I have noted a tendency for “big games” (grand tactical and strategic) to immerse the player in waves of micro detail of factory production, natural resources, weather, and cultural nuances. Why? The key element of any design is the Point of View (POV) of the player and what he has as a “span of…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to buy this game for the multiplayer, don't. Reason being, the number of players playing this game is very low. Other than that, this is a good, deep game. Quite addictive. Strategy fans would enjoy this game immensely. It is quite complicated, like the Paradox games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: +Includes extreme precision in historical accuracy around every corner +Allows for in depth nation to nation relations +Quite literally no goal set for you +Play as any nation that existed in WWI, varying from Haiti, Germany, to Abyssinia +Easily subscribe to download community made scenarios such as World 1860 (A personal favorite), Moden Day, or Alternate WWI aftermath +Without a doubt the best scenario editor I have ever seen in any game +Detailed models for soldiers, ships, and air…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, so this is pretty much a more expensive version of Calm Before the Storm. Legit, just buy Hearts of Iron 4, its better in every possible way, and worth more. Like, this game is like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mix of total war and Darkest Hour, with the added benifit of "if you spam enough, then you win". I don't know how many times I just spammed Marines and took over Germany as France. Additionally, you get the added benifit of knowing you blew 30$ that would have beeen better spent on games like Victoria…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the concept of this game. The ability to use combined arms. I spent many hours playing this game. Trying to change history and Have the central powers of Europe come on top. The gas attacks. I love it. Most games of this type are usually the same. You simply move all your units to one province and let them have at it. But this game concept allowed artillery pieces to remain in adjacent provinces and rain death upon the battlefield. This was my favorite part of the game. The game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely recommend this game. Fun, entertaining, you can easily understand the editor not to mention the amazing features. I wouldn't exactly say 100% Realistic cause the AI likes to just go all In for it, but you actually get the massive feel of alternate history, to create your own history. Having clocked 74 Hours In counting I would feel disappointed if they did not continue this series Into WWII again or even earlier to Napoleonic or eve as far back as 1776. This game Is amazing, and I…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently played through two full (serious) games as Columbia and Serbia and a partial German Campaign. I got this game cheap in a humble bundle. PC specs: Win 10, GTX 980, Intel Core i7-6700K, 16 GB RAM. Summary: An ok strategy to waste some time in if you're a World War One history buff and a grand strategy fan. Unfortunatly poor AI and performance make for a marred experiance. I'd recommend only picking this up when it's cheap and to not expect much out of it. Pros: -WW1 time…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you love paradox games you will love this. However it does lack some polish and the UI can be clunky ESPECIALLY when playing a country like the UK and you want to manage all of your colonies, it is probably the single most frustrating part of the game.

There aren't a huge number of WW1 grand strategy titles out there, and if like me you've gotta get that '14-'18 fix, you could do worse than giving this one a try when the next sale rolls around. Pros In-depth resource and infrastructure management. Addictive. It's easy for time to run away with you while playing this one. Does an admirable job of recreating the era with units, empire management and the political situation at the start of the game. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Realistic Turn based strategy game with an economy system that keeps you engaged even as a minor nation not at war. This game is very in depth but that helps to bring you into feeling how the nation really felt at the time. downside however, the in game tutorial will not show you everything you will need to know. (ie how to retreat, or what is needed to manufacture advance materials.) but there is a codex in game and youtube videos that can help.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is another great idea for a game which fails in execution. First the good, some of which are great; the amount of depth available in making economic decisions is unparalled. production, trade and accounting come together in a beautiful sauce of gamey-goodness. The combat is simple but still an engaging puzzle, not in the tactical sense but the logistical. Suffice it to say, this is a true resource allocation game and did does that part VERY well. As for the bad... the game just is too…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend a game this laggy and buggy. On top of that, conquering territories never felt so unsatisfying. You could lose it any moment due to riots and I don't know what all. 3/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a prety good, deep and well made turn-based grand strategy game. Great GUI improvement from MH II: tWotW. Pro Well researched game, quite historically acurate. Good battle system Interesting and complex tech tree A lot of different resources, hard to keep track of everything, but not overwhelming You can play as any nation, plus workshop content, which gives it a lot of replayability Ok graphics Cool Russian Civil War DLC (get it!) Cons Slow turns, that grow slower as the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game could be so much more. The economic portion is great you can completely influence a major change by how you develop your country economically. But the military portion is basic and unrealistic. My 10 tanks beat your 4 mountain divisions ...in the Alps?