Playing as Japan I rolled most of China early in the game (1936) which was a bit of an "er... ok" moment but invading the Soviets in 1938 was a whole different ball of wax. After initially wiping the Siberian floor with the defenders the western units started trickling in one or two at a time. Which made me think. "Ah another easy wipe my army of twenty file will win the day!". Er... cough, yea, couple of turns later…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nothing irritates me more than developers that sell games with NO guide or manual. I get it... takes money to pay for a technical writer to create a guide, but for JC sake, give me something to go on. I just bought the game, started playing, and within minutes I have not got a clue where to start. How do I get food production up? How do I get coal production up? Just give me some basics! Give me the good old days when you got a physical copy of instructions. This doesn't even have a tutorial. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played both Making 1 and 2 games prior to this one. IMO, TSWW is terrifically improved. The mechanics--though not immediately intuitive--are thoroughly fantastic one you've assimilated into TSWW's style of game management. The game is playable without the tutorial, which is rather lacking. Pick any nation and start hacking away at an enemy. The fun will meet with terror and dispair over dwindling supplies, cash, and every lowering efficiency stats of an ever shrinking military. But,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite a rich game, nice level of complexity, it really gives the vibe of the older HOI's. Being able to play any country and not be historically locked is very nice, there are more emphasizes on cultures and production. Sprites are nice and gives a lot of variety to the map. However it's still a bit rough around the edges, making the game feel "heavier" than it should: - end turns taking a few seconds to launch when auto saving - interface sometimes a bit slow, a few typos - IA sometimes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having played Avalon Hills Third Reich for years, I'm always interested in these large scale war models. I really dig it. I like running war economies and trying to patch together production to keep a war moving. I really like being able to play the minor powers. I also like this about TGW. Weird sh*t does happen tho. While playing as Greece, Germany and the USSR had an alliance and were at war with Great Britain. France was still neutral. (Poland isolated itself and had no allies when it was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know, only one hour of play so far, but I thought that I would take this break offered by a CTD to provide my first impressions. 1. Not as much fun as Making History II: The War of the World. 2. Looks good; but so do Making History II: The War of the World and Making History: The Great War, no major improvements over them. 3. Buggy, as per CTD, but in early access so I was expecting some of this. I sent the crash report file to them. 4. A bit expensive for a smaller studio; I would have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game steps in and takes the place of the prior entries in the Making History franchise and adds a LOT more. Of the many hours I played in previous installments there were always changes or things I wished were addressed that never were. This game addresses many of those "wishes" without losing the fun and appeal of the originals. It is not "too hard" to pick up, and the addition of the encyclopedia function helps clarify some of the elements we can find confusing. Further, the tech…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is over all pretty solid. There is no significant improvement over the last installments, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. A few outstanding points: -Recognizeable interface from previous games -More depth and mechanics -A bit buggy -Very minimal scenario selection currently The game has quite a bit of content, with many new features that feel more fleshed out than the other MH games. The game is simple to understand and also runs as a more complex turn-based strategy game.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is different than Hearts of Iron, if you are into that game. I don't think this game is better, but I don't think it is worse either. They both do things differently, so it is hard for me to give a real honest comparison. If you want to play a WW2 Strategy game though, and you HAD to choose only 1, HoI4 or MH:TSW, I would choose this game. I think it comes down to the eye of the beholder though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Should you buy it? NO, Absolutely NOT. In short: PROs: - Game has potential - Funny to replay - More balanced than previous games CONS: - Awful graphic - It goes jerky for no reason (probably not good/optimized coding?) - OUT OF MEMORY ERROR - No national differences - DIPLOMACY OMG This game has potential but it's beyond its competitors by far on many levels. Graphic is just very old and lazy: it's very sad to see a flat map with pale colors, even in 2004 this would have been considered…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't really much like this kind of strategy game. I absolutely had no idea how to play this game. Even I've done the tutorials, still hard to come by. I played the Great War at first and then The Calm & the Storm, learning to understand this gameplay for few days until suddenly I got very addicted to it. Then I bought this game. Hey, who would've thought about that ey? I'm a big fan of history especially World War events. I really enjoy conquering other nations and set your own vassal states…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is no tutorial meaning that it will take you ages to not mess up a single game. Also the go to main menu button just closes the game even though theres a seperate button for that. The game also crashed if you do to many things in one turn.

