You're a changeling of some sort and you fight monsters and take quests in exchange for coin and buffs (which come in the form of power-up cards). There's a story but it's not the strongest element in the game. Like the Puzzle Quest games, your battles are determined by playing a mini-game. Instead of match-3 though, the game is a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why don't they make more games like this?! Simple card playing mechanic that's fun and addicting. Then you have a vaguely interesting storyline that your character has to make his way through. If you like Puzzle Quest (1st one), you'll love this game! Seriously, they need more games like this!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runespell Overture (Battle Poker-Solitaire) This is a game that I originally tried and reviewed back in 2014, but have just finished my first playthrough, and wanted to write a fresh review, so here we go~! Besides the usual options for graphics and sound, we also can choose between Drag-and-drop or Click-and-click for moving cards around. Remember that SAVES are manual. So how does battle poker-solitaire work? I'm glad you asked! Two solitaire hands are laid out on the screen - one of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runespell: Overture melds together classic RPG components with Windows Live's player-vs-player solitaire with poker. I obtained Runespell for free in a pile of coal during the Steam Holiday Sale 2011 event. Receiving the game for free, I simply assumed that Runespell was merely a terrible, no-name title that was not worth playing. It was not until the Summer 2013 that I truly realized what I had come across. Runespell sports a great soundtrack with honestly a decent storyline. Often times,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this as part of a bundle and really tried to make it work for me, but it was hard to escape the 'solitare with animations' feeling I got from the game. I'm sure a greater enthusiast for card games will find something they like in here, but I could not recommend it to a general audience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The core concept of this game is essentially solitare poker againt the AI. Matching varying combinations of cards will inflict damage against the AI (and AI to you). The damage will increase the better the combiation, from two of a kind to a royal flush. The game mixes things up by adding in spell cards which can be used to inflict status effects, heal, do elemental damage, etc. The additions of the spell cards keeps the battle fresh as certain enemies require specific cards to counter…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like casual games and you like an RPG style twist, then this little game was executed very well. The concept of using a standard card game as a fighting system works very well actually. Solid little game, I like it quite well!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little mash up of Solitaire, Poker, and RPG mechanics. You might think that sounds like an odd mix, and yes it is indeed, but it turns out it was a great idea! It's fun and addicting despite being a fairly simple card game idea. There's a neat campaign mode with a little story to it and the later matches can get significantly more challenging. I think this is one of the most unique RPG mash ups I've played in a while!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I kept shelving and retrying this game over like 5 years, always forgetting why I stopped playing it before digging it out of the rubble of my steam library a year later and then getting frustrated, deinstalling it and repeating the cycle. Now, I am leaving a review so I can actually lay this game to rest properly and remember just why I stopped playing it. Long story short: the RNG is unbearable and the AI is too unforgiving. This game essentially has you play a mix of solitaire and poker…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runespell: Overture is a decent and enjoyable game. The story plays out as a fantasy adventure, your character being oblivious to his past and must do battles with numerous foes to advance, making allies and doing quests along the way. The game play is somewhat unique, using a combination of battle and magic cards to attack your foe. One earns points by creating sets of 5 traditional cards (ace-king: hearts, spades, diamonds, clubs), using rules akin to poker, ie (pairs, 3 or 4 of a kind,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runespell Overture is a card game with kind of original mechanic, blending the combinations from poker with tactical moves from Arcomage - where you collecting some points to use them on some spell, which will either attack your opponent or defend yourself better. Point one is that it is NOT a Role-Play Game, it is only a card game with "health points" on you and your enemies, and some grades of combinations to win the hand. Point two is that Arcomage - and many games alike - are still Much…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of poker and Rpgs i thought this would be a pretty interersting and fun game....i was half right It seems well enough when you begin. You try to get a combintaion of 5 cards, the attack power being determined on how well it corrosponds to to the poker hierarchy and try to wittle down you're opponents hp. simple enough. You are introduced to spells shortly after, assuming this is where the tactics come in.....well not really. The main problem with this game is that it is barely like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The core combat of making poker hands to fight enemies is pretty fun. The game is very shallow and has a very lackluster story with choices that impact absolutely nothing. Get it on a sale or from a bundle.