Lester is a middle-aged forensic scientist, divorced with two kids and a tragic past. Fianna (nickname Fi) and Val are 19-year-old college students. Their disparate worlds are about to collide. Getting Started When you first start the game, you can choose between light and dark versions. Both versions still deal with adult themes, but if you choose dark…

The year is 1993 in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ called Birmingham, England and a horrid murder. A young man has been found dead after reports of screaming coming from an abandoned house. You play as Lester, a forensic investigator who happens to be on call tonight. Upon arriving at the crime scene, you notice some officers standing outside on the lawn, so you head over to them. After…

I liked the characters and enjoyed the story, humorous but sometimes with a darker touch. The length of the main story is about 6 hours (if you do not get lost looking for stuff too much). There is a bonus chapter which should keep you busy for an extra hour at most. That chapter reveals some rather interesting things about certain characters of the main game. I'm hoping for a sequel soon!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing Pilgrim Adventures games for years and they never disappoint me. As someone who's into both forensics and magic, I feel like this game is made for me. I had fun doing spells and investigating clues. I also LOVE the witchy tunes and the minor key christmas songs from the bonus chapter. 10/10 from me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Author's note: Every single ending was witnessed at the time the review was written for the sake of providing an informed opinion. (Every single achievement was also earned during that time as well.) TL;DR 10/10: The greatest casual horror game ever made? This is the only exception to my saying about RPGMaker games that goes "if it doesn't feature a redhead named Gail, it can go straight to hell"! (Never mind the fact that like the Space Pilgrim Saga, A Sceptic's Guide to Magic is made by the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I win this game from https://discord.com/invite/mvKnpva This little game is made by RPG makers, but actually more like a point & click adventure games. There is no any RPG battle in this game, You only collect items and ingredients and craft spells. The story is interesting, too. Although it is tagged with nudity, but those pixel nudity from RPG maker is actually means no nudily. LOL.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I tried to play this game two times, after I deleted it, because I discovered that there is a guide for it. I dont know, maybe I am just tooooo stupid for this game, or it's interface and story is not intuitive at all, but I really had to do every step only with the help of this guide... So there is no fun at all. I thought that it will only help me to understand what I have to do, but it's not a real playing , when you have to play , just after reading what you, actually, have to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another excellent game from Pilgrim Adventures. Dark, Gritty, and with a fast pace, the story more than makes up for any shortcomings. https://youtu.be/dvQYy_O68lo https://youtu.be/XJKfhKIGS18 Adventure games in RPG Maker are notorious for a few things, usually none of them good, but A Sceptic’s Guide to Magic manages to, for the most part, side step some of these issues to create a wonderful, dark, and entertaining game. You play as Lester, a Forensic investigator who is called to a grizzly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another hidden gem by Pilgrim Adventures, A Sceptic's Guide to Magic provides a well written and intriguing story with multiple endings and fun, fleshed-out adventure gameplay (point&click style). Recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't believe I managed to finish it in one sitting. Hooboy, Pilgrim Adventure did it again! It's another good point and click adventure by them I really enjoy the stories, and they keep me hooked from start to finish. I love the upgraded graphics, music, and sounds compared to the old game. You've really come a long way since the Space Pilgrim's Saga.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you played the Space Pilgrim series from the same developer, you'll very likely enjoy this game too. As with that series, the emphasis is on the story- you can expect quality, mature writing and a fun and endearing cast. And like those games, this is an adventure game made in RPGMaker that plays similarly to classic point-and-click adventure games. This game crafts a rich system of lore and witchcraft for its world, and there's a compelling mystery to solve to boot. Definitely, definitely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got the game before release date and streamed it. First off, I want to say I'm not a huge fan of point-and-click adventures. They've never been my style. That being said, this is what I think of the game after about 2 hours of playtime. The story seems pretty straightforward. The options for mature and "light" content is useful to stream if you want to control your content (or if you don't like blood and nudity). The dialogue has some humor to it so at least it isn't too monotonous. The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fantastic point n' click adventure made in RPG Maker! The story is about an investigation into the gory death of a person found in an abandoned house. Who is he? Why was he in that house? What was he doing? What lead up to his death? The person checking into these questions is a forensic investigative scientist. As he unlocks the many mysteries that unfold, he discovers something about himself he thought he could never be. Love that spells and locations are unlocked as the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got a key from the Developer a while ago but only just got around to checking this out. Honestly? This game has genuinely surprised me. I thought it'd be a typical RPG with visual novel cut scenes, boy was I wrong! The horror aspects and the tricks the developer has placed in the game is bound to keep anyone on their toes! I won't go into detail since I don't want to spoil anything, but if you can get the game I highly recommend you do so!