60 of 63 · most liked firstShort version: 92% Mystery of Unicorn Castle 2 is a game that vastly surpasses the sum of its parts. The seemingly stock story, the almost-familiar level design and atmosphere, the carefully crafted hidden object scenes all come together as one of the best hidden object games on the market. Long version: Mysteries of Unicorn castle was a forgettable, old-school hidden object game that only caught interest with the challenge of some of its hidden object scenes. The official sequel, The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really do love a good hidden object game and I decided to play Mystery of Unicorn Castle: The Beastmaster because it was recommended to me. It was a fun game to play, with a decent story and good gameplay along with nice artwork and decent voice acting. Something about the game, to me, felt like it was trying to hard. Some of my issues with the title are nitpicks, and it is, overall, a solid hidden object game that I even played twice for both endings. I will state right now that you can play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun game if you like point and click. A little frustrating every time you try to get into the 'toolbox' on the lower edge it toggles between going back a room and your items. Other than that irritation with the interface the game was quite fun to play. Only got truly stumped on the game where you order numbers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best Hidden Object games on Steam. Good graphics and cutscenes, challenging puzzles, detailed map so no backtracking is needed, 4 difficulty settings, in-game achievements and other extras. The choices taken throughout the story will determine the ending and this gives this game a lot of replay value...and it's also a nice change from other titles. The HO scenes are very interesting with lots of little details moving in the background, it makes everything less stagnant.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is pretty long (which would be a good thing if it wasn't very tedious at times) and the story and soundtrack are just ok. But what actually made me give this a negative review was a game-breaking bug right at the end of the game, in which you can't obtain a key item to finish the game, and the only apparent solution to it is "starting the game all over again".
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this. It's pretty, the puzzles are decent if derivative, and the voice acting isn't bad... but it's incoherent. A modern detective is searching for a little girl who has been kidnapped to a fairy tale, magical kingdom that apparently sits squat in the middle of modern-day Earth? Ghosts inhabit medieval smithies littered with modern hardware and safety equipment? The magical-meets-modern thing has been done successfully in these games, but there isn't even an attempt at an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a surprisingly good hidden object game. Except 2 puzzles acting a bit weird I haven't encountered any other issues and unlike most HOGs it actually took me a decent amount of time to beat (about 3 and half hours, Steam didn't count my playtime correctly). What I really liked is that for some actions the game gave you the choice of of being "good" or "bad" as being able to choose is not something you usually see in this kinds of games. Works fine with Proton 7.0-4. I couldn't get it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pros - decent looking and detailed graphics - good voice acting - engaging creepy fantasy world and atmosphere - puzzles are mostly enjoyable. - story is typical but intriguing - hidden object elements are fun. - good background musics fits game's atmosphere - hint system very helpful - there is a bonus chapter - game is not short cons - some frustrating puzzles. i directly skipped them. - there are no cards and achievements
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Credit to M for throwing this game at me.) A game that was definitely worth a throw. I played it because the title was silly. Okay... I played it because it was a H.O.G. and............... I actually really liked it. The feel of this one is different from the ones I normally play. It's between newer and older games. You don't just stick to one or two areas and advance... You utilize them ALL. Not at once though. There is no backtracking needed as the map will teleport you. And well…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics are alright, the puzzles tend to be on the easier side as far as HoG/puzzle games go. The find and click puzzles, however, can be a bit difficult and contain a lot more interactive searches where you have to do extra things with objects in the picture to then find the one on the list. My biggest complaint with this game though, is how terrible the inventory is. There's no button to just bring the inventory up and scrolling over it results in it flipping out half the time and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played a decent number of Hidden Object Games now, and this is one of the better ones. It's more like a point-and-click inventory-management hybrid than a straight up HOG, with a lot of using and combining objects required, and it has a couple tough puzzles in it too. It's not *quite* as cheesy as some of these games, although there's the usual young child in danger, ancient evil to be defeated, something rusty that needs oil, and tons of lock-and-key busywork. And just look at the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GREAT game. So far i think this is one of my favorite HOG games know. This game have what none had before, and that is a choices you make .I am not gonna lie in HOG games i never seen this ,and i LOVE it. I cant believe this was not a thing before. So far the game is good, very good story ,good caracters, good puzzles, really enjoying the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this on advanced mode and it took me almost 7 hours including bonus play. Good value for money. I found this a pretty average HO game. There is replay value if you want to be a nasty person and not help anyone. Graphics were good, but HO scenes were darker and objects hard to find. I got through most without a hint, but I had to be patient! Music and storyline were adequate. The inventory was very buggy and hard to keep open at times to grab an item. If you click at the wrong…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a run-of-the-mill hidden object game. The story is generic. The music and sound design are decent. No steam achievements. There are in-game trophies. So many are missable. To get those, you may play it again (I didn't). Overall, puzzles are good. But hidden object scenes felt underwhelming. Superb fast-traveling system and the map also shows area of interest effectively. This is a collector's edition. So, you will get some bonus items like screenshots and music tracks (which can be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good hidden object game with a male detective as a protagonist - quite unusual! The story isn't anyhow groundbreaking, but still enjoyable. A young girl went missing and her trail leads to an abandoned castle where overgrown rats serving an evil wizard have their nest. The wizard wants to absorb her life energy to become immortal and the only way to stop his evil plans is to free the magical Unicorn from his stony prison! As we search for the missing girl on the castle grounds we get to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mystery of Unicorn Castle: The Beastmaster is a mobile app-like hidden object/puzzle/adventure game where you tap on your iPhone screen to locate various hidden objects in various piles of junk. There's a typical fantasy/medieval/haunted dungeon theme, ho hum. This is just more mobile shovelware being dumped on Steam to pollute the place while they make another cash grab for trash. