There is NO issue with the "A.I" of the zombies as others have suggested. They just have been too impatient to learn how to play the game. Protips: 1.) If you want the mobs to follow you, click on yourself so you are the target. They will follow you now. 2.) Click the mob to have them target it, or click the ground to have them attack targets withing a short range of that. That's all it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah- I really want to recommend it, it's such a cool looking game and the theme is perfect! Love necromancer games. The AI isn't as bad as people say, its a little jank but a few things stand out. 1. Right clicking moves your horde. If you right click the ground they'll guard that area. 2. HOLDING right click moves your horde and prevents them from attacking. You can use this to push past enemies then release 3. Press ctrl to have your horde gather around you. It is a little janky at times but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Took the money from release and ran, no updates in months. Don't bother
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought the game in early access and while it had its problems it was EA so that is to be expected. What is not to be expected is for the Devs to not fix any of the main issues before launch, and then abandon the game immediately after. Lets start with the good, because there are actually good things about this game which is why the reviews are mixed as opposed to being flat out negative. -Amazing pixel art -Good story building that even creates reasoning for the "rogue" elements of the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →'The Unliving' is a very strong 'minion master' rogue-lite game that actually gives you the feeling that you're controlling a roiling wave of death. Complaints about 'bad ai' feel misplaced, as your horde is not meant to be autonomous, *you are a necromancer*. You are controlling empty vessels of blood and bone. You only have to hold the right mouse and sweep your cursor over a group of enemies for your undead to go ham with an aggressive recruiting policy. Minions have collision with each…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR game's not bad at all, worth it especially if on sale. I can certainly understand why this game has mixed reviews. It's got its ups and downs. The main gripe in most negative reviews is the "bad AI" but honestly after many runs that's hardly been an issue. The "AI" relies on player commands to function, and functions fine. My biggest issue has been often running into terrible stuttering after reaching the third area. Finishing or getting killed doesn't reset this stuttering, and instead…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The idea is fantastic and effort was definitely put in. But I really can't recommend it with the bugs and the unfinished feel of it. It seems that it was also abandoned by the creators so there's that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a blast. Its the closest thing to Overlord since Overlord 2. The entire premise is interesting, the characters are cool and the writing is spot on. Absolutely worth it. A hidden gem!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abandonware. Still quite buggy, plays like a beta with a lot of content rather than a fully released title. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ main mechanics and gameplay, the biggest part of the game, are the most broken, have been, have been complained about since launch, and never fixed. That says more than enough.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If aesthetic alone is enough to keep you going, then you may still enjoy this. The art style is gothic, the sound design eerie, and this is yet another example of the strength of pixel art. I also like the writing, characters, and story thus far, and I think I'll keep going to see where it ends. However, after just a few hours of gameplay, I do have some glaring problems that are worth addressing. First, the game still has some critical bugs. I remember them being mentioned when the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Necromancer dream is dead. Game had potential but its just another one of those "grind it till you make it rogue"-likes. What interested me at first was the talk of RPG, but as soon as you dip your toes into the game its very clear its Rogue first and RPG never. The amount of micromanagement of your horde is bad, the spells/weapons you have are useless, some enemies will 1 shot you, and since this is a roguelike, that means you start from the beginning again. My enjoyment score for this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game would SLAP if Devolver Digital made it... or if it was actually finished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was abandoned and is unfinished. What a shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why is this game getting so much hate? Graphics are decent (pixelated sprites with lighting effects, sweet!), and in my opinion the gameplay is a lot better than most other reviews claim it to be. The complaint I read most often is the limitiation of 80 undead to use for your army... Yeah well, there are items and skills you can use to circumvent this limitation, so why all the buzz? Being a roguelite title it's also to be expected to die a lot, upgrade a lot, repeat. Yeah I get it, that's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do I recommend this game? Mostly, yes. If it's on sale? For sure. However this game for certain needs time to cook. It feels under baked and clunky most of the time. I really love the art style and the concept and I really want it to be good, given its a very cool necromancer title in a sub genre that is horridly under represented. Admittedly, I am aware the game will remain in this state as per my last interaction with the developers. Which is frankly just not acceptable. I understand there…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All the care and detail of the game make it seem indeed that this would be a promising story from talented developers, but it's not quite like that. But unfortunately, the game is full of numerous bugs, I would say it's in an unplayable state at the moment. Reading the Discord of the company behind the game, the last message from a developer in 10/2023 says that the money for investing in improvements has run out. This game is something unfinished, unfortunately, buy it knowing that you will…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game still has to many bugs. I've had to hard close the app because of a UI bug. Lost all the resources from the run. Which is really the only reason to do a run at the early half of the game in the first place. The controller support is also clunky for Hex weapons. Great idea for a game. Not the best execution.