The game as a whole takes a different open world approach, if that's a good or bad thing I'll leave it up to you. However, where the previous game shines, this one is kinda meh. As I already mentioned above, this game tries to be less linear and tries to give the player more options to move…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trust me, I really really wanted to love this game, but it is worse than its predecessor Epistory - Typing Chronicles in every single possible way except that you can now move during "boss" battles: - the typing mechanic is worse, - there is no workshop support anymore, - story is worse, - upgrades and leveling up system is worse, - this one is personal preference but I liked Epistory art style much better, - the adaptive difficulty doesn't seem to work as well or at all. In Epistory it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will give this a pass, has much flaws that makes the game a sour experience like the story and how everything felt so inferior compared to Epistory, Nanotale is essentially the worst experience despite the achievements being easy to get. The game even looks unfinished and there is an annoying part where you need to rebind the keys everytime you load into the game, not being patched is why I question the people who worked on this game. I was able to play through the game without being soft…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A promising game marred by far too many bugs. There are many things to like in this game. I used it to teach myself to touch type with a new keyboard and layout, and it was very helpful for that. The adaptive difficulty works well, the lore snippets are fun. the gameplay is surprisingly complex for a typing game, the graphics look nice. The story is nothing special, but serviceable. All in all, it was a successful way to turn learning to touch type into something fun. But it's been a long…

Difficult Achievement(s): No. Intro Nanotale - Typing Chronicles is an adventure game played on a keyboard. You need to use your keyboard to type the words above the enemy's head to attack it, type the words above plants to gather it, and type highlighted words on a dialogue to talk to a fellow human. Everything is done on a keyboard. Pros: - Gameplay is easy to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To start off, the game was not a "bad" game by any means, it is just a buggy mess. The beginning half of the game was very pleasant, ran into no issues whatsoever. However, once I got to the second half of the game, I started encountering many game-breaking bugs to the point to where I had to download a developer provided save file several times throughout the game just to be able to continue. The puzzles can be downright confusing on what to do, and sometimes the game will just completely…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this one SO much since I am a big fan of Epistory, this one's predecessor, but...alas I cannot in good faith. Let's get through the positives first. Clearly the lore of the game is done with a lot of heart and love for the product so that was fun to see. It also retains the unique gameplay element of typing to fight and interact with the environment. But now come the negatives and what is even worse is that they are almost entirely technical, so could have been entirely…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent enough, but gets a thumbs down because it is in every way a step down from Epistory. Mechanics feel worse, story is eh, it is more buggy etc. It's not bad per se, just a disappointment.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get me wrong, the game is fun and has really nice tidbits of lore you get by studying the regions, but its not something I'd recommend due to some glaring issues: - controls don't save upon remap, which speaks for itself - the idea is fun, but the execution isnt done as well as the first game, where you are put on the clock to type the necessary words to defeat an enemy as quickly as possible. in this game it takes an RPG approach to deal damage instead and focus more on mana/casting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 not a fan of this new combat system vs what we had in Epistory + story + gameplay - herding sheep quest - bugs abound - got stuck three times and had to fully reload to get unstuck. well dismounting from fox get stuck in walls and rocks from time to time opened the map well i entered a battle and it got stuck open until i reset the game. this is a bug that has been reported when the game came out and its still in the game - TAB pullout MAP became way off. i left the bottom of it so if i…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought Nanotale after playing and thoroughly enjoying Epistory. At first I was really confused by the gameplay of this one, even though it's based on the same concept -- type words to attack enemies and activate spells. But the way the spells work is a little different, especially with the push and pull effects. It's not all fully explained in the game and trying to figure something out on my own was a bit frustrating. Especially in the desert area where you have to use push/pull to make the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm no game reviewer, but I have to echo the negative reviews this game has been getting. I loved Epistory, but this game has so many buggy issues. Boss fights not starting, the character getting stuck in place and having to reboot, the camera not zooming out for a boss (!!!! this meant I only had about half of the usual area to work with). All that on top of having to hunt for lore pieces to unlock abilities and a pretty obscured route made for a medium/bad experience. I could ignore rough…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing Epistory a few years ago and liking it, even though it had some flaws, but Nanotale is somehow worse in so many ways that it hurts my heart. The aesthetics of the game serve their purpose, though they are nowhere near as charming as the origami look of Epistory, and the soundtrack, story and voice acting are just there, but not terrible. What's terrible, however, is how incredibly glitchy and bugged the game is. The menu literally has a Respawn button in case you