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thumbs up! I liked the story about a skeptical scientist learning to cast spells in order to solve a murder. A lot of people won’t bother with this game since it was made with RPG Maker, but I thought the gameplay was okay. You don’t have to worry about grinding up through different levels, because there is no combat. Most of the challenge is in finding ingredients for the spells. Some ingredients weren’t easy to find, but if you get stuck, there’s a walkthrough available. The achievements are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another great adventure game from Pilgrim Adventures. It shows that good writing can overcome everything including using RPG Maker.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun little paranormal mystery adventure and a comfy way to spend a few evenings. Recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just completed the game. It was a really interesting story that kept me hooked from start to finish. Offers multiple endings, good gameplay, nice graphics and good believable characters. Hope to see more from this game, either a squeal or some more DLC chapters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An enjoyable story, fun characters and a decent length combine to make this one of the better games I've seen made in this style. If you are a fan of magical themes and murder mysteries, I recommend this game fully.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a really fun and easy game! It's a shame I don't see more people reviewing or playing this. Gameplay is simple, the story is pretty good and the characters are very fun. Definitely worth a shot if you haven't played it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun detective game, well worth the price, if you don't mind the pixel graphics. The only downside is that I felt it was too focused on the shock value and being "adult" rather than enriching the story and building the relationships between the characters. Towards the end also it was too much run and search for ingredients, instead of talking with characters and discovering clues, seeing this is an adventure game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty damm good game, really liked how many items there where to find and really liked the story, im really glad I got this game. Worth the small amount of cash they ask for and you won't regret it. Have a good day!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game took me by surprise. It's really good. Great story. Great music. Great little adventure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Told my bro magic is fake, he turned my six pack into kittens. Beat it in one pizza, now I believe in cards and quantum crap. Best cure for boring skeptic bones.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amusing puzzle solver, you have to think things through about where you saw items and check things out thoroughly but not a lot of super repetitive grinding. Fun story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although I've played and enjoyed the developers' three games in the Deed series, I didn't know about their other games (including this one) until recently. The Deed games are all about combining items, locations and time-lines to bring about a perfect crime for reward, revenge and/or to frame another character. A Sceptic's Guide to Magic is a much more linear RPG pixel-graphics game in that there is only one pathway through it until the final stages when choices leading to different (and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've had this in my library for so long and just found this. I've loved so many of the Pilgrim Adventures games, and this is no exception. Unlike most RPG Maker games that are literally RPGs, this is a detective mystery, where you have to interact with objects in order to advance the story and figure the mystery out. The best part is how well this is written. Each character has a very unique personality, and it's really like "reality" (outside of the whole dark magic aspect). A great game,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Sceptic's Guide to Magic is a light and enjoyable adventure game. Well, the topic isn't light. It's an urban fantasy/horror that features a couple of gory murders and it's your job to investigate them. Fortunately, the writing is just as good as all the other Pilgrim adventures, which means all the characters have believable personalities so they're generally pretty friendly and pleasant to chat with. It never comes across as a gratuitous misery simulator like more grimdark horrors. If…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a 2D top down retro pixel JRPG/RPG Maker styled adventure game with a supernatural/crime theme. The developers claim to be using point and click mechanics similar to LucasArts/Sierra adventures but this is a blatant lie, the game is a JRPG ripoff using a crappy retro pixel Final Fantasy look. It's inexplicable why the developers are so out of touch with both retro and modern gaming at the same time. