HAPPY SAIN† SHEOL
Developer HUNGRYCULT
Two thousand years ago, the Pestis Disaster swept through the land, corrupting all living things and making it to difficult to live on the land. Having touched the darkest darkness the world has seen, one must now face the dazzling light. Thus I pose this question. Whose wings did I see that day? From the Steam store page

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developer announced the 1.1.2 patch more than a year ago and never released it, you can check your game as evidence and you'll see it's still version 1.1.1. Now, after that year almost passed they announced 1.3.0 (notice the jump in versions) will release in november and after it releases they'll write the patch notes, promising to explain what's happening. Well, 3 work days left for your deadline, so it's time for a review. The dev & localization team massively censored the game to make…

And an ordinary boy who slowly goes insane and becomes the biggest jerk you’ve ever seen—and that's putting it lightly. First off, I spent about 30 hours playing the game before discovering that there’s a patch that restores some of the cut gore scenes. I also learned that this game originally contained more R18 content with some pretty disturbing illustrations. I’m new to visual novels, but I picked up this game because of its cute art…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maya Elbeth is an absolute angel. And I'll tell you how I know. It's because I've seen the signs all along. She has wings that are invisible to the human eye. That's not a supposition--it's a fact. I know this because there's been times when she's wanted to fly. It'd be heartbreaking if she had no wings and wanted to soar through the air, right? She really is adorable. She's truly an angel. She is my beloved, Maya Elbeth. Her angel face resembles someone else. Maya Elbeth is an absolute angel.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am traumatized in the most blissful way imaginable. I knew I'd love this ever since first seeing the trailer and it didn't disappoint, for sure. This is the type of story which urges you to disable most senses of morality in order to enjoy it to the fullest, yet (in my case, at least) without eventually fully desensitizing the reader, causing repeated unsettlement in different ways instead. I adore the depths of various (dark/contemplative) themes it delves into and found it imposing how…

unlabelledView post →slow start but im liking it edit: finished the game, haven't done ng+ yet but my god it is really really good. The entire game feels extremely janky with translation errors and some moments that seem to make little to no sense. The first half of the game is extremely slow and extremely polarising, around 10 percent of the story would be insane and exciting while the other 90 percent is mundane and confusing. However, I truly truly truly love love this game, after around day 5 or 6 the story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maya Elbeth is an angel. And I'll tell you why. First of all, she's always looking down at the ground or up at the sky. Oh, and she hates standing against the wind. She hardly ever speaks up first, but always wants others to notice her. Her dainty fingertips are often covered in dirt or soot, yet her fingernails, resembling tiny grains of rice, always smell like flowery soap. She never makes eye contact with people for very long, but she always listens without interrupting, no matter the nature…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, that was a fantastic visual novel! I feel so sad that this story has such a negative connotation to it due to the original author censoring and rewriting many of the scenes in the game. It is intelligent, poignant, full of beautiful prose, and has amazing vibes. I can definitely see the Sayonara ‘O Oshiete inspirations throughout the whole work. I loved its exploration of sin and repentance for its main theme, and how it explored different aspects of it through the various "heroine…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MC has got to be the worst person you could possibly meet. The real horror is having to play as him
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a cutesy visual novel where no egregious nor ethically dubious crimes against humanity happen whatsoever - yup 100% just cute anime nuns talking about boys and having frilly pink pillow fights during sleepovers. 10/10 experience!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who played this game at launch and helped fund development, I feel inclined to write a review. Frankly, there are a lot of issues still--primarily bugs and typos, but at the time of writing an upcoming patch has been announced which will hopefully remedy some of my grievances. The characters are all a bit troupe-y which may or may not be a deal breaker for some players, though visual novels typically fall into those traps so it shouldn't be an issue if you're an avid reader. They're…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to review this game because I feel like most people have slept on it. At first, it may seem like a visual novel that doesn't care about the player, with many events unfolding without your awareness. While I can't deny that there are areas for improvement in the script (the decision to remove the sex scenes after the english translation was completed led to some incoherent lines and you may find some typos), I don’t think this detracts too much from the experience as, to me, the real…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2000 years ago a disaster swept through the land and corrupted everything it touched. Those properties are still lingering to this day. Very cute but deceiving, with a reminiscence to Saya no Uta. It starts rather slow, but the premise and interactions keep it interesting. The protagonist is a mental wreck and thus very prone to the corruption. He spirals deep into insanity and violence as the plot moves on. There are routes for most of the girls, but they usually dont receive the nicest…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like you fall deeper into some crazier stuff the more you read. Paradise routes fill in more of the missing links the initial story feeds you. Found Hell within Paradise; would go back tbh
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Happy Saint Sheol is an underrated VN. Not a masterpiece by any means, but it definitely deserves more attention. The visuals and the music are top-notch — Rav^2 is a really talented artist — and the overall Christian aesthetic is really cool. Story-wise, I’d give it maybe a 7/10, but in my opinion the visuals carry the game. The VN itself is a denpa story with an unreliable protagonist who, in most routes, spirals into insanity and turns into genuinely the worst human being ever — until he…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A horrifying visual novel that covers many interesting topics! I've played many visual novels but had yet to really play one with such religious themes and I can say I definitely enjoyed it, I feel as though I cannot say much without spoiling it, but if you're someone who likes great soundtracks, beautiful and cute art and character design, pain and angst... mental health, psychological horror, diversity, interpretation, religious themes etc.. I'd say it's great at all of portraying all of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Be warned, those with a fragile heart—this is not a story for everyone and will consume your soul if you let your guard down. Honestly, the game at this price is a steal. I had some grievances with the script and the translation, but it didn’t stop me from having a wonderful time. I can’t wait for the prequel and the side story. That said, an upcoming update was just announced that will flesh out some scenes, so I’d recommend waiting for it before starting the game to get the full experience.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this VN and i will be looking foward to more of the creator (i'll write a proper review once i finish everything)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →absolutely adore this one, but i shouldn't have to troubleshoot a VN. thankfully the newly added cheat menu lets you circumvent the issues. english script is littered with grammatical and spelling errors. nothing too horrible, but still disappointing and lazy. still worth your time though! the art and story are truly lovely
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm giving this a 4/10. There's some good stuff here, but the bad slightly outweighs the good. First, the whole angel things going on is dumb as hell. Honestly, the MC could solve a lot of his problems if he would quit viewing his clumsy coworker as an angel. This absurd view is responsible for getting his moronic self killed more than a few times. Like, come on man. The exit is right there! Who gives a damn about the chapel? Now for a good thing: The blond chick kisses the MC early on, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great visual novel, can't wait to see all the routes
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is censored, even with the uncut patch. Regardless of that it's pretty interesting, though I felt it was a bit shallow. Probably because I only got one ending, but I do like the art and the MC is neat. EDIT: finished all the endings, opinion improved a bit. Claire is my favorite character, also I don't like how much of a ♥♥♥♥ the MC is to Cue. Personally I felt a lot of the plot points were were obvious and on the nose but it was estill enjoyable!