get stuck -…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used this and Epistory to learn Colemak dh, and epistory was much better. Not just for typing practice, but also for engagement. The battles in this game felt like a chore instead of exciting. The coolest potential of the magic system went basically unused. Sure, the story was better than in Epistory, but that doesn't count for much when the game isn't fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved Epistory, cleared it twice, and was looking forward to Nanotale. I've only played it for half an hour and I only have bad things to say about it, which is a pity. For one, there is no manual save function, so you have to be careful about when you leave the game. I finished the prologue, talked to the man, did a bit of exploration, and all that progress was gone in the next playthrough. Either make the auto-save a lot more frequent, or let people manually save. Atm it's just a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A step up from the predecessor of this game Epistory, Nanotale has more gameplay elements. Main quests and side quests, cutscenes and more voiced characters. Gameplay loop of Epistory felt tighter however Nanotale opens up the possibility for different strategies due to being able to move while in combat. Nanotale is more focused on puzzles. Overall this is a good game, I give extra credit since the game is actually making typing into an engaging experience. Still I have to mention issues I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall - A short typing game to waste some time on, but be prepared for bugs and an underwhelming story and characters. 3/10 Art style - Like a storybook, simply animated but strong in character. Gametime - Took about 5-6 hours to beat the game Storyline - A very simple story of a dying son and his father wanting to save him at all costs, that made it seem like a fairytale in nature when hearing it, but ultimately becomes the main focus. I was unable to really get into the story as it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A quick game that's easy to get all the achievements on. However, it's glitchy. I kept getting stuck on the environment and when fighting certain mini-bosses in a later area, the audio wasn't in sync with the actions. Also I had to change my keybindings every time I opened the game. I remember enjoying the first game, this one is just a strong meh. It just kind of ends and that's how I feel about it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easy, short, fun, and relaxing. I only ran into one bug: keybindings don’t save, so I had to switch to WASD every time I started the game. It’s a bit different from Epistory and imho a bit inferior, but still a recommended purchase if you liked that one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's okay-ish, but somehow it's even more clunkier and unstable than the first game. The writing is also pretty bad. I would really just buy the first game and don't bother with this one. Having to change the controls every time you start the game is a pain, who decided that esdf should be default for movement???
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would strongly recommend against buying this game. I would even more strongly recommend against playing it. The first game was good (Epistory). The areas opened up logically and yes there were times when you weren't sure where to go, but you eventually figured it out. Nanotale takes that confusion and multiplies it by 10. Perhaps because the novelty has worn off with the new game, but I really didn't find the story compelling. Not that these games ever had any story, but it's even more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can recommend this game but it is very big step backwards compared with original game. There are so many glitches with pathfinding and during movement that there is on purpose a Respawn option to return to last checkpoint. It is nice mechanic with spell modifiers but in general a complication that was not needed at all. Mostly used for some environment puzzles and also fighting enemy. I just didn't enjoy the game as much as first game. First game has simplicity and originality that was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know how this game was made around 5 years after the first game, Epistory. It's worse in a lot of ways. The art direction is not as interesting, the pacing is off, the levels are annoying to navigate, it performs poorly (e.g. cutscene volume is not synced with what is happening on screen), voice acting is mid, and I'm pretty sure I encountered a bug or glitch that stopped me from progressing at all. It's not without merit. I enjoy the elemental interactions in the areas, and having to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to love this game, just like I loved Epistory, but no. Controls suck so bad and the overall gaming experience was just so sucky that I ended up uninstalling the game pretty soon. I wast just so frustrated most of the time, not enjoying the game. I have many more games that I will surely enjoy and want to spend my time with.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game with my split keyboard to help practice typing on it. It was a great experience playing through it 😄 The story is fun, the visuals are great, the animals and animations are super cute. I like the game design a lot and I think the progression is nice and smooth. I also appreciate that it caters for a wide range of player types, not being punishing but remaining challenging. The only downside is that it's slightly buggy at times. You can get physically stuck in some spots. At…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just a littany of issues. I played Epistory two years ago and loved it. The animations in this don't feel as smooth, the world feels less vibrant than the old one, oddly enough, despite the forest, characters, and new enemies (kind of). The visuals are nice, but it lost the lovely "paper" feeling Epistory had, and what made it unique. The story elements were interesting, but not driven. I loved Epistory's.....story, as it felt different from every other game I've played. It was like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a huge step