60 of 73 · most liked firstcriminally underrated gem that was part of my childhood. this is hardly subpar shovelware. plus, this natively supports widescreen, so you don't have to fingle around with some .ini file
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It may not have been the prettiest child, even back when first released, But my word this was a brilliant game. one of the few RTS's where it feels truly free form in how you tackle each level. ( after the first couple of tutorial levels at least) Rarely a more satisfying gaming moment beats seeing your enemies sprawling base in uncontrollable flames. The only downside to this game is the annoying graphical glitching of the units, If anyone can solve that it would be much appreciated!…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite RTS games from the Windows XP era, unfortunatley no one has ever heard of it. One of my favorite aspects is that there is a set of 5 religeous paths (3 distinct paths and 2 hybrids) that shape the course of the campaign based on the decisions that you make in game. The path that you follow also determines which specialty units and buildings you can build and each path has various advantages over the others. The AI players each also belong to a particular religeous group,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played this when I was younger. if you have a windows os after xp you need to put it in compatability mode or run the compatability troubleshooter. You will still have some random glitches on the more demanding levels but its reduces their number significantly and smoothes out the gameplay. As for the game itself its a gem that never got the acclaim it should have. Great story, great gameplay with many new ideas for its time including your choices changed the story and adding upkeep in order…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A hidden gem of its time. Hoping they bring out the 2nd one too with online multiplayer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warrior KIng has been a great game, even in my childhood with massive battles and suprisingly a great story. However! On modern systems this game is known for its bugs and unit warping; which trust me when your playing, it can get really annoying. So sadly I cannot recommend this game due to this fact, because it makes it unplayable. Don't waste £7 pounds of money. If you are going to buy it because of nostalgia, buy it when its cheap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An absolute classic which no-one really seems to have heard of. Played this when I was younger and had a great time. It's simple, entertaining and a good way to pass the time. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ok now release the sequel, you know the one without glitchs and lack of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AWESOME!!!! still a good game though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mostly played the sequel Battles, which I enjoyed as a kid, but once I added money to Steam I instantly bought the first WK for only 99 cents! WK is a 3D RTS game a bit like Age of Empires and Warcraft. One notable thing is that there is only one race (humans). All players begin the same, but then you can choose a path between pagan, renaissance/technology and imperial. Also there is a more realistic and simple economic system with carts tranporting resources from village to village... The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game, but it became unplayable for me on mission four. The units tend to lag when the music switches track. The problem is that on the fourth mission the music doesn't come back after 3 minutes of play. There is a difference on this misison though. It would seem that the task giver doesn't show when the music stops.

CONS: - clunky & outdated graphics - graphical glitches - some AI bugs - hard to set up a mulitplayer game Comment: Old gem in the RTS genre. Played it back in 2004 and 10 years later it's still fun. The branching paths of the campaign come each with their technology - pagan, renaissance or holy/imperial. You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →awesome game ! but unplayable after the 3rd mission cause of the music bug.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly a bug in the third level is preventing me from advancing. I really wanted to play more of this game again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UNPLAYABLE!!! There is a huge bug in the game that causes units to seem to stop, then reappear somewhere else on their planned path. Makes it impossible to play....
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely loved this game! I'm so glad that it's on steam now, since my old disk has been getting fairly scratched up over the years and it's nice to have a reliable copy. While the game's graphics have probably not aged very well for those not viewing it through nostalgia-tinted lens, it actually stands up fairly well still (native 1080p, anyone?). The strategy side is still rock solid as well, and it's implementation of formations and terrain remain uniquely excellent in my opinion. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I definitely recommend it! A very atmospheric game with an interesting plot. What is worth noting is that this isn't mentioned anywhere in the game, but here are 3 campaigns (Imperial, Pagan, Renaissance), so You can have more of a game than You probably could thought after purchase. As for the game itself, mechanics and balance of the game are very well done.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game when it works. You have three major factions, with 2 of them having two other sub factions all of which you get by how you tech. The storyline is great and what choices you make during the storyline will lead you different paths. Now for the sad part. I CANNOT recommend this game untill the graphical errors have been patched and this game is very buggy at times. Hopefully someone will work on a 3rd party patch to fix all of the issues, as this is an under rated game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →awesome game, loved it as a child, bought it for nostalgia, sadly its extremely buggy, couldnt even finish the 3rd level in the campaign due to a game breaking bug. also you can not save and reload your game safely, because most of you army will just vanish, i had to try the level again from the beginning, still couldnt complete, due to a bug where i can not board my men on two cogs which should escort me to tharangia. do not buy it, its sadly not playable as it is
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played a lot of rts and this is perhaps the most confusing. The quaility is high but the gameplay is something else. It plays like Stronghold but fights like Age of Empires. I would love to try out everything the game has to offer but it takes forever to do anything. If anyone can give me advice on how to play it, ill give it another go. p.s the tutorial does not help much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute classic. Edit - Runs fine XD
