To others, like me, who cannot commit to long sessions this essentially renders the game unplayable unless you stick to the smallest of maps. As far as I'm concerned, then, the game is fundamentally broken. The developers were very dismissive when I contacted them about it, so I'll return the favour and not bother to write anything else about the game.

If this review is too long for you, I suggest you to only read the first paragraph about the game's content and the final verdict at the end. What is happening in the game: There are multiple planets in the galaxy. You have a different task to complete in each mission, but mostly, you have to beat the enemy or capture the planets. Although the game is very simple to understand, you will spend quite some…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice RTS with no base building and just a few units and defensive structures. The AI seems to be able to build ships without shipyards sometimes, but overall there are several (13) missions to understand and develop one’s gameplay strategy. After that, there is skirmish against different AI levels and number of opponents, as well as multiplayer – if you can find someone to play against in this 5+ year old game. Additional Details Operating System Ubuntu Linux 18.04 x64…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the premise and concept of the game both were big selling points for this game, I cannot recommend it. Beginning Issues: 1. Nobody Plays Multiplayer - While there is a structure for having MP games, there is no one to play with online. The most people I have seen online at one time were three, including myself. 2. AI Games are just bad - There is really no other way to say this, but in the two hours that I have played this game, it has only been against AI. These games typically…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this game worth $9.99? No Is it worth $0.37 in a bundle? Absolutely! Great game for those who like minimalist games as well as simple strategy games. Has the depth of a flash game however it has a great deal more polish like a proper steam indie release. I've enjoyed it and the multiplayer is fun with friends - an easy lan game when the crowd isn't picky.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, fun low-key visuals, great music, and the action can get frantic in the late game. I easily give this a 7/10 but as far as counting on multiplayer to keep going, its a 0/10 since nobody plays it anymore. The single player campaign is quite good, but only truly gets challenging in the very last mission, which leaves you wanting more. Sadly no more is to be had. You can play skirmish vs the AI, but even on the highest difficulty, they can be overwhelmed by rushing them. A fun little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very simple, slow paced RTS/tactics game where you trundle your ball of Rock/Paper/Scissors ships across connected nodes and conquer the galaxy via a grind of yawn-inducing attrition. Whoever gets bored and closes the game first loses. Has a lot of annoying mechanics, like the fact that just one enemy ship touching your production planets shuts down all production and destroys resources going to that planet until the ship is destroyed, plus an extra 8 seconds for some reason. Oh, and that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SPACECOM is like playing a less complex game of chess with fewer pieces and planets instead of squares. It's minimalistic, both graphically and mechanically, but - despite being a decent enough game - it's unlikely to satisfy space strategy enthusiasts wanting a deeper experience, and it's perhaps a little too simplified to attract the large player base which the multiplayer mode desperately needs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game boasts being all about strategy but there is next to nothing to do in the game but wait and random starting location has more than anything to do with wining.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ostensibly it's a 4X or strategy game stripped down to its barest essence. While it is neat to see just how far you can take the concept, I think it went too far. Combat is far too RNG for my liking. Since damage is dealt to a random target, no amount of strategy or even numeric superiority will overcome one side losing a ship every attack while the other has a bunch of half-damaged ships.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lazy, minimalistic and bare-bones attempt at creating the 4X game. Everything from the main menu, to the user interface, game design, graphics, audio is so simplistic and lazy, that I can't believe it was published by 11bit Studios, who create and publish way more ambitious games than this. It lacks any graphical representation of any characters in the game, spaceships and planets as well, and looks like a kid's drawing. What you see in the promotional screenshots is what you get. The entire…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Watch the excellent trailer to this game on steam... they make this game sound amazing. So I bought a 4-pack, well done marketing team, BUT now: imagine those triangles and lines and circles over and over and over again, and you'll quickly realize that this games depth of strategy is near_nill rather it is a clickfest, and the way you get better is by clicking at the right time over and over and over again When I played this game I felt like everything I was doing had no point, no reward,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No save or load functions, no random maps and limited map selection, no pause feature (it's non-stop RTS even against just bots), poor documentation. Fine on sale for $2 since the minimalist UI is a novelty, but wouldn't pay $10 for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SpaceCom offers minimalist, strategic space warfare with a focus on tactics over flash. While its simplicity is appealing, the lack of variety and depth can make it feel monotonous quickly. Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. The graphics are quite simple, but good enough to represent everything in the game. The sound effects and music are very nice and relaxing. The gameplay is quite simple, easy to learn-hard to master type of gameplay. 3 units (attack, siege and invasion ships), 3 structures (defenses, shield and battle station), 4 types of planets (resources, repair, armory and normal) and 3 ways to attack (space battle, planet siege and planet invasion). Very simple rules that create an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels like a mobile game. Wait... IT IS A MOBILE GAME. That's the thing, it is a mobile game ported to PC, not the other way around. It's fun for about a game or two, then it gets tedious. I would open this game on a tablet while waiting online, or on the bus, but I'd rather read something. It gets old pretty quickly, I haven't played in multiplayer tho. It's a basic game. Basic graphics, basic units, basic movement, basic everything. I got it on sale, and even when it's not on sale,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically a reimaging of Solar Wars or Galcon. The best description would be real-time solar wars. There are 3 types of ships. Fighters for space combat, invasion ships for invading planets, and siege ships for destroying planets. Some planets have special facilities, e.g. shipyard can build more ships, or repair yard can repair existing ships. And planet defences can also be constructed to better fortify a position. It seems like it has a lot of good ideas, easy to understand, simple…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A slightly more advanced version of some of these phone apps where you start with a number of bases producing x units per minute, and then you must direct your forces to conquer new bases producing x units per minute and so forth. :/
