SGS Korean War
Developer Strategy Game Studio
The first intense conflict of the Cold War, this war is very often forgotten, its very rapid and dynamic but unknown aspect obliterated by months of stagnation following the first year of operations in Korea. Can you make it remembered? From the Steam store page

Gameplay / Story The Korean War from 1950 to 1953 was a military conflict between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) and its allied People's Republic of China on the one hand and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) and United Nations troops led by the USA on the other Side. Each of the two Korean states that emerged from the Soviet and US occupation zones in Korea…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to get this posted while the 50% off sale is still in motion, as of 2/14/23. For veteran SGS players, the $15 is quite a bargain. It might not be the best choice for those new to the series, as the UI takes a little bit of getting used to. But for those familiar with the conflict simulated, I'd give it a go. For the few who care, the text files can be easily modded - like all SGS games, I believe. I am already getting my personal money's worth from the "Operation_Storm224_Campaign,"…

An operational level strategy game that is turn-based, it depicts one the major 'hot' conflicts of the Cold War from 1950 to 1953. Players take command of one of two factions (Communists vs United Nations) controlling elements of army and air forces across…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, it's true, I'm working on an SGS game, namely NATO's Nightmare. But if I found that a SGS game is bad, I could tell to the editor and we would discuss it. It's true, the game was offered to me, but does that fundamentally call into question my good faith ? I have over 400 games in my Steam library, and between my GOG library and my Epic library, I have over 1,000 games. Which does not make me, I believe, a "puppet". I'm a true player, and I love good games. And I wouldn't have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buyer beware - the main campaign of this game has campaign-breaking issues, & dev support ranges from questionable to non-existent. It was clearly not playtested. First off, I was stoked for this one. I love indie strategy covering forgotten conflicts & have a personal connection to the Korean War. Presentation is actually pretty solid for this genre. Tinkering with the limited scenarios - FWIW the small scenarios are just limited portions of the regular map & fewer turns, not hand-designed…

