60 of 201 · most liked firstI genuinely suspect I'm missing a big portion of this game. As in I feel it's there, but I can't find it. It's got to be there, right? A game that sells for £15.99 CANNOT just be two relatively short scenarios AND NOTHING ELSE. Two relatively short scenarios that are designed to force you into playing quickly, due to frustrating limiting mechanics. I beat both without ever using 2/5 kinds of dice in the game. I literally saw no use to them, when I had bigger problems. Maybe they make it much…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really really want to like this game. I played for 4 hours even though I knew I was pretty bad at it. Being able to pause and manipulate the dice was a must for me and I found that option incredibly helpful. I will not continue playing, not unless the tutorials and encyclopedia get better. Biggest gripes: No way to search for an existing building/ buildings aren't distinct enough - The visuals are nice and I like the art style but the buildings do not look unique enough. Did I start…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has an identity crisis. It evokes board games (worker placement games) and risk management games because of the dice mechanics, but once you play it, you sadly realize this is mostly a RTS-Survival game. Such a disappointment. It's not objectively bad, there's a lot of love and ideas in it, but the core gameplay loop ruins the fun. Rolling dice and placing them is interesting and strategic, but they had put f*cking timers everywhere to make it a convoluted RTS. What was the point of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are many stupid comments on the recommendation board here that miss the point. The game is exactly as advertised, and while not perfect it fits just fine into its cost bracket. You want to see what this game is like? Just read the Store Page. It's all there. Most stuff people are complaining about come from not reading and understanding the Page, or overblowing minor things. The low down: You are something like a hamster on a wheel, and to move ahead you need to build, and to build you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept is SO good, but the whole experience just isn't much fun, for reasons that I can't really put my finger on. The core conceit is that you are in charge of a colony, and your people are represented by dice. Each die is a person. That person's profession dictates what abilities they'll have on their six faces. You roll them, and deploy them to do tasks that match the face that comes up. And then you can do crazy stuff like levelling up faces on a die, or combine multiple dice to get…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Highly polished game with good core mechanics.. But it lacks the quality of life features a game of this scale relies on to be playable. There's a good game hiding in here, but as-is I wouldn't recommend it to the general populace.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wonder if it's because I haven't played enough of it, but the first half an hour left me really underwhelmed and bored. What I thought I'd be doing: rolling dice to build up a city, with the randomness making me adapt as I build. What I'm actually doing: rolling dice to power buildings, which damages the dice, then healing dice in the cookhouse, then repeating the whole sequence again and again. And everything's on a slow timer rather than turn-based, which means I spend too much time…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played and beat the game once, with the default ruler. It was fine. After that, however, it just didn't seem like an experience I cared to repeat. The alternative rulers and scenarios do not appeal to me now that I know how grindy the game gets once you've established your city and stabilized somewhat. I did not play until after they added the pause function. Knowing that Dice Legacy did not originally have that feature makes me wary of the developers' judgment. I mean, good job adding it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game starts okay at first but then... This game felt limiting when I played it. When I came back and I thought about playing it again, there wasn't anything for me to want to try. It felt like a slog really. The other rulers all feel like deficits, and the other game modifiers ARE all defecits... the thing is when you change up the gameplay for special rule type campaigns you need to give another bonus to make it interesting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An ambitious, if not flawed, genre mashup. This is a downvote that makes me sad because there is a ton of potential here, I just think they tried to do too much at once. There are only two levels in the base game. I heard the DLC adds another, but I do not plan to purchase that. I completed the first level while only tapping into a portion of what the game offers – I only used three of the five dice classes to win and only a handful of available buildings. I was excited to dive in more, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's games like this that I wish had a "Meh"/neutral option. While writing this I've waffled between Yes and No a couple times, and think I've finally landed on giving it a thumbs down. Why? Read on. Dice Legacy can pretty much be summed up by its title - You use dice to build, enhance, and defend a town using dice. With dice you can imagine that there is a lot of RNG/LUCK involved - which you would be right. Sounds fun right? Well.... For me, I felt like the pacing of Dice Legacy was off.