60 of 117 · most liked firstI think the game is pretty fun. It's like "RISK the Boardgame, Superdeluxe Edition" or something like this. This is NOT a big wargame and anyone who expects something deep like Gary Gigsby or the likes will be severly dissapointed. The game plays very slow, each turn is in phases and because theres a (quick) animation between the phases the overall pace drops severely. This is added by the battles being in phases as well, also with both popups and watching the 10-sided dice go. A single battle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game. It has great graphics and some really good game concepts. I like the use of cards in this game. Unfortunately, the AI is one of the dumbest I've ever encountered. I attack one of its stacks with a much larger one of my own and easily defeat it, forcing it to take losses and retreat. On its next turn it will attack my same superior stack with its same depleted stack in what can only be described as a suicidal death wish. This occurs regularly no matter what…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was super excited for this to come out, but the pricing model is just awful. $99 for everything is to much in my option for this game. Some of the scerseiros are basiclly copy and pasted, its not worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the concept of having one game that can simulate essentially all conflicts troughout our history seems like an appealing concept at first sight, it also very much brings down the game-mechanics to a very low form of simplicity due to the sheer scope of it all. The gameplay consists of turnbased movement and dicerolls during combat, certainly inspired by board-games. With serveral different useless phases for each side, where one has to spam next turn to progress the game. The complete…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game review to have any meaning, I think it is important to know something about the reviewer. I am a wargamer with an open mind and hundreds of digital games in my collection. You know, Matrix, SSG, HPS, Battlefront, etc. I also don't play boardgames. So odds are I should not be very excited about this game, but I am. If you are considering it, go with the Expanded Edition, as the extra $5 is well worth it. And don't be put off by the paid DLC below. There is enough content here to last…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played this game consistently over the last weeks and got myself addicted to it. The gameplay is simple but yet hides quite a few challenges and a lot of depth. The art is great, and reminds me a lot of the original Ageod games, but, most of all, of the nice boardgames I am found of. The AI does a good job, and although not a genious, managed to surprise me quite a few times. I am really hooked at the realm of possibilities the engine offers, especially now that I have used the editor…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Full disclosure: Kickstarter backer tl;dr: Good base engine, but my recommendation varies based on the actual scenario you are looking to play. Some are worth it, some aren't. Starting with the bad first: The devs have admitted to have blundered a bit in their pricing and DLC policy, which is true, but their admission goes to their credit. The scenarios are a bit uneven in quality, with some (e.g. Berlin) being pretty interesting from a tactical/strategic standpoint, while others (e.g.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting concept and the scenarios I have played thus far have been fun. Good light wargame entertainment marred by some bugs. The developers are reacting swiftly to the bugs and other matters relating to the game and that is impressive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy this game so far, but its way too expensive in my opinion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought it was going to be a good game as well. I was dissapointed alas, and it looks very pricy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will try to be nice but I think this game has not been playtested at all... I started with Hastings and then i got stuck in the siege bug (reload then siege will work) Then I played normandy and the game started getting very laggy mouse gets slow so I restart then its Ok again. Then I get to some reinforcement that i need to allocate on a particular area I do it and then I get stuck just like the siege thing-- I only tried to play 2 scenarios and then I gave up. No one has tested this for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very happy now. The game was slightly expensive to start with so I bought the Expanded pack after the price was reduced. I found the tutorial pretty simple so I managed to play very quickly. I like the fact that as soon as you understand how to play with the tutorial or a first game, you can then play with any other scenario/conflict. I will ask them to create the battle of Agincourt ;-)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frankly, I had some difficulty learning the game at first. After struggling with both the Quick Start guide—which omitted some critical information—and the Tutorial, where things often did not seem to work as expected, I decided to sit down and read the full War Across the World manual. The manual is over 100 pages long and contains a fair amount of repeated information, sometimes with additional details that were not mentioned in earlier sections. While it took some effort to work through, it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent Board / Card Game. One set of rules which are well produced and balanced allows you to play any war , battle or skirmish since the dawn of time ( and beyond ). Easy to learn with a new battle released monthly. Must for wargamers and BG, CG fans. 8\10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another game i