Disciples II: Rise of the Elves
Developer Strategy First
The award-winning series Disciples introduced a milestone in the game's very successful history; the introduction of a new race: The Elves. The Elven Race added a new dimension to the game and added countless hours of gameplay. Now that series has expanded further with Disciples II: Rise Of The Elves. From the Steam store page

The lag is just to much, you literary cannot play the game because of it. In one of the reviews, someone suggested the following: "Troubleshooting : 1. Right click on DisciplesII: Rise of the Elves entry in your library and choose #SteamLaunchOptionSetupUtility 2. a) Check Direct 3D option b)Check Compatibility Mode c) Check Strech to Fullscreen (This will get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →God bless the developers of this game, wherever they are and whatever they are doing right now. This game has a special place in my heart.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remaster please, this game deserves it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WARNING Some players may encounter difficulties with running the game nowadays but it can be solved in 3 minutes at worst. Just refer to the discussions tab and you'll find any solution you need. Personally I recommend you to use "Disciples I & II OpenGL Wrapper" because it is very easy to use and solves the most technical problems. REVIEW If it was a modern game then it would be a DLC for sure. The Rise of the Elves (ROTE) not only adds a new race but several updates of graphics, arts and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oldie but goodie, especially for fans of turn based strategy games like Heroes and Might and Magic series. This game does have issues running on newer systems so be sure to download and install the following mod into your game directory after installing: https://www.moddb.com/games/disciples-ii-rise-of-the-elves/downloads/disciples-wrapper-v160
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Steam version isn't working. If I purchase the game license, it should function properly without needing extra modifications. The same applies to 'Disciples II Gallean's Return.'
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the greatest turn-based strategy games featuring turn-based battles, and probably the best installment of the Disciples series, an upgrade of Gallean's Return, and a sequel of one of my fave childhood games. Nonetheless, the worst facet of it (just like the rest of series) is random number goddess's whims. Battles sometimes rely far too much on mere chance. Other than that, great. 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Because of this game, I became interested in Latin. Per Bethrezen!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is literally turn-based lord of the rings. No really, the closest atmosphere to all animated movies trilogy you can ever find not only on steam but among all games exist on the market. But before playing it on win10 you should install this patch: https://verokster.blogspot.com/2019/03/disciples-i-ii-gl-wrapper-patch.html
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best turn based games ever. It's a shame the owners of the IP don't appreciate how strong the original game mechanics were. The brand new games are not the same.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I replay this game at least once a year, try to play each saga each time. its a good ass time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A never aging masterpiece. Better than Heroes III in my opinion
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL; DR Disciples 2: Rise of the Elves is a really good game and a fun turn-based strategy-RPG that will last many hours if or when you get into it. This version adds further variety to the base game both in terms of playstyle, balance changes, and in neutral enemies. I highly recommend it; however, the game did not work without a fix so be aware of that. Note that Disciples 2: Rise of the Elves is an expansion that takes place after the events of Gallean’s Return. Not all campaigns are included…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There was a time when Disciples II: Rise of the Elves was often compared to Heroes of Might and Magic III. Back then, people argued about which one was better - but today, I don’t really see the need for that comparison. For me, both games are masterpieces that earned their own place in gaming history. What always pulls me back to Disciples II is its atmosphere. It’s dense, dark, and unapologetically gothic. Every unit portrait feels like a piece of art, and the maps are filled with tiny,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is still enjoyable after "DisciplesGL_1.90.exe" patch that can be downloaded from https://www.moddb.com/games/disciples-ii-dark-prophecy/downloads/disciples-wrapper-v160