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game. I used to play this game everyday during my childhod ut unfortunately it had graphic bug in windows 10. the game is still playale but the graphic ug just annoying...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its just so much fun. The economy is great and somewhat unique. The battles are tactical and reminiscent of total war series. The econmy feeds into it well also giving good reasons to fight outside cities in the wide open maps. The campaign is great. The faction mechanics are really fun and stand out of the croud. I'm not sure why this game didn't get better reviews (not that it was badly reviewed). I won't say its perfect. Minimap and camera could be a bit better. Keeping track of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game, highly under rated. Old childhood favourite I managed to find on Steam, only problem are the bugs making it virtually unplayable at times. Too old to expect those to be fixed now but a grate game none the less.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A surprising degree of strategic depth & lots of attractive women in bikini armour, although they are rather low poly.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just love the game have and always will, since i was but a little boy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a (very) old medieval RTS large scale combat game on an alternative-universe Europe. The game features multiplayer and an expansive single player campaign, various unit types and so on. They certainly don't make them like they used to, and some kudos to the developers here, this game does run on modern PCs (although there are some bugs). There's support for 4K, but text and UI are unreadably small. There's no UI scaling to fix that issue. The game interface is a little clunky and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite childhood games!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended for an older, slower paced RTS. One of my favorites from years back. Look up keyboard commands if you decide to play, as there are some (like increased speed - which makes the game progress more smoothly) that are a must have in my opinion. ***** Buy this from GOG, the steam version suffers from a unit warping bug that often makes it unplayable. GOG version works great. My steam version is only good for launching the GOG game >_< *****
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just purchased this game. I remember playing it as a child. However i believe this game is broken and has a lot of glitches because i have white blurs appearing on my screen when i select units or move the camera sometimes. or even when i load a game. i cannot see my building options. the game is unplayable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game since i was much younger and i still love it every time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its nothing but a waste of time. It takes forever to build your base to a point where you can get units out. Theres no stockpile to have your peasants drop resouces in to speed up things, theres lack of fields for your farms to get food, peasants dont automatically build buildings or go resource farming after building stuff so you need to select them again; probably you cant change the mouse speed (its very slow) and its hard to see and select pesants and units sometimes. Why do buildings cost…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →how i adore this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game does not work on steam, you will need to buy it from gog instead. Units do not move correctly and it gets worse the more missions you do. aparently its something to do with how the game handles the music, so when a track changes the whole game bugs out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buggy Mess. This game does not work properly on modern machines. Everyone talks about the warping units but no one mentions the looping audio. Music and speeches run for 5 seconds stop, the next track starts, stops after 5 seconds and so on. Do not buy this game. My rating 0/10, unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →though the game has a number of bugs. The story and the unique gameplay, makes up for it. i would recommend this to anyone who likes retro games. There is also an active discord community.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game just a shame it crashes a bit too much but it is a old game so its going to have issues.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It runs out of the box on Windows 11 in 2023 which is impressive. Too bad it may still have felt like a dated game when it released back in 2002. I only completed some tutorials and the first mission. Nothing stood out to me as a must play, even as a strategy fan. Only played a half hour this weekend, although it looks like i have 4 hours on record that I can't recall. Game is just too old at this point. If you want a nostalgia trip then go for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →idk i like it, buggy though EDIT: love it... you may have to get past the "unit warping" in Rescue Tomas, but it runs OK afterwards. Try using + and - to change game speeds as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game. You play as a minor noble's son, living in a time when the Empire that rules is beginning to falter under the reign of a despot. You will have to survive in this day of chaos and rise up to bring the Empire back to its glory. Decent enough. Just mind the older graphics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent. My childhood game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have any nostalgia for this game, don't play it in 2020 (even with the fan patch). Broken AI Broken pathfinding Tedious missions
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would love playing this again if it wasnt for unit warping im not very good at editing files so i have no idea how to fix it and there is literally nothing on the forums and no downloads to fix it steam if your going to allow old games on here at least make sure they work with the latest OS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game, played it without steam before so I don't have many hours in it in steam. Its very underrated, I recognised it in the 2014 Winter Auction and got it for free. The story is very detailed and interesting for a game so obscure, this is like a proper triple A titile when it comes to the story, you'd expect it to be more popular and widely known. If you are thinking about getting this game I highly reccommend it, if you like RTS games with a nice story and fun gameplay you will love…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of my favorite games of all time. criminally underrated for its time. still a wonderful play through today.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game ages old that had such innovative ideas and campaign that puts even modern day RTS and games to shame. Shame that there are no more games like this. A very good RTS with an incredible charm and vibe to it

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man Old School and then some. Still a game that leaped gaming forward so worthy of note.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit; should mention I preferred the GoG edition over steam as they put in that little extra effort to make the game play smoothly on modern machines and the warrior king community patches work flawlessly with it. This review is both Warrior Kings & Warrior Kings Battles; Warrior Kings was a game released decades before it's time, and by this, I mean the entire concept and gameplay. No other RTS to this day possesses all the qualities this game brings to the table in a single setting without…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →why is this game so damn laggy? its unplayable
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game a lot as a kid when it came out in 2001. Since this is obviously now much older it doesn't necessarily hold up to other games of a similar sort nowadays. However even with it's Runescape type graphics and a sprinkling of bugs I still have a lot of love for this game and its little quirks. Never finished it until now!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the very first RTS games I played as a kid. Amazing depth in the technology tree for its time. However I needed to install mods from the WKB pack with this to get it to run smoothy, some levels would start stuttering or freezing before
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game. I was first playing on cd in 2011. If you like stronghold games give it a shot
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very good 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A true masterpiece! Far ahead of it's time I played it when it came out, and have loved it untill now A game you never get tired of (filled with lots of original units) A real loss that after it's successor "Warrior Kings Battles" this strategy game was never picked up again by a Developer. ;((
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still hard good game , bad moves and you can reset whole mission, love the story and every choice you make will make changes in story and gameplay