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Belgium annexed Germany.... GG 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THis game is terrible for anyone that is a fan of accurate historical games, the game is naturally rigged for it to be impossible to win as the central powers and the allied countries have far to many alliance that they refuse to leave, where as the central powers always fall apart before the war even begins. AND if you do TRY to be peaceful the allies wil always start an uprovoked war without any cause. DO NOT BUY THIS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR - High complexity in economics, industry, diplomacy, and government paired with a lack of automation and really poor user interface; Too little complexity in military. Broken/stupid AI. Bugs galore. --- I've been conflicted about this game since I first played it. I see the potential, and I really wanted to like this game, but in the end I just can't leave a good review. In the gaming industry, World War I is a very under-represented event in world history, despite the massive impact…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked MH2, it was easy to learn and despite some Nations having a lot of cities it was relatively easy to play. It also had a difficulty setting which made it easier to learn what tactics worked w/ out getting you butt kicked right away. I was anxiously awaiting MHTGW and purchased it on Steam, but I was disappointed with it because instead of keeping it simple they made it much more complex, adding steel, fuel to resources and adding rail, road and shipping capacity to the game. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Initially, this game looks really neat. But if you buy it, first do a battle. Just pick Germany, for example. I had 47 units fighting 4 units. Yet after 2 months, I had lost 9 units, and they had not lost any! Do this first so you can get a refund. I checked this out because I have MH "the calm before the storm" where battles lasted too long, tho not nearly as bad as this game. Also got this pop up that tells me I have to respond every so often to a request for a 28 digit number they…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An amazing strategy game, without the steep learning curve of the Paradox games. You can play as any nation (with the exception of a few micro states) and change the course of history. The map is big and gives you a lot of provinces to conquer, upgrade and manage. I would've liked to see more cities on the map, though. There is also a lot of diplomatic options available. Managing colonies is way easier than in past MH games as well. The game is also great for making your own scenarios/mods.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Replayable. Accurate. Turn Based. All countries playable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game had potential to be really good, but it looks and plays like it wasn't fully developed. It is unbalanced, has numerous bugs and just a complete lack of features to set it apart from previous entries of the Making History titles. Almost all mods are outdated and or don't work properly, console commands would help fix alot of these issues but despite numerous people trying to reach the devs about it over the years none have been published. Since it's release almost no updates have been…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Each turn in this game represents one week of time. The first 100 or so turns involve researching one scientific/military breakthrough every five to ten turns (depends on the number of research labs you have built), forming a few new divisions to quell minor regional/colonial skirmishes, making improvements to provinces, planning your long term strategy, saving up resources so that in late 1913 you can start purchasing new fully researched divisions in anticipation of August 1914. It's a lot…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horrible game because the map sucks. The map is the very foundation of the game, and if the map sucks then everything else automatically sucks. The map gives you a horrible angle of Europe and you can't rotate the map nor re-angle the map - it doesn't even scroll smoothly but moves segmented. Absolutely atrocious. I want you to go and look at the screenshots of the game, do you see Europe? That's it, that's what you're stuck with - most of the territories are angled away giving the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The big problem with this game is the AI. It´s much, much to aggressive and unhistorical. The first world war and the time proceeding it was marked by decidedly conservative regimes and military high commands doing everything decidedly conservatively and cautiously. But so far I've seen Germany completely loose the war on Russian within a few turns while I as France was awaiting to get my face bashed in by them in the autumn of 1914. The Germans that did attack on the western front stuck to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No boasting, believe me. Just to make a point. I have about 560 Steam games and a couple of hundred non-Steam and have never experienced an "out of memory" error. In fact, I can remember experiencing one in the last 20 years of using a computer. This is unacceptable. I'm sure they would tell me to update my drivers ;) Obviously, they are not able to fix this critical error. Stay away, as it may crash after the two-hour refund policy expires.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easier to get a grip on than some of the other grand strategies and feels authentic to the era it takes place in! Can run well on some of the cheaper computers so no worry about not running this at its max potential! 10/10 would buy again
