60 of 114 · most liked first[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/34907518/]Games for Lovers - only GOOD local co-op games! North & South from 1989 was one of my favorite Amiga games. A simple strategy game with small action minigames, I loved to play it against a friend. It was really something special at that time. I even read the comic series after playing the game. Ah, those childhood memories! The first remake for the PC was called The Bluecoats: North vs South and developed by Little World Studio. It was…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The control scheme is messed up and no option to change keybinds. A shame. A great game back in the day on the Amiga but now? Not worth it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UPDATE: Changed to 'recommend' because the latest update addressed my main issue (default keymap was inappropriate for English language keyboards) and the game is now playable with a QWERTY keyboard. This is a fun little beer & pretzels type game about the US civil war using the cheerful, bulge-nosed characters from the graphic novel series "Les Tuniques Bleus". There is a very simple strategic layer in which armies are moved around a US map, but the heart of the gameplay is a series of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: ✅ Achievements. Cons: ❌ Poor mouse aiming and overall feel during first person battles. ❌ There are only train and fortress battles in first person mode and the top down battles are extremely easy and can be exploited because the enemy AI is very poor.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is full of bugs, errors, AI should be improved a lot, keyboard commands are not always comfortable, the map is quite uncomfortable. But it was my favorite game on the Amiga and that's okay then UPDATE After 24 hours of gameplay the thing I find most annoying during the assault on the forts is the lack of footsteps in the enemies and the spawn behind them
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game and they fixed the keyboard WASD problem now the game play as expected. I like the graphics and sound and gameplay. It feel like i remember the amiga version ( in the big battles ) and in the fort you run arround like an fps game and shoot the enemy and once you killed everyone you win.. it feel like a classic north and south game. I think this game is better than the "old north vs south" game that they sold a few years ago and that was removed from the shop page to make way for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls are messed up, it is unplayable this way. Very sad, because it is a very good game. I will buy it when there will be an option to remap the control keys.

The Bluecoats: North & South: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was in the middle of my teen years when the original version of The Bluecoats: North & South game was released for Amiga and Atari St. I still remember the excitement at the gaming shop where I was working on the day the game was actually released. You see, back then in the Francophone world, Les Tuniques…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It makes me sad to see my beloved Amiga game being bastardized. These FPS sequences don't even work. You can't hit the enemies in a defense mission! Shoot them 5 times point blank - no hit. No. Thanks. No. Buggy $h!t.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People who will like game: Old people who enjoyed the original but aren't too precious New people who want a quick, fun strategy game based on the American Civil War People who won't like the game: Old people who enjoyed the original but are too precious New People who don't like retro style games with ropey mini games Thoughts: I really enjoyed it for 2 hours solo playing through the 4 campaigns (yes they are short) but there is a 2 player local mode and different difficulties to try. The FPS…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this from a humble bundle and was feeling nostalgic. Was really expecting something close the original Amiga 500 version but just updated for today. The controls are the most confusing ones that I've ever encountered and everything feels like it was made a decade ago, with no actual play testing or asking if the players would even enjoy playing this game. This is just a really really bad version. The devs should really be ashamed of themselves.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The map is very small and the story mode finishes too quickly, but this game still deserves a positive review. Gameplay: The mix between turn-based tactics and FPS is really well done. The map should have offered more areas to conquer to make the game longer, this game lacks content and it's a shame because the idea is great and everything has been perfectly done. FPS battles in forts or on trains are brilliant and add a real bonus to the gameplay that would otherwise be saddened by the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe if you hadn't turned the train and fort attacks into a clunky FPS this would be amazing, such a shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs a fix for the controls. gutted, was really looking forward to playing this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →impossible to win battles....Controls are crap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Faithful adaptation of the amiga classic with some 3d fps thrown in for fort and train captures. Don't know how much this will appeal to people who haven't played the original, but I enjoyed my first game. The controls most reviews are complaining about have been fixed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original was great, this is not. The controls are atrocious, the AI is bad and the user interface is overloaded with bad graphics. Don't buy, don't take for free, just avoid. Would refund if it wasn't from a bundle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is nothing but a cash-grab. The first person mini-games are buggy with horrible controls.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the changes are bad the 3rd person mode is easy and not fun just wanted to play the old game with a freind.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →reminds me of my happy Amiga 2000 days ....
