42 of 42 · most liked first(EDIT) 6.2/10 - I had to change my tune... Almost everything about this game is great. Even though it's 10 years old the story and graphics are still good enough to really enjoy. Honestly, the controls were the worst part. Navigation was a real task. I prefer straight point and click for this genre. You always have to rotate your view to the right 360 degrees as opposed to going left. It's pretty annoying. (The controls are greatly improved in later games.) I originally voted this game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a classic first person adventure game with a mysterious storyline and a likeable main character. The puzzles are creative and not frustrating at all. The locations in the game feel authentic and the great sounds and music make it very immersive. The game also teaches you to play real "ancient" boardgames as a part of the story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a Point´n Click, Agon - The Mysterious Codex is somewhat competent. It features great music, good voice acting and a compelling story that is being slowly built up as you play. The puzzles can be hit or miss, as is customary with those games, but they are generally okay. However, AGON was originally planned to span 14 different episodes, 3 of which are in this "trilogy", with the fourth one available separately on Steam. The other 10 episodes never came to fruition, so the story of Samuel…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That's a bad Point&Click game. Mainly because I hate games with puzzles too hard that I have to play the game constantly referring to walkthrough. I gave up in disgust in Lapland after heavily relying on one in London and found the puzzles just as obscure and irritating. The controls are also annoying. You use arrows to move forward and then you have to click and hold to turn in different directions. It was easy to miss inventory items. And at the end I suffer from headache & nausea caused by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a nice game, some puzzles are easy, some are very hard. The story is great and well done implemented with puzzles, It's a lot of readings in game. There are many books or peaces of papers to read in the game, but if you like to know more about story then just read it. They are two board games to play in game. They are not to hard to play. Ambiet music is awsome, voice actors are great. The lenght of the game is good, about 7 hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old game ? not good graphics? just click to play ? looking soo easy ? its the game that will give you a very tough time ,and you will hit your head to solve a puzzle ,u may get a crack on head but still cant solve the puzzles.. am amazed how they made such a wonderful piece long back... specially board games are mindbubbling... you will remember those puzzles for soo many days...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pros + dated but still nice looking pre rendered graphics + decent voice acting + hard to solve but enjoyable puzzles. you have to read all letters, books and examine some drawings to solve all these puzzles. there are also inventory puzzles you can combine some items + nice background musics + engaging story + game drops cards cons - there are frustrating maze sections - there are some instances of pixel hunting - game is using Myst style 360° views. this is not so bad thing but little bit…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game!! Tons of cutscenes to consist making this game a movie/game! The details in this game are amazing! Along with the animations of objects opening up. Voice acting and music feels well done for its time. If you are fan of point and click games get this game! Pros 360 degree panning Subtitles available Animation board games to play Steam Trading Cards In-game journal records most dialogue Ambient sounds and background music add atmosphere Voice acting Different type of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game relies heavily on obscure puzzles with obscure solutions hidden in the surroundings (maps, books, encyclopedias etc.). Even though I got frustrated more often than not, I still enjoyed the game enough to recommend it, and I reckon it has too few review on Steam as it is. The game is definitely suited for experienced adventure gamers, who like very tough puzzles. PS. The board game played after each level was the best part of AGON for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WHEN THE WHOLE IS POORER THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS Even though I agree and respect some of the points made by reviewers who recommended this game, unfortunately I can’t bring myself to do the same. This is always unpleasant, since I recognize game developing is almost a calling and a struggle at the same time, especially for smaller studios. In that regard, my passion for gaming makes me biased towards those that provide me with such entertainment, so I’ll just try and describe my experience…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AGON - The Mysterious Codex is a physically painful slog, but it brings enough board gaming to beat back boredom. Though a true point & click, AGON attempts to simulate a 3D environment by forcing the player to navigate through 360 degrees of panoramic nausea. Each "step" forward brings another small slice of motion sickness, while artificially ramping up the difficulty... and the frustration. Points of interest are only accessible from one of the faux-3D layers, so examining the top of a desk…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Mysterious Codex is the first 3 episodes of the Agon adventure series. Not the most gripping story, personally I found it difficult to keep engaged. Visually it looks very dated, though the sound is adequate. Interesting puzzles that certainly require some extra thought. Have a pen & paper ready because you are going need makes notes... a LOT of notes. The game has a horrible control system. It involves rotating your view by click-dragging the mouse whilst being limited to plotted…