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DISAPOINTMENT. There you read the review, if you're a customer don't buy it for now. Never should have left early access. Now for devs: Man this game has a lot of potential. There is a beautiful Idea here that is not fully fleshed out. I'm surprised someone said, "yup that looks done, pull it out of early access" Plus it has some odd performance issues I wouldn't really want to pass on to anyone else. Ultrawide doesn't work, unless some kind of cutscene is playing then the game will render…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I was right-handed I would absolutely recommend this game. But unfortunately I'm left-handed. I initially bought this game during early access and had a lot of fun, no issues remapping the keyboard for left-handed. After a while I moved on, but now that I'm revisiting the game I can't seem to remap the buttons in a comfortable way. I can no longer keybind ENTER, SHIFT, nor CTRL; The numpad is similarly no longer supported. I can't really understand why this change was implemented, as it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game had potential, but since the company has gone under, don't bother with this game. Go somewhere else where your time and money is better spent. The game is unfinished and unpolish, and not in a "haha it's like bestheda" unpolished and unfinished, but a "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, what is wrong with these zombies? MOVE DAMN IT. GOD THIS GAME IS BROKEN" unfinished and unpolished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've seen a lot of people trash on this game. Sure, it isn't perfect, but I think it is still great. The well developed lore about the world and especially the magic is really good in my opinion. Additionally, the art is great, and specifically like the fact that there are very bright areas of the pixel art, it really makes everything seem more POWERFUL. Additionally, there is great replayability. Every time you start a run there are some small differences, dialogue, environment, etc, yet it is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this. I love the art style, the sprites are great so visually it's beautiful. But It just isn't finished, ai patching is terrible and so many features that just aren't intuitive to navigate like menues, quests, currencies and so on. There's people out there that want a game like this, me included and you already have it at 75% if only the Devs would just come back to it and add the finishing touches and show some care.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →making the horde limit 80 ruined the experience ngl game was good came back to and found a ton of changes that didnt make the game more fun. Like seriously though the reason this game was fun was because it gave you that all powerful necromancer feeling and the player was very minimally limited but now you have to grind a ton to beat the heaven area which is just not fun or interesting to fight while also having a smaller horde size. The reason this game was fun was because most necromancer…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now that development has stopped I feel like I can leave a review. Normally I give small indie teams alot of leeway, but the core mechanics of this game are trash. The basic mechanic of raising the dead, and sending them to attack is broken. Half of the time they get to the ordered location and just sit there eating attacks. Forcing you to constantly spam the attack button while also trying to cast spells and dodge the large variety of attacks that straight up ignore your horde. Its like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →still very buggy. the overlay frequently is not closing, which ends your run.you have to close the game in this case.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It took awhile to write this. 8 hours of game time to write this. I hoped it would get better. The AI of the minions, the clunky sticky controls where the necromancer becomes stuck and won't move, and even the design of how to use resources like life-force and how it is counter intuitive to the game flow. I I wanted it to get better. It never did. I cannot recommend this game in its state. Much was promised and little was delivered. Do not buy this game until it is fixed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't refund often, but you SHOULD listen to reviews that says about "bad controls" and "fps issues"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You want to be the worst necromancer there ever was? Play this game and experience the dumbest minions ever and the clunkiest controls in existance.