60 of 188 · most liked firstTL;DR: Would I play this on the toilet if it was a free app? Crapsolutely. Would I pay £7 for the pleasure? Absolutely not. I really tried to enjoy this game. I liked the art style, simple yet clear at getting across the message. The music wasn't offensive to the ears, the character design is fun if maybe not unique. But the gameplay loop was just so dull. I enjoy a difficult game, I love all the souls games, I enjoy live:die:repeat platformers or hair trigger FPS; but this game isn't…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a mobile ported turn based procedurally generated strategy/RPG with a fantasy theme. Move on the hex based world map, visit shops and caves and things, and have the occasional random turn based tactical combat on a hex map. Perfectly workable concept, but the implementation here seems to be almost every single bad decision a developer can make, except one... this doesn't have nasty ugly retro pixel graphics. On a technical basis, the game supports 4K, which is a breath of fresh air…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Talk about RNG overload. Seriously.. this game is 1% skill and 99% RNG. It gets to the point where its just ridiculous. This coupled with a skill curve that is just impossible to match makes the game's replayability nonexistent. For instance, there's an armor mechanic in the game. Armor must be removed before you can deal damage to an enemy's health, and UNLESS you HAPPEN to find a relic that lets you do additional armor damage, you ONLY deal 1 armor damage per hit. In the later phase of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really like the art style, but as I always feel with the genre, "This would have been better if it weren't a roguelike". There's no gameplay reason for this to be a roguelike other than trying to add replay-ability through randomisation. You have to play the game 5-6 times before your heroes are the correct level to fight the final boss. They can't heal, so your only healing comes from shop-bought items. I had to mute the music because it was so repetitive. The combat is actually ok; it's a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would be a great little RPG if it wasnt a roguelike Its just too punishing and RNG challenging to be fun
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not fun... ITS JUST NOT FUN. Main element of this turn based game is not combat, but battle against fatigue of your group, while your enemy is not affected, both in combat and in exploration. I like exploration. graphics of map and stuff is fine and music is too... But i cant explore and enjoy it when i know that i must rush to fight my enemies and hope that i will have on my way merchant or blacksmith, else i can make my enemies stronger overtime... I hate that in combat my…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eeeerm, honestly ? What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good surprise ! Crowntaker is a PERFECT COFFEE-BREAK GAME, a simple journey roguelite with streamlined yet effective tactical-rpg combat. Easy to take on, cheap, deep enough, quite beautiful for what it is, even the music is great ! And you know what, it's windows/mac AND linux compatible !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crowntakers is a pretty interesting game that is very mismarketed. Reading the Store page, I got the impression of a merge between RPG and Roguelite, where story and different paths would take a part in the gameplay. The well edited trailer makes an impression that the game is going to be exciting and adventurous. That is not what this game is. In fact, Crowntakers has less of those elements than most well-known games in the roguelite/like genre. It reads to me like marketing speak, where the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a weird one. I enjoyed the game, however I don't like how it is designed since it feels like I could only experience 65% of the game's content. Let me explain. In Crowntakers you recruit heroes as you go along until you reach the final boss. This is all good and well, but the roster of heroes that you can recruit from can only be expanded through multiple playthroughs. You can only unlock one hero (maybe two) per playthrough and there's like 12 of them. Since this game essentially…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are many glitches and it's been several years since a patch or update. Aside from that, it's okay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's aggressively mid, imo. Not awful, not great. Beating the game is really anticlimactic which sorta sucks a lot of the joy out of the game. Much of the game's strategy lies in choices of party composition ("mercenaries" and their "aspects"), but it's easy to beat the game even on normal mode several times before unlocking even a fourth of these options. So when you lose the thrill of victory so early due to poorly written endings, it doesn't drive you to unlock more mercenaries, it just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth getting into. The tutorial is contained completely within a text-menu. There's no learn-as-you-play experience. I'm tired of games trying to cram a manual into an NPC instead of incorporating it into gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and challenging turn-based combat with light crafting. Positioning and synergies are both required to stand a chance. Procedural levels and character unlocks make the game replayable to some extend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is like a cheese sandwich. If you really fancy one its quick and easy and will satisfy you for a short time whilst you chew on it but its never going to be a culinary orgasm in your mouth. Of course we don't all want to eat cheese sandwich everyday so its a one and done kind of situation, which is fine. If a plain cheese sandwich is not good enough for you and you would require some ham perhaps pickle or if you are a right wrongen some jam to make it palatable then you will be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, it just feels uninspired. The graphics are decent, even the storyline is passable. But the game mechanics just lack that polish that good roguelike games have. The trailer was pretty misleading. It felt like each time you start over something will happen very differently / you're stacking some kind of upgrades; but there's none of that. The maps are a bit random, but basically the same. And you unlock very little between runs.