Buy this game, it's awesome! I have some experience playing Vasara in arcades, so I'm one of those "hard to please" customers who will nitpick things. But thankfully there isn't much for me to nitpick here. Good things: + The theme is super cool. In a "historically accurate" representation of the feudal in Japan, you ride around on jetbikes shooting down samurai and deflecting their bullets using melee weapons. Hell yeah! :D + Gameplay is also very fun. You can use charge-up melee…

Collection of 2 shoot em up games from the early noughties with a newly added timeless mode (not sure if that counts as a seperate entry). To me this genre feels kinda all the same, this game is no exception. It's fine to shoot enemies and avoid being hit by bullets for an hour or two but I personally wouldn't stick around for much longer. Local multiplayer is a nice bonus tho.

Another old school shooter with great presentation and even better gameplay. This is essentially a collection of two games in one package plus timeless game mode with more modern approach and 3D graphics. Whole game is made in oriental style setting with some sci-fi vibe like futuristic vehicles and mechs. Plenty of characters to choose from each with complementary stats to each other. During batlle you're able to charge and release your swords to deflect enemy bullets. Collect shards along the…

Lay on the couch and play it sideways! update: Yes that means it has easy inbuilt support for left / right vertical monitors. Makes me happy I never came across the original to put coins in them, it can be brutal (pressing a button is nicer than dropping more coins in the slot). Plays great true ♥♥♥ Shootem-up.

First up, I'm excited that someone FINALLY has bought some Visco Games titles to Steam-they were a 1990s-2000s arcade developer that did equally crazy & challenging bullet hell shooters on their own but also did several games for the Neo-Geo arcade system. Many of their games are underrated and uncommon outside Japan. Vasara (and it's sequel Vasara 2, also included) was a samurai-themed shooter set around the year 1600 with characters & names that players of the "Samurai Warriors" or…

Bringing the nostalgia back for those who seek it. Sum-Up In-depth analysis further down. 🟩 Pros 🟥 Cons • A classic franchise brought to life for those who have appreciated It back then. • VASARA Timeless looks quite good and brings quite a nice nostalgic touch to the game. • Difficult shoot'em up, that require a lot of precision and training. • Great variety of ships and difference between VASARA 1 & 2. • Boring, unnecessary story that doesn't have depth. • VASARA 1 & 2 are…

A true shmup for masochists. Insanely difficult and not helped by the poor quality port. The game renders at like 480p with huge borders on the side. The other thing is the points the enemies drop look similar to the shots being fired at you. Add those together and slow movement and you are going to get destroyed. If they brought the resolution to full screen and also had the option for a vertical screen it would get recommended but for now, get it on sale only if you like pain. I am also…

Like shooters? Get this game to your library. It is quite unique. It has - Difficulty. - Insane bullet hell the further you get but also quite easy going levels early on. - Bumping into enemies. - Quick side strafe mechanic - Melee mechanic - Above melee mechanic: When to use it is key to success. Especially against bosses you need to do some precise timing to get into the pace of the fight. Don't quite get it? Then use bombs as before to stay alive e.g. fights can be fought in…

Vertical scroll shooting is not really my thing but this one looks interesting. I tried for half an hour and enjoyed it. The first a few levels actually give players unlimited lives, so once the countdown starts players can simply insert tokens and instantly continue at where they were left. This game is HARD. I'd say it has mild-complex bullet hell settings because most of the time there is not enough space to avoid even at  the rare and side area. I'd say unless you know enemy attack…

Fun vertical stg similar to Psaikyo titles in many ways. The focus however is also very much on cancelling bullets with your chargeable melee attack. While the game is not unbelievably great I do find it well constructed and entertaining. The timeless mode is well implemented as well with a nice modern presentation.