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has been plagued with bugs since launch and there has been no updates to fix the issues. Team17 has removed it from their list of games and contacting them about a bug they told me through email that the game is no longer supported though they did try to help me with minor troubleshooting that didn't solve the issue. The dev/s have gone silent and there hasn't been any sort of information at at this time. I cant recommend the game as it is considering it is essentially abandoned. If…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Between this and Sea Salt, I'm thinking these are two of the best pure "Horde", "Necromancy" games. There's a lot of great lore, there's a ton of upgrades and the gameplay is how you'd want a Necromancer game to go. There's great attention to detail in the dialogue, the game system is pretty easy to use and the upgrades are kinda nice. I have no idea what is "mixed" about the reviews in this game. It's one of the few Necromancer games where you play a male and the action and gameplay are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abandonware. No updates since like last year. Sure, it's out of EA, but it still need polishing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't really recommend the game, there are way too many game breaking bugs that happen way too often like your army not attacking anything and u just get crushed by a stampede of enemies and many more that just screw what looked like a decent necro game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately, this game is not finished properly. Full of bugs and bad balance and almost empty. What is on the page in Steam is not the same as in the game for a long time, either it is not there or it has been changed. In the Game we go around in a circle and grind that's . Each new start is pretty much the same just with a different conversation and moved resources, nothing to discover nothing new. There are no secret new things, nothing, everything is the same. Poor handling of your undead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →love necromancer as a class in other games and this game captures the necro vibe really good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who played this game a lot (far more than the profile says as I have played in a "different" way before), I must say that gameplay-wise it is rather... honestly, rather bad. Still has a lot of bugs and areas for imrpovement even in the main aspects of the game - the primary one, for example, being horde AI. Yet nonetheless, I have spent a lot of time in this unfinished and repetitive game and aim to spend more, because there is the part that gives an almost, if not entirely, unique…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd like the recommend this game, it's got heart, an interesting story, some great art, but it just doesn't feel finished. A lot of polish is needed to the game systems, and it will never get it since the game studio collapsed while it was in early access. When 99% of your DPS is your zombie horde, and they can't follow you or attack enemies 80% of the time it's just embarrassing. I've played phone games with better zombie ai. If only it got a few more patches...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I read positive reviews mentioning the controls aren't so bad, etc, and while some of their criticisms of other players genuinely just not paying attention to tutorials and other info, the controls feel unpolished and imprecise for a roguelite that feels like it should've been something Diablo-esque and casual. For what it's worth, the writing is actually pretty nice. It isn't particularly unique, but it has its moments and I actually cared a bit about the characters. Raising the dead is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The negative reviews are right. The concept and artstyle is great on paper, but the execution and general gameplay of the game just doesnt keep up. My major problems are: - Bad AI: Undeads just standing in front of enemies and not attacking them happens regularly. - Roguelite game-concept: Random generated levels feel repetitive and meaningless. A straight forward campaign with handcrafted levels wouldve been better, - Game feels unfinished: Missing voicelines for most characters,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I saw this and thought i'd try it (deluxe editon was on sale for $5). i like minion games. i can say that from the short amount i played the idea was ok, but the devs would need to do some major work on the minion stuff. first off, the minions dont automatically follow you, and they dont automatically attack enemies unless you shove your character into the enemy's weapons (note: you are a summoner, and squishy. so that is a bad idea :/) and then, when you use right mouse to ping a location…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Devs released the game then immediately dropped it. game play loop is boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is good. Crazy that its got so many negative reviews. Must not of made it past the opening 15 mins.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So it is an Action Roguelike first and RPG later. The whole horde mechanic is interesting, but uncooked. The horde sometimes just stops attacking, the healer stops healing, and so on. The spells are interesting but useless. They are randomly obtained and can only be cast after some enemies are already dead. The 2. map feels like its purpose is to slow down the game, and you need to do a lot of runs just to stay alive there for more than 10 minutes. And because it is a rogue-like, you have to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was and interesting and engaging. Pros + The story, I loved the macabre story. + Lore and setting was intriguing. + Character were unique and i want to know more about them. + Combat was fun, spell great variety made each round unique, army management was easy but a bit hit and missed when it came to attacking every so often. Act like a weak mage , hide behind your army and avoid range attacks and you will easily finish the game with that mind set in mind. + Controls were…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game got bug. Stucked at one of the loading page. Couldn't continue even after restart of game or pc.