Dungeon Lords Steam Edition
Developer Heuristic Park
Dungeon Lords is an action role-playing game developed by Heuristic Park, originally published by DreamCatcher Interactive and Typhoon Games, and released in 2005. However, many features were left out from the original release in an effort to meet the release date. In 2006, they re-released the game as Dungeon Lords Collector's Edition with more complete features. In 2012, after the demise of DreamCatcher… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Critics, per Wikipedia
Many gamers experienced extensive problems while playing the original release of the game, including quest items disappearing from inventories, NPCs getting stuck, key quests failing, doors that do not work, etc. The game received "generally unfavorable reviews" according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. Many reviews criticized the game's initial release as a rushed project, released before it was truly finished. Some have gone so far as to say the game is still in the beta development stage. Steve Carter of Game Over wrote, "Dungeon Lords marks a new low for how incomplete a game can be and still get released." Dan Adams of IGN wrote, "Dungeon Lords is a disaster. It's an…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sometimes what we want in life is a 6/10 janky game that we can't help but like. Dungeon Lords is such a game. Is it good? Not really. Is it fun? Kinda. Largely I was interested from nostalgia but I'm glad I have finally finished it and can put this game mostly out of my mind. Just like B-movies or so bad it's good, this game does scratch that itch. Also: If you put lots of points in agility and armor you can move super fast and kind of break the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok so, I know a lot of players are unhappy with this version of the game, but I actually like it. I think it's better than the all previous versions. Yes, a lot of things have been changed, modified or removed, but I think it was for the better. Allow me to elaborate... The old spell system was horrible. You only had as many charges to a spell as you had books, then when exhausted, you had no choice but to wait for recharge. That used to drive me insane! Kneeling down for hours. Ugh. Good…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to say although it is fun and there are some improvements (notably to UI and other ease of use features) there are some major gripes. Some are from the base game. Being constantly harangued by avalanches of level 1 rats, thieves, snakes and worst of all bats is so, so frustrating. Unfortunately, this isn't just because of the slog of killing a dozen rats for the dozenth time in so many minutes. This flaw in the base game synergizes with a flaw introduced in the steam version to truly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i played the collectors edition a long time ago and it was fun but BUGGY AS HELL and the multiplayer didn't work in the slightest. i am very glad that the steam edition fixed pretty much all of the major issues and the multiplayer works well! fun little old game try it out!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short review after finishing the game at lv 41: a fun but flawed old school action RPG with enough charm to rise above its flaws. Pros: - Mass amount of classes and sub classes to choose (if i would recommend this game it would be for the classes, so many of them structured in 3 tiers beating many MMOs in terms of unique and amount, some very unique like war angel only for females and so on) - While there are not many side quest, because of the class quests which are so many you still can be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great action rpg. simple but fun. decent little story. steam version fixed a lot of the og game perfect game for when you dont know what to play next
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, Dungeon Lords... interesting and not well remembered game. Beat it several times myself, both original version and the MMXII version that is released on Steam. The tl;dr version - it's a fairly unique action RPG take, in ye olde times, that can be still decent fun. But it's hardly a full recommendation. Game is janky, some mechanics aren't well balanced, so on and so forth. More of a game for someone who likes exploring gaming history. The long version - game is based around a decently…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Underrated time consumer. Takes some effort to stay with it, but rewards a dedicated player. Great RPG under the hood, despite the surface dents.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that introduced me to the genre when I was but a wee lad. Steam Edition was a frustrating experience at the start and way too easy near the end. If you can get your hands on the Collectors Edition from 2006, it is a far superior experience, and I honestly have no idea why they didn’t just port it as is.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of those "i remember this but forgot the name" type of games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dungeon Lords. Ok, now I am truly done with this game. While initially I pushed through all the issues I was seeing, because to a combination of reasons (curiosity of how it progresses, an inkling of something interesting and honestly, lots of dumb stubbornness) I think I've reached the breaking point. I've reached the Trial of the Ancient Elders, in the elven dungeon, on the last phase, where some elven mage keeps hurling fireballs on a closed-off arena, where elves keep spawning in. And…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to play Dungeon Lords, look for original game somewhere. The steam edition is broken and unplayable with redesigned character progression system, magic and inventory. The original game was unfinished and buggy, but it was very fun, this one is just unfinished and buggy without any fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a 2012 re-release of a 2005 game that looks like it's from 2001 and plays like it's from 1997. It was on sale for $2 and my curiosity got the better of me. It has a lot of charm and a few interesting ideas, but it's also a fundamentally broken game that probably changed direction at least 3 times during its production cycle (It also has very short credits that lists only 5 people as programmers - which definitely shows). It IS a fun game, but only if you enjoy janky old games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent if somewhat janky adventure RPG. I like it, and its worth mentioning the Steam store page says single player only but you can in fact play this coop.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It just feels good and fun, and I love the older RPGs from my childhood.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nostalgia and its a secret gem, hard to figure out the puzzles but its worth the 3$.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When you die in multiplayer it can crash so hard that the process is unable to be killed and you need to restart your system to get it to go away.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best worst game on Steam 👍
