Project Zomboid is an upcoming survival video game developed by British and Canadian independent developer The Indie Stone. The game is set in 1993 in the post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested exclusion zone of the fictional Knox Country (formerly Knox County), Kentucky, in the United States. The player is challenged to survive for as long as possible before inevitably dying. In 2011, two laptops containing the game's… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

First of all, if you have never played this game, it is one of the best zombie survival and you should try it. I have played PZ since it's release, I have close to 3000 hours in the game but most of that time isn't recorded on steam. It's a fun game and you should try it. But I'm still going to leave a negative review. Why? Let's delve in. This game has been in Early access for over 12 years, the devs have made millions in sales, that in itself is not a problem as long as the game is being…

As a former employee of The Indie Stone who worked on the game for 5 years, it appears this company is in the midst of a major restructuring. Several senior members of the team who have been present for years, and contributed major aspects to the game's current design, have been let go in quick succession, under the purview of a small group of recently-hired developers from the AAA industry that were brought on. I believe the purpose of this restructuring is to make the company leaner and…

This game is the equivalent of key lime pie. The people I know who played it are split about 50/50 on whether or not they love it or actively dislike it. I believe it is truly one of the greatest games ever made (and continues to be made). The issue, I believe, lies in the fact that this game is a "story generator," much like Rimworld. It could be illustrated as the difference between playing with legos or playing a board game. There are no points, and there is no point. To give an…

Anyway new topic. For no particular reason, what's your favorite game where sandbox-style play generates stories for you to tell your friends? Thinking of everything from Dwarf Fortress, to Project Zomboid, to Kerbal, to CK2, to Darkest Dungeon, or even the old X-COM 2 streams Rob and I did.

I've been following Project Zomboid since the very beginning, but after over 10 years in Early Access, I can no longer recommend or support this game. The developers have had more than enough time to deliver a complete, compelling experience, yet the game still feels like an unfinished skeleton held together almost entirely by the modding community. The base game has grown stale. Without mods, there's simply not enough meaningful content, depth, or fresh gameplay to keep it interesting…

So many half baked, forgotten, or other wise abandoned features its insane. Current """"""""""stable"""""""""""" build is a mess, even after 5 years of "internal QC", "Third party firm QC", and beta test branches. Modders are keeping this game playable, IE the ladder climbing mod as the current build overhauled the entire map with broken buildings and nonfunctional ladders; and the mod that turns the 20kg anvil that's been in the game for years that (somehow) does not function as an anvil with…

There is a learning curve and you will consider refunding the game. It is not the game it is your fault. you're running too much and making bad choices. Started development in 2011, hit Steam in 2013, and here we are in 2026, still in early access. At this point, it’s less like buying a game and more like investing in a family heirloom. Can’t wait for my grandkids to log in one day and enjoy the exact same early access I paid for.

======> GAMEPLAY <====== At first, I was completely obsessed with this game. I spent hours upon hours playing through it, both solo and with friends. As we learned how to survive and last longer, we began to understand the game’s systems and mechanics more deeply. However, the more experienced we became, the more we noticed the lack of engaging endgame content. The early stages are enjoyable—grinding, looting, clearing areas—but once you fully understand the core mechanics, the excitement…

(Build 42 review) Project Zomboid could be the most immersive zombie survival game out there, and it does feel very thrilling to play, at least initially. They nailed the atmosphere, the earlygame struggle and the moments of respite when you finally find a safe place to spend the night, or when you start setting up a base. There's also some mods and it's a decent Co-op game. It has a large map, and certainly enough content to entertain you for more than a hundred hours. It doesn't have great…

Project Zomboid is a fun game and a great multiplayer experience, but the state of the game and the intentions of the developers lead me to not recommend it. Zomboid is NOT an "early access" game. It has been in development for over a decade, it has merchandise, and its developers are clearly showing disinterest in working on it anymore. The early access tag was slapped onto the game because the developers don't comprehend that you can have a full release for a game and keep updating it, so…

Meaning, this is one of those games you play for 1 hour and never touch again, or you end up spending hours each day, exploring the map and hunting resources while trying to avoid the Zed's. This game is hardcore even on the easiest difficulty setting. I died because I had extreme panic inside my own house due to claustrophobia. This prevented me from sleeping, which led to extreme fatigue. I went outside to find some alcohol to calm down, fell asleep on the street, and got eaten. The realism is off the charts. Finally, a game that accurately simulates my life choices.

I’ve played it solo, online co-op, LAN co-op, vanilla, and heavily modded, pretty much every way possible, and it has always been fun. It’s one of those games where dying a million times is part of the experience, because that’s how you learn. And just when you think you’ve figured everything out, a new build comes out and gives you even more to discover. No matter how I play it, it never gets old. Easy 10/10.

Alright guys, I’ve been playing this game since the very first available build back in 2011 (14 years? 15?). And my Steam counter probably shows at best one tenth of the actual time I’ve spent in it. Every now and then I would take a break, but usually you don’t really stop until your character survives at least a year. This time I decided to take it more seriously.