down from Epistory. I read that none of the current devs worked on Epistory - I'm not sure if that means that no Epistory devs worked on Nanotale at any point of its development, but it wouldn't surprise me. It just feels like a poor imitation of the game it's "spiritually succeeding". The game is a buggy mess - the fact that there's a dedicated respawn button in the menu specifically designed for when you get stuck in walls or similar glitches tells you all you need to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely don't recommend this game. It doesn't even start up, an issue which lots of people have had problems with. All it did for me was run the splash screen, then crash. It also crashes the entire Steam client and sometimers mucks up the display of the Windows desktop. The community discussion page says, "Posting privileges: Only group moderators and officers are allowed to post in this forum." ... I assume that such an abnormally large number of people were posting bug reports,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nanotale - Typing Chronicles has a simple gameplay idea: explore the land to find animals, plants and other noticeable things, learn new magic elements by that and type the words on the screen to use your magic or interact with those. It's understandable and well paced throughout the game. Also, it has some puzzles parts, where you have to use the correct element to move forward or to take on certain enemies. The story is interesting, but I find the ending a bit rushed. Graphics is pretty good,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nanotale - Typing Chronicles is a typing game. Both Epistory and Nanotale are relatively fun games and I adore typing games, but wow is this one infinitely buggy. I just finished the campaign and frankly, I am disappointed. The music and the graphics are really great, the story is good, everything is fine... But QA your games please! I started this game four years ago and stopped playing for a reason I can't remember. Coming back to it I decided to start fresh and I can see some reasons I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game doesn't let you like it no matter how hard you try. At first it seems okayish Once you reach second 30% , you receive a bug where you start getting 1. Dying between switching locations. 2. Movement getting stuck. Once you reach third 30%, it starts also 1. Getting minimap stuck on screen (temporarily removable y holding map key instead of usual behaviour). 2. Camera gets stuck while switching locations, the "respawn" button does nothing to fix it. The whole fight mechanic of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it was pretty good for a typing game, and i had fun playing it despite losing sight of where i was supposed to go a couple of times, but then my game locked partway through the final chapter, and i cant even start a new game because it gives me a purple screen instead of the start screen. reinstalling didnt fix it, restarting didnt fix it, deleting all the files didnt do anything. rip my attempt to 100% this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game with some FLAWS: - ESDF to control movement is anti-user friendly, we need WASD control, there is no way to save the settings locally, have to re-configure every time I play the game. - Encountered 2 game breaking bugs, have to restart from check points, other than that it's a good game. - UI can get stuck if you die while mini map is ON. - Audio mix is poor. Consider it's a small indie game and the game play is great, still a good game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nanotale - Typing Chronicles is an awesome game with a cool concept that is a lot of fun and challenging. It's very similar to Epistory, has pretty graphics, an interesting story and great controls. Some of the typing can get quite intense if you are not proficient at typing. Really fun game! Highly recommended
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The end of the game just ruins the experience for me and I'm glad I only paid $5 for this. So, the story is nonsensical and studying plants will sometimes throw names of people at you that you haven't even met yet, so that's pretty lazy. Characters essentially are just trying to get you from point A to point B; there's no reason to care about any of them and none of them really have any emotions to them. The usual gameplay loop is pretty fun, though, and there are definitely some clever…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love how easy the game is to play. I am not much of a fast typist, so I do like that I am able to take my time on certain words that come up during the game that need to be typed out. The game is easy to pick up and very addicting. I love the fact that I am able to play a game but also able to practice my typing skills on top of that. For anyone who is looking at honing their typing skills, or looking for something for your kids/grandkids to practice their typing, I highly recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall a fun game but with some frustrations. The gameplay is standard adventure fare with RPG elements mixed in (leveling up, gain skills). The music is decent and works with the areas and situations. The art style is well done and has a storybook type feel thought the simplistic graphics lend it a mobile game type aesthetic. It won't tax your GPU, but there were some instances where the fans on my card revved up quite a bit. In one such occasion, they didn't slow down until a little bit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Right before playing this, I played its "spiritual predecessor" Epistory, and I think you should read that review first @ https://steamcommunity.com/id/Yoodiv/recommended/398850?snr=1_5_9__402 This one is pretty similar. Overall worse, but still worth playing if you get it cheap. Controls - also pure typing Visuals - no more papercraft awesomeness, this is pretty but nothing special. Map is much improved, but no more fast travel. Story - same/worse, unrelated to the first game but same…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, the first game was better then this one. This is WAY to RPG focused. I want a typing game, not an RPG. The battles in this one are either boring or very hard with nothing in between.