story is good and unfolds at a reasonable pace, and it's very atmospheric. This is another entry on my very short…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To understand this game, first imagine a 9.5-rated action puzzler on Armor Games. (Alternatively, it could be on Newgrounds, but this is more an Armor Games sort of game.) Now imagine it expanded into a full-length game, with more levels, more weapons, more enemies, and the same base mechanics and production values. You're not getting anything here that you couldn't get in a basic form for free on the Internet, but you're getting it thoroughly explored in far more combinations and permutations…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best game I've played in a long time. I really can't recommend this highly enough. The story is engaging, the music is incredible, the gameplay is nostalgic and innovative. It's almost like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and the Adventures of Lolo had a lovechild. Plus, they include the same editor that they used to create the levels. Really, what are you waiting for?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The control scheme, lack of clarity ingame information let it down badly. The game's story does not stretch the limits of imagination as well. This might be a game that takes a while to hit its stride, but what I played in 20minutes really didn't inspire me to keep going... :(

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/n_kNGxVWk6w Many of the gameplay systems have the glimmer of inner depth, but the limited on-boarding and player direction will frustrate many players before seeing anything under the surface.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad Controls, bad story, bad game. 10/10 would refund if they didn't get it free in PC Gamer.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When you want to waste your time then it´s perfect for you. this is a 2D "cloud view" game with some pointless story. The thing is that you are in a umm..... let´s just say zombie apocalypse and you have to find your family and so on. the best graphics are on cutcenes that are just a picture with some text scrolling and a guy narrating it. this is just pointless. those few hundred megabytes does not make it to be good on old computers. on some older cards (I mean GPU cards) the game will…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have made a huge mistake
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shattered Haven (2013) The plot is set in a post-apocalypse where you have to protect your family while fighting of zombies and solving puzzles. Never knew you could make a zombie game so bland and slow as this title. The best part of this game is all the descriptions on the Steam store page, rather read that and imagine what this game could have been, its cheaper and saves you a lot of time. Rather get another zombie game with better story and gameplay, they exist on Steam. 5/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am all about appreciating games in spite of low production values but they dip too low here
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played a lot of Arcen's games and I've enjoyed many of them even if they can be rough around the edges but I don't feel this is really their best work. Its a horror game that isn't scary or interesting to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A waste of disc space.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I highly doubt many will enjoy Shattered Haven. I mean, this game doesn't look appealing and it plays strange. The story, puzzles, and gameplay is really decent and it doesn't make people stay with it any longer than for the test run. So if there is anything I liked about it, it's the strange atmosphere of horror, it managed to make me feel uneasy. But that's all so yeah, if you think something like that could be worth a buck or two (during sale), give Shattered Haven a try.

I understsand I only have 20 mins on this game, which is just ♥♥♥♥ all, but just, there isnt anything fun in it. Want to take a risk? negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →weird game. It's got this old text based adventure feeling from way abck in the 70s. RPG? Adventure? IF? It's interesting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sometimes I feel like, I should play crappy looking games that I have never heard of. And somehow, im not surprised to any extend that this is, as expected utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Bad voicing, weird gameplay, weird mechanic and a somewhat boring made up story in a worse than RPGMaker interface. I like good indie games, not this kind of stuff.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I quite liked this one. It reminds me of arcade games like Boulder Dash, but with a story. Basically in each level you are set down in a maze and told to kill all the zombies. They bill it is as a puzzle game, but the emphasis is much more on avoiding the zombies, the puzzle comes into it in that usually you must kill the zombies and pick things up in a proper order. It did get a bit repetitive eventually, but I could see myself coming back to it and playing a few levels here and there.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, the controls are difficult to understand. The story was somewhat entertaining for the few minutes I dealt with the controls, but I definitely wouldn't purchase this game. I recieved it free from PC Gamer Mag

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review Shattered Haven is a game developed and published by Arcen Games, LLC The game offers some pleasant graphics and graphical style, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same However, the story is a little generic, but better than nothing, as well as the gameplay is a sort of top-down shooter-ish type of game but also a bit generic, as well as quests are more or less generic. The game has some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a strange game, but like other games that Arcen produced - it's different.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh Arcen, you silly goofs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an overhead puzzle survival game. Not for everyone, I played it for a little bit and ignored the whole story because when the characters talk it just drags on forever. The feel to the game is creepy like it should be, as creepy as a retro graphical game can be I suppose. The many enemies are called "Greys" which is just their skin color so that could have had a little better thought put into it. They are weak to iron, like seriously putting down even iron tacks kills them. Seriously, step…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have not written many reviews on steam but this game is getting alot more hate then it deservers. The game is more of a top down puzzle game then a action or a survival type game. The story is decent not ground breaking by any means and I would probably only give it a 7/10 overall but the game play is there and it is worth the asking price. A shame to see so much hate on a good game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Luckily I for free in a PC Gamer magazine instead of wasting $10 on this trash
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RUBBISH WOULD NOT RECOMMEND WASTE OF MONEY
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like a really hard Goof Troop with silly voice acting. Which I guess is still like Goof Troop. Take a few minutes to set it up with JoyToKey and you're good to go.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Might be an okay game if it wasn't for the awful UI.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A zombie survival/puzzle game. I love a lot of Arcen's games conceptually but they tend to be hit or miss gameplay wise, and this one was a miss for me. I can't make heads or tails of it. Go around, collect items, and try to solve levels but I found the controls and the puzzles to be inscrutable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A challenging artstyle, poor UI, gimmicky levels and bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally fell asleep, cool squid tho
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shattered Haven is a 2 player co-op retro pixel 2D top down puzzler/post apocalypse zombie survival horror game. Control 1 or 2 retro pixel characters and solve various puzzle/minigames to progress through the game. As the description implies, this really is a game that does not know what it wants to be. The developer has produced some good games in the past, but this is not one of them. Technically, there's support for 4K graphics, but there's no UI scaling so you end up looking at a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought this might have been similar to Two Brothers where you control two characters, but honestly I have no clue after playing for half an hour if that is the case. The 2nd player follows you around, but you supposedly can control them (and there are items only they can get at times). The two player but not actually two player system makes the controls less intuitive and more difficult to get a handle on than they really should be. Maybe this is an unpolished gem that I just can't see.…