start to like then after a few hours ( not able to refund) i realise it is not very good - crazy RNG which is typical now of combat games involving dice results (but i can live with) and broken content which really winds me up - Example : Playing a difficult scenario and manage to capture all cities and then the capital is in my grasp, move my units into capital to besiege, wait for siege results nooooooo nothing happens, next turn comes and try to move my units nooooooo they do…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game and it's concept, the graphics, sounds, and operational warfare throught the ages. I HATE this game for all it's inconsistency, its glitches, it's incompleteness, poor rules, worse card descriptions and effects, terrible effort by devs to fix issues MANY here have presented etc. I guess that what you get for it's CHEAP price. BTW.. have the STEAM achievements been disabled? I have fulfilled many of the requirements, YET have NOT been awarded ANY since March of this year. IF…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 A shallow boardgame with a crazy DLC approach. In the base game there are something like 10 scenarios which do not necessarily have much appeal. Game dynamics are flexible but pretty basic. The game would be worth something like 5 Euros only if all the DLC were included for free. Now it is a cash grabber. Don't make a error like I did, skip this game, there are better cheap options around. As a reply to the developer: First: I bought the game for 7.5 Euros, so your statement is a lie.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A medium complexity stratgey game with DLC covering some properly obscure theaters? Sign me up! Unfortunately, the fundamental promise of this game is ruined by some glaring ommissions that should have been cleaned up before the DLC onslaught. For starters, the tutorial seems bugged. Even if you're able to complete it (I wasn't), it doesn't seem to teach you everything you need to know. The in-game manual is a basic, out of date PDF without hyperlinks that doesn't seem to be updated anymore.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a start, even if I turn the sound down or off, it keeps playing at the loudest level. However that's not the half of it. Half the scenarios are unplayable as one particular side. For example, the Hamilkar scenario is unwinnable as Rome because the Carthaginian fleets just mob up and wipe your own off the map in the first few turns. Next, the enemy always ignores stacking limits and movement blocks and merrily marches past you to shut off your supply, causing entire stacks to die without a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too many convoluted and overly complicated mechanics. Did the tutorial twice, still don't understand how it works.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting game mechanics. The interface gives the feel of playing a actual board game and rolling the dice. I like the way the mechanics flow well between the periods. So, you can switch between different eras and only a few if any game mechanics are different. However, those few differences are useful in the capturing the major historic differences between ages. The game does come with an editor although not all of the scenarios are editable. I wish they included the files needed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First try at the game...I love it. Reminds me of the good days where you could enjoy games with original subjects, simple gameplay and still some challenge in your strategy. I am eagerly waiting for the editor, I foresee dozens of subjects and themes I would love to tackle. The engine looks like it offers many possibilities while still being easy to grasp. Good work lads. And don't worry for the whinning on prices. Yours is not 'cheap', but still reasonable compared to some products we can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay is OK but there are a lot of divisions to your turn that can get a bit tiresome. Found a bug where my game of Hastings 1066 would not end!!! Can be expensive to get all the downloads. Could be really great if turn mechanism was tidied up. Hope this is considered constructive criticism rather than dislike of the game. The ideas and basics are good just needs a bit more work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting game system. There is sort of one set of rules but as can be seen from the manual the rules are very extensive so as to cover the wide range of time and scale of battles. So this isn't like the Avalon Hill wargames in the 60s (my first games). Along with lots of rules nuances, the cards are a critical element that provide much of the battle specific flavor and uncertainty that helps replay value. And it isn't real obvious, but every battle has a 2 or 3 page pdf file in that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At one point I actually uninstalled this game and asked for a refund. The tutorial was aggravatingly unintuitive. The game I played locked up during the opposing player's turn and I waited and waited. I was done. I uninstalled and asked for a refund. I kept thinking wow what a great game concept I wish that it would just work. I read a couple of the reviews and found I wasn't alone. I tried watching some of the Youtube vids. While mostly in French, some were in English and I thought some people…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WaW is a good buy. I enjoy the diversity of the available scenarios. Most of these can be played in less than two hours. Many scenarios reflect asymmetric situations and are fun to play. Rules are easy to learn (provided you care enough about wargames to read them). Playing 2-3 games is enough to understand the mechanics of WaW but there will be a learning curve ahead, which is good. WaW' team has proved to be very reactive to players' appreciations. More