Alright. Vendir: Plague of Lies is done and dusted. There is a lot to love about this game, but it does also have a couple of frustrating design decisions as well. It is ultimately a fun, but flawed CRPG that takes some cues from JRPGs as well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3418431875 The thing that I loved most about this game was actually the writing and especially the dialogue. You know how most games try to write dialogue they think best represents the era or…

It's tough to recommend Vendir and at the same not recommend it. It only gets a thumbs up, because I had my fun with it, but I'm not delusional to ignore its flaws. First of all it is a mobile port and doesn't try to hide it. Graphics and sound are bad. I don't mind it. The story is okay. The gameplay is fast and simply. I prefer simple and well executed. The classes have their synergie and you can respec. I want to mention, that I had no bugs or mayor glitches. What I really dislike is…

This review meant for people, who want to play this for the story/dialogue/writing in general or consider such things important for an RPG. Gameplay-vise I have no problems with the game and the worst parts of it are not as horrendous as the writing. I was honestly surprised, how many people find these dialogues appealing. All characters in Vendir talk like typical english-speaking millenials regardless of their social background. Sometimes they are even using modern slang, I swear, I've heard…

Strange game with strange dialogue. There are three companions, two women and one gay man which I got last after completing most of the game. One quest is about a woman who wants to kill all men in the village, you can help her, let her do it herself or stop her. No, she has no special reason for it, she just hates men. The main quest is about killing the evil white king, which is guarded by a huge gay knight woman. How do I know their sexual orientations? Well, they tell you about it…

I enjoyed the game and I beat it. However, the lack of quality of the English text was very disappointing. I translate and proofread for a living, so it was that much more glaring to me. It would honestly take very little effort to improve the texts, and it would be worth it, as some of the ideas are good. I even reached out to the developer and offered to do it for them. Unsurprisingly, I did not receive a reply. Still, the gameplay was good and I do recommend the game for that at least.

As far as mobile ports go, this one isn't completely terrible. Here's 40ish minutes of gameplay in a video(I didn't speak, just gameplay): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtOh-Owdogs I waited a while for this one, I really wanted to be positive about it... but: I tried to have my pro gamer move moment by stealing the fellow party members gear, only to later find out that everything you find in the start zone is for nothing, because it all gets taken from you. That feels pretty terrible and…

it looked promising, but this game suffers from: 1. poor, almost infantile dialogues; 2. uninteresting classes locked into specific weapon schemas; 3. substandard plot that makes your eyes roll. result is, this is a very mediocre game at best and not worth the full price at all. Maybe get it on sale.

Vendir: Plague of Lies is not a fun video game. For a game with "Plague of lies" in the title, you can lie to NPCs only a few number of times and for nothing very significant. Similarly, character creation has choices for "lineage" which seem to only show up as an option once each, and mostly for inconsequential interactions. The look of the game is very grey. Like I can tell that what they're going for is a desolated landscape, the type of place that when you look at it you can infer that…

Dialogue can be amusing at best, stupid and gibberish at worst Quests are breakable with no warning and there's no real save mechanic to the game Quests are basically kill thing or fetch and return Ending felt abrupt with a lot wasted potential with a third of the map covered by fog of war

I really wanted to get into this. It's got nice music. There's magic... But.. After the fifth or sixth time of wandering into a group of enemies more powerful than I could handle with no option of escape... Ugh. Heck, you can't even jump into the menu and load an earlier save. Nope. Just die, which might take a bit, then you'll respawn at a nearby town.. Or you have to close the game in order to load a previous save, which makes absolutely zero sense. The UI has mobile phone written all…

Ugh. Just... just no, man, just no. This game tries to be a whole lot of things at once and fails at every single one. The classic JRPG battles, the souls-like attribute progression, the tree-like progression, but with ability to lock onto only one of advanced classes, the bleak grimdark atmosphere and the slightly cuckoo vibes of ye olden RPGs are all the things I like, but here they just somehow fail to click, both together and with me as a player. Oh and it also has a huge, HUGE map with…

The bones for something solid are there but there's just so many little things that ultimately add up to a frustrating experience. There are things I like in the game. I love the grimdark plague setting, atmospheric music, the art direction and the isometric camera style. These elements are all great and something I hope the devs keep polishing in their next game. Where the issues come into play is basically everything else. The UI is very clearly a mobile port and the controls on both KB/M…

CW: Suicide This game has a part where you can talk down a man trying to end himself. It feels like a joke. but the humor is truly in how real it is. You spend so long, paragraph after paragraph, trying to talk him down, every time you're getting somewhere something new pops up, it's comical how absurd it is yet how true it is to real life. Much like the man in the game, being able to find humor in the darkness helps us cope. Some might think it's in poor taste, but I think it was handled very…

I understand that I don't have many hours at the time of writing, but I can confidently say the writing is on the wall, and it has very poor grammar. The gameplay is *fine* and I do mean that. It gets the job done and has been assembled with competence, but little more than that. This game's greatest flaw is its presentation, and that's not going to change as I keep playing unless they change writers, composers, sound designers, and VFX animators mid-playthrough. It has a JRPG format of your…

This is a phone port that is nowhere near complete. There are many things that just don't work at all; such as fast travel. You can meet level 50 mobs randomly one step out of the tutorial. I'm talking you'll have 100 hp and face something with 4000. There are all sorts of issues like this and yet this game is allowed to make Stalve/Veam more money. <--Bot confuser! Criminal.

