What a delightful game this was! Totally unique in it's concept. The closest I've seen is in Epistory Chronicles which has a RPG element to it and recently Lost Words. Both great games in their own right. Heavily influenced by Japanese culture and linked to their famous blossom trees, this game uses a pop-up book concept to literally unfold the story. Your character lives in this pop-up book and is on a quest to renew his tree again. You travel into 4 different environments and solve easy…

Short point and click puzzle game with pop-up book aesthetics. It takes only an hour to beat. The gameplay is very slow paced and not particularly exicting. There isn't any story really, it's just you as a samurai roaming around and finding cherry blossom leaves to put them on a dead tree. I'm giving it a thumbs up because I never played anything like this, otherwise the game is boring and lacks content but for like 50 cents it's fine, especially if you want quick 100% completion.

Nice little game, with beautiful and soft background music, interesting mechanics ( especially the folding parts ) and simple puzzles. Best part of the game are its hand drawn ( i assume ) background images. Only negative part in my opinion is the slow pace with which the character is moving. Plot is on the much weaker side. Length is about an hour and it includes 4 easy achievements that can be obtained just by completing the game. Tried it on the Steam Deck and it runs alright, however it…

Tengami is a very pretty and unique game but there is not really a story or interesting puzzles to give it depth. You want or sail very slowly through the -admittedly very beautiful- world, you have to do a lot of back and forth to overcome obsicles and solve "puzzles". The "puzzles" are mostly solved through trial and error or matching symbols. It took me about 45 minutes to complete, but the content would have fitted in 15 minutes, if the walking speed was quicker or the distances shorter.…

Beautiful paper world inspired by Japanese art and folklore. This game is a masterpiece of origami...Darn, slow as origami itself. The music is so soothing...I fell asleep. The puzzles are easy as pie...except when they're not. The story is short and sweet...like a haiku. The protagonist moves so slowly...It taught me patience. I folded my laptop in half trying to solve the last level. --------------------------------------------------------- You can skip this if you have better games to…

*Conditional recommendation* It has NO SAVE. So it has to be played through in one sitting. But it's beautiful, and different, and peaceful. Not a lot of content, so you need to go into it with the right frame of mind for something slow - and lovely. The lack of a save was a major downer for me and left me quite disappointed. Because I'm a slow player, and the game is slow and very beautiful - I would have liked it much, much better if I could have taken my own sweet time over it. As is - I…

A hesitant recommendation as I am more lenient on indie games. Play if you're looking for a short point-and-click casual game with great art and music. Game is carefully put together with a clear message from the dev. I enjoyed the animation. Works well on Windows 11. You will get the cheevs as you play along, no grinding. However, the slow walking speed is a turn-off for me.

It's pretty but there being no way to walk faster, and how far you need to walk between things really makes it drag on. It's better if the pretty game lets you stop to admire as you wish rather than forcing a slow walk. 1h20min playtime of mostly walking. >_< I like pretty (and am known to stop for screenshots in games) but unfortunately the pace of this was painful.

A game with an absolutely lovely art style that is sadly a bit boring and it involves way too much slow walking around. I also somehow managed to get myself stuck and unable to move anywhere at some point so I had to restart from checkpoint and lost some progress which is not great. Such a shame, I really wish it was better.

It's kind of obvious in retrospect that it's a mobile port, something I didn't know before purchasing it. The "drag one glowing thing at a time" gameplay comes across as overly simplistic on PC and the lack of clarity between what is set dressing and what is an interactable (eg. decorative "stairs" that look exactly the same as the climbable stairs) makes it feel a bit too janky for me to enjoy as a simple turn-off-your-brain kind of game. The choppy animations feel more like a programming…

Took about an hour and 20 minutes to complete. 20 minutes or less in the puzzles, and some of them were just trial and error due to a lack of clues prior. The rest was just clicking to make the character move. Beautiful art style but the music felt out of place. Neat concept, but not worth the time.

I was immediately drawn in by the art style of this game and was very excited to play it. Although Tengami is indeed beautiful and has a gorgeous soundtrack (which I was very happy to find on Spotify as well!), the game itself is a bit of a disappointment. There doesn't seem to be much of a story, and many of the puzzles lack both clear logic and directions, leaving you floundering to figure out what exactly you are supposed to do. A real shame, because the concept of a picture book puzzle…

Tengami is a cute, serene, short game where we follow a lonely man through a paper world in a search for lost petals of dying sakura. The inspiration in Japanese culture is visible in every aspect of the game, be it visuals, music, or overall mood, and it works pretty well. Moving around is slow, but thanks to the shorter length of the game (you can complete it in one sitting) it doesn't turn into frustration. You will feel like you are actually reading a book as you need to flip the paper…

A beautiful game, mixture of pop-up book and papercut art. The music is wonderful, though there's no actual lines or story being told in the game, I have something developing in my mind like life is a journey it has hardship as well as beautiful moments sort of thing, nothing creative but when the tree blossoms at the end I feel touched. Maybe just seeing the unnamed protagonist travelled so long and alone has finally found peace made me happy. Japanese culture is well presented. As soon as I…

If the idea of a Japanese-themed origami pop-up book sounds like a good idea for game, then you should check out Tengami. It's more of a walking simulator than a point and click adventure game, featuring only light puzzle elements. The real selling point is the art, which is consistently great through the whole game. David Wise, best known for his work on the Donkey Kong Country games, also provides an atmospheric soundtrack. It's very short and can be finished in less than an hour, which…

A meditative puzzle-adventure set inside a beautifully crafted Japanese pop-up book. It follows a nameless hero through a 2.5D papercraft world, folding pages and manipulating the scenery to restore a dying cherry tree by recovering its fallen blossoms. Blending point-and-click adventure, side-scrolling exploration and light environmental puzzles, it evokes Kentucky Route Zero and Superbrothers: Swords & Sorcery EP, yet never fully develops its inspired paper-folding mechanic. Like many others, I was attracted to Tengami by the gorgeous art design. It is so refreshing to play a game like this as a reminder of what innovation looks like. Unfortunately, the game feels like it fell short of its full potential. Tengami is an interesting game for me to discuss. For one, it's quite stunning in multiple aspects when playing it, making it a joy during your playthrough. And yet, I do find myself wanting more from the title in many facets as well. To start, the best parts of the game. Visually speaking, the game is stunning. Beautiful art expression! It is not about “beating a game”, but to enjoy the graphic style, music, some nature sounds and the experience as a whole. The downside of this game is the rhythm. It should be a bit faster to move the character, so it wouldn’t be boring sometimes moving from point A to point B (even tho we got it was intentional).