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slightly towards no. Move around hex board, choose path and make contextual decisions. Buy equipment in taverns, arm wrestle, hire vagabonds, take on quests. Battles are turn based, very simplified, move, attack or use items. If I can choose I prefer Heroes of M&M. Game have some unique decision making and a bit of charm when exploring the board. Music is great. Gameplay too simplified.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little tactics game with decent enemy logic to (generally) target your weaker characters. Not much replay value after completing, though it is easy enough to go back and complete all achievements ... at least those in Normal mode. I played Normal mode, where your characters (main character and mercenaries) retainer their experience level with each play-through. This was challenging up until the characters get to around level 7-8 (with a max cap of 10), at which point you can pretty much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty good, tough a little bit easy (even on normal). There is no hard difficulty, only easy and normal. The DLC ads more replayability but makes the game somewhat easier. The story is... well there is nearly no story at at all. Also if you want (steam) achievements, you must get the dlc, as 50% of the achievements are "locked" behind the dlc. I got it for 2€, and it was definitely worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a solid 8 hrs of Fun with this game. i bought it on sale for like 4€ so that's 100% worth it. Not the best game in terms of variety, but definitely worth to buy on sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though I really like the artstyle and don't mind some grinding, this game fails to offer anything new between runs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#Crowntakers a #Roguelike #TurnBasedRPG is a game I keep coming back to over the years with it's colorful and striking art director addictive but harsh gameplay loop it's one of the few games in the genre I never got too bored or frustrated by while very simple to play its still a blast check it out
unlabelledView post →A great game with mild roguelike elements, turn based tactical combat and a great storyline! Also nice and challenging while starting out fair for beginners ;) Rating 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Okay. Not great, not bad. Mid. Very mid.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game lets you try and enter the dlc zone if you don't own it only to give you a pop asking if you want to buy the dlc.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Glad this was only $2.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cute little entry into roguelites, but after going through the game one time to victory, I do not find myself looking forwards to more runs. The early fights were pretty similar until the mid-late game, where there started to be enough enemy variety that the same tactic is harder to leverage. The mechanic that the more time you spend looking around getting stronger also applies some bonuses to your enemies is a neat one, though I'm still not sure what the best speed to target is, other…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crappy little game with a poorly done tutorial. Gfx and music are good, and support the gameplay nicely. But the gameplay is sorely lacking, and you get punished for not knowing the rules. Yes, yes, I know, "roguelike", it's supposed to be punishing. No, Roguelikes aren't supposed to be punishing - they're simply supposed to have permadeath. THis game is Ok, but bland and poorly done on the mechanics. If beauty comes before mechanics, then this game would be g4reat. But mechanics trump…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a very annoying problem with audio in the game: crackling, overlapping different sounds, slowing down, which has being reported since the launch of the game. Unfortunately, it still persists.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →t’s solid execution, simple but highly diversified play design, and light and colorful environment is welcoming and fun. However sometimes the randomly generated aspects of the game can knock it out of balance, and quickly change a light-hearted strategy experience into a mouse-smashing rage furnace.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice, simple (but not easy) rougelite game. Every session presents randomly generated set of levels with certain fixed encounters (like bosses) to overcome. Fights are more of logic puzzle instead of tactical challange but it's fine as overall experience is FUN. Despite being rather short it has quite the replayablity value. Would love to say more but that's pretty much it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8/10 Fun and engaging, I actually replayed it many times!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure why the mixed reviews but I played for 90 minutes tonight and had a blast. It isn't a hard game to learn and so far isn't overly deep but it plays well and is a fun stress free game with some Roguelike game play. I don't recall when I bought it or if I paid full price or not but it seems to be fairly good for the asking price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems like it is good fun from the one successful session I had, but UI scaling issues and the game opening in full screen on the wrong monitor at the wrong resolution prevent it from being fully playable for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game. The game itself progesses fantastically. It starts very casual, light, and fun. Tactics around hero abilities start fleshing out as you work your hero to 10 and unlock mercs. Once you feel confident to take on normal, it becomes viciously difficult...almost a completely different game. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of it, and keep coming back.