What people are saying

Mixed but leaning positive; praised for building, exploration, and co-op, but criticized for performance and combat repetition.

Many players praise Enshrouded for its beautiful world, deep building system, and engaging exploration. One reviewer calls it 'a dream game for anyone who loves both Minecraft and Terraria' (R26), while another says 'the building... oh, the building! It's just...' (R27). The co-op experience is also highly valued, with one player noting 'we’ve been playing nonstop for a week and we all forgot what touching grass feels like' (R15). [26][27][15]

However, critics point to poor optimization and repetitive combat as major drawbacks. One player reports 'on AMD this game have a really bad performance' (R32), while another says 'the combat starts off feeling good but by mid-game it starts to feel very repetitive' (R33). Some also complain about the lack of climbing tools and the vertical world design, with one stating 'there is a lot of verticality in the world and no good tools to deal with it' (R28). [32][33][28]

Praised building system · exploration · co-op · world design

I typicall don't leave reviews, but I am doing so to respond to WumpusGaming, as there's no other way to address how objectively abysmal his review is and/or how confused he is when he turns comments off. "I cannot get Enshrouded to run after the last patch without it using 80-100% of the GPU and heating up to 40-50C. Every single other game I own uses between 20-40% of the GPU and heats up to 30-40C." High GPU utilization is most often a good thing and it means you're not bottlenecked…

Good game but it becomes quite a headache frequently because there is a lot of verticality in the world and no good tools to deal with it. ZERO ascension/climbing tools. So, you can end up running around in some cases for HOURS trying to find the ONLY path up to a certain area of the world. This is why I stopped playing. Devs - you are missing a huge opportunity for a fun climbing system or mini-game that would alleviate a lot of player frustration and add another layer of fun to the game.…

I'll start by saying this is a beautiful with devs that work really hard and care alot about their project. BUT Imagine the satisfaction of mining in Minecraft BUT you have to manually hit E to collect Every. Single. Block. Forget the combat jank and the movement jank forget all that I can deal with that. My partner wants to build. I want to collect. Collection requires me to beat my E key like it stole something from me. We need any crop, wood ect well my index finger is screaming…

Time is a government conspiracy engineered by the bourgeoisie to convince you that playing this game is less important than fulfilling the social contract through labor. Is it really bedtime, or is it time instead to hunt shroud roots to complete the Battlemage skill tree before the first rays of sunlight pierce through the blinds?

At some point in gaminghood, you develop a sixth sense. You can almost smell Early Access regret. You hear the words “roadmap” and “potential” and know you’re about to be disappointed. Enshrouded did not do that. It showed up at launch already swinging, and then — SHOCKER — keeps getting better. I now have 180 plus hours in this game, and at no point did I think, “This will be good later.” It was good immediately. Which frankly sets an unrealistic standard for every other EA game.…

I've seen some down-votes due to a misunderstanding with the co-op. Ppl are saying that you cant make your own base/chests/etc. This isn't a MMO-lite with multiple guilds/tribes. Its a single player or CO-OP game. Co-op meaning the game and world is shared, not at each persons own pace. No one will probably see this but I thought it was worth saying something for those that may get discouraged over someone else's misunderstanding.

If you're going into this game hoping to do anything related to being a magic-based character, don't bother. The spells are needlessly convoluted, involving crafting spell charges and cycling through them in a roulette wheel you can only access while aiming the staff and charging a spell. The spells are beyond underwhelming, having almost no sound, no impact, very low velocity, and no homing capability to speak of to make up for the slow moving projectiles. So slow, in fact, are these…

Every time I pick this game up, the same thing happens: I quit for the exact same reason. There is way too much junk to pick up and an endless amount of chests to manage, scattered all over the place. I simply can’t stand it. Yes, the magic chest helps a bit — but not nearly enough. Why do developers still think this kind of chest micromanagement is a fun or meaningful part of a modern game? My suggestion is simple: Make one shared base inventory. Every chest you build in a base should just…

To strengthen the flame, you must fight the monsters of depression and obtain the parts from these monsters so you can fight to survive in the most and worst shroud of depression there is. You save people from the shroud and create a new community with them and obtain new materials, gear and other things, like furniture so you make yours and your companions life better.…

I lost all interest in this game when I discovered that if you remove a seed of corruption it just comes back. To me, the whole appeal of this game was that I could root out the evil and restore the world. But actually, you can't, you can't affect the world at all beyond your base area. A missed opportunity I'd say. Perhaps if I had friends I gamed with I would find something else to enjoy about it while playing with them but I don't.