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get me wrong when I down voted this game, I love it! It's just I like the concept, but the execution leaves something to be desired. My times trying to play it, but failing at the beach because: 1) Food production is really badly done, because you have to go for 1/6 chance with 2 dices 3 times just to get 4 wheat, then once again to produce the food. (really bad odds) 2) You can't decide to take your time to settle in and then start to expand and fight enemies, because they will…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For semi-casual players like us, the difficult spike was just too punishing. I would encourage the developers to: - allow an enlarged dice pool, - provide some granularity for the difficulty settings (riot time, freeze percentage, etc). With those, plus a whole bunch of QoL updates, it would be a good game - but now it just too taxing for players like us.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is nice to see something fresh and new. Unfortunately it is unsurprising that it gets thumbs down from a lot of people because it fails to be what they thought it was. It is amazing that we live in a time where we can make amazing products that are perfect for a smaller audience - and that they can sometimes fail to find that audience because they are reviewed by people who aren't in the audience. I haven't played much but I am impressed by this game, it feels great. My issues: I have to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very simple review. No need to get complicated. At first you get addicted to the game seeing its potential. But has you progress into the game a lot of stupid sh*t happens. Like winter in the middle of summer. The game is design to piss you off and make you suffer after you get addicted. Yo later realize most of the game is just not playable. Very poor design in balance.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've just finished my first full game of Dice Legacy (by which I mean, the first one I've played to the end - I've actually started and re-started about 6 times in order to implement new things I'd learnt along the way!) The game took me a bit of time to get into, but once I did I really enjoyed it. There's lots to juggle at once - gathering resources, improving your dice, fending off attacks, keeping an eye on weather conditions/winter - so there's never a dull moment. Once you've built your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just play Axes and Acres instead. It's the same concept, except way better executed and cheaper (if you can stand to look at it).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It seems like the game has gotten a few updates since I played it, but I followed the development and was a part of the development server long enough to not give it a fourth/fifth chance. Many testers and early players had the same complaints, they went mostly ignored or answered with "this is how it's supposed to be." So keeping in mind it's been a LONG time since I've played, and the game could have changed since then, here's my late-to-the-party review. -Resources are finite, meaning a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Roll dice, fit them into slots. It's a worker placement game with a lot of moving parts. The core game is fun, with lots of ways to upgrade your dice with different uses for the different faces and higher values you can acquire. There's also a lot of scenario and difficulty options that provide a lot of replay value. What turned me off of the game is the mechanic where you "ascend" a die so it can be used in a later game. You can make a dice very powerful before you ascend it, though it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like waiting and doing nothing? Do you like the idea rolling dice till they almost break to get the 1 thing you need so you can wait 15 seconds as its used and then 30 seconds while its healed? DO YOU WANT TO WAIT 60 REAL LIFE SECONDS FOR 2 DICE TO REPRODUCE?! Then you are a very uninteresting person. I honestly do not know how this game came to be or how anyone can call it engaging. I spent my entire play time essentially waiting around for things to happen. things happening is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is like Overcooked, and not in a good way. You send your dice out doing the most mundane tasks on repeat. Oh there's a forest with 40 wood? Hope you enjoy clicking on that forest 40 times. You will question why these kinds of tasks can't be automated, but that's the point. The gameplay loop is that if you need 40 wood, you will click on a forest 40 times. You will wait 30 seconds and a dice roll in between each click. What will you do in the 30 seconds while you wait? Find other…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's been a long time since I've rage quit a game but this unbalanced nightmare made it happen. Quick you have 7 seconds to put 7 combat dice against these raiders, oh and it's going to repeat every 20-30 seconds. Cookie Clicker requires less constant clicking and frantic activity that this game. Constantly scroll around the map looking for your buildings, run out of key resources like stone and iron with no way to convert. No, just unfortunately no. This is a fun and silly concept but the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hoping it was more like a roguelike exploration. I got this game for less than $2, but honestly, its not a happy purchase even at that. The issue, its a real time strategy. It feels like it wants to be a turn based. You start with only 5 dice, and RNG can help you pad out your runtime if you happen to have some hunting grounds nearby. So the game tells you the way its intended to be played is with no pause activated, but jeez, the upgrading RTS tier systems factors into the dice as well.