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is like an offline Everquest. Enjoy!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oldie but a goody, nothing around today that matches the length and complexity of these Dungeon D&D type Games, 100's of Hours of game play and plenty of puzzles and riddles, well worth the time spent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like a single player tab targeting MMO, I like it! I turned off the shield option because I'm a caster so holding right click to turn works nicer now. I only wish I could write notes on the map or something and if I could zoom out on it because I have no idea where anything is and have to keep running to every door, maybe there's an easier way, I did skip the tutorial... No issues running it (Windows 11) except for ONE crash which then bugged my save at the very beginning, so save often…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s like playing classic wow but as a single player RPG. Honestly, it’s really fun and some of the environments are pretty cool. It also scratches that nostalgia itch. Just play it, it’s worth every bit of the $4 it costs on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game because Wizards and Warriors, a game previously made by this developer, is a cult classic (only available on GoG). This game has a "Steam Edition" but it isn't very good. Actually starting and maintaining a co-op game is incredibly clunky, if it works at all. I was just playing a co-op game, needed to save and exit to the main menu to adjust my screen resolution, needed to restart to update screen resolution, the co-op player now gets an error message that the Steam Lobby…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tldr 9/10! i really really have been enjoying this game, the story is decent, the mechanics are great as you level up your skills by using them and there are a lot of classes you can evolve your character into with dozens of spells to be learned. the graphics still hold up today, for sure not modern but they are decent enough that even the low poly isn't a problem. the only downside for me right now is that i am only in the starter town and want to play the rest of the game with my friends…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a game from 2005. brings you back to that era. i had a great time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont waste your time/money on this TRASH.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →in all my 18 yrs of life i alone would never have thought this game would have changed my life the way the did. for 18 yrs... sat there... pondered.. dungeon lords... a game made for legends.... i alone am the honored one. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unplayably buggy. Tried playing 3 player, zoning got people stuck on trees unable to move, or stuck in the ceiling. The minimap only actually shows the players at certain resolutions, also players spawned in after loading in the sky above the map unable to play. That and the autosave that only autosaves about once every 6 hours, combined with the crash to desktop about once an hour means this game is utterly unplayable in multiplayer. Seems a real shame, and also utterly false advertising. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I finally completed the game... what a love and hate relationship. Dungeon Lords has a charming World of Warcraft visual tone from the UI and view perspective and unexpected mechanics for this genre such as climbing / vaulting. You can also destroy the environment which opens the door for cool stuff to happens in dungeons. The dungeons: - Expect a ♥♥♥♥ you every time you look for direction in this game lol. Its a figure it out yourself you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ experience. YET SO REWARDING - The lack…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Certainly a game. Tons, and I mean tons of enemies that block up hallways, so much clicking to attack that my hand hurt. Buggy voice lines that assault your ears. Mismatched, sometimes completely wrong audio? This game has it all! And thats what makes it great. The combat, at least playing as melee as I did, does end up a little boring, just spamming left click, occasionally buffing. You take essesentially no damage around the half way through, or you just have enough potions to keep your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →keep crashing every 10-15 minutes with a C++ issue
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's nice to see that Steam is bringing back some of the old games I've spent many hours playing. I just started playing the Steam Edition but it's running on Windows 11 just fine.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is OLD SCHOOL action rpg shenanigans...and I love it. No frills classes, tropes without apology,. You've got elves, wizards, goblins, a missing princess, sewers, treasure in chests. You level up. You gain skills and abilities. You swap your equipment for better equipment. It's all in real time and it can feel chaotic but this game is surprisingly forgiving on a few points too. Minimap keeps you from being lost, you regain HP and mana slowly without potions, you instantly refill both when…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I ran like Forrest Gump in this game. I did play Collectors Edition many times in my childhood, but Steam version is a lot worse. Lots and lots of running one place to another. I think it's impossible to finish this game without walkthrough quides - there are several quests which doesn't tell you what to do next and where to go. Fighting is satisfying, but gets boring mid game. Questline is meh. Still - fun to try for once or twice.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Unbelievably* good action CRPG. Features a huge open-world, incredible class and character progression mechanics, a very rewarding loot system and maybe the most fun combat I've ever played in a game like this. This is REAL real-time action here. Very much worthy of playing for sure if you at all enjoy action RPGs or CRPGs in general. Enjoy! This one is a rare, underrated gem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing classic and still an awesome game, would love to see a remastered fully or better yet Dungeon Lords 2!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old and Niche game, but this game was my childhood and its genuinely really fun to explore a classic fantasy world, very fun co-op and once you get your bearings with controls you can easily sink many hours (I had a lot more hours on my disc copy, only bought steam edition recently)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly disappointed with this - what seemed like a fun old school action RPG adventure with friends turned into an evening of frustrating troubleshooting and ultimately ended on the tenth crash to desktop. Unfortunately this just doesn't seem playable multiplayer. There is a gem here but it's bogged down with bugs and weird balance choices (why is my sword broken AGAIN?) Wait for a community patch, the devs have no idea what they're doing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lots of areas to roam around in and ranked mobs as you lvl up
