Now that Rogue Trader is done I can finally tackle another notable RPG in my backlog Undernauts Labyrinth of Yomi I still have no idea how a J-Wizardy game with art and monster designs by the Spirit Hunter team never took off but by golly I'm gonna descend the Mines myself and find some answers

I am 10 hours into Undernauts and only now noticed that the party size is 6. And not 5. After doing the entire opening of the game and 4 bosses.

Experience makes the real sicko shit, more folks should play Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi. The game with perhaps the singular best box art of all time.

#8 - Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi. This is probably Experience Inc's magnum opus and *the* best game to start playing blobbers with if you're serious about getting into the genre. Great dungeon design, incredible art, awesome soundtrack, and a really engaging battle system + party builder.

It’s not COVID, but I am wiped the heck out from whatever Vani had when I got back from RRW. Today’s plans are to eat hot and sour soup and convalesce in front of Undernauts. No Pistons game today, so that can’t make it worse at least.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hdL... Love this game's OST's entire vibe. Undernauts is a great little game, and a pretty good beginner dungeon crawler (it will still beat that ass tho). You can respec any time for free and change up your skills mid-dungeon. The horror/monster designs are amazing.

The thing that always sums up Experience to me is when I checked a JP guide for Undernauts which opened on an FAQ that started with "Q: is this the usual experience game? A: You know it." We all love Experience.

www.fanatical.com/en/pick-and-... if you can hold your nose and use fanatical, there is currently a bundle where you can get Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi, a game that reimagines Wizardry as a body-horror filled satire of working class life in bubble-era Japan, for $7.50

There was one game called #Undernauts I really liked that took the concept as it's used in fantasy, and then put a reasonable spin on it (setting was early 1980's period piece urban fantasy) Instead of "race", characters would have a "background", these could be chosen at character creation

Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi completed! For a game with such phenomenal character design it's sad to see the level design lacking. Most dungeons are fairly straightforward combat zones without much variety. Plus the game is way too easy for that design, making areas more of a slog.

Been playing Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi lately and, whilst on the lookout for the next game to try afterward, I noticed Elminage Gothic is on sale for basically nothing. Was on the fence at first, but then saw this screenshot and determined I needed to play this. Nothing this rude can be boring.

Finally back to dungeon crawling! Playing Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi (2021) right now. It's by Experience the same team that did Stranger of Sword City (2016) on the Vita which was gorgeous but a little grindy. Undernauts is playing with some neat ideas so far :)

I dropped a game recently because it didn't kick *hard enough* the vibes Undernauts: Labyrinth of the Yomi were immaculate and oppressive and really sold the idea that being stranded in the dungeon is absolutely miserable, but the mechanical gameplay just failed to follow through on that promise.

Undernauts was pretty good but you might have all the same problems with it I just think the combat in that game is like infinitely more engaging and the "1980s Japan Economic Bubble but they all start going into a dungeon instead" is a pretty novel concept

Like, Undernauts is a bit TOO clearly horror from the start for what I’m craving (do note though that it’s a FANTASTIC game, and I want to pick it back up soon) but it has the general escalation and mythos going on. It’s also fairly modern day, which is fun, but not what I’m craving.

Lunacid, Wizardry The Forsaken Land, or any other Wizardry game for that matter come to mind. Arx Fatalis is another one thats an oldy but a goody. Undernauts Labyrinth of Yomi is another I just found out. Etrian Odyssey is neat, it has a little map making thing as a game mechanic

I’ve played a fair share of dungeon crawler rpgs, and this game, and its prequel, have probably the most fresh and unique structure + gameplay mechanics of all. Like sure something like Undernauts also has a very weird and unique feel, but mechanics-wise it’s not too far from the average

Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi - I wish I stopped playing 20 hours ago when I reached the credits. While I enjoyed the corporate dungeon crawler aesthetic the game does not have enough going on mechanically to sustain the final act, at that point you'll be activating the same moves turn after turn.

Undernauts - Labyrinth of Yomi I'm not a dungeon crawl guy, so I don't strictly blame the game itself for not being something I'm willing to spend 40~ hours on. But I can't forgive the zero resonance between its story and gameplay, the former being why I picked it up in the first place. 4/10