than 150 hours already and I am…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a fan of the AGEOD games and this is that but somewhat more easy to digest, it plays a lot faster as well. The strategy is most definitely here and the possibility to create and play any type of Scenario from Ancient to Modern to Futuristic makes this a game to really treasure. The scenarios themselves are short and can be completed in under two hours in most cases. With that said I would have liked to see some bigger scenarios with longer turns (now it goes to max 25 turns I believe). In…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was an early backer from Kickstarter and I decided to support this project because it looked promising to me. The amount of scenari can give you hours of game and even if you only have 6 scenari. You can play different nations, you can play with friends in hot seat, etc. then, you can only choose what you what to buy. The editor could let you create your own scenario. Can't wiat for the manual because I still don't understand how it works ! Maybe some video tutorial about it could be fun.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice wargame that use a systemic structure similar to a classic Cosim boardgamegame (wargame). Area movement, dice roll combat, command, suply, reinforcements, event cards, etc Interesting obscure campaigns across military history, from ancient times to modern wars. The downside is the Very weak AI. Hope to see improvement in this issue or else at risk of losing interest.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although built on a simple platform, the game allows many scenarios which varies game content. PbEM gives one a great plus to the series!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple and solid game. The versatile engine allows for a wide variety of scenarios. The AI is sometimes weak but it's playable against other humans.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I keep changing my mind on this. The game could be fantastic. It is held back by it's outrageous DLC cost and bugs. I'm really hoping that both these issues get sorted.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having a universal system to play a variety of scenarios and historical settings is great. The available scenarios are varied, and will appeal to a broad range of military history enthusiasts. Right now, a number of niche scenarios and wars are covered. The game looks and plays like a classic boardgame, with different phases going step by step. I like turn-based wargames as they leave time to think about the next moves, and also because I could adapt the pace to my preferences of the moment…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've used this game to teach Army field grade officers in the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officers' Course. We've used both the Austerlitz 1805 and Waterloo 1815 modules.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great series of not too complicated war games on a variety of interesting and unusual topics - most can be played in two hours and give useful historical insights into the conflicts they portray. In my mind, these are the spiritual successor to the SPI Strategy and Tactics magazine games of the 1970's, which provided provided a unique window into interesting and/or unfamiliar historical events at a reasonable price point.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easy to learn and yet it can be surprisingly challenging. Historically accurate and the graphics are great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game .... and I did. AI in most games suck. WAW not more than most others. Too easy for you ? Don't flare your nostrils and declare it not fit to oppose your brilliant strategic mind. Give yourself a house rule restriction or 2 and make it more challenging. We'll all then be very impressed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I saw some discussion of this game and was intrigued by its undertaking. I wondered how well it would translate to all eras across all conflicts. The price for the basic package was pretty inviting so I took a chance on it. I first played the Saratoga 1777 "battle" (the campaign rather than a battle actually) and I wasn't sorry for my purchase at all. I was a little confused by the mechanics initially and I just learned by doing. I did well enough as the British by marching Burgoyne down to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game when it was published, and have most of the DLCs (Mac and windows version). It is a fascinating new concept - making an engine adaptable to conflicts in all mankind ages. It works. The engine rules adapt to almost any kind of conflict, from roman ages to modern times, it can handle air and naval warfare satisfactorily, with event and decision cards that provide key ingredients to simulate each specific context. Unfortunately the AI was sorely lacking in capabilities. But…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For those that tried Ageod's games and found them too complex and slow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well worth the money. Each game gives a different feel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good Game. Think of the day old days with a board game, a 6 pack of beer, a pizza, a couple of your buddies, and a cigar. The game is not at a Gary Grigsby level, the AI is pretty weak, but they pulled off a real coups by making 1 game cover 2000 years of fighting with really different weapons and modes of making war, something tried before with generally poor results. I wouldn't call it very accurate historically, but it's fun and game doesn't take 3 days to finish. Spikew