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The 'tech tree' and/or progression is BAADDD. It's very linear, but looks like there's branching paths. And the only thing it does is unlock the powers into an effective chance/community chest deck that gives you a limited number of options (I think 3) to choose from. So, if you're like me and hate 85% of the unlocks all you're doing is stacking your deck with extra garbage - which makes the gameplay loop worse rather than better. I can't believe I played as much as I did - but then I realized…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointing lack of living up to its potential. Bad mechanics around the necromancer, bad AI around the minions, bad levels around the rouglite. Overall one of the biggest disappointments of 2023.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. There's so many cool things about it, but the annoying bugs and poor balance ruin the experience. Very disappointing. Don't get this, even on a 90% sale. The game is broken, buggy, unbalanced, and just frustrating to play. - Horrible AI pathfinding despite manual control - Your minions just stand there and don't attack - You're limited to 80 units, which still seems like too much because most don't attack - Minions body block each other, possibly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems like another abandoned product.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun necromancy roguelike
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Several playthroughs stuck in upgrade selection when other game interaction blocks the selection process. Even cancelling an upgrade is impossible. Played in its final version, not even in early access.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a Greek Tragedy: tons of raw potential, very good start, terrible execution, mediocre result. I honestly wanted and still want this game to be a decent 2d version of smth like an Overlord 2, but it doesn't, it fails and the disappointment is painful (that didin't stop me from getting all achievements, while losing my save files twice). Pros: the characters, story and art design. They are not great, but they work and entertain you most of the time. Cons: literally everything…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Full disclosure I got it for 8 bucks. For 8 bucks its pretty good. Its got an okay story, easy pick up grind and die mechanics. Rougelike for sure as each map is slightly random. There's a time loop element so be ready for long quest grinds. Competent, is how i'd describe it. Easy like fast food.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love everything about this. I've always loved playing a necromancer in any game that lets me, and the feeling of commanding an undead horde was absolutely on point here.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really excited for this game, as there really isn't a game out there that let's you play as a necromancer with a huge undead horde. Game came out to mixed results and I picked it up on special and I must say I am pretty disappointed. What is here is decent, but gets repetitive and boring very quickly. Game just loops over and over again. Every time you die, you restart at the very beginning and you have to regrind through every level over and over again recollecting power ups. No save…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With only about an hour on it, I would agree with most that the AI is simply not all there. The game tries to be like overlord and have you send your minions to go attack enemies, and on paper the idea is great. But the AI mostly gets stuck surrounding an enemy and watching it, sometimes while the enemy smacks them. You also don't do nearly enough damage to compensate for that, and it leads to your horde being reduced in size a lot while you try to shift them around the enemy, or kill the enemy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's little to no variations in runs. Upgrades are either bad, weird or beyond broken. Your undead "army" is in reality, just a blob of the undead, good luck commanding them properly
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I'm playing this likely after whatever updates the game has had to go through in regards to things like skeleton type grouping across stages as prior to playing this, I've seen one vid going over how the fighters, rangers, giants and unholies apparently didn't carry over the stats built for them from the previous biomes you move to from the isles to the swamp for instance. If that were the case back then, the devs have rectified that as the abilities etc. you build on each type carry over.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game sounds like a cool idea but its way too complicated too early and doesnt explain things well. There's too many health bars to keep track of. You end up trying to keep track of your own while also trying to sacrifice skeletons before they "decay too much", but that costs mana and it's not explained well how to replenish it or if its even possible until you unlock something. Also the minion AI is incredibly dumb and will spilt up fighting multiple groups instead of focus firing on the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#SizeSky idea- "The Unliving World" is the final area of what was, up until this point, a relatively easy game with the slight snag of permadeath for your party members if and when they died, but each new area before this one introduced 3 or 4 new ones, so you were never at risk of a solo run.
unlabelledView post →Pretty sad to be downvoting this but after a few hours of playing, the game has very little to offer. I really enjoyed playing the demo and thought the developer would address the most important issue - minion AI. However, I understand that the only thing that would address that issue would be a re-design of the game, which, I don’t believe the developer had the time for. I read through some discussions where the developer did admit that being an issue and said that they knew about it, and that…
