Battle Mages: Sign of Darkness
Developer Targem Games
A thousand years had passed since the great battle between the Lord of Chaos and the forces of the Order. Little by little, life returned back to normal. The story begins, when a young neophyte journeys north, to learn from an eccentric wizard, one of the most ancient and powerful Guild’s members. From the Steam store page

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is OLD. But still a pretty okay strategy game. One of them Strategy games with an Avatar commander, I kinda like those types of games. In this case you directly control a battle mage, or rather his astral projection, and of course you direct the troops. You can arm your army with special equips, your troops can drag items, and you can do quests for towns and of course delve into the story. And ofcourse the mage can also cast some spells from his projection. There's also a level…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well. This game seems to be one that everyone missed even when it's on sale in Christmas. The 66% approval rating is kinda low mostly because there seems to be a bunch of people have problem running this game and posted it in review. However those reivew were posted sometime ago and I don't seem to have any issue running it on my Windows 8.1 and Lenovo thinkpad. I will give it a thumb up so maybe there are more people try thie one out. It's a fairly simple game that you are have a Astral…

Gameplay / Story A thousand years have passed since the great battle between the Lord of Chaos and the forces of order. Little by little, life returned to normal and the rulers of the peoples came to an agreement. The continent of Daenmor, their new home, was divided into the empire of humans, the forest of the elves and the dungeons of the dwarves. Only the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is old and it's noticeable via the graphics, but it runs smooth and it doesn't hurt the game play. I can't tell about the other languages, but at some parts English voice overs were not so good. Despite all this I do like the game. It's something different and the story kept me interested. The characters are interesting and the game has a lot of diversity. Since the store page has some modified screenshots here's one of mine:…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had known this game for a f#ckload of time. However I had only played the demo back then, and had played the first levels of the original game. When it went down a lot at a sale, I decided to give it a try and see if it was worth it. As usual I'm gonna start by what the game does poorly and go up from there, so you know what to expect. First and foremost, the biggest problem this game has is the padding. Units are slow and objectives usually tell you to go here, then go there, making you…

unlabelledView post →Much better than the previous game, but still kept major of issues from it. But much longer story with 4 campaings instead of 1 makes it much better. And as I gave 9/10 for the last one, I will have to give this one 9.5/10, as it is certainly better than the previous one (:

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Almost identical to the previous title, with more content, but more issues. Average RTS/RPG blend with average RTS/RPG execution __________________________________________________________________________ Overview: Continuation of Battle Mages, this game is a RTS/RPG blend with stronger emphasis on the RPG side with intensive micro The game has 4 different campaigns, multiplayer mode and supposedly "single levels", but just like in the previous title, there is no way to play…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome adventure & ambiance, but keep in mind this is an extremely slow paced game. In many cases you have to move your units for 10-15min across the map without much action. The game is also a micro-management nightmare, and a true ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FESTIVAL of bugs & glitch of all sorts. You MUST be careful and save your progress like crazy; because you can never tell what bug is coming next to possibly ruin your actual mission. You have to be prepared. physically and mentally. there's alot of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a good game but a little vauge on whats gonna happen like when you on the second level (not including prolog) the mage guy tells you to attack the goblins blocking your path but that does not tell you that that will make all goblins hate you soo i guess other wise its a good game and is easy to run litteraly can be run on the 1\4 of a toaster proccesing power of my desktop

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battle Mages: Sign of Darkness, developed by Targem Games and published by ESDigital Games, is a strategy and role-playing hybrid that feels both ambitious and stubbornly rooted in an older design philosophy. Rather than following the conventions of either genre cleanly, it blends elements of both into a structure that can feel unique but also uneven. The game places you not as a traditional hero on the battlefield, but as an overseeing magical presence, directing units, casting spells, and…

unlabelledView post →This game is a prequel to the original and once again immerses us in the world of Denmor. A thousand years have passed since the Cataclysm forced humans, elves, dwarves, and orcs to coexist, yet the conflicts between these races remain unresolved. Humans and elves continue to argue over their superiority; secretive dwarves plot unknown but dangerous schemes in their undergrounds; and orcs dream of eradicating everyone who is not like them. The fragile peace couldn't last long: a single spark…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Battle Mages: Sign of Darkness" is an ancient game from 2006. It's a whopping 17 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge. It's an RTS with RPG elements, very, very much a ripoff…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are in a mood for a RPG-RTS hybrid that can be REALLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DIFFICULT at times and for some cheesy writing, then this is exactly what you are looking for. You'll most probably never finish it but for sub-$1 this is a lotta bang for your buck. The original is pretty much the same, just with poorer UI.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A clever idea that lacks polish. Cleverness: As other Battle Mages games it takes an interesting twist on the notion of a "hero unit" in the RTS genre. The hero is you, a mage who is astrally projecting around the battlefield. You command your units like a normal RTS, and your hero unit can cast spells, like a normal RTS. The main differences that make this game clever is that the levelling options for your hero are much more interesting than most hero units in the RTS genre. Four skills that…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a great game and i wish they make another battle mages game :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The other one I haven't let go of, but its basically Battle Mages where the entire point of the game is spell writing with a modular spell language system that has 13 colleges of magic to bind it all together into taking turns walloping one another with magic.

unlabelledView post →Have you played the game Battle Mages that came out 3 years earlier from the same developer? If not and this series looks interesting to you, play Battle Mages, not this one. This is effectively a standalone expansion to Battle Mages. However, it feels like a low-effort cash grab- it's very buggy (sometimes to the point of making it impossible to win scenarios because it's impossible to complete a quest), scenarios involve a lot of monotonously going back and forth (moreso than the original)…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's an easy badge to craft. this is a slow moving game. you fly around the map in this high camera position controling troops that fight enemys on the map. There is some leveling up. Im sorry I just dont see anything special about the game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battle Mages: Sign of Darkness shows promise with its blend of strategy and RPG elements, but it falls short in several areas, even for the price. The controls feel clunky, and the overall gameplay mechanics lack the polish expected, which makes it hard to fully enjoy. While the concept of commanding your own army is appealing, the execution is underwhelming. I appreciate the affordable price, but the game could have benefited from more refinement to fully realize its potential. Time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The quests let you herd a pack of slowiy moving mobs through a map wondering where the hell you're supposed to be going. I'd prefer a stupid arrow pointing a direction as the details are lacking every time unlike in Morrowind for example. This is bargain bin stuff and gets repetitive real quick, wouldn't recommend unless you get a nostalgia boner for this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →make a sequel, please.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →enjoyed it very much, wish there was another part :(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game rocks, I don't know how my brother and i even found it at the age of like 7 but we did and we played and finished it. 10/10 You can can relax and walk around the map and do different quests as you go through the storyline, each village directly benefits from you when you help them. Totally wish someone did a mod for this and made a custom campaign

(As far as I can tell this is the exact same engine as Battle Mages, maybe an expansion, but has zoomed in story segments with third person over the shoulder view. Here's what you need to know: The tutorial is still kinda lacking. It's just a tad bit better than the first Battle Mages' .To summarize, you must preserve your units as best you can.Stack up gold, aquire artefacts from dens and kill all the monsters to get exp for your character and your units.Complete all side quests to make it easier for yourself further into the…
