But it’s for a good reason: we are currently working on another unannounced project! 💪 Read the full update on Steam for all the information 👇 store.steampowered.com/news/app/284...
unlabelledView post →This badass drawing by Jeff Dee on the GM's screen from the Villains & Vigilantes box set is badass. I have a huge nostalgia love for this game because my friend in high school had it and we made a lot of characters for it. After finally playing it, the system is *troubled*. But that's ok.

unlabelledView post →The other thing is you need an auctioneer who has good banter and knows what they're selling. I once got a great price for a box-set of Villains & Vigilantes with the line "If you want a game where you can throw heavy objects as far away as possible, this is the sort of object you'll want to throw."

Now, after those came Shadowrun … and while Shadowrun 1E was pretty janky, I would absolutely give Shadowrun 2E another try. My memories of it are VERY fond.
unlabelledView post →Played the most: GURPS as my GM was a writer and editor for SJG. GM’d the most: Villains and Vigilantes. Early superhero game where you rolled for powers, so you’d end up with weird power combos like Animal Control/Lightning/Telepathy. Fun nonetheless.

unlabelledView post →Rolemaster for detail and flexibility, GURPS for genre-crossing, Villains & Vigilantes for character/player dualism, Traveller for character creation as a mini-game, Everway for system minimalism, D&D 3.5 for what it means for a game to be truly broken and why it matters.

unlabelledView post →Next up: Jack Herman and Jeff Dee's Villains and Vigilantes. This superhero game encouraged players to base their characters on themselves before providing the the characters with an assortment of randomly determined powers. This is an example of a game I played once, decided it wasn't my thing.

unlabelledView post →I started with Holmes Basic around 1979, when I was 12. Next game was probably Gamma World, and I first left the TSR biodome with... I'm gonna go with GDW's Traveller. The first long campaign I played in would have been Villains & Vigilantes, probably starting around '83.

He ran the Third Edition of that game and it was super fun.

It originated in 1979, and while it wasn't the first (that would be Superhero 2044) it was considered to be the first complete superhero rpg system!

unlabelledView post →I had that, and they didn't. (I remember it because me and friends were still playing the Villains and Vigilantes RPG when it appeared, which Willingham had a hand in and several characters he made from the first game appeared in the first Elementals story.)
unlabelledView post →In 1982, Jeff Dee's Villains & Vigilantes included a job option on a random table that was "Game designer/bum." I should have taken it as a warning sign much sooner. Freelance game work has involved regularly asking for donations to keep myself alive. It's common for us, and people should know.

unlabelledView post →Villains & Vigilantes, as mentioned, is a superhero game where the in-game version of 'you' is the secret identity of your PC superhero. That's the only one that comes to mind. I wrote a first-draft of one in the late 90s ('Bulletproof') but it playtested badly and I abandoned it.