Seeing so many negative reviews for this game breaks my heart. This is genuinely everything you could ever want from this type of open world game, it has some of the most in depth crafting/cooking systems and world detail and building capabilities I've EVER seen, and I mostly play survivalcraft stuff. If you can conceptualize a build, you can make it in this game with almost zero limitations, more detailed than modded minecraft. I've seen people build things from massive underground tunnel…

Enshrouded is what happens when survival crafting games finally decide to respect your time and your imagination. You start out thinking, “Alright, another ‘punch trees, eat berries, don’t die’ situation.” Three hours later you’re architect of a small kingdom, casually terraforming hillsides, building a house that would make medieval Pinterest jealous, and wondering why every other game suddenly feels… mehh The world? Think Valheim meets breath of the wild, with an amazing base building engine that honestly just feels great. content progression is pretty linear, but the overall dungeons/map design/lighting elements are all solid executions. its a more mature minecraft, i only say that cause of the depth to building you can employ. will sink hundreds more hours. 9.4/10 - edited to reflect my increased appreciation for the game/roadmap/ progression. excellent work devs. only gripes are…

I installed Enshrouded thinking I would casually chop a few trees, craft a little bench, maybe kill two skeletons and go to sleep at a reasonable hour. Instead, the game grabbed me by the throat, threw me into a fog-filled death zone, made me addicted to rebuilding my house for the 14th time, and somehow convinced me that “just one more upgrade” was a healthy life decision. I should not need to enable FSR to maintain 60 FPS at 1440p on an overclocked and undervolted 9070 WITH reduced settings. That's crazy. I'm well above your recommended specs and I'm sitting around 50 FPS in the open world without FSR. That's with Point Light Shadows, Shadows, Indirect Lighting, and other settings turned down. on AMD this game have a really bad performance despite having just an okay graphics, from researching i think it's because the game forces you to use ray tracing with no way to turn it off. with my 6700XT, my GPU is doing 90-99% usage on Native AA (1080P) on the lowest setting, so i have to use FSR and settle for blurry and bad graphics or get lags and stutters. so if you use AMD GPUs i recommend you check how well your GPU runs this game.

I have such a love/hate relationship with this game. On one hand it achieves almost everything it sets out to do but at the same time I feel it's lacking. Looking past my frustrations with the sometimes buggy nature of the combat and the ball-torturing amount of enemies, this game has a lot of soul and a lot of good mechanics to play around with. So often I find myself wishing the world didn't feel so dead. That the NPC's I save and build homes for did more than just say "hey" at you in an…

I desperately want to like this game. I have tried on 4 separate occasions to play this through and only on the most recent 4th attempt did i even make it past Pike Mead's Reach. Its ALMOST a good game, and has the potential to be great even, but it is held back by a lot of not so great design decisions that have thus far gone un-addressed. Due to how much Enshrouded borrows from Valheim, this review will be a feature-by-feature comparison between the two games, but I'll start with my overall impression: Valheim is a labor of love created by 5 indie developers who clearly play their own game, whereas Enshrouded is a labor of corporate beancounters created by dozens of cubicle workers just doing a job. Assets: Enshrouded is better. I like Valheim's low-fidelity aesthetic, but its assets are filled with amateurish mistakes. I do…

The early game is really fun, but the later areas start to get really grindy, and they struggle with later areas of the game in particular with balancing for smaller groups. The dragon boss in particular is a good example of this - it would probably be fun in a group of 5 or 6, but we played as a duo and it was an awful slog even with boss health and damage scaled down. It was bad enough that we decided we had our fill of the game and didn't bother continuing into the new water biome.

Think, Skyrim, Valheim, Breath of the Wild, Minecraft, and The Forest combined. No cannibals, just spooky moments. The Positives: 1. Co-op makes this game incredible! Don't get me wrong, Enshrouded has genuine qualities. I really love Enshrouded, but the frequent performance and stability issues are making it almost unplayable right now. The game regularly crashes due to what appears to be a GPU-related error, which often results in the game (or even Steam/PC) dumping and closing. Crash frequency is inconsistent — sometimes I can play for an hour, other times it happens after just 15 minutes. Each crash means lost progress, which is incredibly frustrating. Everything about this game is tuned, designed, and optimized to be enjoyed by a group of people. I played through the solo experience so far for a good 13 hours or so and... I mean it works, but it really doesn't have the depth of most single player games. It's a bit of an open world slop builder that expects you to be part of a group of people gathering…

Note: 1,500 of my hours were spent BEFORE the recent garbage updates. The remaining 200 hours were spent purely testing and verifying bugs for reports. The most recent update 8 ruined the smooth overland traversal and platforming. Movement feels slow to respond, and quicker to stop. Gliding movement is not as playful and fun to use; this includes the terrible rework of the skill Updraft, as you don't get any meaningful boost and having to wait to use it makes it pointless. It was key to how the game played. This game's movement and platforming were perfect and never needed a change: only the combat did. Why change what worked just to (in your…

It is a gosh darn crime this isn't available. What you have made available through the water world is nearly incredible, something no game has done, or made available. If you do not make a creative building mode for this game, it would be a crime. Plain and simple. This game would be PERFECT with it. PERFECT. GAME OF THE YEAR.