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best game ever.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent old school game. Done better than most, best $1.39 you' ll ever spend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was certainly an interesting expansion to the original Disciples II, giving access to a fifth race to play. The Elves were always a steadfast adversary in any Disciples playthrough but this actually made them an actual faction to play with. Notable about this product is that it gives you access to the four original campaigns along with the new fifth campaign for the Elves. I can't really say that he original campaigns were necessarily worth it since you would not be able to play the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mix of RPG and TBS packaged in an atmospheric gothic dark fantasy setting. Visually and acoustically it aged very well, especially the attack animations. Interface has just the right amount of retro. You can find wrappers on moddb that make it run smoother on newer systems. Compared to Gallean's Return, some extra missions are missing, but it makes elves playable and adds their campaign. Also adds a fair amount of neutral units and some new items.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game before Steam was even a thing. So well-built. Easy to pick up but challenging if you want it to be. Structured without being too restrictive. Addictive, but not to the point where you might lose your house. The perfect balance.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great expansion of the original Disciples II. The major novelty is a new playable Elven race, along with new campaigns. Recommend it with confidence. I myself finished all the campaigns and all the default maps.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wasted an entire summer on this game in 2004 and it was perfect.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best tbs games of all time, absolute classic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like feeling nostalgic while playing strategic games then this one is definitely the one for you. It doesn't fail to entertain me every single time i stumble upon it in my library and play it for a while. Amazing game. Reminds me of when i used to play this with my brother on his computer in the mid 2010s.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best disciples that came out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You would be surprised how well this game aged. Despite being rather old, gameplay still feels engaging and the art&sound design is on point. Years since I played it as a kid, I return to this game as an example of a well done dark fantasy story. Philippe Charron, thanks to you my dnd sessions have awesome atmoshere. There is or was a community for PVP gaming in Disciples II, and from what I read it's quite fun, but I personally never got around to playing multiplayer. For new players: It's a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my fav game when was still a kid! now i play it again, and wow! even in my adult age, i still enjoy this game. Be careful, this Disciples franchise is addicting! I recommend, Disciples sacred lands, Galleans return, Rise of elves!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warnings for prospective buyers: 1. The game DOES NOT run well on modern hardware: installing Disciples Wrapper helps a ton (can't link it, but you'll find it - Dark Prophecy one works for Rise of the Elves too); 2, This edition DOES NOT include Servants of the Dark / Guardians of the Light campaigns... for some reason - even though the Elves' campaign takes place after those chronologically. Go figure. Aside from that, the Elves are a fun race to play, and the game itself is still a classic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Steam version is very bad and almost unplayable; get it from GOG instead (or download unoffical patch from moddb). But the game is very good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic old strategy game +++++
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great art and atmosphere of dark fantasy. Mechanics got old pretty bad, tho' but still I like to return after... 22 years, wow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great, the game is a classic. I can't get this version to run on my computer. I don't know why because I have been able to run it on this operating system in the past. It's a shame. I'll keep the game in my library in the hopes of one day being able to play it again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's not working ...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →story 10/10 ; units 10/10 ; campaign 10/10 ; graphics 4/10. Worth every penny.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the gameplay of this Disciples II expansion, but the direction they took the story in here always felt a bit... cheap to me. Nevertheless, it's a definite 8.5/10 edit: GoG is probably your best bet if you want to avoid having to jump through hoops just to get old games like this working.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unplayable. Literally. It will not run on any modern PC, so if you're not playing on a toaster from 2002, you'll have to dig through guides and sketchy 3rd party 'fixes' to run. That is, if you're lucky. I had the fortune of spending a couple of hours clicking though dozen guides with no success. Why Steam is platforming this broken garbage is beyond me. Don't spend money on this. Edit: I was able to run it on my laptop, so I'm happy boy at the moment. Still doesn't work on my PC, though, and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Around 20 years ago, I have special memories about this game, where game still simple yet fun. Probably, this kind of game that you will never see it again in future. Its art, sound, gameplay, and detail are advance on its era..