60 of 301 · most liked firstUpdate: I apologize about the statement I made originally about this being ported to mobile after six months - that did not happen. Turns out this game is so bad they likely decided not to port it to mobile at all, which is probably for the best. Not the JA we needed OR deserved. I'm about 6 or so hours into the game and after struggling to make it that far, after giving it chance after chance, realized it's just not at all a game I am willing to spend time playing. The only feature remaining…

I feel like there has to be a way to weaponize this. Have the Pentagon pay the Jagged Alliance guys to make a game with a romance system.
unlabelledView post →Doesnt deserve to be called a jagged alliance game. No where near the quality of gameplay found in its predecessors. Maps are tiny, AI is incredibly stupid, and only being able to play two prepicked chars is just stupid. Another thing that is incredibly stupid is the fact that its turnbased out of combat. Ruins the fluidity of the gameplay when sneaking around.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I really don't wanna be overly critic of fellow austrians, but this game is NOT a JA game. Yeah, it got action points instead of the "do 2 things per turn" turn action, and a jungle environment. It might even be an enjoyable tactics game, BUT .) limited to two mercs instead of having multiple squads of up to 6 mercs. .) only a handful of mercs at least initially, leaving out many fan favourites (where's fidel, lynx, speck, etc.) .) The few mertcs there are share the names, but not the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jagged Alliance: Rage is a turn-based tactical game featuring well-known mercenaries from the original game. This time the player has to take control of the visibly aged mercenaries, helping them to take down a drug overlord in the jungle, full of armed and dangerous enemies. Pros: + The return of the favorite characters from the original game + A classic turn-based tactical game with survival elements + Different characters each with their own list of pros and cons + Has a two-player…

unlabelledView post →It's just not what you expect. If you'd knew beforehand that this is more like 'Jagged Alliance Deadly Games', probably you would not complain about Rage not being JA2. I liked the game. I was disgusted by graphics at first, but i got used to it quickly. Same goes for the story - it's cheap and dirty, trying to pull some emotions about the loss of several beloved mercs and the rest going nuts. I'm OK with the lack of stats on mercs and weapons (especially since JA Flashback which had stats…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After I played it for for couple hours, I would say I hate it! The first 5-10 minutes into the game I thought it was dumb already but I kept telling myself it was only a tutorial it would get better as I moved to other levels. I was wrong it! It was all the same thing over again. Problems that make the game boring: 1. Too much talking in this game 2. Small maps 3. Movement 4. Little combat involve *Don't waste your money on this game. It's not worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A videogame design thing I recently appreciated is I. Jagged Alliance 3, which starts with a disclaimer that the game is supposed to be hard and you might mess up your entire playthrough but then gives you the option to make everything easier with a tag saying “not recommended”

