What people are saying
Most players find Void Scout engaging and addictive, but a few criticize repetition.
Players praise the game's tactical depth and engaging atmosphere. Many note that the combat is more complex than it first appears, requiring careful positioning and strategy. The retro graphics and music also receive positive mentions. [1][3][7][9][13]
However, a few players express strong dissatisfaction, citing repetitive enemy and weapon variety after the first level, as well as poor font readability and audio issues. One player describes it as "the worst roguelike I've played for a while." [16][17][18]

23 of 23 · most liked firstI normally try to avoid that strongly worded opinions, but this game is the worst roguelike I've played for a while. While the first mission leaves you with the impression that there is more to come, the second mission just employs the same two enemies over and over again, against which you use the same weapon and the same tactic over and over again.

Also upgraded my ship to a Void Scout. Still a long way to go yet. #starcomunknownspace #videogames #indiegames #spacesim #shorts
unlabelledView post →Very fun and engaging game that is more complex than it appears to be at first glance. The combat is turn-based and very tactical, and you need to combine movement and using the corridors and obstacles to avoid getting overwhelmed. The game also has a levelling system with perks that complement your weapons loadout. Overall, the game is definitely worth a purchase if you like tactical turn-based games, with a sci fi story built in, and some rpg elements. Fair warning, it is surprisingly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brilliant presentation with a unique design and feel for a Rogue-like. The combat in Void Scout feels a lot like a game of chess. The attacks are in patterns—think of how a knight moves—and the gameplay largely revolves around positioning oneself so that the pattern of one’s attacks are most advantageous to themselves, and the pattern of their enemies’ attacks are least advantageous to them. To aid one in their quest there are two weapons slots and three nanotech augmentation slots. Some…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Teaches tactics immediately with good tutorial. Tense atmosphere. Beat the aliens.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Void Scout is a pretty fun turn-based roguelike; you go in, you shoot monsters, you get power ups that mixup the gameplay. The weapons have different shooting patterns which keep things fresh. I'd say it's a fairly nice introduction for anyone interested to play more classic-style roguelikes without their input complexity and minimalistic graphics, or for anyone looking for something fun that's turn-based instead of action-based. The music and darkness give it a nice intensity during combat.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played through the demo version and was looking forward to the game coming out - it doesn't disappoint. The instructions are clear, there's plenty to explore, and the premise/story is engaging. Looking forward to making it beyond Sector 2!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh my God, this hits me right in the childhood! This is bringing back fond memories of X Com Enemy Unknown, it's so satisfying to play, maybe enough to be quite addictive, consider yourself warned!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easy to pick up, but it does keep your attention, and even on casual difficulty the boss fights still present quite a challenge. The switch between free movement and turn-based combat gets surprisingly smooth after a while.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An atmospheric, engaging and immersive turn based game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tense and quite challenging from the outset. The dark techno music is great and really amps up the intensity of the fights! (Which I keep running away from!)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have just started getting into this and can already tell it's going to be addictive. Simple controls but more tactical combat than you'd first think after loading the game. A definite skill that gives satisfaction when you start getting to grips with. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game and I'm really enjoying it so far. I struggled a bit at first as my gaming skills needed dusting off, but the tutorial and instructions are very clear and easy to grasp thankfully. I love the thrill of not knowing what is lurking just beyond the next few steps, the next door. It's fun and I'm looking forward to each new sector. Will definitely be playing this one a lot!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I didn't *intend* to lose most of my evening to this game but here we are... This is good fun. Lead me in well, then gave me a space I wanted to explore, which is key in roguelikes like this. Fun graphics, fun sound, nice selection of difficulty levels. But above all pulls off at least for me the feeling that I always want to go through the next door. Now I'm going to lose some more time.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not liking this game. Lots of reading and its in bad font - got bored and went skip skip skip... sfx and music muted because when you walk you can hear robots humping each other. gameplay was ok. fights ranged from bs to easy sweep. Really liked bonuses that can combine with each other and thats it - good for doing something while listening to podcast
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank you! Like every game, there are tons of things that could be added to Void Scout! But there's always that balance of whether the addition improves the experience or not. I hope it does with these latest changes.
unlabelledView post →Meant to have a quick look but got totally sucked in! A retro feel with an engaging and sinister story keeps you coming back to clear just one more area before you leave. A lot of fun, highly recommended.
