Developed by Private Moon Studios, this is a game which carries on with amazing plots and often difficult game play. Yes It is a FMV game but it requires much more from us than sitting back and watching the videos. . More than just touring the charming town of Eger we have many puzzles and much detective work to do but it's fascinating ; involving not just true history but also the premise of time travel . My only caveat is about the controls. Any one who has played the AGON games(by the…

Probably the best FMV adventure game ever made! The story is very long and twisty and quite unusual, the visuals are breathtaking and realistic, and the actors' performance is just excellent. I have played "Yoomurjak’s Ring" countless times since its release in 2009 in English translation (the original Hungarian version appeared on disks in 2006) - luckily, the authors have just added the subtitles to the Hungarian voices, which are great of course. Finally, in 2019 the game has been published…

An excellent FMV adventure game from 2006 that has been upgraded to play faultlessly on Windows 10. A long, complicated but clever story set in Eger, Hungary, involving an American journalist's investigation into time travel. The only downside to the game is that you have to read English translations of all dialogue and written documents. Also the video scenery is a little faded compared with modern interactive movies.

An intriguing mystery with a charming location and interesting characters marred by unbearably defective puzzles and mechanics that induce severe boredom. Positive: - Exploring the city of Eger and visiting its buildings, interacting and conversing with its residents, and taking part in what feels like a true to life enigma is satisfying and enjoyable. - All aspects of the continually changing and expanding storyline are a pleasure to behold and fun to be a part of. There are always clues to…

Yoomurjak's Ring is an adventure point and click puzzle game with FMV elements, where you playing as an American journalist, who decided to go Hungary, to Eger, partially because of his Hungarian blood line, but mostly because of a book called Stars of Eger and because of some letters from his grandfather who talked to a Hungarian professor. I really liked the music of the game. Most of them adds a lot to the mystery and to the mood, gives the typical adventure game feeling. The voices and…

zzzzzZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz...... A touristic brochure for Hungary barely disguised as a FMV game. I would have nothing against this if the game was good. Unfortunately not here: You use a QuickTime VR interface to navigate very slowly through the city, hoping you'll randomly stumble on the streets that are not dead ends and the shops where you can actually enter (undistinguishable from any other shop). I've had more fun visiting random locations in google street view TBH. The indoor areas are even…

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The story, atmosphere, puzzles, we just got pulled deeper and deeper into it. Seriously thinking of visiting Eger in the near future and poke around a bit! Btw, if behaviour of most women in the story is anything to go by, there seems to be a serious shortage of men in Eger, lol.

Made with love and care. At first I was not thrilled that there's no English audio. And some of the translations (subtitles) are on the formal side... you know? Like when English isn't the first language of a well-educated person (if that makes sense.) That was forgotten after the first two minutes. It's a well-crafted game with a unique charm. This is FMV at its best. I feel I got an incredible value for my $. I got in on sale, but it's totally worth the regular price and more. Bye, I've…

If you like story rich (albeit low action) FMV games trying to solve mysteries, this is for you. My only negative about the game is I wished the map had your current location on it...sometimes you have to walk around to find a location not marked on the map by someone in the game, and several times I've walked past the place where I was supposed to be, or didn't know where I was in the town hitting an "invisible wall".

    Pros: Interesting story; learning about the history of a small, Hungarian city; hard puzzles; love story; beautiful scenery; live-action full motion videos (FMV); Cons: Hard puzzles (thanks to Game Boomers walk-through!); some hard to find items; long, walking scenes to get anywhere (wish I could jump from scene to scene);

pros ✅ a well-developed, intriguing, and engaging time travel story and some political conspiracy about it. You play Jonathan Hunt, a journalist trying to stop the time machine from falling into the hands of some politicians who want to use it for their own interests. ✅ there are plenty of different and interesting locations ✅ there is a map for fast travel ✅ well acted by real actors ✅ nice variety, clever and complex puzzles. there are also inventory puzzles you can combine some items ✅…

There are games that grab your attention and fascination from the first moment on. Yoomurjak's Ring belongs to that kind of game. As an old fan of FMV-games like Phantasmagoria, I came to this game with some nostalgia. The beginning already convinced me of having an unknown gem on my harddisk, with awesomely well written text and actors that are as good as an actor can be - it's a total immersive experience, and I hoped for the main protagonist falling in love with the woman at the tourist info…

Excellent FMV game with some challenging puzzling. You will need patience, the ability to write physical notes (or a really good memory,) and a willingness to read subtitles (as this is only partly localized from Hungarian.) The acting is mostly excellent. The plot and hero are charming despite the history-heavy plot, and its all lightened with B-movie sci-fi quirkiness. It does frequently come across as a travelogue to promote tourism in Eger, the main setting, but the city is beautiful and…

This was a very fun game with the vibe of wandering around in GMaps Street View but with a story to follow. I liked talking to so many different characters and how genuine all the personalities felt. It had a very slice of life vibe that lent a cozy feeling to the wandering around.