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even after all these years, Dungeon Lords remains a unique masterpiece in the RPG genre. The combination of deep character customization, intense real-time combat, and classic dungeon-crawling atmosphere is something modern RPGs rarely replicate. The Steam Edition proved that this game has a timeless soul. To the developers: please know that your fanbase is still here, still playing, and still passionate. The world of Dungeon Lords has so much untapped potential. We don’t just want a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay imo is a bit better compared to the Collector's Edition. But if you're buying this game for the multiplayer, don't. The netcode is god awful. It can take upwards to 15 seconds or more for the game to finally register that you pressed left mouse to attack. Such a great game, but ruined by a somehow worse multiplayer experience. Yet I had fewer problems with Collector's Edition. I dunno how you manage to make the multiplayer of a remake worse than it's original on accident. Because…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a total masterpiece. Why have you not got it in your library? Why are you staring at this review? Why do you love pizza? Can I eat a triple burger with triple cheese and triple quadruple layers of bacon? Make America Great again! Amen.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its fun and i love the game play
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First: I did not play the original version. That said, I loved the game for its unique style and gameplay. The story is good and there is always a clear goal to achieve next, but there is also time for lots of exploring in the open world. On the downside, I was happy that I read through character development options beforehand, as the game does not explain a lot. And I really hated the mechanic that some items like keys are undroppable and further in the game more and more limit your inventory.…

unlabelledView post →I need to motivate myself to go through a full playthough of this but I used to play the original CD-ROM version of this in the mid 2000s with my dad on the family computer long ago. I would say this is an interesting to try to get into game nowadays, lots of flaws with both old and this steam version, but it has character I can only define as unique for many of the 2000s Fantasy roleplaying games which were using complete 3D spaces for the first time compared to the earlier top-down…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished this gem. RPGs?...I have played them all, starting with Ultima 3, store bought in the 80s. I confirm the other reviews that this is an absolute gem. Amazing character progression, exploration and a motivating story. Took me 57 hours to complete, at a slow pace. If you're a fan of Wizardry, Gothic, Morrowind, then don't hesitate to try this one. Bug free for me, 2 crashes in 57 hours. My personal rating 5/5. Thanks DW Bradley, many of us really appreciate your work! PS: Also…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am genuinely sad to be writing this review. If you are a fan of the Collectors Edition of this game, I do not recommend this version. They completely redid the leveling up system, the interface, the inventory and much of the combat. Those were some of the primary strengths of the Collectors Edition. It was what made that messy game so much fun to play. Nobody was playing it for the story or the visuals. Back in the day it was hard to make it all the way through a game on multiplayer without…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →basic rpg super simple yet complex. old game but a great game for casual gaming.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a bit annoying. Walk 5 metres and monsters come out of nowhere in masses. Open a crate and monsters come out en masse. Go back 5 metres to check something... guess what... Monsters come in masses...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Taking a walk through the Woods, getting Steamrolled by an Army of Goblins that even got a Ballista with them - Great Game Ive got a Heart for Obscure Bad Good Games. This is one of them. It clearly has alot of flaws like not clear enough quest directions or alot of enemies that take control from you and so on (Gets on your nerves as melee) But i actually really love the Variety of Enemies in the Game and their look. Its like a bad B Movie that has alot of Good stuff hidden beneath some Cheese.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game of my childhood to the point where my brothers and I still quote the shopkeepers or imitate the goofy animations from time to time. Also absolutely GOATED theme song. This updated version has some QoL changes and new enemies. The old one was also quite buggy in multiplayer but unfortunately the online multiplayer in this is very laggy so we couldn't even try to relive those good old memories. Still VERY worth playing through solo. It has cool characters (lizard is only acceptable choice…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dungeon Lords Steam Edition is a game that manages to enchant you from the very first minutes. The moment you hear its magical melody and distinctive sound effects, memories of a distant, warm, and atmospheric world come alive — a world built back when RPGs were more demanding and immersive. The story, though delivered without unnecessary pomp, draws you in, and the variety of locations — from towns and castles to mysterious forests and dark dungeons — evokes a genuine sense of adventure.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oldschool RPG, underrated
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's beautiful garbage, like the dumpster of a restaurant with at least Michelin stars. Really fun and replayable, though rife with quirks. There is no shame in reading an FAQ like on Gamebanshee in order to avoid the most game breaking pitfalls. Supports multiplayer coop in this version which is pretty neat. If you can convince anyone else to look beyond the cover of this game they'll probably enjoy playing it with you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game, me and my brothers played this amazing game. We loved every single second running around the great city of Fargrove being attacked by rats, monkeys, bats, bandits, golblins, and more. +1 how did this not win game of the year?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really liked the game from the idea and 1st look but later on noticing those random "encounters" "spawns" pretty much make the game so bad , trying to play on elite difficulty even on normal spawn rate they spawn like every room / 60 seconds so you clear them and like 10 seconds later they spawn again , until some "mini boss" spawns that 2 shots you or perma stuns you meh , cool idea but thats stupid.