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good game, you go back and forth from one location to another and either get some items or use them on something to advance the plot. The plot is rather good. Problem: it has so many loading times which are also long, it's as if I played Witcher 1 all over again! It takes less time sometimes to load a Witcher 3 save than it takes for the loading screen to disappear after changing locations!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed the setting for this and the characters. The plot starts a little slow but has a few twists along the way to keep it interesting. Feels like it would make a good TV show. The art style and music is also good. The downsides for me were the controls could be improved (WASD for movement) and I ended up using a guide towards the end to speed it up otherwise you can get stuck spending most of the time searching for an item. Overall I would recommend I'll check out the developers…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good night's entertainment, and the multiple endings do add some replay value. All in all, money well spent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →⭐ Recommended Made by the same makers as Space Pilgrim, and you can tell. Same adventure-style gameplay of searching for items and working out how to use them. The game warned me about its content up front and even gave me a choice to tone down the nudity and the graphical violence. Off course I chose to tone it down, and credit to the makers for offering that option. But honestly, I don't like the fact that this nudity and all the other nasty stuff is in the game in the first place. Being…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I quite enjoyed my time with this. I have some frustrations with the storytelling that I won't try to talk around here. But it really is a nice time for what it is, even with that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm generally not a fan of these slow paced point and click/puzzle games but I found this game to be pleasantly surprising especially for an RPGmaker title. You feel like this is going to be a generic murder plot with caricature type characters but they end up getting fleshed out in a very satisfying way. The script is overall pretty solid hitting dramatic notes when it's needed without feeling too much of a downer and also injects some humor that although not landing 100% of the time I found…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →boring and stupid story.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Sceptic’s Guide to Magic, developed by Pilgrim Adventures and published by GrabTheGames, is a narrative-driven indie adventure that blends detective work, occult mystery, and pixel-art storytelling into a single experience. Set in 1990s Birmingham, the game places players in the role of Lester Chapman, a forensic investigator whose life takes a sharp turn when a ritualistic murder draws him into a hidden world of witches, sorcery, and forces he never believed existed. Lester has always…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't get far into the story yet but I'm definitely interested in it so far. The graphics are cute and I like the characters/conversations. I need answers so I'm going to continue playing it for sure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An excellent example of what someone with talent and dedication can do with RPG Maker! You have a mystery to solve and are slowly (or maybe quickly, all things considered!) drawn into a world of magic when a young man is murdered. You gather ingredients in a sort of puzzle-solving method, and then craft various spells to uncover the mystery. Four different endings and a bonus chapter as well! Honestly this game is a steal at full price, and an absolute must purchase at any sale price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed playing this, but I do have some mixed feelings. Birmingham as a setting was unusual, but I liked it. A nice change of pace from every UK setting being London-centric instead. British rant here spoilered: Just a couple things, we have electric kettles here so we don't need to boil water in a pan. No one says 'a spot of tea', and I'm pretty damn sure no one says 'God save the queen' unironically. These anachronisms made some interactions pretty cringey for me. Latin isn't…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When this game was out, I was kind of disappointed this was not another episode of Pilgrim. However, I support many if not all titles from Pilgrim Adventure, I still purchased it. The story is fascinating and the humor is still there. The puzzles are not too difficult. And I do like quirky Fi and Val. After several hours I finished it and wanted for more. I love the story as much as Pilgrim's. I hope this can develop further more into its own franchise.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most of the Pilgrim Adventures have nice characters, nice stories. Nice little games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great! Although it kept crashing in Chapter 7, happened 6 times... Other than that I would recommend you look at someones walk through so you don't have to spend hours trying to figure out all the different keys and mouse clicks to properly complete the game. The story line is interesting and who doesn't like old graphics and pixelated nudes LOL