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, cards and poker were never my stuff. And so is this game. However, that won't be fair for me to leave a negative review for the game. Because for the card lovers, i can't say its a must have but surely, its a one time give-it-a-go. Its nowhere different than microsoft windows 98 version of card game. Where your screen was rained with deck of cards at the end of winning it. They just mixed some story of evil characters who needs to be defeated till the end of game, like Berendur,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best card based game I have ever played. And now it's a real bargain, you cannot have good enough reason to not buy it. ;-)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its just solitaire dont let the fancy graphics fool you
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Make sure you like the core poker-styled game mechanic before you buy because that (and the nice presentation) carry the game. If you like the gameplay, this would be a good game for you. If you're unsure or not especially enthused, there are other games that might suit you better. Took me a couple of tries to finish the game; I stopped playing and restarted a couple times because I got bored with the game mechanic or early grinding for silver. Not a very long game once you learn how to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FreeCell Solitaire Poker. Interesting at Start, barely midway gradually gets boring. Repetitive gameplay. Alittle too much to read, with options that does nothing. Overly aggressive or smart AI opponent. Grind to accumulate enough credits to purchase heals, fears and thunder. Staying ingame for 20 straight battles achievement at the beginning already wore me out. Look up guide and tips, to not miss out battles affecting the final few achievements. Not worth the full price. Neutral…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun card dueling game. Uses traditional poker cards / hands, along with special abilities. There's not a whole lot to it, but the gameplay is mildly entertaining. The story isn't very good, but I'll still recommend it if you can find it on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Does not work in Mac OS 10.9 or 10.10. No support available from the company.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WIll not open on mac.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runespell is a combination of RPG, Solitaire and Poker, similar in nature to Puzzle Quest. You stack cards like in solitaire to form 5 card poker combos to attack your foes and cast spells. It's fairly simple to play an so is the presentation. The story is based on Norse Mythology and while it's somewhat thin it does has its twists and turns. I found the gameplay enjoyable for the most part and the game doesn't overstay its welcome. Unfortunately, as the Overture in the title says it feels like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Think Puzzle Quest, but instead of match 3 you play poker solitaire to fight your enemies. It's fun if you're into this kind of thing. The story is cliched but well-written: I appreciate characters with a sense of cynicism. The art and sound are nice. Tutorials can be skipped when you replay the game. Downsides: Mystic Box appears to fallen off the face of the earth. Technical settings do not save when you quit the game; I constantly have to hit Alt+Enter to resize my window and re-pick…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The AI is far too aggressive and there is little reward for planning out certain hands. Five of a kind or a royal flush is not worth going for unless the cards literally fall into your lap, as the damage is only a few points more than easier combos like full houses, which you can easily spam. The AI is seemingly very well aware of this and doesn't let up at all, making the game very discouraging for new players.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely simplistic gameplay, unfortunately the skills and poker set gameplay mix poorly and in a way, not at all. While it's an interesting idea, all the elements are located at surface level, leaving no sense of deep strategy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked this game. It had a nice rpg feel about it, as well as having a very well thought out card game system that kept the game entertaining and challenging. My only real negative about the game is that the game didn't really feel like it had a proper ending. You get a cutscene which shows you going to the place you have been hearing about during the quests, but then the credits roll. I could understand if there was a dlc or another game to follow on from this one, but sadly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My only wish is that Mystic comes out with a sequel...and soon. I loved this game even though there was a lot of negative reviews...which only goes to prove that everyone has different tastes in games. I played this game several times and loved it each time for something new that I would discover.