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 this game makes me want to Die all jokes aside its soooooo boring. rolling dice over and over to get the one thing you want think it would be far more fun if the dice gave you the resources and how you build would affect how many of that type of dice would be rolled. 71% of people have the first achievement, the most basic thing you get before you even finish the tutorial. 34% have the next one this should tell you all you need to know about the player base
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some cool ideas, but the micro managing is really obnoxious -- especially as you grow. As some people said before, could have been fun if it was turn based instead of real time; but the flurry real time attacks becomes extremely tedious after a short time. Then when you get a random blizzard in the summer, and youre constantly moving from one spot to the next to get food, heal, heat, chop wood. fight incoming attackers, get herbs, repair, and on and on -- just gets to be to much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a strange but very compelling game. A scrolling land is revealed before you a bit like Arthur C Clarke`s Rendezvous with Rama. You start will with 5 dice - all "peasants". These are placed onto locations to gain materials which are then used to build stuff, which can improve and change the dice. It`s very hard I am finding but I am enjoying it greatly. Not really a real time action game - you can pause it to think - more of an avant guarde board game. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dice building, city building, resource gathering, survival, roguelike elements, extremely accessible and easy to play with just a mouse along with some great music and nice visuals; if any of that sounds appealing to you, I think there's a very good chance you'll enjoy this game! A fun and relatively relaxing game that has its tense moments and key decisions. I've been enjoying it "the way it was envisioned" as the settings indicate - on normal difficulty in real-time mode with no pause,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is particularly ambitious, but it definitely misses it's mark. The gameplay focuses around rolling various "classes" of dice and placing them in buildings and locations to harvest resources or perform actions, with every action having a timer. Build new buildings, expand your territory, gather new dice and upgrade your current ones, and eventually defeat The Other. While the Roll->Place part of the game is a delight, every action is keyed to a timer, and once the timer is done, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I kept giving it more tries, but I can't seem to get past the starting area. What little I get to play isn't that fun. I haven't seen 80% of the tech tree because people keep revolting against me. I guess I must be bad, but after five attempts I just have to say it's not great. It's okay. Costs as much as a Big Mac, about as fulfilling.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think a lot of the complaints must be outdated. I see things like its a active system, when it defaults to pause enabled; all actions are available in pause. Regardless i am having fun. I am enjoying exploring the game unfolding. Very clean, very playable, no crashes. Enjoying the game getting harder the more forward i move in the map. Haven't got stomped. Almost killed my self twice. Perfect! Game is basically the same as stacklands, but your people are dice that produce random resources…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dice Legacy is like playing a solo board game. Resource management and straightforward strategy with a hint of luck i that each of your "workers" is a dice, and you need to roll the right function in order to perform it. Unlike anything I've played before, exceptionally difficult and frustrating (have not "completed" the first level yet), but landing perfectly in the zone for stimulating the boardgamer cortex and hooking you in.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game. The mechanics are unique and even though its dice it does not feel random. You can customise each dice and make them for how you want to play. Highly recommended if you like board games and having fun. I did receive the game for free but I would have bought it if I did not.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice idea, but extremely boring after a couple of hours and way too simple to keep playing more than once. Very easy to figure out how to beat pretty much every level (far as I can tell). Just keep repeating the same thing each level and you will beat them time and time again without any problems.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reminds me of good time playing board games with friends. It was fun for the first few hours but it got repetitive very soon despite all the different game modes. Nonetheless, a good game to relax on.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →an interesting concept that feels rather boring to play sadly