    # Enshrouded Review I honestly think Enshrouded is becoming one of my all-time favorite games. What surprised me most is that this game doesn’t just do one thing well. Most survival games usually have one standout feature while the rest feel shallow or unfinished. You can even build your own town with actualy villagers that you can find all over the world. Give them homes and you can even let them wander around in town. They even sleep in their own bed you give them. And they have also handy skills to craft all kinds of things for your adventure or your base. + The world is BIG really…

This is a fantastic game for a group of friends! It's easy to pick up, there's lots to explore and do and it's been a blast! But on the other hand, I feel like I spend more time compiling shaders than playing the game. Every tiny little update, I have to compile more shaders. It's fine if it's just a little bit, but in my experience, it fairly regularly breaks the shader cache and the game becomes an uplayable mess until I manually force all shaders to recompile, which is a 30 minute ordeal...…

A dream game for anyone who loves both Minecraft and Terraria. It combines Terraria's epic fantasy world design with a building system that gives you far more freedom than Minecraft. You're not limited to simple blocks, you can customize structures piece by piece and build almost anything you can imagine. The gameplay loop can get repetitive after a while: explore a new region, gather resources, craft better gear, and repeat. Playing with friends helps a lot and makes the grind much more…

Terribly optimized. I had a lot of fun playing this when it first came out, but it's constant performance Issues, which have gotten worse with every major update, have led me to uninstalling the game. Once held 144 fps on max settings during its first release, now holding low 20's with those same settings. With performance settings enabled, I am creeping along 70ish fps, with a staggering amount of stuttering. There are times frames would drop to low 30's. If you can somehow get past these…

I'm on my 3rd playthrough with my husband. We are totally hooked on this game. I've played a lot of survival games. Usually I get so bored in the lifeless world. But this game, the story is intriguing, the combat is fun, the characters make me actually call them by name when I run up to them and they say "HELLO!" in one of the many towns I've built because the building... oh, the building! It's just so well done! I want to build all the time! Yes, its still EA. Yes, it has its bugs. Yes,…

I know its early access, but you cant have your final boss the Dragon (the corrupted beast) reset the fight at 10% hp after fighting it for 20 minutes. This happend several times ... and we gave up. It's kinda gamebreaking.

400 hours played — and I’m still not bored. That should tell you everything. This is easily one of the best survival RPGs released in years. Enshrouded doesn’t just give you systems — it gives you a world that genuinely pulls you in. The atmosphere is incredible. Exploring Embervale, especially inside the Shroud, feels tense and immersive. The vertical exploration with climbing and gliding makes discovery addictive. You constantly find hidden ruins, caves, and secrets that actually feel…

Playing the game solo and it is well balanced enough to not be a grueling grind.

"Our cause was just, and our intentions were pure. Be certain, I would choose this path again." The first thing I have to say about this game is that it is absolutely beautiful. The second is that I'm surprised at how well made this game is in a multitude of ways. Perhaps it's sad to say, but in the time that I've played this game I've run into no bugs that I can think of or remember, the mechanics all work as intended (except for perhaps the multiplayer or quest marker ones, but I talk about…

Sharing some of my nitpicks i had with the game & positive feelings. Overall it's a good game. If you like Minecraft, NMS, Vampire survivor and etc etc with building bases it's good, you're also able to be a farmer and create a barn similar to stardew valley to an extent. Buildings - Most of the rooftops finishing touches are either : " Don't use windows - closed building" "Use windows but requires to build a wall and remove block by block( 1 by 1) to create the window space (the tracking…

Enshrouded has been an absolute joy to play. The building mechanics are easily some of the best in the genre, intuitive, flexible, and genuinely really fun to experiment with. I enjoy how the world feels like one giant co-op experience, making exploration and progression feel shared and meaningful among the whole group. Crafting is done very well, and the game is packed with thoughtful QoL features. Magic chests that pull resources from anywhere in your base are a huge win for me, especially…

The first 20 hours of the game are one of the best survival and base-building experiences out there. After that it gets more grating, tedious, and samey, lacking any new ideas. Ubisoft- style map marker quests litter the vast and empty zones while you get showered with hundreds of meaningless crafting resources in repetitive and skillless combat. What once were intriguing visuals becomes an annoying mess of foggy and blurry colors, hiding how little care went into the world design. Combat…