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The recommendation is pretty weak because I didn't actually like the game. I think it has the potential to be enjoyable and it is fairly unique, so that alone might be worth it to you. This game is essentially puzzle quest but with a solitaire combat system instead of matching gems. It's not fast by any means. Essentially you build poker hands to charge attacks, then launch the attacks at your opponent. Essentially you spend the entire game moving stacks of cards on top of each other to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this card game, use poker hands to defeat your enemys, with plenty of spell cards and allies to aid you when things get difficult. Most enemies are easy to start off and you think its a walk in the park but it soon cranks up the difficulty later on and you have to really think ahead and put good hands together to win. If you like card games then this is worth a shot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was a surprise! I was expecting something like Fairy Solitaire, but has much more the RPG feeling and the RPG elements. And on top of all, keeps my poker knowledge fresh:) I can definetely recommend this game as a Casual, Relaxing, Adventure with nice visuals. and for 1,80euro...it's a steal!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a fun and reasonably easy game to master. The mythic poker system is more of a cross between solitaire and poker. The layout is solitaire, but the building of hands is very much poker. Royal Flush has the most value at 50 attack points. I like the way your runespells charge by both dealing damage and receiving it from enemy attacks. The story was reasonably engaging for what it was, and they left room for DLC or a sequel. All in all, a good way to kill 8 or 10 hours. On a scale of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically a visual novel with some card-battle and poker elements shoehorned in to add "gameplay". Story is about as tacky as you can imagine and there is little to no variation in gameplay throughout the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game runs at a maximum of 1650x1050, not even 1080p. The gameworld is super zoomed in, after you've defeated the first "boss", you see at most 3 places on the screen. But if they zoomed it out you could see the entire map without any trouble. Took about 8 hours to beat, it's fairly fun. Must've gotten the game in a bundle somewhere but i wouldn't pay 9€ for this. Maybe 5€ at most if you really like poker-match games. The AI is harder in the start than they are in the end. I lost more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Puzzle Quest is an RPG based on a foundation of match 3 mechanics, with Runespell:Overture replacing the match 3 foundation with that of Poker hands. I enjoyed this for the same reasons I enjoyed Puzzle Quest and the poker mechanics kept the game feeling fresh in the over-saturated genre of puzzle/rpg hybrids. $10 seems appropriate if you are in to this sort of game, but if on sale for $5 or less and you even have a passing interest then snap it up immediately. (Also recommended by me via…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel that this would've been more fun if the spells and abilities were more than just "do damage", also as the game progresses your sole upgrade is more HP/MP, without any increases in damage potential, so battles at the end just end up being a long slugfest.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good: - Core concept - Like puzzle quest, but the gameplay is simple, not overcomplicated (there is no sword and other magic artifacts) - Fun gameplay Bad: - Not too deep game mechanics - Not too long campaign
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10 Its a game worth a try but only worth a try.Campaign is not that boring and can be attractive to some players. Also have a unique concept. There are 2 deadly flaws in this title in my opinion: 1.Too many useless battles,so you usually get bored after 2hours 2.The limited times to use skills, for more times?you need to buy at a high price in store.I really dont know why design like this,so the game gets more and more boring because you dont want to try different skills but only want to end…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is actually a really cool game and fun too. Also changelings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runespell is a RPG card game that follows similar rules to poker. Each fight requires you to deplete your enemies hitpoints by collecting 5 cards together that give you a score. Since the rules are based on poker, a pair is the least amount of points and a royal flush is the most amount of points. You can also collect cards along the way to use your special ability points that you gain during each fight. These cards can be used to shield yourself, attack using spells, or call in allies to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mediocre card game. Don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a casual cardgame with RPG elements. Gameplay is a mix of poker and solitaire... instead of building a set of cards from King to Ace, you build a 5 card poker hand, the strength of which determines the damage you do to your enemy. There's no 4K support and "widescreen" is just 4:3 with some textures on the sides (as you can see in the screenshots). It's just not a very good game, and if you like this kind of thing there's plenty of great free to play card games online like MtG and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runespell has a good and innovative concept, blending poker with turn-based rpg, but poor execution. I found the game very fun the first hour, unfortunaly it got repetitive very fast. There's no way to you or your opponents to improve the damage of the cards combinations. The spells aren't varied either: most of them are just to x damage. After a while you'll realize that all battles are the same. Story and music are blend and forgettable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm keen on giving games in my library at least 1h of actual playtime, even bad ones. Usually I can handle myself pretty well in that aspect: Some games are worth a lot more, some games are pretty bad but at least they can be played. This game was just flat out annoying and that hour felt amazingly long. To quickly summarize: In this game, you fight by playing poker/yahtzee with a standard cardset, set up in a patience way, and do damage based on the combinations you do. Here are some…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is like poker with a bunch of magic cards, recommended if you like to gamble!