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a weird one for me. I enjoyed myself for 10 hours, so it's definitely a positive review. The core is quite fun and unique: a resource management game where you're constantly trying to make do with how the dice roll, because re-rolling them is expensive. However, I feel this is also a very flawed game. A lot of the progression is built around roguelike systems, with ascending dice, losing progress when you fail, etc. But a single match takes several hours, which makes it a poor fit for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the mashup that I respect and want to love because I enjoy dice and roguelites, but now that I'm in the mid game, I am realizing that certain ways the different genres are being mashed up don't go well together for me, and I don't think they will jive for most gamers either. So I unfortunately can't recommend this overall. Here is what you need to know related to all that to see if you are still interested in the game: +Dice rolling, locking, and multi-pickup is intuitive +Auto-select…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty split to pick the recommendation. The game has every potential to be great but keeps falling short unfortunately. Yeah, you can play it, it gives you some thinking, some challenge -- even a fair variety with missions -- but it is simply not fun as it is. It was designed (probably) as dexterity clicker, the main challenge being to juggle with the dice in the limited space and try to see all the places at once. That's not my bag at all, and seems neither fit for most audience. So the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly "dice legacy" is very slow and grindy, leaves too many open questions and fails to develop any kind of excitement. The game looks amazing, which is what pulled me in despite the mixed reviews. "Can't be too bad", right? Sadly, I was proven differently. When you first start playing you can only select one single campain, all other options have to be unlocked. This campain starts out very slow and also doen't explain half of what you would want to know. Many tool tips only pop up after…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Apparently having to rely on the roll of a dice for resource generation in a 4X game actually isn't fun. And when the core concept is bad, the game designers can't really do a whole lot.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, but only provisionally. I think it would be better as a turn based game rather than a real time one, the screen is simultaneously too busy and too simple, and it becomes very very tedious figuring out how to manage your dice and resources.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate the upvote / downvote system. I don't want to downvote this game. I played it straight for 7 hours, but now I don't want to play it anymore. It clearly has potential, but I have to second what many others have said. It's a bit of a mess of ideas. I personally really enjoy the city-building gameplay and the dice idea adds a lot of fun imo. The class system is not very balance though. Many class die are too situational, and I never feel like the idea of the classes are ever fully brought…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have no idea why winter and real time is a function of this game. I just sat there for 5 minutes on the fastest speed waiting for winter to be over so i could harvest wheat again to progress further. The game doesn't reward you for managing correctly for winter or even punishes you beyond just wasting your time. The overall design of the game lacks the polish for a worker placement board game that has been a staple of board games and also lacks the immediacy of any real time elements despite…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →0.8 hrs Review: I researched this game quite a bit before buying it. It seems it got a lot of bad reviews when it first came out due to the default game-play not allowing pause. I avoided it in that state. But now that I'm playing it (I'm still a 'noob') I find it a very relaxing experience. I insta-pause as soon as anyone finishes a task, then figure out what I want to do. None of the frantic insanity the developer seemed to want to torture everyone with when the game first came out. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first game I have both returned after playing for a short period and am giving a thumbs up. The design and concept is excellent. Using dice on a city builder roguelike is a wonderful idea; unfortunately the UI I found painful and rendered the game unplayable for me. For others with better hands then mine that is likely not an issue and especially if you can grab it on sale is worth checking out. Be warned though, the gameplay feels a bit less smooth and the screen is difficult to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dice Legacy is an underrated board game that feels like it was made by people that don't play board games. That means interesting ideas marred by "HOW DID THEY NOT SEE A PROBLEM WITH THIS" design decisions. It's not clear at all if holding dice unused on inactive buildings to go above the dice limit is a core strategy the designers intended or cheating in a way they didn't forsee (but you should totally do it regardless). Enemy waves seem relentless at times, and dice freezing in winter is a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An odd little game. Playing on the settings advised by the dev (that is, difficulty 3 of 5, and NO PAUSE), it provides a surprisingly challenging resource management / colony builder sim, with individual games lasting ~1-3 hours. The dice mechanic takes some getting used to, but reveals to be a very interesting and clever take: You want to use your dice as they fall, as they already consumed the partial food you constantly produce for them, yet dice placed will take a minute to complete their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not my cup of tea... Beautiful graphics, models, UI, original game idea, but just no a compelling game play experience. Should be turn based, time ticking while you try work out how to use random dice on the map just doesn't make sense. Game tuning is out, winter is too long, and most structures need to many dice. Everything needs to be micromanaged and its just not fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game. I probably have about 4 hours of actual game play in it, and I've giving up - it is just TEDIOUS.