Freaking Meatbags
Developer Wild Factor
Land on a planet, pick up some rocks, leave before the solar system explodes. Oh, and don't die in the nightly robot attacks! Freaking Meatbags is a humorous real-time strategy game that's all about building a base, mixing meatbag DNA, then convincing those dolts to help you gather resources. From the Steam store page

It is possible to play the game on a hard difficulty, but it felt like what normal should have been. The game will last you around 5 hours, with not much replayability once you finish the game. There is a variety of robots, but they really only differ in how fast they move and how much health they have. The DNA fusing of aliens and shop DNAs sounds like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A tower defence + rts mash up in which you control a robot and defend the planet you're exploring from vicious robots. Pros - DNA fusion system whereby you could fuse two lifeforms one being a human and other an alien. Doing this allows the player to choose genial traits for the clone such as faster mining, improved tower fire rates, damage and so on. - Music is really nice although it does only have a few tracks. - Mixes gameplay up by having 'shooter' sections\elements. It's nice that it has…

When I first decided to write a review I had every intention of criticizing the devs for releasing the game Early Access instead of just waiting until they had enough content. This was due to my own prejudice against companies that have been putting tech demos up on the store and charging full price. The truth is that Freaking Meatbags already has a good amount of content and many of the game's features.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Freaking Meatbags is a game about enslaving a cast of humans and dragging them around the galaxy to force them to work for you while you strip planets of the resources as quickly as possible before moving on. It's like Be The Biggest ♥♥♥♥ Ever, but it's also pretty great. You send your "crew" off to gather resources and build defenses for your camp to protect your resource horde and command module, then between missions you can augment your crew by implanting mind controlling parasites or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Generally speaking, marking an Early Access Game down is a tricky practice. I can already imagine some people rolling their eyes saying how an Early Access Game is supposed to be broken, buggy, or possible a pain to bear with. That's because the developer haven't finish adding all the magic that's suppose to make the game fun. Even though this Early Access game does indeed it's fair share of bug and glitches. (such as not charging resources for upgrade on certain instances/level, or the final…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oddly enough, out of all the sub genres of gaming, tower defences have never really evolved past a certain point and usually required to be stretched into other genres like Coffee Stain studio’s Sanctum series or Robot Entertainment’s Orcs must Die. Thankfully Freaking Meatbags developed by Wild Factor is a tower defence title that plays a very creative mix with base building RTS elements seen in titles like Starcraft 2 and the Command & Conquer series along with some bullet hell combat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →strategy game in which you manage an alien colony, controlling their daily lives and experimenting with Earth humans ✅DNA fusion system allows you to fuse a human with an alien lifeform and select the clone's favorable traits (faster mining, higher turret fire rate, increased damage, etc.). ✅Interesting mix of Tower Defense and RTS genres (base building, resource management, wave defense) ✅Each planet offers new challenges, with waves of enemies increasing in difficulty and numbers, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cool small RTS game with an interesting concept of the world, some fresh mechanics and cool but small campaign. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1478873083 You are a robot. You find human race and now use them as your free workers. They gather resources, make new humans, amplify tower characteristics and etc. The whole game is a classical strategy game with 4 different types of resources, several different buildings and a lot of towers but a few units. Most of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game plays out like a cross between a tower defence game, and an rts. Gather resources & turtle. With side missions where you control your commander unit. Certainly something you should pick up if you have a love for TD's
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I won't speak at length to this game's merits as it stands now: I will speak to the fact that it appears to not have been updated since it launched on Steam approximately half a year ago. I do not know if this game is still in development. I do know that I dislike paying "early access" for games that appear not to bother moving towards completion.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very unconventional tower defense. A mix of starcraft and tower defense - and at times a croissant, as we take on the role of a single robot and explore the planet. The graphics and soundtrack are a masterpiece, and the amount of amenities and good solutions would benefit many a high-budget production. And, of course, the humor of the whole game/story - here it's robots that give orders and humans like lambs digging coal - /hehe. In short, a masterpiece - one of the best indies of this year,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A novel idea! Executed responabley well. The game is a tower defense/RTS hybrid...Sort of. Rather than traditional RTS games where you get money from the enemies you kill, here you have to mine them yourself. Or you would if you didn't have nearby humans to enslave! ask for assistance. You can even DNA splice the humans to make them better at things. Well done I say, I welcome novel ideas that are executed well. Interrupting your diligent human slaves employees are of course...Urm...Other…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hello Friends, Today I will review the game Freaking Meatbags. This is a indie tower defense game with varying degrees of difficulty. Basically, the players main character is a robot who is tasked with gathering materials from worlds before their sun blows up. Along the way, they find humans, which it refers to as freaking meatbags to work for it, and the player uses them as their work force to gather resources. While gathering resources, enemies attack the player and the humans being used by…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What I liked: Like the DNA building of humans for different roles (Mining, damage +, range +) Can't have them all on one guy Music is very calming and old school What You Need to Know: Game has limited enemy variety, and tower types Very simple tower defence, not much strategy compared to other great TD games Your minions seem to wander instead of staying where you put them Not a terrible game, just not to me a game that I want to sink