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →terrible gaming experience. during the castle assault phases with the 3d shooter it is difficult to aim because it has a really strange behavior, the pointer often does not work and deceives by remaining white when you aim at the enemy... the game logic seems really poorly made to me, even the classic battle parts are chaotic and random.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it for one dollar on sale, and it's dissapointing. I personally don't care that much for amiga original beacuse I never played it, but even in comparison to the older Bluecoats remake it's dissapointing. It could be pretty great but turning train and fort scenarios into clunky FPS simply isn't that fun in comparison to the simple arcades from previous game. Clearly there wasn't given much thought and planning here, or it's a cashgrab.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Good • Nostalgic Art Style: The Bluecoats: North & South captures the charm of the original comics with a visually appealing and nostalgic art style. • Historical Setting: Set during the American Civil War, the game provides an educational and historically rich experience, immersing players in the conflict. • Classic Board Game Feel: The adaptation maintains the essence of the classic board game, offering a familiar and enjoyable experience for fans. The Bad • Limited Campaign Depth:…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad, actually. I read the controls were not good originally but that an update fixed it, for me they were working with an American keyboard. The new 3D shooter fights are not bad but I miss the original jump'n'run environments.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a great game to play with my dad who grew up on the original verion
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This where I wish Steam had a "maybe" instead of just Yes or No. I enjoyed the game for a romp through the old NES game. The character models are taken off the box of the original. The game has the same elements as the NES. I remember putting it on easy and just dominating through the NES game same as this. This is not worth a full price. And if anything I would say maybe 4 bucks. The different play modes were true to the original. EXCEPT the train. The train level fighting was lazy game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What on earth is this abomination? It has nothing to do with the original North and South, that much is for sure. Don't waste your time with this, not even if you get it for free...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well worth the $3 I paid for it on sale. Playing with controllers in local multiplayer was a great experience. The battles look better with slightly improved mechanics from the NES port I grew up with. I was never a fan of the frenetic side-scrolling mini-games they replaced, so I actually see the FPS parts as an improvement. With a controller they seemed quite fun, especially the fort battles that include bots.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don’t like the way the combat plays out also the enemy seems to have the ability to make an infinite amount of moves before you get a chance, limiting your moves. Not fun
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A did a thing, again! WANTED is a Blades in the Dark pamphlet supplement offering new options for the Bluecoats of the watch. This rules expansion is a perfect way to spice up your game once your players are bored with how the law enforcement responds to their shenanigans. gaa-txt.itch.io/wanted
unlabelledView post →This is a neat game, it's a tiny bit similar to bored game Risk for less than $2 on sale it's not bad, but game could use some work such as the gun control in 1st person. This game has options to enable, or disable unit fighting, taking over forts, and taking over trains, as well weather storms. It's little hard to recommend, but it's not bad game either.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun except the new attacking on the forts.. Make it so you can choose to do it like it was in the original game.. without the 1st person things..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good remake from an old NES Game. I really like the new FPS Mode for the fort and train mode, but it would've been cool to have the original modes as a bonus. That said, I do like this game but it does need more, and I think $20 is a bit high. For one, there's really not a ton to do. You've got the campaign mode, multiplayer and skirmish mode, but that's about it. No real game modifiers either. Sadly multiplayer is only a verses mode, which I think was a missed opportunity. I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for everyone who knows the original game from old old times it's great nostalgy and still fun game to play especially with friend. For new players idk if it will work , but it's so cheap on GG.deals so just take it and try :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sorry, but no. The FPS elements ruin it for me. They're not only difficult to control but shouldn't really be there in the first place imho. Shame, because this could have been a good little nostalgic distraction from time to time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is clunky af.... I thought i was going to play something like Risk but with a twist but the first person mode is just soo damn baad.... Nope, at least im happy this was on a sale for 1 euro or smth so it doesnt feel like a complete waste, kids might appreciate it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A small scale strategy game where you take control of the battles Whats not to love the controls are a bit clunky, you get a few bugs here and there but this is a great time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original was a classic and seeing this remake is an instant buy. I like it, although it lacks the ability to goose the cameraman.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite a headache throughout the day, I had a great rehearsal with the Bluecoats Legacy Arc. Due to said headache, I had a nice nap while listening to the Guardians game. I caught some of the NC/Chicago NWSL game thanks to the NWSL+ service. #3GoodThings medi-nerd.com/2024/06/23/3...