I gave up in disgust in Lapland after heavily relying on one in London and found the puzzles just as obscure and irritating. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I came to play this game because I really enjoyed Yoomurjak's Ring. I think this context matters. This game feels disconnected. It is "episodic" in its nature, as a compilation of 3 separate games, but they are basically incomplete even together. It's a series of small puzzles in 3 sections in which the most interesting part is just reading letters and books. This is not as entertaining and doesn't feel like a culture exposition like Yoomurjak's Ring did. It feels like a free flash adventure…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is not terrible but, perhaps due to its age or my particular system, I can't progress past the second chapter due to an inability to move the plate in the train master's office. I have a typed up guide that I'm using and even though I have done everything it said in the exact order it said it, it's impossible for me to manipulate the plate and therefore progress in the game. Still, I picked it up on sale for less than $1, so I'm not really angry with it. I'd just caution against…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great story line.. Good gameplay... Some puzzkes are easy , others are slightly hard.. Too much readings.... 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This style is too old and no longer see it anymore This game made me hard to control and broke my mouse PC Sorry, that's too old and I can't play it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, just wow. This is a Myst style game with very good production values for the time Good voice acting and animations,. The story is okay but OMGosh it is one of the most tedious frustrating games I have played! It has 360 degree movement and it's incredibly easy to miss clues , there's lots of reading that has no relevance to the solution. I just started trying to follow a walkthrough and even THAT was frustrating as it was so easy to miss things. This is only for the most patient adventure…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i tortured myself with this trash for the cards and because i got it for free from a buddy. thanks for the 12 pesos suckers. terrible controls, incredibly slow movement, no windowed option, no borderless window mode, no resolution option, making you painstakingly hover over a virtual keyboard with the mouse to type long sentences instead of just letting you write them with the keyboard that you have, on a PC game, no option to rewatch a cutscene if you accidentally skip it, and to top it all…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only buy it for the steam cards. There is no reason to play it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not recommended, unless you can get past its aged gameplay. I struggle with games that have poor handling, awkward controls and dated mechanics which are just so frustrating at times. AGON needs a lot more options and overall quality of life tweaks to make it an enjoyable experience for me. I'd enjoy it much more if you could walk around freely. With that said, it seems to have good writing, an interesting mystery that slowly unfolds and the general look of the era is captured well. If you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering I play this in 2021, well. 15 years after its' release... I feel sorry for the game. It really seemed cool, but it has some problems. Let me rate parts of game: Voice acting is average. Graphics - okay, animations - rather below average. Details - tons, but poor quality, e.g. you have books, but font is illegible. Music - good. Gameplay - awfully slow. Pace of the game is slow. Storywise - okay. But I did not understood the start at all. It's generally average game that is not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We just finished all 4 available chapters of Agon: The Mysterious Codex. The first three chapters were released as a unit back in 2006, while Chapter 4 came out in 2008. Chapter 1--London: This takes place late on a rainy night in the offices and storage rooms of the British Museum. It is the early 1900s. The game features 360 degree motion, and the graphics are actually pretty decent. We played the game on Steam. Players must use books, maps, telephone, typewriter and make a guard…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately, this game wasn't quite for me, though I can see it might appeal to others with more patience for its particular style. I struggled with the movement system—while the game appears to be fully 3D, navigation is actually click-based, advancing meter by meter. This made exploring the world feel slow and cumbersome, especially in the early sections where you need to travel between rooms and down to the cellar multiple times. I spent a fair amount of time just clicking my way back and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AGON - The Mysterious Codex (Trilogy), developed by Private Moon Studios and published on Steam by M.INDIE, is a classic point-and-click adventure collection that compiles the first three episodes of the AGON saga into a single package. Rooted in traditional adventure game design, it follows Professor Samuel Hunt, a British Museum historian drawn into a globe-spanning mystery involving ancient relics and legendary board games collectively known as the “AGON.” Structured as an episodic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a mixed bag. Pros: 1. Decent story 2. Voiced 3. Interesting historical games instead of generic minigames 4. Generally OK puzzles, not too hard, but usually not trivial either. 5. A lot of lore. Cons: 1. My main complaint are the controls. It tries to follow the movement schematic present in for example Myst series, but simply has too many movement points often one too close to another. This leads to a situation where you can't interact with some object just by you, cause it's not part…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's old, which is the most gracious thing I can say about it. It hasn't held up, whether it be for controls, puzzles, graphics, or visibility.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was an unexpected treat the puzzles were real old style puzzles, lots of turny things and braining things out with very little instruction, but lots of books that may come into play. Only criticism is I had trouble finding what I was suppose to do at the start, because of all the books but read everyone just in case, but once the first puzzle clicked into place I was loving it. Good story, loved the cutscenes and different environments really glad I found this going straight into the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game bought for 1 Euro it is ok, the puzzles are nice and locations are interesting. The interface of course is horrible, but that is the least problem for me. The Sword of Toledo offers much better story IMO as it all happens in the same place and makes the story and game more coherent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has good game play for and older game. Most of the puzzles are fun. I wish there was not so much reading because my Dyslexia. But the reading is interesting. Just wish I could have the option to listen.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game is very great. I highly recommend this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: Adventure - WC - Walk Clicker Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Swimming camera between still scenes make for uninteresting and dated gameplay. Text heavy. Small environments with slow progression. Walkthrough required.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The atmosphere, voice acting, and Professor Hunt's characterization are genuinely well-crafted, but the biggest issue is length: the whole trilogy clocks in around 4 hours total, roughly 1-1.5 hours per chapter, which is thin for three "episodes" bundled as a full game, and each chapter is fully self-contained with no overarching puzzle tying them together to add extra depth. Reviewers at the time also noted the in-game conversation sequences were stiff, with occasional lip-sync/animation…