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not worth the money. It is insanely hard to get all optional aschievements and the game as such is rather bland.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very simplistic. Good start at a cool game, but it's a bit frustrating because there's no save feature and some of the mechanics are wonky. For example, if you're trying to capture a planet and the computer sends 1 ship at a time to attack you, then all your troops will stop attacking the planet to fight in the space battle. Also it seems that even if you're stomping the enemy in a space battle, all your supplies that go through the system are blockaded. Not sure I agree with the mechanics,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spacecom is fun for an hour or two while you are getting the hang of things and conquering your first dozen systems. After that the tedium starts to set in as there is no real story or point to conquering random nodes on a map. If you try to go for bonus objectives, things go downhill even faster since they place very strict and arbitrary restrictions that will have you restarting missions over and over. Multiplayer might be more interesting, but there is no one playing online.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It´s not a bad game, there are just better games you could be playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple, but inelegant and overall just annoying. The rule differences between the player and the AI are inconsistent, where you can only build units on planets with a gear icon, but enemy units can come at you from any planet; when they do come from nowhere and you have to send units to defend the enemy's destination, then they can divert course but your units are locked into their path and you have to chase the enemy down planet by planet which might be fine if it's just the one but usually…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot recommend this game. First: What type of game is it? It's billed as "a strategic-to-the-bone, starfleet command game in which deception, smart movement, and choices to battle decide victory or defeat. No coincidence, no luck. Spacecom pushes your ability to strategize with a focus on real-time tactics and planning." And is advertised most places as a "stripped down" space strategy/4X game. All of that is a lie. There's very little strategy in the game, no "deception, smart movement,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having this game in my library caused me to receive unwanted undeletable spam in my inventory.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 Simple game, can be fun for a few rounds but has not much replayability. Some missions are insanely hard, to beat in time, other missions are too easy and finished in half the time... the "campaign" needs some balancing. I couldn't find any multiplayer matches. Maybe it's fun with friends, but I haven't tried that yet.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was trying to be a good game but the missions are broke. I don't recommend this, if you're think of getting it, buy Star Wars Empire At War, thats a good game like this with proper working missions.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very promising, but the developers need to finish the game before selling it ! No saving functionality, my progression in missions is regularly cleared and I have to restart everything. The (few) keyboard shortcuts are not working. Doesn't worth more than 3 euros. A "pause" button would be great, given that it's not easy to split a fleet while moving... Hope the developers will update the game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gets pretty boring after about two hours, everything stays more or less the same throughout the whole game play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and addictive no-frills, casual RTS. Simple controls, graphics and maps makes for easy navigation and play. You can attack enemies planets and/or defend your own, invade and capture new ones, or lay waste to them in order to hinder your enemies' progress. However all is not perfect. Everything is nail-bitingly slow paced, from ship building and repairing to resource mining. There is way too much room for improvement, and sometimes it almost feels like the project was abandoned after the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Think there is a bug in Missions. Got to the Blackgard mission where you are supposed to build Battle Stations and I could not build anything on any system. You would click to build and nothing would happen. Could not build anything including ships.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SPACECOM is a deliberately austere and intellectually demanding real-time strategy title developed by Flow Combine and published by 11 bit studios, designed for players who value foresight, positioning, and long-term planning over spectacle or rapid-fire action. From the moment the game begins, it makes a clear statement about its priorities: SPACECOM strips away visual excess, cinematic flair, and narrative embellishment to focus almost entirely on the logic of space warfare as a contest of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's about time for a sequel
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's only a no since the game rankings are incomplete or don't work at all and there's no save function. Win or quit are pretty much the only options. Apart from that, it's a functional, if simple game. It's your basic build up your attack force and in between defending your planets, attack the bad guys with a bigger force than they have defending. Multi-player is pretty much non-existent, although if you look hard enough you may find someone; I haven't tried. If it's on sale, it may…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spacecom is a strategy game with only 3 units and 3 buildings. The interface is incredibly clumsy, if you have an invasion fleet selected when it is about to reach a planet, it will be deselect when it arrives. Battles and invasions are represented by having no spaceships in orbit around the planet (huh?). Some of the music is grating and sounds poorly recorded. Combat seems random and mostly just revolves around having the most fighters. There's just not much to Spacecom. And it crashed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game designed for multiplayer - has no players online Yes, it's another example of MP game without players. Despite having good visuals (excluding small font issues, as noticed at forum) and very 'stellar' awesome soundtrack setting proper mood (as intended - to give some boost to thinking), being polish - I CAN'T RECOMMEND IT. Game is quite simplistic and doesn't offer that much inside content, so that price is a bit too much, I think. Also AI is bad and there is no save option during mission…