unlabelledView post →I love the concept of the game and everything. But i just cant play it because of the clunky/slow scrolling speed. I'm running a ryzen 1700x with 1080ti. I will change this review if it gets fixed. Its been consistant on the previous games and its not just me, even Youtube reviewers i can see the clunky scrolling speed. It should be smooth and fluid. Its not like its a high graphic intense game. Also the starting music is terrible that fact it doesn't match the era.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has beautiful models, such detail is paid attention to nearly every nation in the game, bringing a level of immersion not seen in most strategy games covering the same period. That being said if you buy this game it has a steep learning curve, Hearts of iron 4 and this game play very very different, perhaps this was my fault failing to realize this by purchasing MHTSWW.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HOI IV but with: *Pops *You can make new nations with your religion and nationallity of choice. *Religion *Taxes *Turn based combat *Micromanagement (A bit too much though...) It lacks conversion for pops though, Theocracies, Monarchies, Facist and Communist nations should be able to convert their pops IMO. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not enough changes to justify a new game. Same multiplayer bugs that have been in Making History Series for last two releases. For the price i feel ripped off. Bought this game for multiplayer and the game has too many bugs to perform as advertised. This game brings less than $5 worth of improvements from previous Making History. I have been a strong fan of the series for past 3 games but i have to say that this will be the last Making History game (or any Factus release for that matter) I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is almost a good game, but let down by opaque UI and in-game feedback, exacerbated by a lack of a manual. The problem is that it's never clear what real impact your actions have or what you should do to achieve a certain result. For example, the Anschluss events: you don't know which option to select to get the result you want and when you do get a result, it's not clear if this is what was meant to happen (e.g. no Anschluss) or whether you attempted the Anschluss and failed. And, if you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I own and have played a fair amount of every Muzzy Lane/Factus game. This game could be a lot more user friendly and entering the world war space means its in a much more crowded space. I loved Making History II and probably played thousands of hours of it as its approach was unique and though the UI lacked any multi select or other UI improvements that would easily streamline my experience (this game also lacks essential UI improvements), and since The Great War was in a less saturated market…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all the game has lots of options, which is nice. However I would highly recommend it have a font setting option because the resolution is so high that the fonts are really difficult to read for someone like myself with bad eyes - even with trifocals it's insanely difficult for me to read font that small. Otherwise it seems to be a great start for an early release game. You can pick tons of different countries to start if you'd like. Some of the menus don't seem to make sense. Perhaps a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid evolution of gameplay mechanics and features. Making history the second world war (MHTSSW) has improved on virtually every aspect of making history the great war (MHTGW) and expanded upon it in many ways. if you enjoy grand strategy with a "what if this plausible historical event took place instead of what really happened" mindset you will love this series and particularly this one MHTSSW. The developers are constantly taking feedback and engaging with the community. You can tell the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, a bit more immersive than some of the sandbox games like hearts of iron or eu4, so if you're looking for a game with historical accuracy, than this is the game to buy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just bought it not fun at all. I enjoyed calm before the storm because of its simple navigation and rudimentary economic government and resouce functions. this game is very slow and requires meaningless and useless attention to detail. i.e automobles textiles etc.. gonna unistall and go back to calm before the storm. sorry i wasted money hope you dont.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an amazing game in my opinion, I do really love all of the making historys games, I do reccomend for you guys to get it. Also in my opinion when alot of people start to get it, multiplayer may be the funnest option of it all, Edit: I have just made a group for anyone who wants to mabye join or create multiplayer games and share it with others in the group, its small for now, but I do hope that some of you guys join so then mabye the group can have masses of people to have big…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall evaluation - Uninspired and poorly executed money grab that shows how little effort the developers put into the game. No era appropriate soundtrack, limited historical detail, and laggy-frustrating map scrolling. This is a game for people that enjoy a stupid AI and conquering the world with some minor country like Guatemala. PROs ===== - NICE map graphics - ECONOMIC development with diverse resources required for war effort - CULTURE and religion represented - BREAKAWAY nations…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, but it's the same terrible UI from the original. I can barely tell the difference between 2007 and 2018. I played the bejeesus out of the original and previous versions, but they are all basically the exact same with minor tweaks. This might as well be a patched version of the original from over 10 years ago. I don't understand how this is a seperate game. I still enjoy the game, but I can't recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I had the option then I'd give this 2 thumbs down. The Devs took the original game (MH2: The War of the World) and actually took out many of the great features in the original like options for researching. Then they took the original UI which was difficult and then made the informational processing for the player even worse with a more compacted UI. So fewer options and actually less information is the name of the game here. Do yourself a favor and purchase the original where you will…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're willing to spend a few hours learning how to play it, get this game. Once you do it is extremely enjoyable and re-playable, with much less micro-management than other grand strategy games. You can play any nation in the WWII time period all the way through the early cold war, and with the full release of the game a scenario editor is complete and full mods are beginning to be released. However, as I said, it will take a bit of time to learn how to play. The encyclopedia is limited…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is around the same as the great war but have a very bad shortcoming! Big shortage of food for all countries... They should solve this flaws!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everything is ok, except the save and load system.