60 of 188 · most liked firstMixed rating, hmmm Why? Nothing technical atleast. It's probably because the puzzles are not logical, or better said, not logical in the average mind. To understand that, you have to vaguely know who this Kafka is, because I certainly didn't know. Wikipedia: 1883-1924 (Austria) novelist/short story writer. His work fuses elements of realism and the fantastic. It typically features isolated protagonists facing bizarre or surrealistic predicaments and incomprehensible socio-bureaucratic powers.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Personally, I don’t think making a simplistic adventure game with HOG mechanics, cardboard art and a rudimentary (at best) understanding of Kafka’s works does any service to Franz Kafka OR to video-games, but the developers must have been desperate. Making light of Kafka's existential dread-heavy writings should be the hardest of crimes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That was shortest and most strange journey i ever had in any game... thank you Franz Kafka, may your spirit rest well :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The saying " don't judge a book (or in this case " game" ) by its cover" is the first thing that came into mind when I played this. The cover and title made me curious. But once in game the curiosity quickly dissolved in nuisance . There is just no no cohesion, no story and little to no logic. The game seems to consist of random fields, totally unrelated to each other. No clues on where the story goes (was there a story?) or what is expected. I love puzzle games. But there has to be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Twenty years ago, while I was in High School, I went to watch a stage play based on Kafka's Metamorphosis. It wasn't the first time I got to watch something bizarre, after all it was my last year and we were going to theater at least ten times a year in my cursus. I even got to watch an actor playing the statue of his character after its death, he stood completely naked on a pedestal, his body painted in white, for around half an hour without moving at all. I also went watching a whole Polish…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's strange, perplexing, and frustrating—truly Kafkaesque, much like the title. 카프카스럽다.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game saved my life. I am 43. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiralling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand... my working hand... my games hand.. the hand that I held and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interactive story with integrated delays It's supposed to be a puzzle game, but many of the obstacles come down to trial an error, randomness, and/or waiting 3 minutes for the hint to release. The art is nice, the story is nice, if the hints didn't take the 3 minute wait I'd recommend it for that, but as it is, I sat twiddling my thumbs rather more often than I prefer. Not what I'm looking for in a game. P.S. Einige Rätsel sind englische Wortspiele, die nicht eingedeutscht wurden.

Optional Achievement(s): Yes (5 achievements). Difficult Achievement(s): No. Intro The Franz Kafka Videogame is a puzzle game where you need to either brute force the solution or interact with random objects to figure out what the game wants to solve the level. Pros: - Hints for those who are stuck Cons: - Some puzzles either don't make sense or require brute force…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Franz Kafka Videogame is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game essentially tries to profit from the life and times of Franz Kafka by disrespectfully lambasting the poor man... no respect for the dead, they want your money to make light of a famous author. The treatment of the man here is appalling, for such a low quality mobile app to make fun of him and portray him in what I feel is a very bad…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty disappointing game. It is pretty, but it feels like there is missing something.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew from the Reviews that the game isnt for everybody. I start with the positive, i really like the Artstyle and the music is alright, but the riddles are sometimes just straight up guessing until its right and since the hints are only available after 3 minutes per level i just looked them up on a guide. Im pretty sure i would never played this game until the end without this guide, and a game that needs a guide cant be recommended for others. Especially if you hope for good riddles. Franz…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Franz Kafka Videogame is not your usual point and click puzzle game. The puzzles are not always logical and can be quite surreal. You do need to like nonsense story and surreal puzzles, if you don't the game will be nothing but frustration. The art style and mucis are decent, not the best, certainly not the worst. It is a nice, but sadly short game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game about The Franz Kafka that has no characters with Daddy Issues? Unacceptable...