With the first two games being incredibly good and majority of the games that came afterwards being incredibly bad, nowadays, the Jagged Alliance name has a weird effect on people. If you'll call your game “Jagged Alliance”, it'll mean two things. First, the people would buy it. Because the original games were that good. Second, the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't Jagged Alliance. The character pool is small, and lacks many of the "better" mercs. And while the game acknowledges that a significant amount of time has passed and all of the formerly great mercs have aged, none of them have any personality. The voice acting is terrible, to the point that it sounds like the actors are just reading lines. The gameplay is bland and feels like something I would expect from a mobile game. AI is wonky, survival elements feel like a last-minute addition…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's also another XCOM/Jagged Alliance tactical game called Warhounds (lol) but it's by a Russian developer and is (apparently) a reskin for Western audiences after the previous release, set in RUSSIA'S CURRENT WAR IN UKRAINE WHERE YOU PLAY THE WAGNER GROUP, found little interest overseas FUCK^2
unlabelledView post →This game is totally not worth the wait and excitment. Its just a simplified spin-off of X-Com 2. A far far cry from the passed JA series. Graphics is too "cartoony" also. All thumbs down.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worst game of the series. Save your time and skip it. 100% not worth buying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rage is an appropriate title... I imagine this game is going to be pretty divisive. Biggest thing, it's not very similar to the previous titles in the series. It trades depth for ease of play and realistic visuals for a more cartoonish aesthetic. While the changes might make it more accessible to some people it isn't the game I was hoping for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In all fairnes I have to say that if Steam would offer the option to give a neutral vote, I would do that! I can not recommend this game. I tried to be open minded about this one but to no avail. Here's why: - The graphics and cutscenes are too catoony - The UI and control elements are extremely streamlined. All the good options from JA2 are either gone or totally simplified. - The map seems smaller and you are more limited in your movement - No remapping of controls/buttons possible On the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game may take place in the same universe as Jagged Alliance 1 & 2, using a few of their well known characters but it feels much more like a stealth-puzzle game in the style of Commandos or Shadow Tactics than like the turn-based tactical strategy games that the original Jagged Alliances were. Gone are the exciting fire fights of the originals, replaced by sneaky but tedious assassinations. This conceptual change might be acceptable if it worked. But it doesn't. There is so much wrong…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Long time JA fan here. I helped Kickstart JA:Flashback and own all the other games. I still have my original sir-tek cd's! This game does have its issues, but I feel like it doesn't deserve the super negative comments its getting. JA:2 is the King of the Series and I think JA: Rage is unfairly being compared to it, rather than it's own merits. This is my take. TLDR: I give it 6/10 Grunty's. Pros: * Some of the old AIM Mercs are back! Grunty, Ivan, Dr. Q, Vicky Waters, Shadow and Raven. *…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I guess I'm a little goofy myself for looking for a morally clean game where you play bloodthirsty mercenaries, like "the good ones" like Jagged Alliance that were mostly lead by Americans sent into "unstable countries", mostly places evoking countries that the US knocked over in the 80s.
unlabelledView post →This game does not deserve "Jagged Alliance" in it`s name.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a JA fan from the first hour. If you are too, and you're looking for a new JA, this is not it. Still, I'm finding just enough to enjoy here to be able to recommend it. It's a decent tbs with a good bit of strategy, even if it has some issues. Good - Fun tbs gunplay - Enjoyable banter - Satisfying weapons (impact, sound) - A hint of Jagged Alliance flavour - Manages to get you into the spirit of freeing an oppressed people Ok - Graphical style is nice, but does not quite fit the…

In its current state I'd rate it somewhere between "meh" and "okay, I guess". Get it in a sale and ignore the "Jagged Alliance" epithet.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A run-of-the-mill turn-based tactics game with everything you expect in this genre - take cover, flank enemies, sometimes use special abilities. In an attempt to distinguish itself from the usual X-Com clone, this game introduces stealth, and survival mechanics, and A LOT OF BUGS! - The fights are uninspired, and not particularly challenging, but serviceable. - The stealth mechanics is mostly just boring, especially considering that everything happens in turns, so you spend ages waiting for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried to like this game I realy did, but even if you ignore all the other issues there are just too many bugs. The AI lockups completely - the only fix to tab out, kill the game and try again. The AI can randomly attack you at stupid ranges (in the fog) and ignore the cover rules, the only fix reload and try again. The AI, is supposed to be trained elite mercs. So why do 20 guys all run into the killzone - apart from the sniper shooting me from insde the fog of war through 3 walls of a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly, this game is probably going to be overshadowed by Mutant Year Zero, its low budget look, and the feeding frenzy of the internet dumbasses that are unable to look past the fact that this is not jagged alliance 3. Well you primma donnas can cry all you want, because regardless of your bleating this is a really good tactics game that, most importantly, is FUN. I don't like the cartoon esthetic and I could have done without the humor, although it doesn't bother me either, but to me this…