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short, very tailored historically interesting events. Fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty fun counter/hex based traditional wargame system transported to videogame. The DLC allows you to pick the scenarios that appeal to you. Being big on Napoleonics I tried Austerlitz and Waterloo and I must say it is quite fun. To traditional style wargamers this will all be common fare. At a discount well worth picking up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wars across the World is a turn-based strategy game with easy-to-grasp rules that shines when it comes to simulating very specific campaigns that normally get ignored by more mainstream wargames. - Interested in the Spanish Civil War of 1936? Check! - Maybe the First Anglo-Afghan War of 1842? Check! - Want to play the Israeli Six Days War of 1967? You got it! - Or what about the Battle of Morat, decisive climax of the Swiss-Burgundy War of 1476? Here we go! The game might not be perfect,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lovely artworks (I like that counters, all of them), gameplay fast and easy, refreshing new mechanics. Versatile engine and enough to ensure replayability and variety of escenaries. Not a complex title, but enjoyable due to how fast you can play. Not tested multiplayer but most probably this part will be the best part, playing against a human player could be truly challenging compared to any AI. This game is a must.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quick, Fun game with many different scenarios to play
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just got this today and im happy with the purchase. The tutorial does have some kind of issue with it that prevented me from finishing it , however the rule book helped make everything more clear , and it wasnt long before i was in my first game . Being a Lovecraft fan I of course went with the Innsmouth scenario which lets you play out the raid on innsmouth from the famous story , you command the american forces or the Mythos forces , I had a blast with it ! and it was a close scenario ! The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clunky but admirable, a less complex AGEOD engine for newer or simpler wargamers. The most desperately needed feature is an undo button, as a mistake means either letting it happen or reloading a save, perhaps even at the start of the turn, and the autosave often overwrites the save you just used! Encirclements should have variable out-of-supply times based on the scenario's time scale and era as well- 2 days is not long enough for an entire Soviet army group to die out, even if it helped me…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →War Across the World is an amazing game that depicts the essence of many historical battles quite well. It is a serious board game engine that allows players to simulate practically any battle or skirmish in the world history. Actually it can do much more. With the use of editor you can recreate any type of struggle that involves map zones, card play, dice and player sides. For example, with the use of editor you can actually create a scenario that has nothing to do with the war in itself - you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good learning experience for beginners in Historical Campaigns. Although, expert historical gamers like myself somewhat enjoy this game to learn about campaigns we did not know much about before, I feel the game is better suited for someone wanting to learn about a particular campaign. Having said that, I do enjoy this as an expert historical gamer. The reason for it being better suited torwards a beginner versus experts is that the game is very simple to learn and play. Read the rules though…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wonderful and easy to play game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite buggy at times but i still like it, a lot
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice card driven strategic/operational level wargame. The engine is quite flexible, because it is relatively abstracted. Most scenarios oare handled through special rules and their own set of cards. I didn't encounter any bug, and it took me around 2 hours to complete the Norman campaign without any prior knowledge. I'll update my review after playing more, but I am only interested in ancient to musket era conflicts. I wish the scenario packs were a bit more thematic.

I do enjoy the game when it works which is why i play it from time to time but wouldn't recommend unless you enjoy this type of game and specific times it is set in
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So many conflicts to choose from! Sure, the UI is a bit limited, but it's a good romp for low cost. Beer and pretzels gaming at its finest!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Will there be an editor to mod and create your own scenarios? Thx.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An interesting light wargame. Has a lot of curious mechanics, covers many conflicts that never appear in other wargames. Hope the developers will use less known wars for new scenarios in the future too. I like the stylization of maps and interface in different scenarios to fit the atmosphere of the age. Scenarios are quite replayable and don't last too long so you can easily beat an average scenario in a couple of hours after work with a bottle of beer. I can recommend it to all fans of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pleasantly surprised. This game is far more fun than I expected. It's fairly simply as well and, generally, I'd say no game is the same as another in most scenarios. Event Cards may appear which didn't appear in a latter playthrough while in others you might get every event card but in a far more different order (which effects the game) then before. Mileage varies. On average you'll probably get 5 to 20 hours of gameplay, depending on your enjoyment. Maybe 2x that if you play every single…