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOTE: This game is very neat in terms of art style and story, but it's a little short. Very fun nonetheless, only bug I encountered was at the very first board game puzzle (when spamming the assets they glitch around and exit the screen, no bug that requires a restart though). ---{ Graphics }--- ☐ You forget what reality is ☐ Beautiful ☑ Good ☐ Decent ☐ Bad ☐ Don‘t look too long at it ☐ MS-DOS ---{ Gameplay }--- ☐ Very good ☐ Good ☑ It's just gameplay ☐ Mehh ☐ Watch paint dry instead ☐ Just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Kafkaesque" only in the most dull, superficial way. The puzzles range from mildly interesting to completely nonsensical. I paid less than a dollar for this game and still felt ripped off. Not recommended for anyone.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only thing Kafkaesque about this game is when you realise you're wasting your life staring at a screen, clicking things randomly in a nonsensical game that has no point. It's deep.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite boring point and click game that tries to be very Kafka-esque, but fails to give any meaningful insight on Franz Kafka or any good story behind the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a nice touch and the graphics are beautiful. However it is very short and the riddles make no sense even if you use hints or you know the solution beforehand. I totally not recommend it to anyone.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the 'pros' in this game include: - first of all, graphics are gorgeous. i do enjoy the 2D paper-ish graphics for a peculiar game. - the price on sale is super low so i guess it was kind of worth it(?) - achievements are easy to get (my 4 hours gameplay was me not paying attention to which 'level' had puzzles so i missed one at a level that wasn't supposed to have a puzzle due to its slow cutscene...) if you follow a guide (tbh, you REALLY NEED IT. bless this person's soul for spending 16…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a delightfully surreal point and click adventure with wit, (somewhat obtuse) puzzles, and exceptional art/music. You control Kafka and Gregor at different points in the game and proceed through a series of scenes that span Europe and America. Accompanied by your dog, you encounter a variety of characters and click through dialog and puzzles. Achievements are fairly straight forward, with one exception. Completionists will need to play the entire game through twice - once without using…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please save your time and money. This is the first time I give this opinion in a review but that’s the conclusion I came to after trying the game twice. The idea of a Franz Kafka Video game is a nice one and might deliver even in a simple game some interesting moments and hours of (maybe even intellectual stimulating) fun. But this game does not deliver this. In my personal opinion except for the name of the game and the protagonist named after him it has nothing to do with the famous author…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“I cannot make you understand. I cannot make anyone understand what is happening inside me. I cannot even explain it to myself.” Game feels like this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Being arbitrary and random is not the same thing as being Kafkaesque.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering the publishers of this game, Daedalic, of whom I've really liked a lot of games they've released, I expected an at least decent point-and-click experience. Perhaps I'd learn a few things of Kafka as well, whose works I'm only surface-level familiar with but still somewhat interested. The game starts out nice, the graphics are stylized and cute and the music is very pleasant. We start out in the abode of K, who performs hypnosis on a patient, in the form of a little puzzle the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was so glad to see the Ukrainian language in the game that I bought the game) ahaha. Okay, I like Kafka too. But there are so many flat riddles in the game that playing it is just boring. But suitable for children.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That was shortest and most strange journey i ever had in any game... thank you Franz Kafka, may your spirit rest well :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a really dull and non nonsensical puzzle game. the only thing i enjoyed about it was the ending.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a huge work made by just one person. With a great support, of course, but still... I appreciate everything here - the laconic little tasks, the design, the variety of easter eggs and that very lovely 25th frame with the face... :) And I think there are many innuendos that could be turned into separate small stories, even if they are not connected with the author's main message. This game is definitely able to make those who do not believe in Russian gaming industry drop their jaws. Even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there is no logic to some of these puzzles its mainly luck.