Yoomurjak’s Ring, developed by Private Moon Studios and published by M.INDIE, is a point-and-click adventure that blends full-motion video with panoramic exploration to create a quiet, atmospheric mystery steeped in Hungarian history and legend. It follows Jonathan Hunt, a New York journalist of Hungarian descent, who travels to the city of Eger after the death of his mother. There he stumbles upon a pair of letters from the late nineteenth century referring to a mysterious professor and an…

I played this game at least 15 years ago when it came out at a different gaming site and this is my 2nd time playing the Steam version. Why?? - because it simply has to be the best FMV game around! Set in Hungary with speech in Hungarian with subtitles, it's not just a walking simulator. There are many choices to make, locations to choose and puzzles to solve. A man on holiday in his mother's native Hungary gets caught up in an unexpected quest to fulfill a promise made. The scenes in…

Some nice cutscenes and at first I thought the googlemap-like artwork was interesting, however then I exited the starting building and went through screen after screen of empty city. It was like Geoguesser except nothing was happening on any of them, I couldn't interact with anything. This is incredibly tedious and dull to me.

Yoomurjak's Ring is one of the most unique experiences you'll have in gaming. I suppose it's somewhat in the vein of an edutainment title. It was made to promote a Hungarian town, Eger, as well a well-regarded work of literature that was written there, Stars of Eger. One of the cool aspects of the game is that an actor from a film adaptation of Stars of Eger plays the same character in this game. The game has a really neat mode of moving around which seems to have inspired Google street…

I love the game. Immersive, great actors, pretty credible, interesting story so far, you get to discover some parts of the city in street view mode, and it allows some wandering around, also inside buildings, where you get to know a bit of the culture. When you get to the houses, indoor areas, it feels quite realistic. Easy mechanics of inventory and very helpful journal with the transcription of the dialogues. I am enjoying it a lot. Very unique game. I like games with a combination of…

I'm a big fan of FMV games and this is one of the best I've played. It's an interesting story about messages from the past with a great mystery to unravel. The format of FMV really suits this as you get to explore the city of Eger and discover clues woven into it's history and locations. The performances by the cast are great with all of them being interesting and memorable. It is quite tough especially some of the later clues and I had to resort to clues in a guide. Some of the standout…

I really enjoyed this game! I have played many point and click adventures but this was different from many I have played. It is a FMV game with lots of locations to explore with lots of details. It takes place in Hungary so all the dialogue is Hungarian with english subtitles. I spent 9 hours on the game, with heavy use of a walkthrough. The story was good. The acting of the main characters is sometimes so bad it is funny. Overall I really enjoyed it because it is so different and I was…

I lived in Eger between 2009 and 2015, so this was a huge nostalgia bomb for me. The old Dobó Square, the Más Klub poster in the Lyceum, and all the little details that come from the fact that the location isn’t staged made me smile as someone who partly feels like a local. It captures the city beautifully and offers a very interesting snapshot of the “old” Eger, which—on a rather meta level—felt like time travel for me as well. I love it. 😄

Fantastic FMV adventure. I actually have played more than indicated here on STEAM due another and it is priced waaay too low in my opinion based on the footage, immersive, detailed content and great gameplay. The price of admission is quite humble and a true value if, like me, you love adventure and FMV. Happy Gaming!

A charming adventure with a few irritating elements - wandering around Eger was lovely but after seven hours it lost its shine a bit. I enjoyed the story enough to get over some of the more esoteric puzzle solutions, and I admit I was checking a walkthrough towards the end to make sure my puzzle solutions were correct before schlepping across the map to the Lyceum yet again. Overall I'd recommend playing it, but probably not in two sittings like I did.

Amazing point&click adventure mystery game, even after 20 years! You just have to deal with reading the subtitles for what everyone says but the genuinely great humor easily makes up for it: the turkish bath guys are hilarious! A couple minor English translation errors that incorrectly describe the crest: the (single) lion parades on the Azure (Not Argent) field while the 2 symbols of wine go on the Argent compartments instead. The talking banner waves (like a flag) not twists. There's no hint…

Even though this was my first point-and-click FMV adventure game experience, I surprisingly had a great time with this one! ^^ I found the story kinda silly at first, but I got invested in it quite quickly, and I looked forward to solving the mystery in the town of Eger. The performance of the actors and actresses was pretty good imo, except for a few background characters. I loved that we could also explore Eger and see how much it changed in the last 19 years since the game first came out. As…

My feeling when finishing it: 'I kinda... love this game.' Really really liked something about it. Or several things... ... the originality. The mindset felt to me unique and fresh. E.g. the things the characters say... some of them, rather unexpected and cute. You haven't heard them in a 100 movies before, I hadn't, at least. Then all the ideas that are put in. I mean, just take all of these fake letters they wrote to put in their game. And then gameplay-wise, there is a lot of diligence put…

Interesting concept. Thought the real life acting would be annoying but it flowed well. I am better at visual puzzles, so a lot of them were not up my ally. The subtitles are a bit annoying but I got used to it. P.S. I am Dyslexic and the reading was not too fast mostly and you can reread it all in the notes.