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a card game first, and a fighting game second. Each fight is structured by the cards played. And by 'cards', I mean a 52 card deck. Your attacks come in the form of stacks of five such cards. Following Yahtzee Croshaw and Poker rules, getting say, a 5-of-a-kind will increase the damage that can be dealt. The end all goal, of course, is to slay whoever you're fighting. Artwise its beautiful, but the lore of the game is handed to you via text, and wayyyyy too much of it. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not bad. It does not anger me, disappoint me, or rub me the wrong way. It's just kinda there. The game plays like a cross between poker and solitaire. You see your stacks of cards (top card only per stack, like in solitaire), and you see the same for your opponent. You move cards around like in solitaire, stacking them on other cards, except you're trying to make combinations of five cards, which can be poker combos like flushes, straights, etc. You then use those to attack your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poker solitaire is simply boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The core gameplay mechanic is original and fun, but I couldn't play enough of it for that to matter. For many people, the game crashes after reaching the first village. Just freezes and can't be unfrozen. Some people say they fix it by disabling "Raptr," but I don't even know what that is, and it doesn't appear to be even installed on my computer. If I ever manage to solve this problem, I can give a better review, but for now, I have to say that a game with such a massive bug isn't worth…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to tell the difference between clubs and spades especially. Sometimes I make the wrong diamonds and hearts also. Fix this, please.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty unique concept but another of the worst games I've ever played. First boss of the tutorial is too overpowered and I can't beat him no matter what I do. There's better things out there to play. I'm done with this frustrating and stupefying game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game keep crashing at a certain point every time, i tried starting over with a new campain and it keeps effecting it and crashs as soon as i get into the game.. dont waste your money on only a few hours worth of game before it crashs. and you might think its just my computer doing because of my graphivcs card or something, but ive tried it again after replacing my graphics card
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like playing poker and classic RPG at the same time. Challenging gameplay and good spells to help you through dozens of quests. Strong allies to unlock with fantastic artwork will make you want to summon them again and again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a thing for poker-related video games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game keeps crashing in the same place. It's unplayable because of that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't even remember playing this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poker + Solitaire, with very lite RPG-style items/spells. Like poker, RNG plays a large role, but good strategy can make your plays more consistent. Best imbibed in short sessions when in the mood for some relaxing card action.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a neat concept, but there is almost no room for strategy. Because the Player and the AI each get 3 moves per turn, and you may only move 1 card per turn, it means you and the AI advance your hands (attacks) at exactly the same rate. So then the only thing that differentiates one attack from another is not the skill of the player, but the value of the hand (luck of if good cards are available). Game play is extremely simple. Move a card from your area or the AI's area onto one of your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really liked this game. I'm a big sucker for card games and have wasted X amout of time on Windows Solitaire so this was a given. If you don't like poker or fantasy you shouldn't bother though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is very unquie and is great for people who love card games/deck building games. 1 part solitaire, 1 part poker and adds abilties on top of that. Downside- Game is not really difficult and the achievement Runespell XL: Play all battles once, has to be done during a single campaign. Which is diffcult as certain enemies only appear at certain times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just played it through and left wanting for more. It's a simple game to learn, if you know poker hands. Poker hands are used to do battle against foes. Among poker hands, you get to use spells, allies that have different powers and pet abilities. I love the tactic and mathematic side of winning the battles. Not having much time to play and having to get off the chair before my computer a lot, I'm happy that it's turn based and that you can save between every battle. Hope there's going to be…