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished in 4 hours. Decent hidden object game with a few minor puzzles to solve. Good to help you waste some time and chill. There is A LOT of going back and forth between screens once you get items to get through an area so you'll be doing a whole lot of clicking to get around. Though, overall, not too bad. If you're bored you can kill some time with this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remember, against evil only the unicorn can win, bring him back
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FUN & EASY TO USE
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game as far as hog's go. but really really needs steam intergration
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this right after playing The Wisbey Mystery, which I liked a lot, and this one is even better, because this is longer and has replay value as I'm certainly going to check what happens when you choose differently in the Karmic Choices. This is also one of the very few hidden object games I have managed to clear without using any hints in the HO scenes, mainly because items are what the list says they are. I got the game by trading away an unwanted game from a bundle, so I'm certainly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another very solid entry into the Hidden Object Game genre from 1c. The game doesn't do anything new but the graphics, sound, puzzles, and HO scenes are all well done. Once again, the game follows the "find a missing person" with "supernatural elements" thrown in, so the story is predicable and familiar too. If you like HOGs, you'll get your fix, and it you are new to the genre, it's a good entry game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love HOG games and this one will definitely be one of my new favs!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →another great example of how older HOGs are just plain better. pros. nice story with multiple paths you can toggle on and off the players voice ( first time i seen that option in an HOG game!) nice voice acting. bonus story ok gameplay time (2 and half hours for the main story and half an hour for the bonus story) ok puzzles. not hard and not easy. cons. low resolution the bonus story is too boring the bonus story has no voice acting sadly only in game achievements overall i really enjoyed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started playing, and suddenly I'm five hours in. I forgot how fun these games can be! Quick tip: if you go to the bonus option, there's a whole prequel you can play!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a wonderful game. If you are someone who prefers many puzzles to repetitive hidden object scenes, you will be thrilled with this game. Puzzles are everywhere and of great variety and difficulty. Like other Meridian 93 games, this one offers a lengthy story that is never boring and takes more that just a few hours to complete. Longer and with an upgrade of the quality of the game components makes this easily a favorite. This game accomplishes what I can only hope for in most other HOPA…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Graphics: 8/10 Artwork: 8/10 Map: navigable, with hints HOS: classic Puzzles: good, but could be more
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/8wSv3ZxNnsg Giving the player options when completing various tasks in this Hidden Object / Adventure game is a nice touch that more of these games should include. The rest of the core mechanics are solid and robust.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would have enjoyed this game much more if the Inventory Box worked correctly. It was most annoying to try to pick an item from the Inventory when it would not stay up long enough to pick the item. The rest of the game was good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100% Meh. Totally agree with Bieeanda's review. Some things are nice some things, like the invatory/go back problem should have been fixed in beta and really threw the game for me. Not too terrible, but somehow didn't touch me enough for a Yes. Again - really wish there was a Neutral button.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty good casual point-and-click adventure with hidden-object scenes and a few puzzle mini-games. The story won't win awards, but the graphics convey the feel of the world well enough, and the animations especially are a step above what you normally see in this genre. Note that though the game has achievements, they are not linked to Steam's system.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad game, not a good game, somewhere in between. It's a nice twist in the story, but not very believable. Not everything makes sence. The puzzles are nice though. I was glad the game was over, allthough I liked some parts of the game, it's just not the best.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mystery of Unicorn Castle: The Beastmaster is a gothic-themed hidden object adventure developed by Meridian’93 and published by Fulqrum Publishing that embraces classic point-and-click design within a dark fairy-tale framework. Centered on the kidnapping of a young girl named Sophie by the mysterious Beastmaster, the game invites players into a cursed castle filled with magical creatures, arcane mechanisms, and long-buried secrets. It positions itself firmly within the traditional hidden object…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it was ok..ish.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there indeed was a unicorn. However no beastmaster, instead there IS a warlock if that's alright with you. I don't know why they titled this like it's a mystery movie that'll inevitably be way more boring than the title makes it sound and didn't just call it "The Rat Warlock of Unicorn Castle: A Ritual For Immortality". Just as wordy and definitely more eyecatching. Haven't really played any hidden object games, I was recommended to check them out by a friend and picked up a few on sale. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mystery of Unicorn Castle: The Beastmaster- It's yet another Hidden Object Game, which I do always enjoy, but this one is honestly pretty subdued and dull as they go. It does arbitrarily have good/evil choices thrown in here and there though, and presumably multiple endings, so that's something.