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best step strategy ever! Love it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doomdrakes are raining from sky and eating my cities. Wyrms walking around like who care about it. If you want to feel alive like in real world you can try campaign its even more depressive and desperate. Your hero is challenged with thug and then killed with spells and hunted meanwhile casting storms on your slow army running away :D. Dwarfs are drinking blood from my angel and breaking all time diplomacy if they see my angel, spiders are trying to drink blood from my angel too and running…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. However, steam version is completely broken. Get it on torrents or buy somewhere else, here it's unplayable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing classic. Played this game when it was new, and have picked it up many times again over the years. Love the progressive troop/hero leveling & TBS aspects of this game. Would recommend to anyone!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, sadly the last good one in the series. As much as I would love a remake / master of it I just don't see there being an audience which is a shame. Really wish this series, which I played insanely as a child, had a quality sequel. I don't have a lot to say about it, if you've played it before you probably love it and if you haven't you might hate it because it's VERY old and feels that way. It's great though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the best games ever made
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Disciples II" holds a special place in the heart of any strategy gaming enthusiast, encapsulating an era when turn-based fantasy games were at their zenith. Released in the early 2000s, this title effortlessly weaves nostalgia into the fabric of its rich, immersive world. The hand-drawn artwork, reminiscent of a bygone era, remains a testament to the game's visual charm. The strategic depth, diverse factions, and engaging storyline create a tapestry of memories for those who spent countless…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I love Heroes of M&M III, there's a special place in my heart for Disciples II. There's something about the tremendous work the designers and composers did on scenery and ambiance, with comparatively little resource at hand, that just absorbed me at the time and still evokes admiration.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games I have ever played. Don't let my steam hours deceive you I've been playing Disciples 2 since it came out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a weird relationship with this game. It started by never actually playing it. When I was in 10th grade, (like, forever ago), my friend let me borrow two games. Those games were the first Disciples game, and Diablo 2. Well, the first game I installed on my pc was.....you guessed it, Diablo 2. I mean, once I started with D2, I never looked back. That Disciples game sat, unused and with a layer of dust on it. Fast forward all these years later, I still never played that first Disciples…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite games of all time, but it's not for everyone. For new players, let's check the good & the bad to help determine if it's the right game for you. THE GOOD: ■ Awesome art style. ■ Awesome soundtrack. ■ A great story with various perspectives to discover, morally grey and grim. ■ Extremely immersive and atmospheric world. ■ Great boss battles, with more strategic than tactical knowledge required. WHAT MIGHT TURN YOU OFF: ■ It's a slow game, so it's not for people who prefer…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All I can say about this game is that it is a true legend that accompanied me throughout my childhood. I can confidently recommend this masterpiece to anyone. For years, I have been hoping that it will one day receive a worthy remake. It remains an all time favorite that I am always happy to sit down and play. It is simply perfect. Thank you very much Strategy First!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyable turn-based RTS with strong elements of hero building with itemization, leveling up your mobs, etc.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →old school great game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That game does not work on my pc. I was playing it in 90s, but its just can not finish loading in 2025 lol I do not recommend it because you wont be able to play it on Windows 10 or 11
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The horrible creatures known as elves invade another game series. The ones in this are especially obnoxious.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its very nostalgic and entertaining. A fun way to pass the time and achieving greatness!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing music, art and gameplay. Its forever classic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →thumbs down simply because i cant make my own map like ive used too those old times. i bought this game with that in mind, scenedit doesnt work. would give 5 out of 10. edit: finally found a workaround. go to library, then on the left side menu, check that tool on checkbox. scroll down on the list till you see the ROTE of disciples 2 and install it. so with this solved, im upvoting it now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best game of the genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great nostalgic game with little more to it than can be told at first glance. It has original mechanics like unit evolution or rod planting, the magic is also done nicely. The stories from campaigns fit nicely together and are overall enjoyable. However, in what seems like laziness on the devs' part, the game still has its flaws. From the multiplayer perspective (although the same is true for the singleplayer aspect) there are no comeback mechanics. If you lose your mostly developed character…