Just saying, but I do have a curator page. If you like my remarks about games, you can find more of them here: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44130985-TDP%27s-Gaming-Escapades I always get this thought that while western developers were always afraid of new ideas through time, eastern devs had not shied away from trying new things. Like, what if we had robots in the wild west? Or what if the president of United States piloted a mech and fought against the vice president? VASARA…

Rating: 7/10 Vasara Collection is only for the most die hard bullet hell fans sadly though i would highly recommend picking it up on sale and trying it out for an hour and see how its like and also its a must have for your Steam library. This re-release lacks any accessibility options or changes to make the game a bit easier for anyone regardless of skill level to experience. So if you want a challange its still there but its not easier for those that want to have fun spamming bombs. What a rare surprise! Amazing game from yesteryear, top notch presentation, including some really nice extras, but the star of the show is easily Timeless mode. Really, QUByte? You've hit this one out of the park! And at a sale price right out of the gate? Anyone who even remotely likes shooters, needs to pick this up now.

This should've stayed in Japan I never played the Vasara games back in the day, and I'm kinda glad I didn't after playing them now. I absolutely LOVE old shmups but man does this collection feel terrible. It's clunky, slow, you have a dumb charge melee attack which forces you to stop shooting to deflect shots, a feature done better in other shmups and bullet hell games albeit in different ways. The stupid 3D intro is unskippable, and (at least in Vasara 1) if you try to continue in the final…

There's no option to bind keyboard inputs to customized keys. It wouldn't be a big deal if at least this game used the traditional PC shmup controls (z fires, arrow keys move the ship, etc), but this forces you to use WASD for movement. Who made this? Who made a port for PC that you move on WASD? Certainly sounds like amateur work, or at least they never played shmups on PC. Also, everytime you boot this game you have to see that damn 3D intro that causes some massive slowdowns. Honestly, I…

The gameplay to both Vasara games feel significantly slower than the image on the store play suggests. That's what bogs an otherwise interesting pair of shoot them up games. I'm not that familiar with the Vasara series, but from what I have played of them, these are some games to give a good look at. Each character rides on a hovercraft of some kind which is kinda cool. The visuals are richly detailed, the difficulty can be changed around, there's a lot to tinker with in the options so that's a…

I love shmups, but these games suck hard. Vasara 1 may be the absolute worst one I have ever played. Vasara 2 is marginally better, as it uses blue power-ups to at least distinguish themselves from the bullets. The game is laggy as hell on my brand new computer, and these are REALLY old games so there's no excuse for that. I really hope we get more shmup series collections, but I can't in good conscience recommend this to anyone when there are so many better ones available that are actually fun…

VASARA Collection is a dynamic resurrection of two long-lost Japanese arcade gems that blend the intensity of classic bullet-hell shooters with a uniquely stylized feudal-sci-fi aesthetic. Developed and published by QUByte Interactive, this compilation gathers the original VASARA from 2000 and its sequel, VASARA 2 from 2001, both of which were once exclusive to Japanese arcades. Their arrival on Steam finally opens the door for a global audience to experience these high-energy, mechanically…

Never heard of Vasara until this release. Contains Vasara 1 and 2 as well as a new 2.5D game called Vasara Timeless (mixes mechanics, stage settings, enemies and bosses from the other games). Vasara 1 and 2 are similar to Gunbird but it's so much more satisfying to play. There are so many things you can do in Vasar from normal shots to boms to melee attacks and even a charge attack. Many bullet hell or danmaku games have shooting and bombs but nothing else. Multiple characters as well and all…

The VASARA series is really just composed of 2 danmaku games that released back in the early 2000's and only achieved a moderate amount of popularity before the developer left the video game industry, only to return a few years later as a slot machine manufacturer. Anyway, the theme is futuristic Sengoku period Japan and the gimmick is that playable characters can charge up a melee attack that clears projectiles and deals a ton of…

Be real. You'd spend way more than 10 bucks on quarters if this were at an arcade. Classic SHMUP acradey goodness. Nostalgic graphics. Challenging gameplay. Pulp storyline. Co-op available. Timing seems to be the most important factor here: your melee charge-up is very powerful but nailing the window vs. enemy shots is critical. Solid Recommend.

I have changed this review from a negative to a positive because I originally thought the high-score chart just showed the Top 10 in the world. I was wrong. I have since re-purchased the game. The game has low-res graphics (for the Classic mode) and features old-school style gameplay. It has a Tate-Mode which is great. The Timeless Mode uses the full widescreen and offers a little something different. A good overall package.