unlabelledView post →Simple. Short and Sweet. I love it when games don't waste my time. I like it so much I'll go back and try to finish all the extra missions. It really shines in Multiplayer-- I got it for 3 of my friends and we had a fun time duking it out. If you like simple strategy games with a lot of tension, go for it! Reminds me of the classic "Galactic Conquest" on MS-DOS.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The problem with stripping a concept down to the bare bones is that all you're left with are bones. At least in my line of work, when we strip something down to fundamentals it's to build it back up better. Too much control has been stripped away from the player. Territories have predetermined uses (build, resources, repair). Defenses are a joke and waste of time/resources. There's no balance in the units, no counter-strategies can be utilized. There's no strategy in this strategy game. All…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good idea, but kind of messy execution. I would love to leave a neutral review, but Steam does not allow that. SPACECOM is like a space RTS, but where what you can do is limited. There are only a few ways to use units and paths that you can move down. Now it was fun in the beginning, but to me it felt like it got a little old pretty fast. If they improved upon the game and added in more units and features, I think this would be a good game, but as for now I'll say this game can be worth it if…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too simple and in the end can't hold interest for long. Plays like a silly version of much superior 4x games. The strategy in this game limits to spamming large amounts of units to win the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The take off failed. The rocket blew up during the ignition phase Even the idea of a strategy in space already grabs your attention. Just imagine infinite possibilities, so many things we have seen on Earth, but space is even bigger! Spacecom intended to reduce the scope to just the starfleet, but still sounded exciting. Didn't work out. Right away the user interaction poked me into the eye and my mind severely refused to read tons of small condensed text. Skipping the plaques of story I…

The general focus is to conquer whatever system you are in using a combination of 3 different kinds of fleets: battle, seige, and invasion. The main differences between them are fairly obvious. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What the hell is wrong with games that have the most obnoxious UI effects for absolutely no reason? You don't need random popup windows jerking onto the screen EVERY BLOODY TIME YOU CLICK SOMETHING like some psychotic popup ad. What the frick? It's like devs these days are all insecure as hell about their terrible graphics they feel they have to compensate with idiotically stupid interface screwups. A frickin' joke.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To make long story short: It's a great game-simple, strategic, immersive (best ingredients for tasty cakegame base) But it lacks players-the multiplayer is empty So the cake is raw, you can only lick the spoon-won't last long shame indeed
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its fun and eazy to play dont over think this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOT WORTH BUYING! This game is kinda ok, but to less content and a not used multiplayer makes it not worth a try. the game itself could be have some depth for longtime fun on multiplayer and the concept works right. but no players and the single-player against bots is to borring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though this is a bit "i wish there was meh-choice"; I would recommend this, though with following notices: - I feel it lacks depth with only 3 types of ships you can build, and nothing called "research". - The soundtrack is pretty nice and suits the game and it's atmosphere. - Don't expect it to be neither Homeworld, Red Alert or even Supremacy; It's definitely NOT! - The game i find most comparable to this game is DEFCON. But with that in mind, i think you wont get dissapointed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Should have known this game would be crap when I first started it and saw "Played best on Alienware". A sure sign that the programmers have never built a computer in their lives, and enjoy spending twice as they need on pre-made crap computers from Walmart. There's nobody on multiplayer at any time of the day, even on weekends, because this game is so terrible that nobody wants to play it, and the AI is so terrible that single player isn't enjoyable either.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a very fun game, the campaign was neat (but short!) and the game is simple to get the hang of but actually has some layers of tactics. However, there is one big flaw: The AI is too easy. After playing the campaign, which wasn't terribly difficult, I attemped skirmish against two Medium AI's and completely wiped the floor with them. Then I tried against two Expert AI and did the same thing - the AI just kept sending single ship attacks for the most part. I very much enjoyed the few…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Not flashy, not tactical; pure and unadulterated grand strategy with a beautiful atmosphere and deep, satisfying mechanics. Easily worth twice the price. This game is everything I've wanted in space grand strategy since I played Empire at War at age 10. The atmosphere, conveyed by the cleverly-animated background, the consistent and beautiful UI style, and the brilliant but subtle music, is reminiscent of DEFCON: Everybody Dies. While the game might appear simplistic and shallow on the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actually like this game HOWEVER, I can't finish it, and that's not a skills issue. I played a few missions a few weeks ago. Maybe a third of the game? Turned it on this morning, and all of my progress was gone. Didn't think it was too big a deal since I needed a refresher on some of the controls. Then I put my steam deck in sleep mode (so the game was still running) and took a break for lunch. When I got back, the game crashed as soon as I woke up the deck. When I got the game running…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a simple RTS, the idea is absolutely AMAAAAZING, but the execution isnt really there. The game seems very unfair at some parts, i do not like some stuff about the game, if there were active devs working on this i would be really really active on this. buuuut... its dead. I still LOVE the idea, its an amazing idea!