Rather than relying on action or traditional gameplay mechanics, the experience is built around immersive…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i liked happy saint sheol! as someone who's not particularly used to eroguro, this game was a still a good experience. the religious, sin and repentance themes were 100% my cup of tea, and the universe where happy saint sheol takes place has a lot of really interesting lore elements. this visual novel is very unique and the cast is likeable. my favorite characters have to be securett, gregor, grette and haku. i really enjoyed the maya common route, haku's route, securett's route and finally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →looking forward to the other two games. love haku
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a decent novel, not that long. A shame that dev had no balls and decided to neuter it. And in a quite horrible way, if you're asking me. So, overall its plot is nice and interesting, heroines are appealing and genuinely interesting, same goes for their routes. Story theme is cool indeed, i always enjoyed stuff about religions and such, not gonna spoil much though. I'd say while endings not really shocking, they are actually deep in some way and force you to think about certain topics.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this what Depression^2 feels like?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story has some issues with text typos and minor inconsistencies in the writing, but all of it can be overlooked for the raw, visceral and at times highly gruesome experience that it provides. (10/10, got the worst ending on my first playthrough) CURSE YOU HUNGRYCULT CURSE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a lovely game, with retro looks and cool art... Or at least it would be lovely if it wasn't so dark. It's dominated by psychological horror and even violence. Every single story ends up tragically. I really recommend reading all the different girls' routes, as they offer more insight into the setting, what's happening, and the characters. It all creates an "utsuge" game, where there's only despair. Please don't read while depressed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Belial is the kindest individual you'll ever play as in here. He shows how much he truly loves and respects everyone around him even more in the old Japanese version! 10/10! #lovehim #sonice #sokind #truegoodsamaritan #ilovemaya

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first time I've ever written a review for a steam game, but this visual novel touched me so much that I felt like I had to. Have you've ever wanted to play a game where it feels like the person who you loved the most in the world ripped your heart out and watched as they gently caressed it? Have you've ever wanted to feel a subtle emptiness seeping into your body, a dread inexplicable, and watch a withered flower bloom beneath blood and flesh? If you do, or if you are slightly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ive played and done all the route, from my experience, this game provide a really good story, u probably will get frustrated by the mc behavior during uour play, but overall i give 7/10. there is a lot of thing that i dont quite understand regarding the character ideology such as haku for example, yeah, if u really love the psychological horror aspect of visual novel, this is good to go. also if u have lots of time.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Truly a fascinating game. This is my first time properly reading a "real" visual novel. If you are fine with its grocery list of trigger warnings, this game is imo a very well written VN with one of the best soundtrack, world building and visual art. The game is center around the theme of faith, destiny, sin, and repentance. If you have any experience with Buddhism or Christianity, I think you will find the general concept what the VN talking about very familiar. The translation is quite sloppy…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now that I've actually finished the common route... The visuals and overall aesthetic of this VN do a lot of heavy lifting, and when the writing hits it REALLY hits, but god... Most of the common route felt like such a slog to get through. There may be better things laying in wait on the other routes, but I think my patience was already worn thin enough to not bother with the rest. At least not for now. Still, it's cheap enough that I don't really regret buying it to support an indie author.…