hours into My Score: C…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Below you'll find both a written and video impression on the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMaLVm1Fau0 Freaking Meatbags is an interesting take on RTS tower defense. It has all the expected elements from the genre, but throw in the mixing of genes, creating whole new humanoid creatures with special traits like laser eyes, or an extra pair of arms, and you got some thing kind of special. In Freaking Meatbags, you'll be spending plenty of time defending your base, but there is a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very fun little game with quite a bit of depth, persistent crew but it's marred with AI bugs that force you to restart a level (the characters cease to respond to orders). Imagine a more tower defensy Command and Conquer where you WASD control the commander. You WASD control a bot commander who is in a dire predicament for having been late to work by 0.01 seconds... yes it's quite goofy light hearted humor. You command locals into mining resources that you then use to build defenses…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game but could not. The game levels change focus too often between tower defence, doing gene splicing to create more advanced humans, and creating drones to shoot enemies yourself. The game is less of a progression of your abilities and tactics, and more of a collection of levels with different quirks requiring different actions to solve them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed this game quite a bit. There isn't too much replay value other than redoing levels on hard. There is a great variety of playstyle in the levels, some require you to build as many defences as you can, other require you to carefully ration out your resources, and others play like a top-down shooter. Personally I found this to be a huge plus as it kept the game from getting stale and repetative. Overall, I felt that this was a novel concept implemented quite well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay video & thoughts below: http://youtu.be/67TDg50CWrQ Freaking Meatbags is a great mix of RTS and tower defence with a pretty good sense of humour. The ability to mix together DNA to create new "units" is pretty great. Mixing together humans and alien life to pick and choose what traits you want the new creation to have. Make some humans with this sole purpose of making your turrets better or make them faster at gathering materials. Very simple but cool idea. Having a great time with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had the pleasure of playing this game while it was still under development and it has come a long way since the beginning stages. This is an RTS of sorts, though I use that term loosely. As a robot trying to make its way from planet to planet, you’ll be using humans (meatbags) to gather resources and fend off other robots a la tower defense. You can purchase new towers and upgrades in between levels with some of the resources you'll collect along the way. While it’s not the prettiest game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worth $10 to diehard TD fans only... It's a cool little TD, with some interesting meta-progression mechanics... but holy holy hell, does this game have a huge lack of tooltips? It's insane. Specifically when looking at stuff in the shop: How much damage does a specific tower do? How much range does a specific tower have? How much health does a specific building have? How much fire rate does a specific tower have? Also, it's not JUST when looking at the shop, it also doesn't show how much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really simple RTS that feels like it's intentionally trying to appear 20 years older than it is. Maybe for $1 if you just demand to have another RTS in your library, but I can't recommend it for the $10 asking price. --- [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38232109/]While you are here, would you consider following my curator page? positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Adding my own review into this game to help support it. I would recommend buying this game if you like more than a simple tower defense. This game inputs many options and a variety of things to do in place of simply placing towers. You upgrade your 'meatbags', get drones for yourself, set up towers and place people in them that make the towers super powerful. It's simple, it's fun, it's an RTS tower defense, not sure what else to say.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The perfect mix of Tower Defense and City managing with a side dish of exploration and a top-down shooter. This game is hilarious. Your human "slaves" have minds of their own. Yell at them when they get bored or just attatch brain slugs to thier heads. In addition, if you've ever wanted to make humans with laser eyes, this is your game. I haven't spent much time in it but it's an absolutely amazing game for sure. 300/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoyable little RTS with great writing and good mission variety. It has a unique hook and is really well polished, especially considering it is an early release game. Highly recommended, even now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow! Finally beat the boss level..very difficult. I thought the level before the boss was tough..but the boss was much tougher. Overall a very good game. I'd give it a 82 out of 100 in the state that it is in. Would love to play some more levels. Also having a difficulty setting would make it nice(though I beat the game...I'd rather have had a little less stress!). Art work and the music are fantastic! The 'meatbags' remind me of the family from Robotron 2084! Looking forward to the full…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah... mixed bag. The game looks simple but there are plenty of things to do and try. This is a something with elements of Tower Defense, RTS and some micro-management. Once you get the ropes, and that is not that easy as it could be, is entertaining for a while. Several interesting ideas here. Visually is modest but is OK. Found no bugs or had any crashes. Runs fine on win 7. Now, the final 3 levels are though. You can't save and the levels are very long. If you lose, usually because of a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. A fun theme, a very unique blend of resource management, RTS, tower defense and "breeding" mechanics are a recipe for great success. Unfortunately, lazy retro pixel graphics permeate the game and distract from what could have been a blockbuster.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/mMANSamiEY0 A tower defense game at the core, 'Freaking Meatbags' tosses in small amounts of RTS resource management and gene splicing to make the core experience feel fresh. The story experience is peppered with humor that hits more often than it misses which is a welcome addition. A second pass on the UI/UX for the game would have pushed the experience from good to great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →annoying RTS resource gathering ruins this TD game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really charming hybrid tower defense and shooter. Interface is a little clunky but fits the retro feel of the game. My only real grip about this game is that it is very short for the price point with little replay value. I would only recommend picking this up on sale. A full play through may take less than 8 hours playing at a casual pace.