Needless to say, queue the unhinged excitement from within the horror community when word came around that Raynal was releasing a new voxel-based survival/stealth horror game called 2Dark; it raised over $51,000 CAD on Ulule in 2014 and was finally released three years after the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →always onine DRM. I wouldnothave bought it if I had known at purchase.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah it's "too dark" alright, can't see ♥♥♥♥ even with flashlight, my eyes hurt.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Are you the type of punter who wishes more "horror" video games actually lived up to the genre's name? Are you someone who yearns for themes slightly darker than "evil biochemical company makes monsters out of home-brewed viruses in the name of world domination"? Then try this premise on for size: You're a father on a camping trip with your wife and two children. A shriek is heard while the other family members are off gathering firewood, and it isn't long before your flashlight is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, there is a problem with this game since when it launched (2017) that has not been fixed, and the devs are aware. When you have a windows account with a special letter your game will not save, meaning that, in order to play the game and save properly you will have to create another windows account. The game itself might be good, I gave it a try a few years ago, but now I want to go back into it and I'm just not willing to make my way around a game that was supposed to have been fixed more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2Dark was Frédérick Raynal's (from Alone in the Dark) return to horror games in 2017. Boy, what a mess. While the game is technically stealth, stealth is impossible as nothing works: enemies, traps, scripted events. It is filled to the brim with shock value stuff (seriously f'd up) but that's it.
unlabelledView post →The game has 6 levels glued by full-fledged story which are featured by unique children-related dark theme and style. Each one is a large area where you should save some children, but how you will do that is up to you. I mean, there are a lot of ways to solve tasks and some of them aren't obvious and it's fun to seek and discover them. You can think of it as a real-time environment puzzle. Though it's not a perfect game I just don't even want to talk about any cons. There aren't any serious of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really appreciate what this game tries on, but it is definitely not for me, and possibly not more many other players... In short, it's definitely not "catchy" or "mainstream" in every possible sense. Well, it's indie, of course! No problem with that, but I really feel like there wasn't much of an attempt to make this game even a tiny bit accessible, and that's too bad, because I believe the result is that it really limits the crows of potential players. The premise is very good, if you're…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found the name of the game to be quite appropriate: too dark. Pretty much as soon as you start this game, you seem to ALWAYS need some short-lived implement to explore: batteries for a flashlight, candle, a lighter... A good concept with creepy atmosphere (it's always dark), but too hard for me so I didn't enjoy the little of it I played/explored.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2Dark is mostly stealth 2D pixel art game set in a dark world where you play an ex-cop who rescues kidnapped and abused children. It's title screen warning doesn't lie either. It's dark, disturbing, gory, and brutal. Every level is a stealth puzzle where you will have to avoid things like enemies, traps, and environmental hazards all the while locating and leading children to safety. Darkness and silence are your friends as are candies that can be used to guide the children and distract…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried playing this game a bunch of times- because I love the art-style and some of the people behind it, but man- I just can't. I would play a 3dark, but honestly- this one disappoints. The gameplay simply isn't fun, nor is it well constructed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gloomy dark story hooked me, I just wish I enjoyed the actual gameplay better. It was weird to sneak around the dark continually getting eaten by spiders and rats.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate that it took me 2.4 hours to figure out that I didn't like this game when 2 hours is the cap for a refund. This game has the mood and ambiance down pat, and that's what kept me going for the 2.4 hours I played the game. Unfortunately, the game's mechanics kept me annoyed most of those two and a half hours or so. The engine is clunky, the stealth system too finicky (a stealth game needs consistent parameters for stealth working, but this game's stealth is too janky). I also feel like the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very disappointing. Not really a survival horror but a weird horror-themed puzzle game based around saving children from paedophiles. Lacks the atmosphere some of the scary props deserve. Insta-kill traps hidden in the dark (I get you can use your flashlight but why insta-kill??). Crappy voxel-art style.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot to like about this game, and a whole lot to not like about the game. The game has great artwork, atmosphere, and music. Unfortunately, the things that actually make it a game are frustrating. The controls are good and responsive moving around, but when it comes to inventory management it outright sucks. Inventory management, ugh! Trying to run while selecting something other than what you have in your hand is a huge chore. There is a toggle for last item you had in your hands…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to recommend this game but I can't. Loving the story and how bluntly this game outright hits you in the face. It's dark, it's gritty and it may make you choke on several occasions during your first playthrough. However, this is a hardcore title, and when I say hardcore I'm talking no auto save (which is fine by me) but also no independent save slots. There's no way to tend to your wounds in this game and so the only option is to finish the level as beaten and bruised as you may…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gritty, ugly and morally decrepit top-down shooter/sleuther here from the creator of original Alone in the Dark. It has a fairly down on the luck, gum on its shoe reputation but 2Dark was a fun, messed up experience despite the fact that it could use a fair amount of troubleshooting in the "bugs" department. The game is equal parts horror, stealth action, adventure and mystery when it comes to reducing it down to genre, which is what some of us fly by night Steam reviewers do in our intro.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was on my wishlist for a long time and finaly got it from a friend and was excited to play it. Redid the 1st lvl a few times trying to get some hard achivements on it but never made it so I gave up and just started playing the game and this is when I found out about the biggest problem THE GAME DOESN'T SAVE for a lot of people. Got to 3rd lvl saved the game (the game said it was saved and there was a continue when you go to main screen) and exited. A few hours later wanted to continue…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another one of those RPG Maker trash games. That price tag for this? LMAO
