Cannot even begin to convey how incredible of an experience this was from start to finish. The only downside is I'll now be comparing every open world action rpg I play to this

Exploration remains the soul of the game. Compared with the original, it features a vastly larger map, and its combat system has been tastefully refined. Although its overall scale is smaller than that of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, released around the same…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With the power of Innos, destroy Belier troops of evil! Gothic 2 is a continuation of previous game and this game is huge and developers add huge amount of content, even compare to the first game which was have a good amount of content too, but this game on the different level. Three huge maps, with many interactions, dungeons, quests and a wide variety. But we will get to it, so now I want to talk about all the aspect of the game if they great to set them at pros, if bad to cons of the game.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even without any amount of nostalgia second Gothic plays really well and is a great fun especially coming from Gothic 1 remake. But if you dont want to suffer like i did on couple occasions (Locking yourself out of progression), you better download Union mod as well as community patch.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games ever made! I play this game almost every year just to relive the experience once again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To add workshop support right click on game in library -> properties -> betas -> workshop Best game in the series, and that's including the G1 Remake :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Midnight Mode #15 remains in the realm of fantasy, but it's out of the dungeon and into the open world! I wanted to do something that would play during exploration and got inspired by my favorites, such as Gothic II and some of Zelda's more ambient tracks! ⚔️ #music #gamedev #dungeonsynth #fantasy

And right away, the world feels better. Not just bigger. Better designed. More alive. More layered. Returning to old areas while seeing how things changed was great. Exploration is easily one of Gothic 2’s strongest points. World vs Flow Here’s the thing. Gothic 2 improves a lot over Gothic 1. The world,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →recently played the remake of the first game and i had to know what happened afterwards, still very good and challenging, hope this gets a remake as well. i was not aware of the gothic series before playing the remake and as a big fan of rpg style games i have definitely been missing out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like Gothic 1 - one of the best open world cRPGs ever made. Ahead of its time in terms of immersion: - day and night cycle - weather - full voice over - NPCs go under a roof when it's raining, go to sleep at night and go to work at day - NPCs talk with each other - NPCs react when you draw a weapon, steal, enter their homes or cast spells - NPCs react to your faction and to your armor - monsters fight each other when it makes sense - for instance wolves hunt smaller creatures…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gothic 2 addresses nearly every major complaint I had with Gothic 1: - I encountered almost no bugs this time. - The control scheme is finally functional (though I still recommend installing the GRawInput mod to improve mouse controls). - Inventory management and trading are less cumbersome. - Combat now features proper dodging and a proto lock-on system. A full lock-on would have been preferable, but this is still a significant improvement over the first game and far less frustrating.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gothic II is a timeless classic that any RPG fan should experience. The Gothic series has always had a strong sense of progression and accomplishment, and in this game it is at its strongest. Starting weak, powerless, and with nothing to your name, then ending up a mighty hero makes the journey compelling. Getting there may take a long time and the path may not always be clear, but it is always challenging and rewarding. All of the gameplay aspects have been polished from the first game. No…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played Gothic 2 and NOTR for the first time after over 20 years. Still such a fantasic RPG! And together with some mods like "Gold Remaster", DX11 and Union (plus its many Plugins), it is every much playable and enjoyable compared to other modern games!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gothic 2 Night of the Raven became very fast one of my favourite games. The game has a difficult start, but if you save more often, explore, gather and complete quests as much as possible the rest becomes easier. The architecture, especially in The City Khorinis and Jharkendar are impressive. Great dialogue, fantastic music (especially the Monastery one) and a lot of places to explore.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a must-play for the real RPG fans. A game I will never forget.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100 hours in Witcher 3: completed main story with dlcs 100 hours in Gothic 2: got to the Act 3 (of 6) Great game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved gothic 2 as a kid so replaying it now is super nostalgic. like any other old game thsi needs a Community patch but its not a problem with steam workshop. But now its a unbalanced Mess with the NOTR edition..... No way to make money apart from exploiting the game LP costs more every 10 points. best way to get to 60 stats is with a potion exploit best way to make money is with gold weapon smithing exploit Game is so unbalanced that you can get soft locked at the start of chapter 3 by…

Although it feels more like a massive expansion than a completely different game, the core gameplay has been vastly improved with numerous new features and refinements. This version includes the incredible Night of the Raven expansion, which adds a huge new map to explore and rebalances the entire experience. If you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Main protagonist of the story, ergo Polish immigrant called Bury Zenek, comes back for more to terrorize entire Island of Khorinis. His favourite activities include, but are not limited to: checking pockets of every living being and stealing their cash, beating up hundreds of orcs for nothing more than some experience points, threatening widowed woman for cash and commiting mass genocide of every territorial animal for fur and meat. 11/10 would raid Lester's weed stash again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →runs well on Fedora with Proton 7 and when going to Jharkendar music needs to be turned off. Absolute classic of a game!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, 81.6h on steam to do all I did. - Loved walking around exploring; there are no quest markers or yellow paint anywhere, all quests require you to read/listen to dialogue details and then there's also a questbook, which just gives a general idea of what was already said so there's stuff you actually gotta figure out - Enemy AI is not just walk forward and swing at you, they will also backstep or block attacks when in range, some animals will also sidestep to avoid being hit, although…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I stumbled over this great video essay comparing the game design of Skyrim to one of my all-time favorites Gothic II. It manages to capture why I never felt at home in Skyrim, but long to play a game like Gothic again (minus the misogynistic yank). www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wZE...

unlabelledView post →Playing G2:NoR makes you understand why Piranha Bytes was shut down. It really gives you a clear example where devs don't play their own games and just throw random changes to 'balance' the game. Game is mostly unplayable. You want to join our group in the most basic rank? You have the 'best' armor available? Cool, all you have to do is defeat 3 guys that 1 hit kill you in your best armor. Good luck! After you join you will get a better ♥♥♥♥ armor. Want to use the first crossbow? No…