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have had this game since it launched an it has never gotten old its a great game for what if scenarios an more this game is just raw fun an has limitless possibilities one of my favorite turn based games yet I will always support this franschise because it produces great world war simulators an they are endless fun can't wait till the new one comes out soon I'm hoping to see a better map an a improved interface an maybe even more world events and randomized choices ! But for me this game has…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game and i would recommed it to other grand strategy enthusiast, however it is not a great game but "just" a very good game, there are issues that could definetly need some love to make it better. positive; good trade system, however it is manual control only and you can only trade the basic resources such as energy, metal, steel, road and rail etc, factory production that isnt steel, road and rail only produce money (would have been nice to them on the market) road and rail…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a fantastic game, but bugs make it next to unplayable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't a bad game really. It's got the history, the turn based stratagey, and it isn't that hard to play once you get your head around it. Yes, the multitude of buttons is painful, but it's much like Europa and Victoria having a child and it coming out not as high brow as the parents. Good game and the tutorial REALLY helps.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game but Entente is too strong compare Central Powers. And African people revolting too much to normal. Except this two, very nice game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Making History: The Great War is a 4X/grand strategy military turn based strategy set in the 1910's/WW1 era. Choose any single nation and govern it through the great war era with deep economic and military gameplay. While this should be a recipe for success, poor delivery will ruin any premise, no matter how promising. Despite the 2015 launch date, the interface looks and feels like something from 2005. There's no UI scaling, so if you own a monitor from 2015 or newer, this is going to be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are some good things about this game that I liked. First off, it isn't easy to find a First World War game, especially one for Mac. Graphically, the game isn't the worst but a lot of the artwork that accompanies messages is very garish. Unit models look ok, but battle isn't particularly interesting to look at. Everything worked ok... colonies, armies, economies, etc, and there was some nice detail down to the units that were raised. A Canadian unit raised in Quebec had French culture,…

unlabelledView post →Bought this game recently and so far I love it. While it can seem overwhelming at first, once you get a hang of the mechanics and where the various items you need to keep track of are located it actually becomes quite simple. Much simpler to play than To End All War. Also much more detailed and variable than Comander: The Great War. More along the line of Europa Uuniversalis or Victoria. But I like the interface better than those games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game, some bugs but, they are not much!Recommend!(BTW the game is dead, and not being updated, just like CS 1.6)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great strategy game it may not be the most graphically pleasing but it is so addictive i would give it an 8/10.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just not my cup of tea and it also seems kinda outdated
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not one for grand strategy games, but this game hooked me. Instead of seeing a flag with a name you actually get to see the Officer and what kind of unit he is. For example, the Cavalry Officer is on a horse and Infantry Officer is on foot. I also love how this game is WWI based instead of the usual WWII or Medieval. I highly recommend this game, especially because I was able to play it on a 2008 HP Palvion i3. That goes to show that you don't need a super good PC to play this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sorry, but ust not worth buying this game for almost 30€! Detailed map but that's it. Beside that very simple and linear. And loading a game is way too "user unfriendly"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very well made game, Gives the chance to play as any nation of the world and has easy to use mods that you can create yourself, Altering the world stage into anything you wish. Watchout though dont be fooled by the low graphics, the memory required is higher than you might expect.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good Game, though some improvements to streamlining, and diplomacy would push it over the top!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay... so the game isn't bad at all. There are some minor bugs, works just fine on almost every pc (doesn't matter if you play on a potato ot luxory gaming station). But still I wouldn't recommend this game because of the lack of updates, low amount of players and the absolutely unplayable multiplayer. With all that in mind you should buy a better game for the really bad price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GReat game! crashes sometimes but if you save it every couple of turns then you can just load it up. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MH The great war is unplayable. You can sit and build all day long, compile ALL your armies into one massive army, bomb france, or russia, or even Austria/Hungary, it doesn't matter, you CANNOT defeat the first army battle. My force was over 300 attack points in each scenario and I could not defeat an army of 100 defense points. The battle will last SO LONG that the enemy replenishes its hit points at 3:1 of your attack points. Then there is the single-army scatter plan of the AI. I quickly…