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I can see where the developers tried and tried hard to make this work. RTS and tower defense can be very difficult genres to combine. If you are not very careful and rather clever you end up with a very one sided feeling RTS. Which is what this turned out to be. There just aren’t quite enough… um… elements here to make it work. (Sorry devs. As I said, I see where you put in the effort.) Sadly, this still misses the mark and I can not recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game but has flaws, like to0 few aliens, enemies, towers, levels, and upgrades. But it mainly needs more content .I beat the game in 25 hours, a lot of time, some times leaving the game untended, but half of that time was replaying old levels to get cash so I could buy upgrades, only one bonus level is in the game that I could find, and only FOUR aliens. Over all: Good game for those who want a cute game that lets you build some.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Early Access but still a fun little game. It's a dynamic TD game where the map challenges you to use different strategies each time. Graphics are a bit dated but the gameplay is pretty good for a TD game. Lots of humor in the dialog which keeps things fresh. Picked it up for $10.99 CAD. Haven't had any bugs so far. Items are still gonna be implemented. 9/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros- Good solid gameplay, Hal 9000 is your boss, Humor is top notch. Cons-???????????????????????? 9.5/10 Is ok~ign
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Picked this up for 2-3 euro on sale - Honestly one of the best cheap games ive bought - took ~12 hours to 100% on very hard. Really nice sound, graphics and unlike a lot of cheap games i've picked up the UX is spot on. Strongly recommend for people looking for a tower defence / rts / top down shooter mashup :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let’s review : Freaking Meatbags This Pixel art type game is the perfect example that games don’t have to be AAA, to be super enjoyable, while maintaining an interesting approach to a game, while having base building, and other types of gameplay, all in the same game. Here you are tasked with cleaning a galaxy and it’s planets of Wild Robots, while you yourself are also a robot, and you must jump from planet to planet collecting the most desired traits from the species there, for instance,…

On Unity Engine with stock retro music and limited field of vision. Low production values makes it hard to keep invested despite fluff extras This is a game in which you get a basic pop of workers, then can send them into vats and reduce the pop but increase skillset by mixing and matching their "genes" (perks) into a new worker. Then you can mine and defend against hostiles.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun and unique tower defence and RTS hybrid. Among all the crappy mobile phone TD ports on steam this game was a pleasant suprise. It's a shame this game hasn't recieved more exposure. I have a few minor criticisms, such as the lack of achievements, a bit short, and overall could use some more polish such as additional DNA traits. It would be amazing to see a sequel building on this formula. If you enjoy this game I HIGHLY(!) recommend playing Infested Planet, which is a very similar and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game badly needs a tutorial. It told me to put two humans in a gun tower (or somthing like that) but there was no gun tower. Could not figure out how to play this at all. Pissed me off. What I wrote above was before the developer helped me understand what was going on in this game. Since I understand it now I have changed my opinion and am having a good time playing. Now I can wholeheartedly recommend Freaking Meatbags.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A tower defense game with a new elemetns (human breeding). Pick the genes you want, breed and manage your meatbags! lol, really funny additives too. Can be played as normal (easy) or hard or very hard if you like the challange.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game! As a person that isn't exactly your prodigal tactical genius, I recommend this to anyone remotely interested in the RTS/tower defense genre. This game is a must buy, with quite a lot of repley value for all it's difficulty options and upgrades. I wouldn't mind seeing an update or two in the future!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Positives: - Simple RTS - Upgrade and Mix your Units abilities - Only game I know to Combine RTS+Tower Defense+Player-Controlled Robot that can shoot machiine guns and rockets. - Play at your own pace by either slowing down time or speeding up gameplay - Cynical humor - Gathering Resources isn't a nusiance Minor Complaint: - Humans/Aliens lack distinct voice acting. They just say "OK"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has been released from early access for quite a while now but it never really left. It's still a shambling mess of half finished ideas, barely balanced levels, and a poor user interface. It doesn't look like it's being updated which means it's never going to be good. That's a shame, because there are fun ideas here, but it'd take a good chunk more work to make them worth playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fun, simple RTS. I don't like that the stages feel too rushed. I want to be able to spend more time messing with my humans' DNA and mining resources. Anyway, it's still fun to play. I don't regret the purchase.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nicley done. Very difficult, but I really like it. Something of its own.

Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xbhjcwtuSA What is it? Freaking Meatbags is a comination of a tower defense game and a real-time strategy. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed playing this game. Freaking Meatbags brings something new to the Tower Defense genre. The DNA mixing system lets you adapt your strategy from level to level. The recruiting system supports a wide variety of play styles. You can grind for upgrades and skill levels or advance for a greater challenge. A fresh, rewarding experience. The humorous writing, catchy music, and clean pixel art are also a plus.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Freaking Meatbags is a charming and original game. It isn't trying to be some other game that was very popular. It isn't trying to be an open world-survival-rpg-colony sim-city builder blah blah blah a little bit of everything and nothing at the same time. It sticks to its lane, which is a rather silly, chaotic lane. It's fun and easy to learn, and doesn't take itself too seriously.