unlabelledView post →This is a tough recommendation that I'm honestly on the fence about, but in the end I did enjoy my time with most of the game, so it earned a positive review with some big caveats. First, this game sets you loose in a fairly large map for a point-and-click adventure game, with puzzles late in the game requiring you to revisit many areas throughout the game. I really enjoyed the scope of the game. Unfortunately it feels padded with some hidden object puzzles that feel arbitrary and not fun,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sooooooo... I just put spiritual batteries charge by thunder into the a** of a unicorn turned to stone like it's a Duracell battery version of a cutie mark to beat this game...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giant rats, a unicorn, and ghosts? Sign me up this is going to be a good time. This game gives you options on how you tackle situations which in a minor way does impact the story ending or how fast you deal with a situation. The options to choose to help someone is a cool feature for a HOG even though it’s kind of funny that if you choose to deny to help you still have to do the task anyways but they just are saltier to you during it. In the settings make sure you turn on the hero's voice…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun story and puzzles, great graphics, many in-game achievements to hunt (tho sadly no steam achievements). This game is engaging and definitely worth a buy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a relaxing and interesting story line. It is nice and creepy too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. Good balance of HOS and mini-games. Collectible jack-o-lanterns. Game outcome based on karmic decisions. In game achievements. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Acquired in a bundle. Can't beat that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heavy use of the map makes this game playable. Some nice graphics, some puzzles are too long winded but overall, worth playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good story and the graphics are good but a little dark. I enjoyed it :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an ok hidden object game, the story is not that interesting. I spent 5.5 hours playing the main game plus bonus game. I skipped 1 puzzle I think because it was too annoying. The hidden object puzzles are medium with a few hard to find objects. It was great that you can jump between locations on the map. Get it while on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found this to be an interesting and, at times, intriguing game. While it follows the structure of a HOPA (Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure) game, it's a bit obtuse at times in a good way. These games are not linear so sometimes they require a leap of faith in logic, as this one does, but it has an excellent map to help you figure out your options. The story is a familiar one but there are enough plot twists to make this interpretation unique and fun. The HOP scenes are excellent, a lot more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+Good price and iteresting story. +Normal lenght 4-5 Hours. +Characters are good too. -Inventory is hell sometimes cause dont let me grab item. --No achievments or trading cards.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic, replayable
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really gd & fun game 2 play .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros +Cliché story but told well +Fun puzzles with great variety +HO scenes are detailed, high resolution and can be challenging +Visual style done well +Great atmosphere +Karma choices (good vs evil) +Fairly long game +Strategy guide included in case you get stuck Cons +No cards or Steam achievements +Dull voice acting +No voice acting in bonus chapter This is a breath of fresh air when it comes to hidden object games. The core elements from a typical HOG are here: cliché story, puzzles,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We've (my girlfriend and I on a tremendous Halloween night) spent eight thrilling hours on this game. It was an interesting experience, although there is a glitch when you put the firewood in the mouth of the big skull on the wall of the laboratory (in the crypt). We both started from fright in the first scene. A little downside was the smiley faces, just got me out of the narration. Nevertheless, we had a lot of fun on the finding objects puzzles (except at the end of our second run, it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The music is good. The story is ridiculous in a fantastic sort of way. Hidden object games aren't really my thing, but this game has made me question that decision.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: Adventure - WC - Hidden Object Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Another derivative and uninspired spooky themed hotspot inventory puzzle casualized game with hint system. Not worth the time investment.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice puzzle and hidden objects game and it actually has a story too. 100% recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really well made solid hog game, beautiful visuals , decent puzzles and quite engaging with all simple mechanics that keep it interesting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rate this 6.5/10. Nice enough game, good graphics and and simple enough to follow storyline. Great if you just want something to work through without too much thinking.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great hidden objects game, good storyline, fun to play, a lot of puzzle solving and figuring out how to use aquired objects in gameplay, Definitely recommend this game, also has rep[lay value if you want to get all of the in-game achievments
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My 5 and 11 year olds and I played this game together. It was decent and fun to play as a team. Ending could have been wrapped up better.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished playing the game and can be enjoyable in some areas and uses alot of hidden object puzzles. I liked it had karma choice which means you help the ghosts out and they help you too. Somethings made no sense in the game but that is normal in Hidden object games. The game has a detective and voice acting and got it on special for $2.14 which was nice. I think negatives are that the inventory is buggy and also hint does not reload easily takes awhile and game can feel like too much…