Strategy title based on the turn-based combats in which you can adapt the tactics what else you believe to be efficient but with only one objective: Eliminate the drug cartel. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rage was the last Jagged Alliance spin-off to be released during the long wait between the second and the third game in the series. At the time, many people, myself included, were getting increasingly disillusioned with the future of the franchise. As previous spin-offs had generally been either poor remakes or unsuccessful attempts to ape the style of the great canonical games in the series. Things considered, the expectations from Rage were quite low indeed. So despite an initial interest, I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where to begin? Well, lets maybe start with yet another title that has tarnished the name of Jagged Alliance by using that very name on their game! Very basic layout and game-play, lack of balance, average visuals, poor voice acting, substandard interface. Even if this was an original title it would be a hard slog to play. The day we get a Jagged Alliance 2 game with better graphics and maybe expanded world, is the day we get a good Jagged Alliance follow up.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a try of breathing new air into the Jagged Alliance franchise, sadly they took all the bad things of Jagged alliance 2 and put it in a game. You can walk around with a character, and just backstab every enemy like a puzzle game. But if you are spotted and combat starts the enemy's run up to you in 1 turn and shoot you, that does make it harder then JA 2. I must say I still have 2 dedicated computers to play Jagged Alliance 2 1.13 from time to time. Yes I must have played that game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just a not-fun X-Com knockoff. Sorry to say, not worth even at this price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game should not have been released to way it is now. Cooperation works horrible, if you quickload friend gets kicked out. The Game gets stuck in random places. There is always problems with inventory space/storage. If didn't have bug I might give a rating of 3/5 but. Since many features aren't polished it is maximum of 2/5. You need lots of patiance with these bugs. Story is barely so-so. If there would be overhaul update that gives levels, more space, bigger maps, more charaters that might…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game for its multiplayer coop, to play with a fried. However, the gameplay was filled with "WTF just happened?"-moments. The push-to-talk button my friend was using, was changing weapons on *MY* character. And we found no way to reconfigure keys. The coop was a mess to play. No clear indication when it is your turn and when it is your friend's turn. Your friend can end your turn if he so chooses. Our characters died, but the "restart mission" button was grayed out for some…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poor combat system, no skill point, very bad IA and tiny maps. Overall bad game... still payable compared to flashback.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls aren't that great and it's excessively difficult. There are better JA games out there. Just play them
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of this is the increasing costs of game development, though. It was way cheaper to bake in colossal amounts of reactivity in the era when level design was playing with a tileset and you creating a fully voiced Jagged Alliance mercenary meant putting Janet the secretary before a microphone.

unlabelledView post →So. 7 hours in. We bought 2 of these and thought we could play it as a coop game. The familiar mercs basically drove us into playing this. First of all, it was extremely fun as a coop experience, however the constant inventory management will drive anyone nuts. You need to have a gun, ammo, bandages and preferably water + something else when you attack a sector. Problem is. The game is extremely stingy on inventory space. Painstakingly. Anyway, planning stuff with a friend then executing that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look, its no Jagged Alliance 2. I didn't buy this expecting a masterpiece, i bought this for the jungle warfare and it didn't disappoint on this field. Don't buy this if you want Jagged Alliance 2. buy this if you find wandering the jungle and having to check your supplies fun. 6/10 is my rating, i'd recommend only to those who wouldn't regret taking a 20$ risk, you might like it. I know i do.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just played it 9 hours straight in co-op with a friend. we had a blast. It is by no means a fully fledged JA successor, it is more what Fallout Tactics was to Fallout. Game starts off slow, first few missions are a grind but then it really pics up. You get resting places where you have a shared stash and can do multiple things like healing, repairing and crafting. You can craft weapon and armor addons to boost stats or get more inventory space for example. The Action Point system works well,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When it works, it's a fun stealth-oriented JA, that never let you assemble your personal army, forcing you to actually do guerilla instead of John Rambo warfare. Problem is, half of the time it doesn't work. Hardlocks, AI's freezes, visual bugs that lies to you and ruins stealth segments, audio glitches. ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ color filter makes you difficult to see even your own troops. I can see a rocket jumping player flying 500 kph past me in Quake, but I can't see a drunk Ivan in open field in…

unlabelledView post →Unfortunately, this version has removed the management part of the game. I haven't played long, just under an hour, but it feels like you have no choice beyond initial mercenaries about the team, equipment, new mercenaries, or anything that felt like commanding a company. I have enjoyed this franchise for years but I think they missed the target here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a decent example of a turn-based tactics game, but there are many of those following this conventional 2010's-era style, with a streamlined movement, cover and visibility system, and a skill menu to give each character class some variation. It is playable, and there are a few technical and UX issues, but nothing that would sink it. I would even venture to call it well-produced and I might attempt to finish the campaign. What it doesn't have - and the reason to give it a pass,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its true that the game never will reached Jagged Alliance 2 but its quite better than Flashback. After a time, the game will be boring. Water and Drugs ect. are nice features but not so nice as they seems. But the worsed of the game is the poor KI and the fact, that they freeze often. As comparison, that I have brought Jagged Alliance 2 for 20 DM (about 10 € now) one year after the release, this 20 € was a real waste. 10 € for this game in it beta station were ok or as an early access
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly i was never expecting JA3. or even a close clone of JA2. however i wasnt expecting anything as tedious and mishmashed as this. whilst it keeps the core mechanic of turn based and action points its just clunky as hell with a very poorly considered interface and it lacks the ability to do many of the actions that before gave a nice array of combat options. a few nice features that had they been impimented well would have been great but overall this game is tedious and poorly designed and…