unlabelledView post →No way to change controls, no manual to even learn controls. Input latency made this game hardly playable. 20 minutes was more than enough to decide this game was not worth the time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The basic idea of this game is really good and some features are great, but the sum ends at "no" recommend. Positive: (1). The Fortress fights are awsome (2). The Train fights are awsome (3). The strategy map has a nice Total War feel to it (4). Graphics is very nice. Negative: (1). Can not change key settings (2). The default key settings are very non-intuitive and clumsy (to a level where it ruins the play) (3). The battles are horrible with the default key settings. (4). The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played the game on Dos as a kid. The battles are quite similar to what i remembered. The new FPS is actually pretty fun, i prefer this over the old running around with a knife minigame. But its too easy to win, once you captured one fort, the enemy has no income and you eventually win. Bought it at a discount for 2 dollars definitely worth supporting the developers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have not played the original but I did look it up on YouTube after finishing the main campaign for North on Easy. Apparently this is the second attempt for a remake. And fans of the original are unhappy with both. Having none of the nostalgia or familiarity with the comics helped lower my expectations. It is a surprising game which contains a board with turn based strategy, battles with intense real time strategy, train levels with corridor shooting FPS and fort conquering sections with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is very slow, the same map, not depth to strategy, you repeat fights until you succeed. There are army battles where you control one of three armies of 6 shooters, 3 cavalrymen or 2 cannons, and any other reinforcements, you can only attack forward to the right and when you get to the end of map, you reappear to the left. There are fort conquests and defenses, both are pretty much the same. Your soldiers there are very unreliable so you basically fight solo vs whatever the number of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate how much potential this game has. It has a failrly good execution of blended action and strategy gameplay that fues top-down turn-based, territory based strategy, real-time, direct control unit based strategy, and first-person shooter. I didn't think it was possible, but lo and behold. It's not perfect, far from it, and that's why I hate that this is the only example of this that I've found, aside from Divinity, Dragon commander. It's slow, it's shallow, the controls for the FPS…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice to see a game blending 3 styles of gameplay all in one. Very difficult to make them work on a same level of impact & quality alltogether. Would love to see bigger maps & more factors of help/hindrance. Good effort!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Fans of the original will love this game" is a line that is grossly misused! Anyone who was a fan of the original Amiga classic will find this awful and in almost every respect nothing to be played more than once if you even bother to finish a single game as it is that bad! from clunky fps to reworked map and mechanics that just don't in anyway respect the source material. if you liked the original simply get an emulator and play the original as this is god awful and doesn't inspire the player…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game but BUGs on top of BUGS on top of just annoyances. In the single half hour session I played I lost my mouse, which made me have to quit and reload from my save. The mouse appeared on the menu asking if I wanted to quit, not during the game play itself. Got stuck with the store open and no way to close it. When I reloaded the game it skipped my turn. Buying something from the store randomly ended my turn a couple times. Got pushed through a wall when I got shot defending the fort.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the only problem with the game is that they haven't released a second one. I love the art style and the game play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't mind the board game esqe gameplay though the FPS component leaves much to be desired. I picked this up for $3 but it really should've been a dollar especially since it hasn't received an update in about 6 years. A typical sale price of $15 is insanity though and I would only recommend buying this on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just Not Good remaking it as an FPS AND the aiming control feels so off it swings on 2 mouse sensitivity in a way that you can't aim for ♥♥♥♥♥ just kills this game into a NOT recommended. this is not a 15 bucks worth your time even free.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original was great, the new version with the FPS-mode is not! Just wanted to play the original remade for modern platforms.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it with great discount, and for this price it was great. It's not AAA to say the least, but it was quite fun once you get used to this strategy/arcade/FPS. =)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Usually I don't do 100% but the game is so simple you can do it in less than 5h. Gameplay is ok but no Online multiplayer. For 2$ is an ok deal
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battles are improved compared to the original game (e.g. no auto cavalry movement, ability to dismount artillery, counter when few troops available to avoid deadlocks, etc.) Converting platform part (forts and trains) to FPS is a step backwards. Does not have even the half of the charm. Nevertheless is not that buggy as some people claim here However inability to change key mapping in 2024 is a review killer for me Overall devs would have done way better just to replicating old game in new…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Bluecoats: North & South – Nostalgia on the Battlefield! 🇺🇸💥 Revisiting The Bluecoats: North & South felt like stepping back in time, only now with much sharper graphics and smoother gameplay! 🕹️ If you remember the classic Amiga days, you’ll be thrilled to join Chesterfield and Blutch in this hilariously intense blend of strategy and action. You’ll find yourself maneuvering troops and, seconds later, blasting away in real-time chaos – it’s the kind of multitasking that will keep your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a joke game. Don't bother. Unless you want to spend a considerable amount of time trying to figure how the controls work. The devs are the biggest idiots in the game history. Just grats.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clunkier than the original
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The crew of Bravos in my Blades in the Dark game have decided that their next score is to get revenge on the Bluecoats by opening a portal to the depths of the Void Sea in a Silkshore cop bar.