Very fun game especially if you like interesting, well balanced, turn-based (TB) combat. I'm often on the fence when deciding to buy TB games, as many of them feel uninspired and end up being very repetitive (i.e. click attack or one of a few optimal skills throughout much of the game). Even though I've only played Vendir: POL for a few hours, the combat has been fun and allows for a variety of tactics, particularly when you start to get into the skill tree. Since you can look ahead to see…

The dialogue is dreadful and that alone kills this game's chances of being worth anybody's time. The late 90's / early 2000's graphics are very attractive and definitely what a low budget indie game should aim for. Some of the inventory and character stat/skill systems are also mundane, but good. I do wish that more indie games simply focused on the basics like this, BUT the tradeoff is that they HAVE to excel at world building, story and writing. Vendir's writing is an obvious failure from…

This is a refreshing good game, please don't pay any attention to the few neg reviews. It looks and runs great, didn't find a single bug, which is very surprising. I finished all but one quest I believe and it took me about 20 hours. I did kind of rush so it could have taken longer. This adventure game combines a captivating storyline, classic RPG gameplay with casual turn-based JRPG combat. You explore an open world, interact with locals and complete quests in real time like in classic RPGs. When your squad enters battle, the game takes you to the “arena” and switches to a turn-based mode, reminiscent of JRPG battles. You choose one of the available attack actions for each character, then the enemies attack your squad. The set of attacking actions depends on the…

*********Updated Review********** I just beat the game today, just shy of 50 hours. I did all the side quests that I came across and my journal is now empty. It starts off pretty challenging because you start with 1 character and you're fairly weak, but as you gain more party members and build a synergistic team, it gets a bit easier and a lot more fun. I love the sense of humor that the Developers and Writers have. Everything from the dark, gritty, morally difficult decisions you have to…

Small-scale tribute to classic role-playing games that hits all the checkmarks. In role-playing games, you start by making a character, as usual. Basic options include male/female, numerous face options, hairstyles, and a few other small details. Because this is only a visual feature, it makes no difference what you choose. It matters more which class you choose; each of the four classes raises one of the four fundamental stats by five point. For example, a performer increases charisma. You…

I wanted to like this game so very much... but can't. The encounter mechanism is horrible. You roam about the map and unseen encounters simply happen to you. The encounter seem to be of any level range. It might be a rat. It might be something impossible to defeat. This method of generating random, unavoidable encounters does not make the game enjoyable, it makes it frustrating. On the shelf it goes.

What I like about "Vendir": + the "casual" style gameplay, with smooth running and exploring, good and fast combat with some tactical depth, and fast quest solving in order to improve characters + character improvement itself, with characters being able to choose from a vast range of abilities ready to change the whole gameplay on every level up + a…

I am using PC and key board mapping of right hand arrows to move/navigate around the larger strategic map world. My biggest complaint is when moving around on this map, I run into totally unnecessary rocks, trees, etc., and get stuck, necessitating backing up, turning, and going around, which happens repeatedly and adds NOTHING to the game, and it is a major annoyance. I found this game absolutely delightful and very more-ish. The irreverent dialogue fit the setting very well and there are tons of nice little wacky things - i.e. amidst your quest to overthrow a tyrant, there is a cadre of cats scattered around looking for the Great Yarnball, that you can do, or not do, as you see fit. Like most games, you can often choose multiple ways to go about things - ie you have a quest to get something from soneone, its up to you if you try charm, negotiation, or…

This is a 30-hr turn-based RPG that runs smoothly and presents some combat variety and dialogue choices. The conversation, themes and challenges are very adult: there is maturity, wisdom and a deep understanding of human nature. There are also basic spelling errors, swearing and some truly ridiculous (or 'redeculous' in game) character names. Presumably it's such a small team that someone asked his children to do the world history, proof-reading and character naming. I found it worth the…

It is hard to judge this game. For a mobile port, it can be consider good but the story and dialogue is written by a kid. You will get it if you pick this game up. The inventory system is also not so good with so many items/ crafting pointing towards mobile gaming. But one thing i like is the progress system and the combat which is good once the team starts to "work together". Pick it up on sale. Rate 6/10