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Epistory Typing Chronicles Nanotale Typing Chronicles Two of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played and they help up your typing skills. #IndieGame #Epistory #Nanotale @fishingcactus.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →This game takes what worked well in Epistory and improves every system, from the depth of the story, to the control you have over your spells, to how much freedom you have during combat... and the result is that doing so exposes all it's flaws. A deeper story reveals how boring the story is. Having more control over spells reveals how terrible typing is as an interface for spell casting. Freedom in combat changes the strategy in combat enough that it becomes less about typing speed and more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the new features were interesting, the bugs and performance were a huge step down from Epistory. It was basically unplayable using custom keybindings to match the control scheme from the previous game. I liked the way combat changed and the expanded story was interesting, as far as I got.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a very wholesome typing game with a cute story. The ability to cast spells by typing certain words in and out of combat allows for solving some interesting puzzles and cool combos. Go play it, that is, if you can deal with potentially clipping/falling/getting stuck in terrain roughly every 5 minutes (there is a respawn feature, that lets you continue from the last( thankfully frequently occuring) automatic save points. This is definitely the coolest way to sharpen up typing skills.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's impossible to review this game without comparing it to its predecessor, Epistory. Good points: - The new skills and puzzle system lead to some interesting mechanics. This game does provide some fun figuring out how to combine abilities in order to unlock multiple parts of the map. - The art and music looks gorgeous. - Cataloging the environment is reasonably fun. Bad points: - Different skills don't seem to make that much of a difference in battle. - The leveling system doesn't seem to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is tragic, a lot worse than the previous title. Everything is a level down compared to the prequel. To put it shortly - story is boring and not engaging at all, mechanics are broken and optimization is hilarious. Game should work perfectly on any specs and its lagging and not working properly on hardware much stronger than recommended. Big setback and its really sad, because first game in this series was really good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played and completed both Typing Chronicles games now. I recommend them both but I preferred this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, massive improvement over Epistory (which I also liked a lot btw). It feels much more polished. The story is more straightforward but with still some mystery and intrigue and the puzzle parts definitely take some brainpower at some points. The art is also really nice and wow the music is amazing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nanotale isn't as good as its predecessor Epistory in my opinion - so why still give it a positive review? There's nothing wrong with the game and I quite enjoyed my time with it. I'll recommend it to anyone who enjoys typing games and except for some frustration navigating the puzzles in the third area of the game, which might've been on me, it was a smooth ride with some enjoyable visuals. I want to give it a positive review because I applaud the developers effort to change up the formula.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. Lack of minimap (have to hold tab for it to display) 2. Lack of information for certain quest 3. Lack of information on what you can do with certain spells Just these 3 alone made the game absolutely unbearable to play. I love Epistory, and thought I would like this one. But it is SO FRUSTRATING to still not understand what I'm suppose to do after running around the map for hours. They have waypoints in your map to show you where you are suppose to go, but it is very unclear even after…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems like a good game from what I have seen so far. However, its definitely buggy. I have found very regularly if you have dialogue with a character, it will not let you go to the next text box or close the text. Every single time it happens i have to reset my character and respawn. I avoided talking to any characters due to that but some arent avoidable as their text pops up on the screen when you walk up to them.

Pretty easy to get lost in it, but it's still really fun regardless, especially if you really enjoy typing games.
unlabelledView post →I was thoroughly enjoying it, more than I liked Epistory as I liked the mechanics a bit more, but then I ran into the Western Guardian bug that has apparently been there since release and hasn't really been fixed. If this could be fixed so that I can finish it and can recommend to others, that would be great, but given it's track record, I cannot.

Nevermind the bruhv story, the downgraded combat, the absolute messy hitboxes, the desert layout, the lack of content (just go there and analyze X plant). THIS GAME IS FULL OF BUGS. From start to finish. I had to download a DEV SAVE FILE to be able to complete it. I'm talking about the Desert Hand Guardians. They would just sit there, not spawn any enemies, and locked my progression. I literally couldn't count how many times I had to press the "Respawn" or…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game honestly left much to be desired and felt a bit disappointing after previously playing it's predecessor, Epistory. The story wasn't anything particularly amazing or profound, which would've been okay if not for the MULTITUDE of bugs and glitches I ran into which often had me needing to either re-enter the main menu, or completely relaunch the game. Not to mention some mechanics just didn't seem to work for me at all, and every time I would re-open the game, all my settings and keybinds…