The open woorld is vast and explorable, filled with interesting characteers, quests, and secrets to discover. The story is engaging, with meaningful choiices that impact the game's outcome. The comba can be difficult, but it's rewarding when you master it. Be prepared to grind and build your character! While the graphics are dated, the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little buggy (Marvin saved me a couple of times), and definitely old, but still one of my favorite RPGs of all time. There is something about going from a wimp who can be killed by a large rat to an uber Demi-God that can defeat all comers, even Dragons! I played the Gothic 1 Remake and just had to have more Gothic, so played this game as well. Recommend the mod that provides quicksaves and also used the Union mod for some general bug fixes and improvements. Highly recommended 9 out of 10…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I played some of the vanilla Gothic 2 game back in the day when I was just a kid, this was my first time with the NotR expansion. And unfortunately it was a bitter yet nostalgic experience. I don't really rememeber the balance of the classic version, I only know that it's considered easier and most of the weapons are easily achiveable with low stats requirements. So having that said I jumped into NotR raw without any 'Internet checks' etc. Boy I was quickly verified that something is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the first game but I honestly can't understand how people get into this one. The atmosphere from the original is gone and the combat added Morrowind RNG with a dumb twist. Instead of missing you do a regular hit which is like 1% of your weapon damage and your true hits are criticals. Enemies have this mechanic as well except the fumbled hits are actual attacks and their criticals outright kill you in 1 hit. It's so insanely different from the first game I can't get my head around why…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favourite games from my childhood. It’s still a very good RPG today. It introduces a lot of improvements compared to the first instalment. I prefer Gothic 1 because of its more interesting storyline and the unique atmosphere of the colony. Gothic 2 is more like a fairly standard fantasy game about fighting dragons.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe THE game of my childhood! I still play it from time to time today. Sure gameplay and grafics are dated nowadays but the rough world with all its a**holes still has its charm today. Looking forward to the remake of the first one and hope this one gets remade as well.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has some great content and quest progression lying underneath an incredibly clunky exterior. If the combat didn't have such a high learning curve, the difficulty ramped up a bit slower, and the interface wasn't terrible, this would be a pretty good game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3626098097
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Might* take some TLC to get it to run. *Might* take some patience to get used to the controls and some of the potential bugs and crashes. Either way - one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Absolutely worth playing, modding and playing again and again and again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the most alive and addicting rpg games I've played and it has the biggest and most complex modding community in any rpg game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am flabbergasted by the intensive activity of this insanely passionate community. I played this game on a physical copy more than 20 years ago, and despite its age and with all the mods and plugins you can apply with a simple click of a button through the Steam workshop, it still looks fantastic and more atmospheric than ever. The already masterful visual style achieved by Piranha Bytes is amplified with the addition of DX11 alongside improved lighting and weather effects, retextured models,…

This game at certain points will test your patience with its weird balancing and enemy placements (sometimes they just went ♥♥♥♥ it drop 20 orcs in there) but taking your time, clearing the map and wisely spending your LP helps you get through the game without too much frustration. The combat can take some getting used to and could potentially be annoying for a bit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The second part of the great Gothic, more quests, more places to go, old and recognizable places remained. Great game, I'd like to see a remake like the first Gothic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"His last order was: 'COME!' And they came. All of them. Even the dragons."
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic that carries on what the first game did well. Like with Gothic 1 it doesnt really work straight out of the box on Linux. So, since it shares the same engine as the first game you will have to do the same to be able to play on Linux (and Deck in my case). Subscribe to a beta version, choose the workshop version. Then go the the workshop itself and, at least what I did was, choose a package of essential mods for the Deck. After that it all worked flawless, really.

This one was my first REAL Game, my first RPG. It was the content of our shool breaks. for years. I never finished it, because i was (probably still am) too bad to get through the first bloodflies to get skilled enough (me AND my nameless hero) to slay them with ease. But now i am back, with skill and absolute ANGER to kill more than fkn wolves... I get towards you, ORCS!!…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gothic 2 is the bigger, meaner son of gothic 1. Many things are improved and further developed. You play in a much larger area (especially if you combine the area added by Night of the Raven) Just as other entries of the series, you are to make a choice between multiple factions that will decide the course of most of the game. The Paladins are a mixture of warrior and mage with access to the strongest armour of the game. The Mercenaries are pure warriors with access to awesome melee and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gothic 2 is a classic RPG. Most players, including me, feel incredible nostalgia for this game as a true RPG from our childhood. I would recommend it even to new players to see what older games can offer and how some of the solutions from back in the day are missing in modern games. The way combat evolves with your skill is a masterpiece idea.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Gothic series means a lot to me, as Gothic 1 was the very first RPG that I've ever played. It ignited my love for gaming, and Gothic 2 made my appreciation of this series even deeper. It still has the same atmosphere as the first one, in the way that it feels real. The interactions, the world building, the different areas - everything is exciting and thought through. The story is engaging, full of twists and turns, thanks to which I wasn't bored even for a second. Gothic 2 is a brilliant…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best ARPGS of all time. If you can get over the clanky controls and kinda cliche story, the world immersion and characters draw you in every time. You'll play this again and again. Like I did, for the 20th time.

First of all, I would definitely recommend this game to players who enjoyed Gothic 1 Remake or Gothic 1 Classic. It is essentially the same concept, but expanded with more quests and regions. For first time players I would recommend playing Gothic 1 first (either the remake or the old school one) since this game's story is a continuation of the first one. Score: 9/10 Playtime: ~50h…