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2dark is a very dark detective game. It's so dark you can barely see at times. The movement and stealth mechanics are full of jank. It's a chore to play and there's permadeath. Instant not recommended
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the creators of Alone In The Dark...hmmm. The game wants you to play stealthy but the movement and stealth mechanics are extra clunky. The atmosphere is great, I like the art style and the music. This game has no identity, meaning that the developers wanted to make a kind of stealth horror game. In the process they made a mess of a game because the stealth is awful and kills any chance of immersion. Good idea but poor execution.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like it and in the beginning I did. But every time I try to get back into it, I fine myself not in the mood almost instantly as the gameplay is boring and just not my thing. Others may like it for sure, just not for me
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This would have been a lukewarm recommendation until I got to the absolutely ludicrous ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that is the orphanage level. I enjoyed the grimy, nastiness of the story, but the gameplay was kind of irritating. I bumbled my way through to the hospice before I decided to find a video guide for the rest. Even with that, the orphanage is just ridiculous.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Much better than expected, but not amazing. The stealth gameplay is annoying, the Child escort bit is pretty annoying as well. There's some really screwed up stuff in the game, and I really wish they'd of just let you do your own thing. The gist of it is that your kids are kidnapped, then 7 years later you finally have things figured out enough to have a general idea of where they might be. Then there's a whole lot of child trafficking, with a lot of relatively awful torture and what-not.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A unique and fascinating take on horror gaming. Story is simple but extremely heavy in tone (even for a horror game) and it cleverly manages to ride the line between horrible and quirky with the use of its curious art style to portray the most vile things that may have gotten it in hot water had they aimed for a less stylised look. I found the game very cumbersome using anything other than a mouse and keyboard, but there's a lot to love here for anyone willing to take the time to explore it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That's.. a lot of dead kids.. nice
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PLEASE NOTE, even though I have left comments on, I am not interested in you telling me that I should put 4000 hours into a game I don't enjoy so I can "git good", and then I would like it. That is a stupid argument. Don't be stupid. Skill is not indicative of enjoyment, and I have better things to do than bash my head on what I personally feel are bad / mediocre games on the off chance I could maybe like them one day. I have a life and don't play games to develop Stockholm syndrome. Pros: -…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely under appreciated video game, i think this deserves more attention for what it dose right. Its not perfect and at times comes off as edgelord p0rn, but i do think the games style and mechanics are uniqe and compelling enough to warent taking a look at it. Other than that i love killing child predators.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game with a very dark premise
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game feels like a Tool song
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had loads of fun, but my saves would be gone every time i turned off the game (2 times, both pretty much at the end)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yep, don't want children, will most likely get sterilised after finishing this title
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, I played this game. I played it not knowing what I was going into. It was a very morbid experience and all the way throughout it felt tense because you could die at any moment. It was a great game and I enjoyed the ending regardless of how short it was. There are three endings in total and I achieved all of them. After playing this game an extra time, for the achievements, I got to truly appreciate what makes this game special. At first I thought there was going to be some demons and ♥♥♥♥…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am sorry but this game is legit bad with brain dead Ai and story that blows ass, Oh dont kill anyone ! why does it effect the ending Nope so why the ♥♥♥♥ would i sneak around then.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After Mission 1 This game is a must-buy for fans of horror genre. It is not a full-blown AAA game. It is not the most polished title on steam. But if you like the resident evil vibe and you are okay with the art style of this game, go play it. May not be at full price, but definitely a great buy at 70% or more off. After Mission 2 Finished another mission. The puzzles are a bit confusing at time, but that is may be because I didn't take the game seriously enough(Partly because of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great survival horror game. Warning: There is child abduction, abuse, unethical experiments, organ trafficking and live streamed violence. Some scenes are disturbing. You explore the map, find hidden keys, locate abducted children and rescue them. I was impressed by the level of detail as well as its excellent use of lighting and sound. When I hid in a dark corner with my flashlight turned off, my heart raced. It's not that I'm unfamiliar with horror games, I’ve completed the first 2 Outlast…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool dark story, but terrible controls and ridiculous difficulty spikes. Would be fine for $5, but not $25.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If Raynal's previous 2D game, 2Dark, is anything to go by, a 2D AitD wouldn't be that great of an idea...