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really do like this game. But the CONSTANT out of memory errors and crashing makes it unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey Guys, it hurts so much to give thumbs down here, but there is no other choice. Bought this game nearly 3 years ago now, and i loved the predecessors so much, maybe one of the best grand strategy games i've ever played. This one has also great potential but it is STILL not playable, every couple of rounds it crashes because "out of memory". Never had this in other games, even Early-Access-Titles. The problem is definitely not my system, and for sure others are suffering because of the same…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is definitely the game for those who think Civilization is too fast and too abstract. It is possible to find a quiet backwater in which one can spend one's turns improving the infrastructure, raising new buildings, researching new technologies, managing trade, allocating production, and fretting over falling inventories. I have only played as Luxembourg and Venezuela -- and I have yet to complete either game despite playing for over thirty (30) hours! I did Japan for one (1) turn and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Grand Strategy Game! The 3d models look great!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 i definitely recommend it, its pretty easy to come to grips with even if it seems much at first and for the love of god the Vassal creation system is beautiful. Territory transfers with your Vassals are also extremely easy unlike certain other games in the genre *cough*hoi iv*cough* and being an avid paradox fan myself i found it very refreshing and fun. I always find myself coming back to it at least a few hours a week especially with the easy map editor.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is worth every penny and more. I have played a lot of it, clearly, and there is still so much I haven't been able to do or experience. It's an endless essentially sandbox style grand strategy game with a big focus on combat. Vast improvements on the previous iterations, and playing as a smaller nation is actually feasible unlike before. Built in editor for making scenarios, with limitless possibilities for possible set ups. Save and load back in as any nation when you want which can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun! It really is. I feel like they've gone back to the games roots. Even though its owned by a different company now. But then the downside. The game looks okay. Its doesnt matter in a game like this but the workload on my pc is too heavy. that and the stuttering when moving the screen with mouse movement. The thing that makes this game unplayable for me are the freezes. The game will end a turn, then i am able to move around, select cities and/or units. But cant make them do any…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →brings the expanded game options and map detail of Making History: The Great War forward into WWII. Historical and alternate history event chains add some direction, challenge or replayability to major nations and several minor ones as well. I have enjoyed the Making History series since Calm and the Storm, and every iteration continues to offer improved gameplay options and possibilities to play with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was utterly made for me! World domination, Historical factuality and geographical accurracy. If you love to submerse yourself into every detail of real life government rule, diplomacy and battle mechanics, you'll love this game. You can play ANY nation and choose your own path. Personally I chose Germany and decided I could do Adolf Hitlers job better. I established a bridgehead in south America, handled diplomacy to build up stockpiles, military power and influence along with a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, the deal with every MAKING HISTORY game is that you best learn how to play by left- and right- clicking through the icons on the lower right corner of your screen, and by doing the same with all the screens that come up. By so doing, you learn that your country has diplomatic policies, government policies, production policies, trade policies, etc., all of which you set. The interface is fairly intuitive. Controlling units takes some getting used to, especially naval units with air…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played all the games in the Making History series, and I find it difficult to keep them mentally separated. I have the feeling that if the title was stripped off, I would only be able to vaguely distinguish them by which of the world wars I am simulating. So, before I recommend this game, let me check one more time what the title is I have put hundreds of hours into this year ... Making History The Second World War. Got it. Making History ... checking title again ... The Second World…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty fun game. It is in a nutshell HOI4 crossed with Civilization.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Actually, this is a nice game, it have the better game playing feeling and better diploma system than MH2, but on the other hand, could you pleace spend a lit bit of time to do some test for the bug fixing, it is impossible for a game player to stand with the "out of the memory" forever! A old play for the Making History.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very great and fun game, though not as complicated or indepth as Hearts of Iron it's good for those who don't want to spend so much time learning or managing many aspects. Despite this the game has many pros and cons Pros: - a level editor allows allows you to create your own dificulty by making a super nation or gentaly decreasing a nations strengh (though for this purposs slightly less common as a difficulty setting was added in post release 3) - easy to understand and grasp and does…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best game in the franchise yet. It brings back the improvements from the last iteration and refines the rest. The only cons are the game doesn't seem to operate in fullscreen even when the option is checked, just windowed. The scripted events/ decisions are well done and definitely add flavor to the game and its my favorite feature. Another great facet of the game is the historical unit skins for almost every nation and type. I recommend this game and would highly recommend it for a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super detailed game for WW2 buffs. The level of detail makes for a bit clunky interface, but if you're a true WW2 buff, this is what you would really expect. Reminds me of World in Flames but with no counters. Cute little historically accurate uniforms, units and ships, things that you normally have to pay extra when doing other games (Like HoI). Game performs well, but in mutiplayer, stil has annoying memory leak, so save often.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoy this game, and I would definitely recommend it to others, but there are some caveats. The biggest caveat is the international trade system is more or less broken. The whole time line has an evolution in the game, where most countries start off with limited amounts of industrialization, or none at all. This creates a huge a need for coal and food. However, coal and food do not sell well on the market at this time, even if demand is huge. Thus if you attempt to build an economy…