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Either I'm an idiot, or the designers are evil geniuses. Everything has a logical answer, but those answers are arrived at through maddeningly convoluted means, and it mostly feels like I'm manually brute-forcing a series of passwords. If your first thought upon seeing a slide puzzle is to arrange it properly, this is not the game for you. If you like a consistent control system, look elsewhere. Like being able to skip cinematics or dialogue? Sorry, no. If you're just a Kafka fan, I hope you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little point & click adventure / puzzle game. Positive: + As the game description says, "No inventory. No Boss battles. No RPG features". A pretty simple game, puzzles aside. + Nice artwork + Short. Some will say it's a negative, but with all the games in my backlog I like those that don't take ages to complete Negative: - Weird story and puzzles - Probably a headache if done 100% without a guide - As seems to be a Daedalic tradition, one achievement is very tedious (requires to redo the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An absolutely gorgeous game - artsy, bizarre and puzzling! Could have been a masterpiece if the different parts of the story were closer connected and made deeper sense. -------------------------------------------------------------- Play this game if: - You love weird artsy games - You like to solve uneven puzzles that are quite random and sometimes illogical - You want a short game for a slow Sunday Do Not play this game if: - You want a full game with a deep story - You are not into solving…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Franz Kafka Videogame: A Surreal and Mind-Bending Adventure Visuals Step into the surreal and visually striking world of The Franz Kafka Videogame. The game's visuals pay homage to the unique and enigmatic style of Franz Kafka's literary works. With its minimalist yet evocative art style, the game presents a series of absurd and dreamlike environments that will captivate and intrigue players. From bizarre landscapes to peculiar characters, each visual element adds to the overall sense of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I keep thinking how this game is related to novelist Franz Kafka, I read his short story Metamorphosis in middle school and it was pretty shocking, I still remember it but find nothing familiar in the game. I like absurd and bizarre in games, not random things or ideas being put together, an inner logic is needed otherwise the story will be loose sand - this is what I feel about the game. Good puzzles are not necessarily need to be complex, and a crystal clear solution that requires tons of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have you ever played Psychonauts and thought, "Gee, I wish this were a point-and-click puzzle game! And also not funny! And also had zero logic in any of the puzzles!" Then the Franz Kafka video game is the game for you, you poor, deluded fish-person you. Some of the puzzles have answers that at least seem obvious after you've read the walkthrough. Many are completely opaque even with it, though. The storyline doesn't make any sense either, but at least I got the sense that it was doing so on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty cool, and kafkaesque! The story is nice and well presented (though, well, bizarre). The puzzles are challenging to the right degree, and the hints are really helpful in case you get stuck. The art is fantastic, and the soundtrack is gorgeous! Overall, I found this game really enjoyable and surprising! It is a short story, though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fine piece of game. Let me start off by saying that I always did great at untangling those unconventional type of puzzles, think-out-of-the-box like games or whatever you call it, so it comes with no surprises that I destroyed literally every one of the riddles the game threw at me, except for the bunny one, the gateway one, and that stupid locker ♥♥♥♥, my god seriously, numbers resembling letters? Who thought of that? A braindead monkey would settle for that explanation because it can't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An escape from reality. Take Kafka, Freud, a nice vintage artstyle, a ton of surrealism and a handful of cultural references. Mix thoroughly and let it stir for 100 minutes. Then you're done. No bugs and flying fish anymore. Gameplay-like you get to solve puzzles. Like in Puzzle Quest. Join dots, sort things, crack simple codes - that kind of stuff. It's a nice surrealistic trip that's definetly worth a play, but since it doesn't even last 2h, wait for a sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad, not bad at all. This was an enjoyable game that did seem to give some of the feel for Kafka's works.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A point & click which celebrates surrealism more than the novelist himself. It is an original puzzle/adventure game inspired by the writings of Franz Kafka. But unfortunately, the story has very little to do with Kafka, except that the protagonist of the story, named simply K. is involved in events that are beyond his own control and tries to find the way out of it (kind of, there are no clear motives for what he's doing), which is somewhat Kafkaesque, I must admit. The art style is well-done…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an odd short point n click game with some puzzles in it. Storywise there's not much to say besides it all being quite weird and there's a few references to Kafka and his books but that's about it. The art design is really nice and so is the soundtrack. Sadly there's no voice-acting, but maybe that's for the best. Recommending this game with a slight hesitation, it wasn't bad but it was still maybe not what I expected.