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay: 4/10 Graphics & Sound: 4/10 Narration: 2/10 ❌ Very bland gameplay. The encounters are all kinda the same, the combats lack any kind of tactical depth, and the game has the gall of teasing DLCs with actually inaccessible spots on the map. ❌ Very bland graphics. You'd think that they were directly taken from a royalty-free video game image bank. ❌ Very bland narration. Actually there's not even any real "narration" to speak about, just an excuse of a foundation for a story. Honestly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crowntakers was a few steps away from being a great turn-based RPG. This is one of those times where I want a neutral recommendation button because even though I like the game, it's one of the more neglected games from the developer's catalogue (even when the game was only a couple years out). The supporting text for the game's lore is rich, and the diversity of characters definitely creates new and exciting ways to play the game. Unfortunately, there are some glaring flaws that have never…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hmmm. Mobile game with no tutorial, game over in 5 minutes. No thanks. (playtime comes from idling for trading cards)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is definitely fun. I am a fan of turn-based tactical and this is a decent implementation of the genre. I like that you can't endlessly grind. The more time you spend grinding, the more powerful your foes become due to the advancement of the clock. I also like that the game is designed for multiple playthroughs, where you unlock things for your next game based on what you accomplished during the current one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Essentially, this is a turn-based tactical version of a rogue-lite game. Whether you succeed is very largely up to chance-- both in execution of your individual moves, and in the grand scheme layout of each level; however, the game is simple, fun, and doesn't require a lot of personal investment into each individual play-through, making the fact that it's so chance-based forgivable. Unlike in games like XCom, which require a significant amount of investment of time and attention to a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →simple, but very attractive RPG-Roguelite game! if you like tactical games, give it a shot
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice little tactical combat game with some great ideas and a better combat system than most in it's genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The character design is interesting, three different classes with three distinct utilities is nice, but some of them are too underwhelming, the armor mechanic is poorly designed, the fact that you cannot set up your characters before entering a battle sometimes leaves your archer on top of a melee enemy and they cannot disengage without risking being struck by said enemy unless you chose the one specific ability on your Hero. Some poor design mechanics deceived as Roguelike. It had everything…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a colorful roguelike strategy game that is defined by one simple rule: if you kill an enemy, you get one more action. This seems simple enough, but creative players can break the game with builds that can clear an entire encounter before a single enemy can move -- and the game encourages you to do so. Have enough armor upgrades and magic items to reach 100% dodge? The game lets you. 100% crit rate? Go for it. The ability to attack five times in a round? All yours if you can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think it's a decent rogue like, strategy, turn based RPG. Nice art and sound, well optimized too. Buy on sale if you think you might like it and my guess is you will, it's a real bargain then. 7/10 Average.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little turn based tactics roguelike.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall a good turn based strategy game with a dash of humor and interesting mechanics. Only gripe I have is that the "Easy" mode is time pressured (not as much as "Normal" but stressful for someone learning the game). If you like speed-runs or difficult TBS you should grab this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had crowntakers in my library for a while already and for some reason I stumbled over it about a week ago and 27h playing the game later I still find it a wonderful a bit too good distraction ;) Once you got used to the game rules, where and how to level up the armor and weapon and how to choose the most fitting runes. I never played 'easy'-Mode and never was able to free my king...but I do like the round based fights. Actually I wouldn't have thought that. One thing: Zoe the boomerang…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun strategy game that gets deeper as you play. The primary challenge is acquiring better and better builds and learning how to use those builds to optimal efficiency. Gold is a precious commodity and gold management is as important as playing the levels. The game is good for short sessions, start a play through, die, walk away, return and start over. You have a continual sense of progression, but it is impossible to "win" on your first several attempts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I enjoyed the game, I can't get very far. It's not fun to continually have to repeat the same areas over and over. There's not much sense of progress if you play the way you are intendedt to. It just frustrates you until you say you're done with it. Such a great base for a game. I really hope for a sequel that fixes things!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun turn based strategy game with colorful standout artwork that fits the medieval fantasy story. Definitely challenging with the perma death feature, but yet I keep coming back this game again and again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of those cheap little games you get on sale to see if maybe it's hidden gem and then after an hour of forcing yourself to play it to justify the few dollars you spent, you decide it's a lost cause and not worth any further frustration
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are only a few levels and they vary only slightly between playthroughs. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't take this game for free.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's time to save the king in the finale of Crowntakers! I'm sure we'll get our rightful reward for saving the day! This was a great time, had a lot of fun with this game 😸 #letsplay youtu.be/JF4LAWQkozg