unlabelledView post →fun and dark story. slightly buggy controls at times and sometimes the mechanics seems to not be quite right. also they promised no drm when crowdfunding but still had denuvo diddler software at launch and only removed it later so very mixed bag of candy there barely edges to a recommend due to the current state
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent and atmospheric dive into some legitimately messed up and taboo topics that you probably wont see in another game and definitely not in a widely released film. Levels are a good mix of simple in and out jobs where you rescue children and larger hubs that feature all kinds of secrets and side stories.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2Dark is pretty dark... A game I had bought on the Xbox One but never finished so I grabbed it on here. Short but appears there are different endings so there is replay value. A unique art style and a story not many devs dare touch. I had fun with it and would totally go back to check out the other ending(s). 6/10 but a very solid 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a joy to play, full of vibrant quirky charming characters and has a wonderfully wholesome story. The perfect game to relax and unwind with for a few hours after you put the kids to bed. I would give it a score of 9 1/2 dismembered children parts out of 10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. It has a great art style, when you can see it, and the story truly goes to some dark places. I just can't recommend people spend money on this. The controls are janky, combat is awkward, there isn't much content, and the deaths are really cheap. It's one thing to have to move slowly through an environment and pay attention to every detail, but when the game is so dark and difficult to navigate, insta death pits hidden in shadows isn't challenging, it's poor…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While throwing candies to kids to follow you and beating them with a stick for fun seemed alright for the first few minutes, it quickly became boring. Gameplay is rather annoying, puzzles are basically going around and clicking things, and combat is terrible due to controls. In the end it's just another RPGMaker trash.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1/10 25$ you jest???
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poorly executed commandos type game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Top down stealth / survival game that has great atmosphere but the stealth part doesn't work that well and it suffers from fiddley controls. Check my full review here: https://youtu.be/CQrcK5CxjO4
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is awful, it doesnt follow the absolute basics of survival horror to call itself that, you have absolutely no way to heal and your charector will walk around bleeding indicating you are on very little life and when you reach enemies that you require a full health metre to fight they just kill you in one hit, with fiddley controls and cheap holes in the ground to add to the frustration which you WILL fall down. i could of forgivven the holes but placing a boss within the 1st twenty…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Might seem a little wierd on the first look But trust me it's good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good stealth horror game. The gameplay is a bit clunky but the story and atmosphere more than make up for that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved it, very dark and disturbing. The first level is a bit too harsh as an introduction. All the other levels are way better so keep at it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well that was 30 minutes of my life .
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like clunky interfaces? Do you like pixel graphics that somehow still lag out your system? Do you like randomly walking around hoping to run over hidden objects? Do you like luring children with candy? Then this is the game for you, otherwise stay away!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I prefer cigars to cigarettes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a rage game. The devs made the game, with the expectation that people will use guides, they also think people that just want to play a game correctly don't exist.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A horror game that actually takes risks. The game's artstyle of looking outdated gives it a charm of the game. The 2d artwork is creepy where its a mix of children cartoons but has a terror look to them. This game was fun to play and my friends enjoyed watching me play it. The cons are the mechanics can be stiffy, the dialog can be a hit or miss and the first level has far too many trial and errors that could turn off many people from trying this game.
