unlabelledView post →Reading glasses recommended, but worth every single word Oh boy, Hymer 2000 was a ride and easily one of my favorite 2025 games so far. This is absolutely a “go in blind” experience, so I won’t spoil a thing, but trust me: it’s a beautifully crafted narrative experience which is 100% worth your time. For such a short game, the characters have shockingly solid depth, and the writing hits with the kind of emotional weight that had me reaching for tissues more than once. You’ll spend most of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just wanted to leave a quick review to say that this seems fine and I think a lot of effort went into it, but it's an absolute stone-cold downer, so if you're not looking for a really depressing slog that makes you feel worse about everything, then maybe skip it. I really wish I had.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →okay I can't take this seriously why is everyone named after a simpsons character lol (Apu, Bart, Lisa)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How is this not plagiarism of Never Let Me Go? I don't care if the game mentions the book itself or not, this is shameful. Do yourself a favor, read the book instead. It's infinitely better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I was younger I read a lot of dystopian books, now that we are living in a dystopian world I don't do it anymore. Because of that experience I guessed quite early what the story will be. There was a twist at the end on Bart's storyline though. The gameplay The game took me around 4h30 for a 100% completion. The game is in two parts. One is about searching for keywords to unlock the exchanges that the computer knew about, those are written like messages. The second part is a walk around…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hymer 2000 is an intimate, quietly haunting narrative game that uses minimalism as its greatest strength. Developed by doBell and published by indienova, it unfolds through a simulated computer interface where you sift through fragmented data, archived logs, and the remnants of an AI’s consciousness. At first glance, it resembles a simple desktop puzzle game, but beneath its pixel-coated exterior lies a reflective and emotionally layered story about identity, memory, and the humanity that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →absolutely phenomenal. not a super long experience but worth far more than the five dollars I paid for it. The style is very charming, the story is engaging, and I am quite a fan. also it has snake so it's obviously 10/10 <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played Hymer 2000 today and finished it in around 2hrs. It's a poetic visual novel embedded in a Y2K style operational system. I adore the delivery of the sombering story and the "useless" decorative applications in the game. Perfect for a Friday evening cry store.steampowered.com/app/3255860/...

unlabelledView post →the writing is rudimentary and repetitive, ultimately falling very flat and stale when you read the many verbose and uninteresting dialogue sections. Its an interesting concept but an hour in and you have seen most of what this game has to offer. the loop is very bland and the soundtrack along side it gets very irritating very fast. many surface level things are restated at various points and i found myself getting real tired of the writing. not really worth the time in my opinion, read a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. Big sad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful and short narrative game. I wanted to know so much more about the world. Genuinely heart wrenching towards the final stages despite simple game play. Fantastic art direction--seeing all the "faces" was really fun :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was an interesting and unique experience. The gameplay is essentially deduction and inference, in that, you review what are basically chat logs, to help you determine keywords that reveal more story bits. Then there is a secondary walkingsim-like element where you incrementally reveal the primary storyline. I enjoyed my time with the game. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it was a fine story. Oh, and it did give me intense existential dread. lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game, sad but super impactful 🥲 wouldn't recommend leaving it open for two nights in a row tho lmao
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best game i've ever played. it makes you want to get to the end of it, even just to know how it ends, and the stories you get to read while playing are so sad but at the same time so meaningful. congrats to the developers for making such a beautiful game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A sad and heartbreaking story.... with some silly bits and twists! It was a fun and enjoyable game. Hymer is quite an interesting program that seems more "human" at times that one would like to admit. The gameplay was relatively easy to grasp and follow. The art, for most part, was more nostalgia than anything (but that doesn't diminish its quality). I enjoyed, prob more than I should, the canvas and notes modules. I wished there was a way to save them locally or so. The paintings in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hymer let the barts out
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pretty strong narrative. idk why they named the main characters that either though it was kinda distracting
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tries to be a story based game but it has the depth of a puddle. it's just reading, searching, and moving a sprite around. nothing else. there's three characters named after simpsons characters. the game does nothing to make what you're doing rewarding, it just dumps all it's shallow contents on you at once.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its an interactive novel rather than a puzzle game. Interesting enough story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A somber, existential tale which will verberate into the soul. Told using an interactive medium for this go around, but resonates even deeper now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game, short enough to complete in a day, and sad
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man this game was a tearjerker for sure! I really enjoyed it, and I was surprised at how well-written the characters were. It really makes you feel for them as the story progresses. All in all, a very solid game and I definitely recommend if you're thinking of playing something that's not too long with an impactful story :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just as charming as it is gutwrenching. Well-worth the price of admission.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a phenomenal story experience wrapped in a retro vibe. The music was great, the sound design was awesome, and the story beats will keep you intrigued and eventually break your heart in the best way. I can't say enough good words about how this story was structured. I was enraptured the entire way, and all the characters ended up being so unique and lively even though I was just reading about them on a page. Stunning work.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first I was amused by the toy, but as I progressed through the game I found myself truly moved. I loved the story.