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More Dice, I like, great tabletop-esque experience. Experimentation is rewarded as game implies. Would enjoy some shortcuts being a bit more obvious and perhaps centered around the mouse. Also would love some more passive scenarios that trade in the negative events/actions with something different, but it would be tricky to pull this off without ruining the simplicity and accessibility. Also, GREAT pricetag.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is definitely a Marmite game. I think you really need to be on the spectrum to truly appreciate it. After 16 hours I barely managed to finish each of the 3 scenarios on the default settings with the DLC one being by far the most challenging. Not entirely sure if this was due to any particular intelligent strategies I had developed or just the pure dumb luck of the dice finally falling in my favour. I think you could spend many more hours exploring the games deeper complexities on the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Repetitive. Boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's okay, originally I did not like that it was real-time, but then I realized that you can pause the game and still control the dice while paused, so that is nice. Not a fan of the "tutorial" mode where you have to discover what to do first before you can see the instruction page in the online manual; I believe just telling you before and then you do is better way to teach. Overall the mechanics are good, but I am glad I got it on sale because not sure how much I will play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I saw the reviews of this and still decided to give it a try I got the game for around a dollar and the some change .... I I still feel like I got cheated. The game resolves like a small mindset rpg without the good rpg elements and is so grindy and ill manage that it feel like it just did barely enough not to be a mobile game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the idea. It has potential, but over all I can't recommend this game. It's interesting for 1.5 hours then loses steam. Get it on sale for $5 if you want to see for yourself. $15 is ludicrous speed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love rolling dice, but I see no legacy. I like boardgame, I really want to play it when it first come out, but once I saw many negative review, it keep my away from this game. Now, after a few updates and a lot of discount, so I try. Turn out it is not bad as I think it will be. I also have some trouble with the real time aspect of the game at first, because I don't have enough time to read all the effect, but after the first game, I think it's fine. The only thing I hate about this game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I took a risk when buying this game because I almost never buy a game that has a score less than positive. However, after looking at the negative reviews and saw that most of them were commenting on difficulty, specifically the difficulty of resource management or the fact that dice eventually get destroyed if you do not use the proper mechanics to maintain them I thought it might still be worth a go as difficulty is something I find enjoyable in a game. Once I started playing though I became a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun idea. Well executed. It is really engaging to balance the dice - watching to make sure they don't break, taking chances when a threat arises, holding on to the right powers for the right time. Very engaging. My only drawback is that it takes a very long time to play. At the beginning, every die placement matters - and even later in the game a single face could still matter. So there is a lot of micromanaging. It wouldn't be that bad except that this game ends up being a bit of a marathon. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No. Not at all. lack of variety with strategy, short playtime, low visibility, lots of meaningless choices, lots of inconvenience. Total devastation. No need to worry that orange dice unhappiness. just keep breeding and change into green and blue. red or merchant and purple is simply useless.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a shame: the game is very original and interesting but I can't recommend to anyone who doesn't have an excessively high IQ (which most of us don't) and all the time in the world because you live on some sickness benefit so can put in the hours upon hours that every mission demands and don't care to learn anything else during this lifetime. After trying to complete, what is pretty much, the tutorial stage seven times over and failing this game grew very very boring. The biggest problem is…