I had never studied the Korean conflict in much detail, but now I feel that the depth of this game has corrected that deficiency to some great degree. I was impressed with the depth of the OOB research, close attention to details of strategies AND tactics involved during the war, the impact of politics and the leaders on both sides, weather effects, terrain - nothing's left out in the development of this game. With the many scenarios,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The complete fog-of-war preventing you from seeing anything at all about what strength the enemy has is not a desirable feature. The menu option to turn this FOW off also doesn't work. Without knowing anything about what the enemy has and where they could potentially move to, I'm not really sure what the strategy is, other than form an alpha stack and hope for the best. Forming a line and trying to defend seems pointless, because any point can always be overwhelmed by an alpha stack. So,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is pretty fun; I'm in the 3rd scenario now, and I like the way the card system is integrated into the game, it adds a bit of chance, without being too strongly random. If you've played any of the other SGS titles, you'll be able to jump right in; if not, the game is pretty intuitive, although there are definitely some aspects that could use some detailed explaining - the rules right now are a bit generic, but apparently that is planned to be fixed. As an example, US B-29s are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SGS has good quality fun games! Look forward to more....I was able to draw the commies in about 38 turns. Dont be shy to take it all if your on a roll. I held back! No Mercy (kobra kai)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of this posting only played one of the shorter scenarios but the game has depth and the graphics are up to the usual high standard. It is apparent that the devs did their research as there is a lot if history to be learned as you play .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bigger than others in the SGS series, with an added layer of 'economy' complexity. Pros: + The game uses the SGS games' core engine to recreate the Korean conflict. Knowledge of the rules from the other titles, with minor alterations/additions, makes this entry very easy to get into despite its larger size. + Some provinces generate direct income to the controlling side while others generate income via destructible/conquerable structures (e.g. factories, river dams, etc.). This adds a new…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My pbem opponent says, best map and game he has played. I say, I am still down in the bush trying to find my way to victory. This is such a fun game with such great graphic. It is a war I kind of only knew from my parents' friends, but now I am engaged in it, I am learning so much about this war when I was but a wee child.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, but with a lot of unnecessary and bad game interface solutions. A detailed manual is missing for new players.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. While on the offensive both sides can make long advances trying to bypass enemy positions. But beware of your lines of communication, if an enemy slips behind you you can take serious losses for being out of supply.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My last SGS game I think. They're fun and flavourful, but they really don't hold up to scrutiny. This has an unfinished feel, its buggy like the others and there are many oversights that lead to the game becoming an annoying wreak (such as the UN player being able to massively overstack pusan due to how reinforcements work, and its definitely not intentional).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fine game, maybe even can be considered as a good game.Yet in current version of the game, with some basic understanding of the game, the red can easily overrun the blue. Here is some problem I found that if being fixed, would greatly improve the perform of the game.AI hardly left any force in the east side of Korea and NKA can just rush into Busan.AI does not conduct landing with the exception of Operation Chromite.AI let defenseless unit expose to enemy forces, make them get destroyed without…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to think this was a good game. The game crashed on turn 1 during the NK, card turn. I asked for support on this discussion page, and that was at the beginning of December. It is now December 30th and they still haven't responded, if I could get my money back for this piece of ♥♥♥♥, I would.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The latest QoL improvements, bug fixes and balance patches improved the game nicely. Its still a bit clunky and the AI is not great, but it for sure scratches the Korean War itch nicely. I hope more patches are comming but it is pretty good already, esp in Multiplayer, like all SGS games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried playing as the UN, but the Confused Order card bugged my game out and I couldn't play further than that. ♥♥♥♥ this game, don't buy it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worst war game ever. It is impossible to understand the game. The way the computer does supply is that all the computer's units are in supply, all the players units are out of supply.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if play korean language, can't fight.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the bugs are just furious, from units not able to move properly (often times i need to retry multiple times just so i can move), to games being completely stuck just because the AI played a card that requires selecting a unit and it just wont select, and there it goes my save, nothing i can do about it. also found another comment reporting the same bug years ago, its 2026 now, still not fixed. its a game breaking bug, come on. absolutely will not recommend, and not buying any games from the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has some bugs that seems unfinished or even untested(moving/dragging A unit but actually B unit being moved), but this is just fine. The most game breaking for me is related to battle: 1. You can not see enemy quantity and quality. You can only see one enemy icon representing there is enemy, but due to stackable pieces and strengths of individual unit, you don't know what you are facing, meaning unknown for enemy unit name, remaining strength, how many units does enemy have stacked.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A rather in depth little game that's rough round the edges. But for what it is really replayable and quite enjoyable once you get past some of the games obscurities.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. An excellent history lesson on the Forgotten War,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The system is very interesting and different than other games. Also never played anything in Korea so that was a nice novelty. I played as NK and it was really a cakewalk. I just pushed straight down the road network, no enveloping maneuvers. I did mind the air and spent quite a lot of reinforcement points on fighters even though they are expensive -- also giving breaks to re-build. Hard to say if mattered, but possible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SGS is the King of historical strategy games!! Initially I bought this game soon after it first came out and then refunded it after about an hour of playtime even though I loved all of the art and photography elements. I couldn't figure out how it worked and it seemed too superficial for my tastes. I was also afraid that the game would try to force an historical outcome with the card system but I was later to discover that the player is free to be creative with their approach and develop…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy turn-based strategy games that are historically accurate, this game is for you. This is probably the only modern game that offers a historically accurate campaign set during the Korean War, making it unique.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've some mixed opinions about the game. It has very addicting one more turn nature and historically good researched in this scale. But unfortunately AI is somewhat lacking. I've also got their Tapping rebellion game let's see how that one goes. It would be easier to recommend this game if more active pbem community. But they have to work AI in long term for their games. Purchase only in discount.