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd like to give it a thumbs up... I really like the artwork, the music, the simplicity, and the fact that the puzzles don't have instructions. Figuring out what to do is part of the puzzle itself. However, too many puzzles have no logic to them whatsoever, and when they do it's not consistent. They rely on sheer dumb luck of clicking on or doing some random thing. That, to me, took away the enjoyment of the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will admit up front not being knowledgeable of Kafka except in name alone. It looked like a neat game, and the price was right, so here I am. The puzzles are a good brain teaser and test your logic in somewhat odd settings. The music and sound effects are pleasant, adding to the game's atmosphere. The interface is straightforward and easy to jump into, even with no tutorial of any kind. There are also a few funny moments to sort of break your concentration, but I won't spoil them here. Ok…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well. That was. Different.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An immersive world of absurdity and mysteries beautifully crafted atmospheric graphics and captivating story make you think and smile at the same time perfect for fans of unique experiences.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Mixed" recommendation. This is a puzzle adventure, so unlike other adventure games the focus is on solving a series of puzzle rooms rather than having much of a story (which is fine). The puzzles themselves are fairly brain-scratchy and difficult (a lot of visual interpretation of letters/numbers/symbols, etc. ), which is a plus for me. Purely as a game, I'd say this is rather good. If you are a fan of Franz Kafka in any sort of way however, prepare to be vastly disappointed; the author…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting short puzzle game, it’s definitely more about the mood than the challenges. some puzzles may not make sense here and there, but that’s part of the charm, ig? It also slips in a few thoughtful messages along the way. Love that! I’d probably replay to unlock the remaining achievements...it’s short anyway, so why not? xD
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is basically your morning sudoku puzzle wrapped in a "Kafka aesthetic". Instead of the sudden horror of rationality unmade you're tasked with solving a series of visual riddles. The game could just as easily be "The Paul McCarthy Video Game" or "The Monty Python Video Game". In fact, the ability to toggle between different skins would have added to the appeal. The puzzles are fine for what they are, but I went in thinking this was a lo-fi Morrowind or Psychonauts. I was going to be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a quick little adventure game. I finished it in about 2 hours which feels a bit on the short side, but I got it in a bundle highly discounted, so I feel like it was worth it in the end. I enjoyed the surreal atmosphere and overall the challenge on the puzzles felt good, (I did have to look up the solution to the cannon with no ammo puzzle, it felt like they expected you to just brute force it, but seeing the solution actually made sense) The ending felt kind of abrupt, but I was still…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is okay for a single playthrough, but incredibly annoying for achievement hunting. I love puzzles, but these were genuinely incredibly frustrating and unoriginal.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looks quite nice, but it's bullsh*t. There are many better puzzle/adventure games out there. Sure, even worse. But that is not an argument not to warn you and save 7 euros. "An original puzzle game/adventure" - the game simply lies. There is nothing original. The game is just so boring. And all the awards the game has? Who gives them? Shame on you!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is an ok puzzle game. It is short (less than 2h) with some puzzle easy, other hard but overall enjoyable to do. I actually like to be dropped in a puzzle room trying to figure it out. I used a walk-through for some of the puzzles, especially the one with the numbers to move in the square as I super hate this type of puzzle and by default look up walkthrough. Some puzzle I was stuck in a specific mindset, like for the padlock, I was sure of my answer especially that it was feasible, yet when…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the point of the game: random things that don't make sense and are not explained properly won't make great puzzles.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Franz Kafka Videogame is a puzzle game. As you might have guessed the story is inspired by the works of Franz Kafka. It is pointless to try and describe the story as it is pretty incoherent. Though there is some charm to it with all this absurd going on. The fans will probably like it, because it has a lot of references to novels. Moving on to the most important for the puzzle game, the gameplay. It has a great variety of puzzles, some try your logic, some require out-of-the-box thinking…