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“Hymer 2000”: A Minimalist Pixel Story That Hit Harder Than Anything in 2025 (My GOTY) On the surface, Hymer 2000 looks like one of the most restrained indie games you’ll ever open: minimal pixel art, a linear path, visuals so clean they barely qualify as “retro.” At first glance, I honestly thought it would be a quiet, little journey. But like all truly sharp indie works, its impact doesn’t come from its appearance, but structure: Non-linear storytelling, rare multi-thread pacing, and text…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A well-written, quietly yet deeply tragic low sci-fi story about the "donors" who lived in the building of Hope Residence, watched over by the computer Hymer 2000, who you are now tasked to dismantle so the building can be demolished, with no occupants remaining. A playable abridged tragic novel with puzzle components. Themes of memory and forgetting, mortality, grieving what could have been. Bittersweet. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's... it's so melachonic and sad... the way you progress through the story is well-made and fits well.. I hope those children did live beautiful lives after all... hymer is such a good robot.. I would imagine the reason it hadn't helped those kids is because the alternative would be Nexus dismatling hymer for a robot that cares less for the children's well-being..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is more or less the same setting of Never let me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (the book is even mentioned in it), so if you have read it or watched the movie version there is nothing new here. It was a bit disappointing to see something so similar in terms of story. No big twists nor anything. The retro aesthetics is pretty good though. The gameplay is mostly walking and searching words in a search engine, it was kinda fun though. A good entertainment for a single sitting relaxing gaming (reading)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can only recommend this to gamers that are up for reading a lot of text and 8 bit art house-esque visuals. Take it at face value when the game says it "is an interactive text puzzle game." The beauty or meaning you take from it all is up to you. I personally found the written pieces to not form a very meaningful or cohesive story proportional to how long the writing was in total, and I don't believe the average gamer would either, hence me not recommending it. Your interface is a classic…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really deep VN/puzzle hybrid. Lots of text, great story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew about some depraved HLVRAI dog AU fan fiction, but this is something else. Easily the hardest the Simpsons fan theory I've read. I wonder what unspeakable horrors there are about Family Guy or American Dad in the dark corners of the web... Technical details: Proton Experimental, 3 hours to 100%, 800+ episodes to rethink after completing the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game gives feelings in terms of gameplay to games like "Her Story", but with a much more open world. While it doesn't have voices, nor actual faces to characters, the world-building that's revealed though slow understanding puts everything together. It becomes a bit hard at times to find the last bits of data in searching for things, including keywords you wouldn't normally ever think of, but it's the letters that don't spell out definitive things that bring the world together that they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very captivating and emotional story, told through quite novel gameplay means. Definitive recommendation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poignantly sad and reminiscent of <story spoiler> Never Let Me Go. Enjoyed the keyword search method of piecing together the whole story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i played Hymer 2000 - a bitsy-esque narrative experience with Her Story-esque puzzle mechanics for you to explore the story and characters of the game. enjoyed how the story unfolded and the overall ambiance. store.steampowered.com/app/3255860/...

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hymer 2000 is a remarkable game that, with minimal resources, manages to tell a full and painful story. About 20 years ago, the novelist Kazuo Ishiguro wrote the book Never Let Me Go. In that painful novel, we followed a group of characters who are clones. They have been bred to provide replacement organs to their donors. They know this and still meekly accept their fate. The novel follows them and shows their full humanity and asks why they accept their fate. It is not an easy question. Hymer…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This plays like a story/novel where you make guesses to unlock parts of the story. It's a bit like "Her Story" in that aspect. The story creates a "dark scifi" world, and does a good job of helping you understand the characters inside that world. The gameplay is to move a character through a pixel environment and items encountered share story elements, and to search keywords to reveal corrupted data chunks of the story. I enjoyed it. Ii used a guide to get the final 2 of 80 corrupted data…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little predictable for people versed in dystopian genre. And with not much game play. But writing is good and pristine, so i don't mind.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fairly short game that can be completed in an afternoon. The puzzle elements are light with much of the gameplay being focused on discovering memories and using keywords to find messages to help unlock more of the map. Besides the nice pixel art, the draw here will certainly be the story with this world being quite the dystopia. While you may have likely seen this type of story elsewhere, I believe it comes together well enough for a strong ending.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great short story
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's mostly an interactive novel and if you want to 100% it then there seems to be an element of bruteforcing the search (or following a guide if there is one) at the very end.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great short story, told in an interesting way!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is rare for me to leave a review for a game, but I just couldn't stop my heart from beating praise for this one. Very few games have hit me quite as hard as this one did and I don't say that lightly. The story is quite honestly perfect, and the delivery methods are ingenious, elevating what would otherwise be a walking simulator by making the best way to get more information to pay close attention to what you already have. This is honestly a masterclass in the storytelling that can be…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good 3 hour thought-provoking, sad story
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not packing much in the way of twists but it will hook and hurt you with a touching story and a sweet simple soundtrack that works so well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple yet fantastic game. 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not what I was expected but a lovely game none the less!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic narrative game with a powerful and emotional story that you have to slowly uncover, piece by piece, with some gameplay clearly inspired by "Her Story". Great pixel art.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is mindblowing! It reminds me of "Her Story" in the way you uncover the story behind it. But it has more than that. In "Her Story" you only have a screen where finding secrets searching with key words. In Hymer2000 this is just one part of the puzzle. You also have a walking sim part, a collectionable set and a lot of other programs to manage in your game PC. It has blown my mind to see such an small indie game doing things so good and delivering and excellent game with a meaningful…
